  • How to make Jenkins CI use Local time instead of UTC on debian squeeze

    I have a Jenkins-ci installation on a debian squeeze. Current default time zone: 'America/Toronto' Local time is now: Mon Jul 9 16:00:57 EDT 2012. Universal Time is now: Mon Jul 9 20:00:57 UTC 2012. In the /etc/default/rcS file i have : UTC=no Unfortunately this is not working, In the system information of jenkins: user.timezone Etc/UTC I searched for a few hour.. unfortunately could not find a fix any help would be greatly appreciated.   • Why does cifs asks for su rights to write any data into it?

    I'm mounting a windows share as follows: sudo mount -t cifs //192.168.178.49/public -o users,username=name,dom=domain,password=pword /mnt/nas Then I'm trying to create a simple file with some basic text: touch /mnt/nas/me.txt And get an error, however, the file is created (contains 0B of data though): touch: cannot touch ‘me.txt’: Permission denied With sudo it works flawless. How can I allow my current user to write data to the share? Is there a mount option?

  • MegaCli newly created disk doesn't appear under /dev/sdX

    After having successfully added 2 new disks in a new RAID virtual drive (background initialization done), I would have exepected it to appear under /dev/sdh but it's not there (so, unusable). The system is running a CentOS 5.2 64 bits, HAL and udev daemons are running, not records of any sdh apparition under the messsage log file or in dmesg, only MegaCli do see that virtual drive. Any idea ?   • Write vim file as super-user ?

    This is a usability problem that happens often to me : I open a read-only system file with vim, even editing it, because I'm not attentive enough, or because the vim on the system is badly configured. Once my changes are done, I'm stuck having to write them in a temporary file or loosing them, because :w! won't work. Is there a vim command (:W!!!) that allows you to write the current buffer as a super-user ? (Vim would ask for your sudo or su password naturally)

Requirements: accessible to normal users accessible to root always loaded, not only for bash (gnome-terminal does not start a bash by default) to work on Ubuntu, Debian and optionally Red Hat great if addition could be easily scripted So far here is the no-list: /etc/profile.d/java.sh - not executed if you start a new console from gnome-terminal /etc/profile - same as above ~/.profile - current user only, also any solution assuming ~ would not be acceptable because home directory could be on NIS, and JAVA_HOME could be different.

  • Anyone know how to get dual screens working on a Dell E6410 laptop with Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit?

    I've installed the drivers from nVidia. When I go into the NVIDIA X Server Settings application, in the X Server Display Configuration setcion, and click the "Configure" button, "TwinView" is disabled. Also, clicking "Detect Displays" doesn't pick up my monitor (which is connected through a port replicator - keyboard and mouse in that port replicator work fine). Has anyone else seen this? Is this just a limitation of the current nvidia linux drivers?

    Normally when I read a book I use a bookmark held horizontally under the current line I'm reading to help me keep my eyes on the right spot. When I read a PDF or other document on my computer I would like to be able to do the same thing, only with a line on the screen controlled by the up and down arrow keys. Any suggestions for an application which would do this? I'm a Ubuntu Linux user.

    When shopping for a new desktop computer, I'd like to get one that allows me to use two monitors. Is that something that most current-generation video cards can do (in late 2012), or do I need to search for a specific graphics card, or specific attributes for a card? I've Googled the question but most answers talk about how to figure out if a computer that you already have can support dual monitors (generally, by plugging two monitors and seeing if they both work). Is there some key terminology that I'm missing in my searches?

  • Raspberry Pi can't see external hard drive

    My Raspberry Pi (Model B) can't see my external hard drive. It was working before without a problem, until I disconnected and reconnected the drive. It is a self-powered hard drive. When I put another image on a different SD card the Raspberry Pi can see the hard drive no problem, so there is some sort of configuration issue in the current image on the SD card. Any advice will be gratefully received.

  • Does UNC work between two Intranet domains?

    We have some servers which will move to a new Windows 2008 domain, and some Windows 2000 servers which I would prefer to keep in their current domain for a while (until we have the resources to test and reinstall them as Windows 2008 systems in the new domain too). Can UNC still be used to connect to file server resources on the new system from the old servers? Or is UNC limited to work only within one domain? I'll do tests on Monday but every feedback would be very welcome.

    I know in the "old days" it was good practice to shut this off. But nowadays I have heard that it improves deliverability of email. In the old days people were not worried about spam (or having their outbound email rejected), so that made sense. Of course, the question is only relevant to servers that send email.   • How can I automatically update the title in an xterm running screen?

    This is a bit of a followup to this question. I'm working in tcsh within GNU screen in an xterm. I have the following in my .cshrc: alias res_t 'xtset -t %h:%d "(%u:%g)" %e' # reset titlebar res_t # reset title right now alias precmd res_t And this works fine! However, when I run screen I see that the title doesn't get updated with the current directory. How can I make screen update the xterm title?
