  • Random RAM usage amounts

    I was hoping someone could explain why my application when loaded uses varying amounts of RAM. I'm speaking about a compiled version that uses the exe directly. It's a pretty basic applications and there are no conditional branches in the startup of the application. Yet every time I start it up the RAM amount varies from 6MB-16MB. I know it's on the small end of usage anyways but I'm curious of why this happens.

  • Whats the most efficient way to access another forms controls in .NET?

Ive been in a re-factoring mood lately, so I was wondering what the best way to access the properties of another open form would be(The reporting viewer opens in a new form.)   • GCommit doesn't work with fugitive.vim under windows xp?

    I've just discovered fugitive.vim, which is pretty cool. However, I've run into a problem (this is using windows xp, msys git 1.7, fugitive.vim 1.1, and gvim 7.2). Adding files to the index and checking the status works just fine, but when I do a :GCommit, a command prompt flashes for a second and nothing happens. No way to type a commit message and nothing is committed. Is this a bug? Am I doing something wrong?

  • Ruby 1.8.7 and RSPEC tutorial

    I'm just diving into ruby development for a class assignment and the machines at my Uni have only got ruby 1.8.7 on them so I need to develop for that. I have found tutorials on the web for ruby = 1.9 and rspec that are really good but I haven't found anything for ruby 1.8.7 (I'm guessing it's pretty dated?). Does anyone have anything using rspec testing and has an indepth discussion on ruby 1.8.7 for me? I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

    Well, I'm pretty much trying to figure out how to pull information from a webpage, and bring it into my program(in Java). For example, if I know the exact page I want info from, for the sake of simplicity a Best Buy item page, how would I get the appropriate info I need off of that page?   • How many keys are too many in memcached?

    I currently have about 650,000 items in memcached (430MB memory used) and the number is still increasing. It's expected to exceed 1,000,000 items before going flat. Current hit/miss ratio is 25:1 so the efficiency is pretty good. I just wanted to ask is one million items in memcached on single server too many? If no, how many is too many?

    It seems pretty common to me to have an argument, in a dynamically typed language that is either an Object or a key to lookup that object. For instance when I'm working with a database I might have a method getMyRelatedStuff(person) All I really need to lookup the related stuff is the id of the person so my method could look like this in python: def getMyRelatedStuff(person_or_id): id = person_or_id.id if isinstance(person,User) else person_or_id #do some lookup Or going the other direction: def someFileStuff(file_or_name): file = file_or_name if hasattr(file,'write') else open(file_or_name)

  • Any good C interpreters?

    I was looking at Ch from SofIntegration and it looks pretty interesting as a possible teaching tool. It would allow the you to let someone learning to program "play" while preparing them to write full fledged C programs.     Recently I have debugging into a problem where a connection to a database server from the application server get reset. I am pretty sure there is no reset being called from either end. But while I was debugging into the problem, while inspecting the SocketException, I found the walkback variable. arg0 SocketException (id=11532) cause SocketException (id=11532) detailMessage "Connection reset" stackTrace null walkback long[50] (id=11618) What do the values in this variable represent?

I simply want to create a dropdown list in Access so that upon selection I can perform some action based on the value of the selection. For instance, I have a list of people and I would like to populate the combo box so that their names appear in the list but the "value" is set to their ID (the primary key).

    Inspired by this discussion, after some googling I wasn't able to find an answer to a pretty simple question regarding methods in Ruby: are they objects or not? There are different opinions here and there, and I would really like to hear, let's say, an in-depth explanation. I'm aware of Object#method method, which takes a method name and returns a Method instance, but, on the other hand, there's a similar thing you can do with blocks to make them into Proc instances, and blocks aren't objects, so what makes methods any different?

  • HP LaserJet 1515: Disable "refill" warning

    I have a HP LaserJet 1515 connected to a Windows 7 PC. The Magenta cartridge is empty; the printer shows a warning to that effect, and won't let me print even black-and-white documents any more. I can't turn the warning off manually using the printer's small console: When I try to enter any menu, the display says "Menu access disabled". I have no idea why. There is a setting to override the warning, but it can't be changed using the Network interface in the browser (Although it is there on the status page) According to the manual,the HP printing tool is supposed to offer a switch for this, but it won't install on my Windows 7. It just rumbles about for half an hour, to magnificently exit with an "unknown error" requiring a reboot. On second look, the problem seems to be that Windows 7 just isn't supported. There is no download link for the tool when you specify Windows 7 as your OS. I just want to print a black-and-white-document on a printer whose black cartridge is still 65% full. Is this indeed impossible? On second thought, I'm cross-posting this on the HP support forum. I'll update here if anything comes up.

  • Reverse - Link Cell to Textbox

    I have 5 worksheets and a textbox on each worksheet. I would like all the textboxes to display the same value, which would be whatever the user enters in the first textbox. So once a value is entered in textbox1 on sheet1, textbox2 on sheet2, etc. will be populated with the same value. I'm looking for something like changing linkedcell =WorksheetName!textbox1 although I'm pretty sure that is incorrect.
