  • More than one emacs terminal

    - by Mad Wombat
I am getting more and more used to doing everything from inside emacs, but it seems that eshell, shell and term will only run one instance each. Is there a way to run multiple terminals (preferably term) inside emacs?

  • apc_delete() not working in background script

    - by Jared
I have a shell background convertor on my video website and I can't seem to get APC to delete a key as a file is uploaded and its visibility is updated. The script is structured like so: if(file_exists($output_file)) { $conn->query("UPDATE `foo` SET `bar` = 1 WHERE `id` = ".$id." LIMIT 1"); apc_delete('feed:'.$id); } Everything works fine except for the APC and this is the only script on the site that has had this problem. I'm stumped.

  • Using Python to add/remove Ubuntu login script items

    - by codebox_rob
I have written a Python application and would like to give my users the option of having the app automatically launch itself when the user logs in. It is important that the user is able to toggle this option on/off from within the app itself, rather than having to manually edit login scripts, so this needs to be done from within the Python code rather than from a shell script. The app is deployed on Ubuntu Linux, any suggestions for the best way of doing this?

  • SVN: and bash: How to tell if there are uncommitted changes

    - by fishtoprecords
I'm trying to wrap a standard sequence of steps in a shell script (linux/bash) and can't seem to figure out how to tell of the execution of svn status returned anything. For example ~/sandbox/$svn status ? pat/foo ~/sandbox/$echo $? 0 If I delete the foo file, then the svn status return nothing, but the echo $? is still 0 I want to not do some steps if there are uncommitted changes. Pointers greatly appreciated.

  • Why does ghci say that 1.1 + 1.1 + 1.1 > 3.3 is True?

    - by Frerich Raabe
    I've been going through a Haskell tutorial recently and noticed this behaviour when trying some simple Haskell expressions in the interactive ghci shell: Prelude> 1.1 + 1.1 == 2.2 True Prelude> 1.1 + 1.1 + 1.1 == 3.3 False Prelude> 1.1 + 1.1 + 1.1 > 3.3 True Prelude> 1.1 + 1.1 + 1.1 3.3000000000000003 Does anybody know why that is?

  • MongoDB query against geospatial index with maxDistance fails from node.js client

    - by user1735497
I want to query against a geospatial index in mongo-db (designed after this tutorial http://www.mongodb.org/display/DOCS/Geospatial+Indexing). So when I execute this from the shell everything works fine: db.sellingpoints.find(( { location : { $near: [48.190120, 16.270895], $maxDistance: 7 / 111.2 } } ); but the same query from my nodejs application (using mongoskin or mongoose), won't return any results until i set the distance-value to a very high number (5690) db.collection('sellingpoints') .find({ location: { $near: [lat, lng], $maxDistance: distance / 111.2} }) .limit(limit) .toArray(callback); Has someone any idea how to fix that?

  • Redirecting one file to another using dub2 and strtok

    - by Sergiy Zakharov
OK, here goes. I have to write a program, in which I need to use strtok and dup2 to redirect one file to another, but I need to also have the user to actually put the command cat < file1 file2, but not from the shell, but instead by using my program. That's why I need strtok. And the reason my program doesn't work is probably because of that, because I don't really understand how strtok works. I found a similar program on the internet, but they just take the ls command and redirect it to the file. That's it. My program is much more complicated. I mean, it would've been easier just to say in shell cat < file1 file2, but for some reason they want us to do it this way. So, anyways, here is what I have so far (here I just combined what I have found on the internet with what I already had from before. We had to do something similar but then the user would just go ls or ls -l. Very simple stuff. This is much harder, for me, at least.) #include <fcntl.h> #include <unistd.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <errno.h> #include <sys/wait.h> #include <string.h> int main() { pid_t pid; char line[256]; char *args[129]; int i; int fd; int status; char *temp; while (1) { printf(">"); if (fgets(line, 256, stdin) == 0) { exit(0); } else { pid = fork(); if (pid == 0) { i = 0; temp = strtok("<",line); while (temp != NULL) { args[i++] = temp; temp = strtok(">",line); args[i] = '\0'; } fd = open("hello", O_RDONLY); dup2(fd, STDIN_FILENO); fd = open("world", O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_TRUNC, S_IRWXU); dup2(fd, STDOUT_FILENO ); close(fd); execvp(args[0], args); } else { close(fd); wait(&status); } } } } Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • User input without waiting for enter

    - by Hermann Ingjaldsson
I am trying to make an interactive shell script in perl. The only user input I can find is the following: $name = <STDIN>; print STDOUT "Hello $name\n"; But in this the user must always press enter for the changes to take effect. How can I get the program to proceed immediately after a button has been pressed?

  • can i use hadoop cloudera without root access?

    - by in_the_cloud
a bit of a binary question (okay, not excatly) - but was wondering if one is able to configure cloudera / hadoop to run at the nodes without root shell access to the node computers (although i can setup ssh passwordless login)? appears from their instructions that root access is needed, at yet i found a hadoop wiki which suggest root access might not be needed ? http://wiki.apache.org/nutch/NutchHadoopTutorial

  • Django manage.py can't find an INSTALLED_APP even though the module is in the path

    - by Rhubarb
When I run python manage.py shell I get an error about the last app I've added to INSTALLED_APP, namely django_evolution, saying it's an undefined module. This is despite the fact that I've added the path to django_evolution to the system path. In fact right after this error I can run python and do an import on django_evolution and everything is fine. Why isn't django or python seeing this module when clearly it's been setup and even added to the path?
