    I know that under Windows, there are API functions like global_alloc() and such, which allocate memory, and return a handle, then this handle can be locked and a pointer returned, then unlocked again. When unlocked, the system can move this piece of memory around when it runs low on space, optimising memory usage. My question is that is there something similar under Linux, and if not, how does Linux optimize its memory usage?

  • Moving 2d objects on a 3d plane - AS3

    I have a 2d plane rotated on its x axis, with 2d display objects I want to move around on the plane. Its pretty similar to a chess board: http://static.open.salon.com/files/chess011237853612.jpg The board is a rotated rectangle, and the pieces are just 2d display objects. Whats the easiest way to manipulate those objects so they appear to be moving on the board?

  • Livevalidation clientside validation - can you control the position of the validation messages?

    I'm using LiveValidaion for my clientside validation http://livevalidation.com/ and DataAnnotations for my validation rules. This all works fine except that the clientside error messages are only ever displayed to the right of the element being validated. Is it possible to move this validation message below the element being validated? Or even better, group all messages in a div at the top/bottom of the page? I dont see anything in their docs or examples

    Hello, i own a website where users can vote/rate things and i want to improve the poor inputbox (from 1 to 10) to improve visual rendering. I was thinking of a bar, which have 10 ' | ' you can move the cursor from one to ten (it doesn't have to be AJAX because the rating is only added at the end of the form) I'm sure you already seend this king of thing but i actually can't find any plugin of it.     Is there a way to get a record count or a space-used value for all the tables in a SQL Server Compact database file (SQL CE 3.5.1)? I saw this question, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2075026/sql-server-compact-count-records-get-space-used-for-all-tables-in-database So perhaps another option would be, is there an easy way to move a sqlce database to SQL Express? Would that give realistic measurement of the database table sizes?

    I am trying to move to heroku which uses PostgreSQL 8.4 which has a citext column type which is nice since the app was written for MySQL. Is there any way to use :citext with rails (so that if the migrations are run on MySQL the citext would just use string/text?   • Vertical scrolling in silverlight

    I have a silverlight application that is set to use 100% browser height. As I dynamically add controls to a canvas (which can be dragged around), I would like the expand the canvas vertically. Ideally show the browser scrollbar so the user can move up or down, if that can't be done, use the scrollbar control. I would also need to handle the user changing the size of the browser.     Hi, I am playing with the Demo SoftKeyboard the comes with the Android SDK. In portrait mode when the candidate view is shown, it doesn't move the app up as the default android keyboard does. Hence it covers part of the application view. What should be changed in order to make the candidate view in the demo softkeyboard behave as the default android keyboard does? I've also looked at the source of the android keyboard from git but found nothing related to this behavior.

My problem is that using the MouseMove event, I don't have a continuous set of points if the user moves the mouse fast enough (if I add each point in a list I can have (10,10) en then (20,20)...) I'd like to have ALL points where the mouse has been during the move. Do you have any idea ?

If I store image in {ProjectRoot}\Images\image.png, and compile it as Resource then I can access it from a xaml (this xaml is located at Root) as BitmapImage by BitmapImage UriSource="Images/image.png". But if I move the xaml to another folder, say {ProjectRoot}\Xamls, now I have to use BitmapImage UriSource="../Images/image.png". Is there a way to specify an absolute project path, so that I can refer to them with the same path regardless of the location of the xaml?

  • Need to tab out of ActiveX control in browser

    When tabbing through controls in an ActiveX control hosted in IE, once I get to the last control the tab key no longer does anything. I would like it to move the focus outside the ActiveX control to the next html control. This works fine when the ActiveX control is hosted in a WinForms app, does anybody know how to make this work in the browser? It may also be relevant that the ActiveX control is a simple wrapper around a WPF control.
