• PowerXpress error with Driver Catalyst. How can I fix it?

  I have install Ubuntu 11.10 64bit on my Hp Dv6-3150el. My Notebook has two graphics cards: lspci | grep VGA 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Madison [AMD Radeon HD 5000M Series] I tried to install the proprietary graphics drivers ''fglrx'' available in "Additional Drivers", which does not give me 3D graphics acceleration (and I can't install those post-release). Then I can try to download and install from the website (I tried the version that Catalyst 11.8 11.12). The installation goes perfectly (I followed this guide and others), except that when I configure Xorg.conf file: sudo aticonfig --initial PowerXpress error: Cannot stat '/usr/lib64/fglrx': No such file or directory Failed to initialize libglx for discrete GPU

• Will C++ remain viable for game engines in somewhat distant future?

  C++11 has opened ways, which were only dreamt by the C++ programmers. It has been three years since I have been learning C++, and I am going well. Now I want to get into vedio games. Every core of the game code I saw, was monstourously writtern in C++. My question is - If I get into serious game engine dev, and perfecting it would take, maybe say 10 years, would we still be writing game engines in C++ ?(newer standard) Or, will John Carmack, write id tech 7 in c++? note - I am strictly talking about game engines.

• Missing launcher, top panel without icons, an ATI driver problem?

  After upgrading to Ubuntu 11.10, the following problems occurs when accesing in ubuntu mode (3D): the launcher is missing, top panel without icons on the right side, and I can only restart with Terminal (Alt-T and then sudo reboot). No problems in 2D. It occurs on my PC with AMD Athlon (tm) II X4 640 Processor, Radeon HD5670 and both with the 32-bit and 64 bits versions of Ubuntu. Both versions work well on an older PC with AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 4200 + processor, and an Nvidia integrated graphics card (C61 GeForce 6150SE nForce 430). Could it be a problem with the ATI driver?

• rotate opengl mesh relative to camera

  I have a cube in opengl. It's position is determined by multiplying it's specific model matrix, the view matrix, and the projection matrix and then passing that to the shader as per this tutorial (http://www.opengl-tutorial.org/beginners-tutorials/tutorial-3-matrices/). I want to rotate it relative to the camera. The only way I can think of getting the correct axis is by multiplying the inverse of the model matrix (because that's where all the previous rotations and tranforms are stored) times the view matrix times the axis of rotation (x or y). I feel like there's got to be a better way to do this like use something other than model, view and projection matrices, or maybe I'm doing something wrong. That's what all the tutorials I've seen use. PS I'm also trying to keep with opengl 4 core stuff. edit: If quaternions would fix my problems, could someone point me to a good tutorial/example for switching from 4x4 matrices to quaternions. I'm a little daunted by the task.

  I started my Career as core-Java developer 6 years ago and stayed as developer for 6-7 month and then moved to performance testing (actualy pushed into this for short term and later I started liking it). I have done all sort of non-functional testing like performance, load, stress, soak, compatibility, failover etc on many performance test tools accross many industries. I was doing contracting all these years which means I kept moving to new projects after every 3-6 months. Now personal situation has been changed, married man now so looking for something long term. Performance testing generally comes at the end of the development life cycle hence very short term contracts so I was wondering if I can move into functional/test automation side I can earn myself good length of contract. I had some exposure of QTP but I am sure to learn all other tools very quickly as I am quite good in programming and concept of testing. in short I want to move into functional test automation to get long term contract without leaving my love for programming . any thoughts please ?

• Why doesn't Unity 3D work on my HD3000 integrated graphics?

  So I got my new laptop recently. HP Envy 15 with switchable graphics card. I'm using both windows and ubuntu, but for ubuntu I need just Intel HD3000 for better battery live. I've installed fglrx-updates and fglrx-amdcccle-updates. The drivers seems to work for my ATI card. The problem is, Intel HD3000 does not support Unity 3D. Why? • How to get rid of multiple linux versions in grub boot menu

  I've been using dual boot on my PC for some time now, to use Ubuntu along side with Windows 7. One very disturbing thing happens, when Ubuntu linux core gets updated (this happens once in a while). They are added as options to the grub menu so, my boot menu now looks like this: Ubuntu, with linux 2.6.35-27 generic Ubuntu, with linux 2.6.35-27 generic (recovery mode) Ubuntu, with linux 2.6.35-25 generic Ubuntu, with linux 2.6.35-25 generic (recovery mode) Ubuntu, with linux 2.6.35-24 generic Ubuntu, with linux 2.6.35-24 generic (recovery mode) Ubuntu, with linux 2.6.35-22 generic Ubuntu, with linux 2.6.35-22 generic (recovery mode) Memory test Windows 7 This gets very annoying, because I want to load windows by default, but after every update it shifts down and I have to go to grub config and change the default option.   In the coming months we're going to begin a project where we take a system we've built for a client (v1) and rebuild it from scratch. Our goal with v2 is to make it modular, so that this specific client will have their own set of modules they use, then another client may use a different set of modules altogether. The trick here is that Company A might have a series of checkout and user modules that change how that system works. Company B might stick with the standard checkout procedure but customize how products are browsed. What are some good approaches to application architecture when you're building an application from scratch that you want to have a Core that's shared among all clients while still maintaining the flexability for anything to be modified specifically for a client? I've seen CodeIgniter's hooks and don't think that's a good solution as we could end up with 250 hooks and it's still not flexible enough. What are some other solutions? Ideally we won't need to draw a line in the sand.

• installing ubuntu 13.04 along side window 7 64 bit

  I have a 64 bit computer with windows OS. Here are my specifications: core i3 processor 4 gb ram nvdia ge210 hard disk with 680 gb memory In my windows installation I have C: drive with 104 gb, D: drive with 246gb and E: drive with 246gb memory. My dvd rom is in f: drive. I want to install ubuntu 13.04 64 bit along side windows 7. So i burned the ubuntu 64 bit iso image onto a dvd and restarted the computer. but in the choice for installations, there is no option to select installing ubuntu along side windows. There is an option to install ubuntu inside windows instead. There are other options as well. What should I do to get the option to install ubuntu along side windows. I think the problem is with the number of drives in windows. Please tell me how should I make a partition in windows 7 to install ubuntu. Thanks a lot..

• ubuntu 13.10 secondary monitor - doesn't redraw properly

  Hi I've just installed Ubuntu 13.10 on a Lenovo w350 and am having some issues with graphics driver. standard nouveau drivers work great on the laptop display but when I attach an external display it goes bad on the external monitor, seems it's not re-drawing properly. (Photo attached). I've tried other drivers but none of them detect the external monitor when connected. • Unable to boot from USB boot drive for AMD Athlon 64

  I am trying to install Ubuntu 13.04 ISO for AMD64 Athlon processor using USB drive (8GB). I did create a bootable USB using the USB installer from Win7 intel 32bit processor (followed steps from here: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows). This USB is unable to boot on my AMD64 bit processor. The bios is able to detect the USB and once I change the boot order to USB and save exit from bios, I get a message saying "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS CONTINUE" and unable to proceed further. However earlier to this I have successfully installed Ubuntu 13.04 on to my laptop which has Intel 32 bit core i5 processor with the same procedure but my desktop which has AMD64 is failing. I also tried to create the USB installer on my desktop which has the AMD64 bit processor and tried booting which also resulted in the same error. (My desktop currently has Win XP) Please help as I have run out of options. thanks, Nagarjun

• kubuntu 12.04 runs slowly

  i have a 3ghz amd 64 dual core am3 socket processor, asus mom board, 4GB ram, 8800GTS nividia video card with 500MB ram. installed kubuntu 12.04 and very laggy. select menu and 20 seconds later the menu pops up. i switched to classic menu and that seemed to help. what direction should i look first to get this running better? video perhaps? i had ubuntu 11.04 on this machine previously and had no problems with speed.

• Drupal node access for anonymous users

  I've never used Drupal before so this may be something that can easily be remedied, and that would be awesome. My problem is that a block, containing node information can't be viewed by anonymous users (unregisterd/not logged in), gives a "You are not authorized to access this content." message, but shows up for logged in users. The nodes that the block contains are events, so the block shows events for the next week. I've checked the users access settings but can't find anything that could possibly remedy this. I'm using drupal core 6.26, Event 6.x-2.x-dev, Event views 6.x-2.4 If anyone has any information, or solutions, I'd greatly appreciate it.

• Amnesia crashes

  I am able to launch amnesia all the way through the menu. After I click start new game I am able to play a little bit. I hear the guy talk, then the game just closes. I installed the libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0 already as some of the similar problems I found online were fixed by doing so, but did not work for me. My graphics card is Intel GMA 4500MHD. Cpu: Intel Core Duo 2.1 Ghz. RAM: 3GB What else can I do to try and fix this? I'm pretty new to Ubuntu, I just installed it recently. What else (and how) should I post that may help you help me better?

• Server 13.10 Install Hangs

  I'm trying to install Server 13.10 on some old hardware for testing (HP/Compaq dc5850, with Athlon X2 2.3 GHz dual core, 4GB RAM). The third screen is "Select Language" and the machine appears to hang. Ath e selection screen, the keyboard and mouse does not work. I integrity checked the CD and it checked out OK. I also performed a second ISO download and it cross checked with my initial download: $ md5 Desktop/ubuntu-13.10-server-amd64.iso Downloads/ubuntu-13.10-server-amd64.iso MD5 (Desktop/ubuntu-13.10-server-amd64.iso) = 4d1a8b720cdd14b76ed9410c63a00d0e MD5 (Downloads/ubuntu-13.10-server-amd64.iso) = 4d1a8b720cdd14b76ed9410c63a00d0e I was able to install Server 12.04 on the same machine. The problem with 12.04 is the OpenStack packages are too old, and I wanted to try something with fresher packages. My problem appears similar to I cannot install Ubuntu Server 12.10. The Installer hangs at the language selection, but my ISOs appear to be good and the disc appears to be good. Any ideas?

  Say you started as SaaS service with freemium business model such 37Signals - Basecamp or Dropbox etc.. Is there an OSS license that says that you can use the source code etc.. but you cant release a SaaS based on it, esssentially released in good faith with non-compete expectations. e.g. if 37Signals released the source for highrise, basecamp etc.. someone could start 37signals4lesss.com (albeit once they built the same bit of provisioning logic) and damage the core business model.

• Windows 8 on my new i7 Macbook Pro

  Using bootcamp I installed Windows 8 on my new Macbook Pro 15" (not a retina screen version), which has OS X 10.8.2, 2.6 Ghz Core i7 with 8 GB RAM.  I followed the simple procedure outlined here. The only problem I had was the wireless device driver wasn't provided. I had to find and download it myself. Even so it only provided 5G not 2G protocol support. I downloaded a Broadcom driver.   I was able to enable the Hyper-V features on Windows 8 and look forward to using VMs. So far so good :)
