  • Is there a "good enough" solution for the halting problem?

    - by EpsilonVector
It is known that the halting problem cannot have a definite solution, one that a) returns true <== the program does indeed halt, and b) handles any input, but I was wondering if there are good enough solutions to the problem, ones that can maybe handle certain types of program flows perfectly, or is able to identify it when it cannot correctly solve the problem, and so on.... If so, how good are they, and what ideas/limitations do they rely on?

I'm making a program to improve your gaming skills, so its not a hacking program!! Now, i'm stuck on 1 thing, i need sort of a keylogger, that will logg what you do, For example, when you press space, it has to put Jumped in a Rich Text Box. When you left mouse click, it has to add Shots Fired to the Rich Text Box, and then , when right mousebutton is clicked, add Aiming Down Sights, but when its released it should also add something like Stopped Aiming Down Sights Can anyone help me on this? Challenge: Without using the modulus divide operator provided already by your language, write a program that will take two integer inputs from a user and then displays the result of the first number modulus divided number by the second number. Example: Input of first number:2 Input of second number:2 Result:0 Who wins: In case you don't know how Code Golf the winner is the person who writes this program in the least amount of characters.

  • BetterAuthorizationSample weird???

    - by Nano8Blazex
I have a quick, newbie question... I just started looking through authrozation services and Apple's BetterAuthorizationSample... for some reason, I just can't get the hang of it. For example... I deleted the HelperTool and InstallTool and SampleTool.c and all references, but why does the program seem to continue work like nothing happened at all even after a clean build? Even commenting out all the code in SampleTOol.c doesn't seem to affect the way the program runs? Thanks

  • Good style for handling constructor failure of critical object

    - by mtlphil
I'm trying to decide between two ways of instantiating an object & handling any constructor exceptions for an object that is critical to my program, i.e. if construction fails the program can't continue. I have a class SimpleMIDIOut that wraps basic Win32 MIDI functions. It will open a MIDI device in the constructor and close it in the destructor. It will throw an exception inherited from std::exception in the constructor if the MIDI device cannot be opened. Which of the following ways of catching constructor exceptions for this object would be more in line with C++ best practices Method 1 - Stack allocated object, only in scope inside try block #include <iostream> #include "simplemidiout.h" int main() { try { SimpleMIDIOut myOut; //constructor will throw if MIDI device cannot be opened myOut.PlayNote(60,100); //..... //myOut goes out of scope outside this block //so basically the whole program has to be inside //this block. //On the plus side, it's on the stack so //destructor that handles object cleanup //is called automatically, more inline with RAII idiom? } catch(const std::exception& e) { std::cout << e.what() << std::endl; std::cin.ignore(); return 1; } std::cin.ignore(); return 0; } Method 2 - Pointer to object, heap allocated, nicer structured code? #include <iostream> #include "simplemidiout.h" int main() { SimpleMIDIOut *myOut; try { myOut = new SimpleMIDIOut(); } catch(const std::exception& e) { std::cout << e.what() << std::endl; delete myOut; return 1; } myOut->PlayNote(60,100); std::cin.ignore(); delete myOut; return 0; } I like the look of the code in Method 2 better, don't have to jam my whole program into a try block, but Method 1 creates the object on the stack so C++ manages the object's life time, which is more in tune with RAII philosophy isn't it? I'm still a novice at this so any feedback on the above is much appreciated. If there's an even better way to check for/handle constructor failure in a siatuation like this please let me know.

  • What do programs see when ZFS can't deliver uncorrupted data?

    - by Jay Kominek
Say my program attempts a read of a byte in a file on a ZFS filesystem. ZFS can locate a copy of the necessary block, but cannot locate any copy with a valid checksum (they're all corrupted, or the only disks present have corrupted copies). What does my program see, in terms of the return value from the read, and the byte it tried to read? And is there a way to influence the behavior (under Solaris, or any other ZFS-implementing OS), that is, force failure, or force success, with potentially corrupt data?

  • Does control return after "execvp()"

    - by Ajay Garg
"execvp()" replaces the current program with the to-be-execed program (of course in the same process context). So, putting, say, any printf() calls after execvp() won't work. That is what the docs say, and I have verified it as well. But then, why is _exit() needed..? Does it so happen that the control DOES return to statements post execvp() ? I will be grateful for any pointers. Thanks

I made a class before "List" wich contain all what I need to programme something with List ... Add , Display .. The probleme is that I programmed the function "Merge2lists" which give us the third list .. How can I display the third list in the main program after using "Merge2lists" Plz , my prob with the Class and the OOP syntaxe ... try to give me the implementation in the main program ??? Otherwise,How can I apply function given pointer in main program wich declared in class .. Thankx class Liste { private: struct node { int elem ; node *next; }*p; public: LLC(); void Merge2lists (node* a, node * b,node *&result); ~LLC(); }; void List::Merge2lists (node* a, node * b,node *&result) { result = NULL; if (a==NULL) { result=b; return;} else if (b==NULL) { result=a; return;} if (a->elem <= b->elem) { result = a; Merge2lists(a->next, b,result->next); } else { result = b; Merge2lists(a, b->next,result->next); } return; } int main() { liste a ; a.Aff_Val(46); a.Aff_Val(54); a.add_as_first(2); a.add_as_first(1); a.Display(); /*This to displat the elemnts ... Don't care about it it's easy to make*/ list liste2; b.Add(2); b.Add(14); b.Add(16); list result; Merge2lists (a,b,result); /*The probleme is here , how can I use this in my program */

  • LinkedList parameters in Java

    - by Walt
Hi there, I created a program that contains linked lists that are passed various methods. While this works just fine in Java... a style checker program we have to use doesn't like it It says: Declaring variables, return values or parameters of type 'LinkedList' is not allowed. If I declare them as simply List then I don't have access to the methods I want. What should I do?

  • iPhone Application Deploy without using iTunes

    - by Paulo Correia
I want to build an application for the iPhone to be used inside a customer enterprise (very small, only 5 to 10 devices). But since they will be paying the application development, I don't want to distribute that application to the world inside the App Store in iTunes. How can I distribute this app to my customer? Should I get the Enterprise level subscription from the Apple Developer Program? Since I work as a freelancer, I think I can't subscribe to that program.

    - by sasayins
Hi, I am learning some embedded programming. I am using Linux as my platform and I want to create a daemon program that will check if a particular device(magstrife, keypad, etc) is active. Like for example, my daemon program is running in the background, then when I make a keypress event, my deamon app will do something. What implementation should I do to create this app? And how can I check the event of the devices? Thanks.

  • Pros and Cons of C vs C++ programming

    - by Mohit Deshpande
I am trying to decide on whether I should learn C or C++. I come from a very object-oriented background of java and C#. I have heard that C++ is more object-oriented than C, BUT I have also heard that a C program compiles and runs faster than a C++ program. Please help me get the facts straight by giving pros and cons of BOTH points of views. (Points of views being C over C++, or C++ over C)

  • Choosing a Java IDE for homework assignments

    - by Andrew
Can anyone recommend a light Java IDE that doesn't require you to make new projects each time you want to compile and run a program? I just want to be able to open java files and compile and run them. I have already tried Eclipse and NetBeans but both require you to make a new project each time you want to compile and run a program. Making a new project is fine for large scale projects but for small school assignments this just makes the process more tedious. Thanks

  • how to send an array of bytes over a TCP connection (java programming)

    - by Mark Roberts
Can somebody demonstrate how to send an array of bytes over a TCP connection from a sender program to a receiver program in Java. (I'm new to Java programming, and can't seem to find an example of how to do this that shows both ends of the connection (sender and receiver.) If you know of an existing example, maybe you could post the link. (No need to reinvent the wheel.) P.S. This is NOT homework! :-)

  • Why wont my while loop take new input (c++)

    - by Van
I've written a program to get a string input from a user and parse it into tokens and move a robot according to the input. My problem is trying to issue more than one command. The code looks like: void Navigator::manualDrive() { const int bufSize = 42; char uinput[bufSize]; char delim[] = " "; char *token; while(true) { Navigator::parseInstruction(uinput); } } /* parseInstruction(char *c) -- parses cstring instructions received * and moves robot accordingly */ void Navigator::parseInstruction(char * c) { const int bufSize = 42; char uinput[bufSize]; char delim[] = " "; char *token; cout << "Enter your directions below: \n"; cin.ignore(); cin.getline (uinput, bufSize); token=strtok(uinput, delim); if(strcmp("forward", token) == 0) { int inches; token = strtok(NULL, delim); inches = atoi (token); Navigator::travel(inches); } if(strcmp("back",token) == 0) { int inches; token = strtok(NULL, delim); inches = atoi (token); double value = fabs(0.0735 * fabs(inches) - 0.0550); myRobot.backward(1/*speed*/, value/*time*/); } if(strcmp("turn",token) == 0) { int degrees; token = strtok(NULL, delim); if(strcmp("left",token) == 0) { token = strtok(uinput, delim); degrees = atoi (token); double value = fabs(0.0041 * degrees - 0.0523); myRobot.turnLeft(1/*speed*/, value/*time*/); } } if(strcmp("turn",token) == 0) { int degrees; token = strtok(NULL, delim); if(strcmp("right",token) == 0) { token = strtok(uinput, delim); degrees = atoi (token); double value = fabs(0.0041 * degrees - 0.0523); myRobot.turnRight(1/*speed*/, value/*time*/); } } if(strcmp("stop",token) == 0) { myRobot.motors(0,0); } } In the function manualDrive I have a while loop calling the function parseInstruction infinitely. The program outputs "Enter your directions below: " When I give the program instructions it executes them, and then it outputs "enter your directions below: " again and when I input my directions again it does not execute them and outputs "Enter your directions below: " instead. I'm sure this is a very simple fix I'm just very new to c++. So if you could please help me out and tell me why the program only takes the first set of directions. thanks
