    Hi, My name is Gautam. I come from India. I am extremely passionate about Web Development.. I like to build web applications all the time.. Can I make this web application building a full time profession? I have just graduated from bachelors... Is there a Master of Computer Science in Web Development? Can I choose Masters in Web Development? Is it a bad choice? Is there a course very close to it Web Development that I can choose? Should I just keep Web Development as a part time thing to do?? Could you please let me know any good universities which offer this course/ close to this course for Spring 2010? Please advice on what I should do because my mind keeps throwing millions of questions on what I should do and my only hope is STACKOVERFLOW helps me as it always does to solve problems..   • Refresh backend in GWT development

    I am developing a GWT application that uses EJB and other Java EE 6 technology as the backend. I am currently using the GWT 2.0 plugin for Safari. When I change my GWT client side code and save in my IDE (NetBeans), all that's required is a simple reload in the browser for the changes to become active. That works great! However, often I work on the server-side (the EJBs, GWT server code, etc) and then something in on the GWT client side. Any changes done to the server-side do not appear to incrementally deploy to the Glassfish V3 server. Currently I close the GWT Development Mode application, and then recompile the EJBs, and then go back into GWT Development mode. That is tedious. Any better way of doing this? I tried the "deploy on save" option in NetBeans but it does not seem to do the trick.

    i am trying to write a plugin which rewrites "post_link", "page_link", "category_link", "tag_link" with an action hook on wordpress. it's similar to this: add_action("post_link", "the_rewrite_function"); function the_rewrite_function($link) { ... return $new_link; } for example the permalink to the post is: http://www.example.com/2010/11/11/the-post-name/ i am changing it with the function to: http://www.example.com/2010/11/11/the-awesome-post-name/ of course when i do this the new permalink is going to 404 (as expected) what can i do to make the new permalink go to the original and working one? Please consider this: it should work on any permalink structure so a permalink structure spesific solution won't do any good. i need to solve this inside the plugin. thanks!

  • Deploying service from development server to iis7 server

    I have a service which works perfectly on the local development server, but once moved to the remote iis7 server, it fails. I've been browsing the service in a browser manually. Here's the steps I've been taking: Open up Service.svc Open up Service.svc?wsdl Open up Service.svc?wsdl0 Open up Service.svc?xsd=xsd0 Step 4. is where it fails. If i browse on the development server it works. If i browse on the iis7 server, I get a connection reset error. Any help appreciated.

  • Incremental build with NetBeans and Maven for jetty hot deployment

    After my unsuccessful attempt to run Tomcat with hot deployment from NetBeans with Maven, I've tried jetty. The jetty-maven-plugin doc gave me an important hint: The plugin will automatically ensure the classes are rebuilt and up-to-date before deployment. If you change the source of a class and your IDE automatically compiles it in the background, the plug-in will pick up the changed class. If I look at $myproject/target/classes/... in the projects directory, I can see that NetBeans doesn't compile and refresh the class file on saving. I need to build the project explicitly to update the file and than jetty picks up the change. (The plug-in param "scanIntervalSeconds" is set to 1.) How can I tell NetBeans to compile on save and update the class file so that jetty can pick up the change?

  • Good portfolio projects

    Hi, I am a recent graduate and am looking to start a career in web development. Its kind of a catch 22 at the moment as I have a fair bit of programming experience from university but not really in web development and to get a job in web development a portfolio is typically required. So, I am looking to start a building a few application in order to have something to show potential employers. Im more into the backend stuff although am just as comfortable with front end development. Does anyone have any thoughts on some potential projects that would be both relatively quick (as i need to get a job soon!) to build but show off enough programming knowlege / skills to be impressive to employers. At the moment i am also learning to use the zend framework and I would hope to find work using such a framework (mvc). My initial thoughts would be things like a webmail app or maybe a custom CMS. Any ideas would be greatley appreciated.

What should I have ready as far as a development platform is concerned? How would it be different from 32 Bit development? What could be the porting issues for a 32 Bit version that I already have (ok - this might too early to ask.. even before I start compiling)?     Hi, I am about to upgrade my pc, and operating system at the same time. I was wondering what version of Windows 7 to get pre-installed, given that I want to do some ASP.NET development using Visual Studio. Specifically : Will all versions of Windows 7 run an IIS server & be suitable for ASP.NET development ? Are all good for running SQL Server etc ? Will Windows 7 have any probs running old versions of Visual Studio (Ie. 2003 & 2005 versions). Are there any other things I need to consider ? I'm probably going for the 32 bit version of Windows 7.     I'm writing a backbone.js app. I have multiple js, css and html template files. I also have a script to crunch them into a single file so it is faster to download. How should I work during development: Add a listener to the file system and after every change compile the files so I can see it in a browser. This implies a 1-2 seconds overhead before I can see what I did, which is annoying for html fine-tuning. Somehow browse using the multiple files during development and only crunch before going to production. This means I need to have a separate index.html for dev and prod. What's your take?

  • Why are my ActiveRecord class instance variables disappearing after the first request in development

    I have a class instance variable on one of my AR classes. I set its value at boot with an initializer and, after that, never touch it again except to read from it. In development mode, this value disappears after the first request to the web server. However, when running tests, using the console or running the production server this does not happen. # The AR class class Group < ActiveRecord::Base class << self attr_accessor :path end end # The initializer Group.path = File.join(RAILS_ROOT, "public", "etc") # First request in a view %p= Group.path #=> "/home/rails/app/public/etc" # Second request in a view %p= Group.path #=> nil Is there something about development mode that nukes instance variables from classes with each request? If so, is there a way to disable this for specific variables or classes?

  • Eclipse Java EE - Galileo - Unable to view plugins

    I am new to Eclipse so I am having a hard time troubleshooting this problem. I have a new installation of Eclipse Java EE - Galileo on Windows, and I am unable to see any changes made in the IDE after installing plugins. I have verified that the plugins are installed via installation details, but see no changes made. For example, after installing the maven integration plugin m2eclipse I go to File-New-Project ... and I have no option for maven. After installing the QuickRex plugin I have no view for it etc. I have tried re-installing the plugins, re-installing Eclipse, and starting Eclipse with the -clean option, but nothing has resolved the issue. Any ideas? Thanks!

    I am a bit confusing in selecting the target version in Windows phone7 Application development. In my Windows phone7 app I need to use a light weight relational DB Which didn't introduce with version 7.0 but SQL CE with 7.1 version. The problem is if I select the target version as 7.1, then the devices which came up with windows phone7 OS 7.0 will not be able to install this. But I heard that all the devices that came with windows phone7 OS version 7.0 is upgradable for windows OS version 7.1 for free. If this is the case then if I select the development SDK version as 7.1, then will all the windows phone7 devices be able to install this? Like to know which will be the best Target version in this case to select, before I start developing. Any guidance/ Idea is highly appreciated. Thanks...

  • How to configure path to mappings to be used in hibernate.cfg.xml with maven (hbm2cfgxml)

    Hi, can any one tell me how to force maven to precede mapping .hbm.xml files in the automatically generated hibernate.cfg.xml file with package path? My general idea is, I'd like to use hibernate-tools via maven to generate the persistence layer for my application. So, I need the hibernate.cfg.xml, then all my_table_names.hbm.xml and at the end the POJO's generated. Yet, the hbm2java goal won't work as I put *.hbm.xml files into the src/main/resources/package/path/ folder but hbm2cfgxml specifies the mapping files only by table name, i.e.: <mapping resource="MyTableName.hbm.xml" /> So the big question is: how can I configure hbm2cfgxml so that hibernate.cfg.xml looks like below: <mapping resource="package/path/MyTableName.hbm.xml" /> My pom.xml looks like this at the moment: <plugin> <groupId>org.codehaus.mojo</groupId> <artifactId>hibernate3-maven-plugin</artifactId> <version>2.2</version> <executions> <execution> <id>hbm2cfgxml</id> <phase>generate-sources</phase> <goals> <goal>hbm2cfgxml</goal> </goals> <inherited>false</inherited> <configuration> <components> <component> <name>hbm2cfgxml</name> <implemetation>jdbcconfiguration</implementation> <outputDirectory>src/main/resources/</outputDirectory> </component> </components> <componentProperties> <packagename>package.path</packageName> <configurationFile>src/main/resources/hibernate.cfg.xml</configurationFile> </componentProperties> </configuration> </execution> </executions> </plugin> And then the second question: is there a way to tell maven to copy resources to the target folder before executing hbm2java?
