  • How to refresh database data only in SQL Server

    So I want to copy just the data from a Prod database (SQL 2005) down to my local machine (SQL 2005 & SQL 2008 Management Studio installed). The problem is I'm running into foreign key constraints that are causing the task/scripts to fail. I can get by these errors if I import certain tables first, but is there an easier way to do this all at once? I'm not a DBA so I don't have access to the database back up. I've tried the SQL Import/Export data Wizard and Publishing Wizard, but it also gets the PK error.

    Hi I have an idea and I want to apply it to my Application (C# .NET). When we connect to a DB (MS SQL Server 2008) in VS 2008, the ConnectionString saved in the Application Setting and it's a static varriable (no one can edit it unless you edit it inside VS 2008). I want a way to let my Application search for MS SQL Server and save it to Application Setting and use it to connect to my DB Programmatically. When my application start, the first thing to do is checking the ConnectionString if vaild, NOT Empty and test connection to MS SQL Server Successfully so if there is a proplem I think to show a window form to let the user enter some data like username and password for MS SQL Server 2008 Is there any way to do it?

  • MSSQL 2008 - Bit Param Evaluation alters Execution Plan

    I have been working on migrating some of our data from Microsoft SQL Server 2000 to 2008. Among the usual hiccups and whatnot, I’ve run across something strange. Linked below is a SQL query that returns very quickly under 2000, but takes 20 minutes under 2008. I have read quite a bit on upgrading SQL server and went down the usual paths of checking indexes, statistics, etc. before coming to the conclusion that the following statement, found in the WHERE clause, causes the execution plan for the steps that follow this statement to change dramatically: And ( @bOnlyUnmatched = 0 -- offending line Or Not Exists( The SQL statements and execution plans are linked below. A coworker was able to rewrite a portion of the WHERE clause using a CASE statement, which seems to “trick” the optimizer into using a better execution plan. The version with the CASE statement is also contained in the linked archive. I’d like to see if someone has an explanation as to why this is happening and if there may be a more elegant solution than using a CASE statement. While we can work around this specific issue, I’d like to have a broader understanding of what is happening to ensure the rest of the migration is as painless as possible.     I have created a database model in Visio Professional (2003). I know that the Enterprise version has the ability to create a DB in Sql Server based on the data in Visio. I do not have the option to install Enterprise. Aside from going through the entire thing one table and relationship at a time and creating the whole database from scratch, by hand, can anyone recommend any tool/utility/method for converting the visio database model into a Sql Script that can be used to create a new DB in Sql Server?

    I have a table on the database and I want to load only some columns from the result set. I defined a native sql query in the hbm file: <sql-query name="query"> <return alias="r" class="RawData"/> <![CDATA[ SELECT DESCRIPTION as {r.description} FROM RAWD_RAWDATAS r WHERE r.RAWDATA_ID=? ]]> </sql-query> This query however fails with error: could not read column value from result set: RAWDATA1_14_0_; Invalid column name SQL Error: 17006, SQLState: null, because Hibernate tries to load all fields from the result set. I found also a bug in Hibernate JIRA (http://opensource.atlassian.com/projects/hibernate/browse/HHH-3035). Anyone knows how to accomplish this task with a workaround?

    Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. When I try to use IIS locally instead of Cassini I get this error. The ASP.NET MVC 1.0 site is running on WinXP. The database is local and has SQL Server and Windows Authentification mode enabled. The website runs OK using Cassini, with the same connection string. It fails when I try to use IIS instead of Cassini. These permissions are set on the Virtual directory which IIS points to. ASP.NET Machine Account [Full Control] Internet Guest Account [Full Control] System [Full Control] This virtual directory is the same are the directory holding my project files. I am using Linq and the database connection string is stored in the App.config file of my data project. I get the same error whether I set the connection string to use Windows or Sql server authentification. My sql server has both [MyMachineName\ASPNET] and SqlServerUser Logins and a User on the database. CREATE LOGIN [MyMachineName\ASPNET] FROM WINDOWS WITH DEFAULT_DATABASE=[master], DEFAULT_LANGUAGE=[us_english] Use My_database CREATE USER [MyMachineName\ASPNET] FOR LOGIN [MyMachineName\ASPNET] WITH DEFAULT_SCHEMA=[dbo] CREATE LOGIN [MwMvcLg] WITH PASSWORD=N'blahblah', DEFAULT_DATABASE=[master], DEFAULT_LANGUAGE=[British], CHECK_EXPIRATION=OFF, CHECK_POLICY=ON Use My_database CREATE USER [MwMvcLg] FOR LOGIN [MwMvcLg] WITH DEFAULT_SCHEMA=[dbo] How come I have no problem running this website on IIS6 remotely. Why does IIS5.1, running locally, need these extra logins? PS: My overwhelming preference is to use Sql Server authentification - as this is how it runs when deployed.

    Hi, I am doing something seemingly pretty easy, but Rails is messing up the SQL. I could just execute my own SQL, but the framework should be able to handle this. Here is the save I am trying to perform: w = WhipSenVote.find(:first, :conditions => ["whip_bill_id = ? AND whip_sen_id = ?", bill_id, k]) w.votes_no = w.votes_no - 1 w.save My generated SQL looks like this: SELECT * FROM "whip_sen_votes" WHERE (whip_bill_id = E'1' AND whip_sen_id = 7) LIMIT 1 And then: UPDATE "whip_sen_votes" SET "votes_yes" = 14, "updated_at" = '2009-11-13 19:55:54.807000' WHERE "id" = 15 The first select statement is correct, but as you can see, the Update SQL statement is pretty wrong, though the votes_yes value is correct. Any ideas? Thanks!

    Using SQL ManagementStudio 2008 I created SQL 3.5 Compact DB (TestCompact.sdf) and I have created subscription to existing Publication. Using SQL Management Studio it is working. I have transfered TestCompact.sdf to Windows Mobile 5 emulator device and with QueryAnalyzer for Mobile I could query existing tables in TestCompact.sdf. I don't know how to start replication synchronization on that mobile device. Do I need to write some C# code or it is possible do it more simple?

The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)" Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be? I can create a connection to the db in the database explorer but it doesn't seem to work in code.

  • Dump Hibernate activity to sql script file

    Hi, I'm trying to log hibernate activity (only dml operations) to an sql script file. My goal is to have a way to reconstruct the database from a given starting point to the current state by executing the generated script. I can get the sql queries from log4j logs but they have more information than the raw sql queries and i would need to parse them and extract only the helpful statements. So i'm looking for a programatic way, maybe by listening the persist/merge/delete operations and accessing the hibernate-generated sql statements. I don't like to reinvent the wheel so, if anybody know a way for doing this i would appreciate it very much. Thanks in advance

From the above table can conclude that; user id=1 subscribed to 6 users user id=2 subscribed to 3 users I want to find manual of subscription (like Facebook is manual friends) user 1 subscribe to user 5,6,7,8,9,10 user 2 subscribe to user 5,6,7 So, Manual subscription of user 1 and 2 are: 5,6,7 And I'm trying to create SQL statement.. I give you user table for my SQL statement and I think we can use only subscribe table but I can't figure out. Table user userid (columns) 1 2 3 ... ... SQL "select * from user where (select count( 1 ) from subscribe where subscriber = '1' and subscribeto = user.userid) and (select count( 1 ) from subscribe where subscriber = '2' and subscribeto = user.userid);" This SQL can work correctly, but it very slow for thousands of columns. Please provide better SQL for me, Thanks.
