  I wanted to officially thank the organizers, speakers, volunteers and the attendees of SharePoint Saturday South Florida. Being the first event in South Florida the reception was phenomenon and the group of speakers from keynote by Joel Oleson to session’s speakers from well renowned speakers like John Holliday, Randy Disgrill, Richard Harbridge, Ameet Phadnis, Fabian Williams, Chris McNulty, Jaime Velez to organizers like Michael Hinckley amongst others. With my Business Intelligence (BI) presentation being on the last track of the day, I spent very quality time networking with these great guys and getting the insider scope on International SharePoint Community from Joel and his son which was mesmerizing. I had a very active audience to a point where we couldn’t accommodate all the contents within the 1hr allocated time because they were very engaged and wanted a deep dive session on news features like PowerPivot, enhancements on PerformancePoint, Excel Services amongst others in order to understand the business value and how SharePoint 2010 is making the self-service BI become a reality. These community events allows the attendees experience technology first hand and network with MVPs, authors, experts providing high quality educational sessions usually for free which is a reason to attend. • Does having multiple URIs mapping to the same resource help SEO?

  Let's say I have a site with products that have tags, if each resource is available at GET '/products/tagged/:tag_list/:product_permalink' Could that be better for SEO than just one permalink? For example a product tagged "tea" and "coffee" would be available at GET '/products/tagged/tea/:product_permalink' GET '/products/tagged/coffee/:product_permalink' GET '/products/tagged/tea/coffee/:product_permalink' GET '/products/tagged/coffee/tea/:product_permalink' I would imagine that google would appreciate this because it gives multiple URIs with different levels of detail about the product, but I cant really be certain. Anyone have any direct knowledge on the topic? --EDIT-- As John Conde points, this is a horrible idea. What about having the links on my site link to a route such as GET '/products/tagged/:full_tag_list/:product_permalink', and then any time a user changes tags just have a HTTP moved permanently status to the new URL. Therefore duplicate URLs would be highly unlikely and mitigated by the proper response. Would this be better?

• Humor in Documentation

  Is a small amount of lighthearted wording or humor acceptable in source code documentation? For example, I have an algorithm that has a message hop around a graph (network) until its path forms a cycle. When this happens it is removed from the queue of the node it last resided on which removes it from memory. I write that in a comment, and finish the comment with "Rest in peace, little guy". That serves very little documenting purpose, but it cheers me up a bit, and I imagine it might cheer up other people I'm working with as they read through the code. Is this an acceptable practice, or should my in-code documentation resemble as much as possible the speeches of 2004 United States presidential candidate John Kerry? ;-)

• What's the best way to manage list item sort order with Drag & Drop UI?

  I have a list of Students that I should display to user on a web page in tabular format. The items are stored in DB along with SortOrder information. On the web page, user can rearrange the list order by dragging and dropping the items to their desired sort order, similar to this post. Below is a screenshot of my test page. In the above example, each row has sort order info attached to it. When I drop John Doe (Student Id 10) above the Student Id 1 row, the list order should now be: 2, 10, 1, 8, 11. What's the optimistic (less resource hungry) way to store and update Sort Order information? My only idea for now is, for every change in the list's sort order, every object's SortOrder value should be updated, which in my opinion is very resource hungry. Just FYI: I might have at most 25 rows in my table.

  I’m creating an MMA website. There’s the home page, there’s a fighters section whose index page lists fighters in the organisation, and then each fighter has a profile page. The URL structure is like this: / /fighters/ /fighters/john-doe My question is: on the fighter’s profile page I want to link to the fighters index page (/fighters). In my HTML page, which meta tag would be the most appropriate? <link href="/fighters/" rel="index" /> Or: <link href="/fighters/" rel="contents" /> I’m having trouble distinguishing which would be best, and whether rel="index" would be the index for the whole site or the current page/section I’m viewing?

  I am currently attending St. John's University with a major of Computer Science. I am entering my senior year next year and stumbled upon this certificate program for web development from Hunter College: http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/ce/certificates/computer/web-programming So the question is, would it be beneficial for me to complete this program or to just attend a few elective courses in the summer at a school such as NYU? Would this certificate be good for my resume? • 7-minute Community GlassFish Clustering Screencast

  Community member Faissal has recently put up a 7-minute screencast of an un-edited setup of a GlassFish cluster. His clustering setup spans across a mac and a virtualized Ubuntu host. It can probably be further simplified using the SSH provisioning feature (asadmin install-node) to avoid logging into remote machines. You may remember John's GlassFish clustering in under 10 minutes, a very successful video which was based on version 2. Since that we've put out a number of demos on YouTube for our 3.1.x versions including a full webinar replay.

  Transparent Data Encryption is designed to protect data by encrypting the physical files of the database, rather than the data itself. Its main purpose is to prevent unauthorized access to the data by restoring the files to another server.
