• How to implement copy protection of content in an open source application?

  I have an idea for an open source app -- the app would be free, but I would charge a small fee for data that a customer would order. For instance, let's say I'm writing a map application. I'd give the app away, make it open-source, but I would like to sell various maps to individual users. Is there a way to protect the data in such a way that makes it very difficult for someone to simply take the map they bought and distribute it to others? Is this feasible for an open source app?

• How can I detect when the .NET Framework feature is "turned off" in Windows 7 / Vista?

  My application requires the .NET Framework version 3.5. I recently ran into a customer that had the .NET Framework installed but turned off on Windows Vista (also applies to Windows 7). In this case, my installer (InstallShield 2009) does not prompt the user to install the Framework (because it is already installed) and when my application runs it crashes immediately. I tried another .NET application and it also crashes immediately. Is there any way to detect this situation and handle it more gracefully? Just detecting this during install is not ideal since the .NET Framework can be turned off at any time. Ideally, the application would be able to check and display a friendly message to the user telling them they need to turn on the .NET Framework. EDIT: "Turning off" the .NET Framework in Windows Vista or Windows 7 is not the same as uninstalling it. • MySQL update error when special characters are used

  Hi All, I was wondering if anyone had come across this one before. I have a customer who uses special characters in their product description field. Updating to a MySQL database works fine if we use their HTML equivalents but it fails if the character itself is used (copied from either character map or Word I would assume). Has anyone seen this behaviour before? The character in question in this case is ø - and we can't seem to do a replace on it (in ASP at least) as the character comes though to the SQL string as a "?". Any suggestions much appreciated - thanks!

  We have a PHP web app running on a customer's machine. For an update, we have a bit of code in C that we'd like to include as a native opaque library along with the PHP web app. How does one go about calling a C/C++ lib. function from PHP? It cannot be assumed that the PHP app, called by the web server, has any sort of permission to call an exec(), eval(), or system() type of function to execute a C wrapper driver which in turn uses the C/C++ library, so it would need to be a direct C library use from within the PHP code.

  Disclaimer: I've solved the problem using Expressions from System.Linq.Expressions, but I'm still looking for a better/easier way. How do I generate this dynamic where clause? An additional complication is that the Queryable collection (db.Customers above) is typed to a Queryable of the base class of 'Customer' (say 'Person'), and therefore writing c.Address as above is not an option.

  Is it possible to provide the following type of fuctionality with informix client tools? As the user types the first two characters of a name, the drop-down list is empty. At the third character, the list fills with just the names beginning with those three characters. At the fourth character, MS-Access completes the first matching name (assuming the combo's AutoExpand is on). Once enough characters are typed to identify the customer, the user tabs to the next field. The time taken to load the combo between keystrokes is minimal. This occurs once only for each entry, unless the user backspaces through the first three characters again. If your list still contains too many records, you can reduce them by another order of magnitude by changing the value of constant conSuburbMin from 3 to 4.

So suppose on line 3, I want to detect if row has changed, and if so, set row.UpdateDate = DateTime.Now. If row has not changed, I don't want to set row.UpdateDate so that no SQL is generated. Is there any good way to do this?

In second case totally reload OS! This is very bad, and customers blame me! But this is I don't do anything illegal to make blackberry crash. • Toggle DIV and SPAN text onclick

  I have been trying to mimic this website http://www.designrattan.co.uk/daybed/apple for a while now. I need to make a page where the customer can click "View 360" and then it changes the DIV to show the product 360 (for which I already have the code for). I also need to make it so that when it is clicked the span text then changes to "Back to Image" I have tried many times and have failed to get the Javascript code and HTML to work well together. My efforts can be seen here: http://designliving.tk/winchester-rattan-garden-round-table-set As you can see it is a complete fail as it doesn't change the DIV it just displays a new one. Also when you click the button it then changes to text instead of a new button. • ext-js update params dynamically

  I'm building a search using ext-js. I have an event that fires on keyup. I want to be able to change either the URL I'm searching, or the params. I've had luck with neither. Here's my snippit of code: Ext.get("search").on('keyup', function() { proxy.url = '/customer/list?key=' + $('search').value; store.load(); }); But, no love for me. The store loads, but the proxy.url is the old value. Is what I'm trying to do possible? Thanks in advance!

• AJAX/JSONP Question. Access id denied using IE while requesting corss domain.

  Ok, Here we go. I have already searched the Stack for the answer i have found some useful info but i want to clear up some more things. I also search the net for the answer but no real help. I have worked with some api (yelp, ouside.in). In yelp i use to inject the script to head with the url request to the api with a callback funcion. I worked fine in all browsers. But while using outside.in api when i call the url the callback in not working. In yelp they have a url field can be used like that callback=callbackfuncion so the callback will automatically called. But in outside.in there is not such field available. Is there are any standard command for callback function which will work regardless of any server/api? I also tried a standard ajax request using jQuery $.ajax() function. It worked for my local pc for both IE and other browser but did not working in IE showing the error: access denied, other borwser seems ok. Firebug in my FF also don't notice any errors.   I'm testing come code in a service with transactional set to true , which talks to a customer supplied web service the main part of which looks like class BarcodeService { .. /// some stuff ... try{ cancelBarCodeResponse = cancelBarCode(cancelBarcodeRequest) } catch(myCommsException e) { throw new RuntimeException(e) } ... where myCommsException extends Exception .. I have a test which looks like // As no connection from my machine, it should fail .. shouldFailWithCause(RuntimeException){ barcodeServices.cancelBarcodeDetails() } The test fails cause it's catching a myCommsException rather than the RuntimeException i thought i'd converted it to .. Anyone care to point out what i'm doing wrong ? Also will the fact that it's not a RuntimeException mean any transaction related info done before my try/catch actually be written out rather than thrown away ?? Thanks

And these ingredients have different prices for different sizes. For that I also have a table like Ingredient :: id | name | sizeid | categoryid | price I am not sure if this Structure really normalized is.   I'm trying to construct a query in NHibernate to return a list of customers with no orders matching a specific criteria. My Customer object contains a set of Orders: <set name="Orders"> <key column="CustomerID" /> <one-to-many class="Order" /> </set> How do I contruct a query using NHibernate's ICriteria API to get a list of all customers who have no orders? Using native SQL, I am able to represent the query like this: select * from tblCustomers c where not exists (select 1 from tblOrders o where c.ID = o.CustomerID) I have been unable to figure out how to do this using aliases and DetatchedCriteria objects. • Mac OS X 10.5 App "not supported on this architecture" cured by copying?

  I have an app that updates itself over the internet, and the updated copy won't run on PowerPC machines (G5) running Leopard (10.5.8). Double-clicking the app produces a message saying "You can't open the application "appname" because it is not supported on this architecture." But here's the weird part: if I duplicate the app using the Finder or using a cp -R command, then the duplicate runs fine! And yet, if I do ls -laeR on both apps, the results are identical. I restarted the machine, and the difference between the two copies was still there. Sometimes, renaming the app made it run. After a few tries, I managed to rename it back to the original name and still have it run. If this was just on one machine, I'd dismiss it as disk corruption, cosmic rays, or a voodoo hex, but it was reported by a customer and then I reproduced it on my own machine. Any ideas what could cause this behavior?

• Magento: Deduct Tax at Checkout for (most) countries

  I am working on a UK fashion store. The customer has a specific requirement - never add tax (VAT) at checkout; rather, have VAT built into the price, and deduct when applicable. The use case is that EU purchases will have no tax added at checkout - as the price includes it. And, rest of the world purchases will have the VAT deducted at the checkout. I can't see how to do this in Magento. I though to set up some negative values for tax rates, but that doesn't work. Any ideas?

• Make joomla blog link to inner pages(or blog roll post actual)

  So i was told to create a blog for client in Joomla and, i have minimal knowledge of Joomla inner workings. I made the blog as seen here http://www.assurancepower.com/about-us/blog.html But the problem is that, the headers/titles for each story in that blog roll cant be clicked. Im wondering is there a way i can make this happen? Essentially this page is a collection of the stories and i want to be able to click on a particular one (any of them) and be taken to its inner page/full version of the story. Not exactly sure what im supposed to do/search for. Im not sure if joomla has a wordpress like functions.php or for example, is there somewhere i can instert a....maybe something like how wordpress does it with permalinks like so: <?php permalink(); ?> //title link here to the actual story. or something like <?php bloginfo('url');?>// this relative link for WP. Etc, All i want is to be able to have these titles in this story be active links to their full counterpart. Not sure what to look for/how to go about fixing this. Thanks in advanced.

The problem is on a particular product i need to check IF my pages contains: <span class="ProductNameText">This is product ABC</span> This is a work around because the customer only has 2 products which dont require 25 quantity. Ideally i would want to check if a page contained Kit Option form fields and then add 25 to the box. Any ideas on how to check for a span and then update the quantity. But the quantity shouldnt be forced, so if the user wants 6 items they should be able to add that figure.
