  • Control serialization of GWT

    I want GWT to not serialize some fields of my object (which implements Serializable interface). Normally, transient keyword would be enough. However, I also need to put the object on memcache. The use of transient keyword would make the field not being stored on memcache also. Is there any GWT-specific technique to tell the serializer to not serialize a field?

  • Database backup regardless of backup made through a control panel?

    I know that all CMS or CMC platforms have some sort of walkthrough for their users to fully backup and restore the database or the whole website. While we all can perform such backups (and there are even plugins which automate the whole procedure) and restore them in necessity (such as when we migrate to a new server), one can also backup the whole website by means of such control panels as Directadmin or Cpanel. Now, I just want to know if it is necessary for us to do database or website backups the way they are described by a specific CMC or CMS developer even after we perform a whole website backup in a control panel such as DA? An example of such CMS platforms is moodle. Moodle Docs describes how we can backup and restore moodle in here. So do we, out of necessity, have to make the backup the way described, or we can simply do it the Control panel way? Thanks

  • vim unicode bufread/bufwrite script

    Problem: I want my unicode characters to be stored on disk as (rather tan utf8/16 encoding) \u#### However, I want them dispalyed as unicode characters when opened up in vim. I think the easiest way to acheive this is some bufopen/bufwrite script that automatically: on opening, convert \u#### to unicode character on writing, convert unicode characters into \u#### However, I don't know what functions to call to make this happen. Can someone lend a hand? Thanks!

  • Is this postgres function cost efficient or still have to clean

    There are two tables in postgres db. english_all and english_glob First table contains words like international,confidential,booting,cooler ...etc I have written the function to get the words from english_all then perform for loop for each word to get word list which are not inserted in anglish_glob table. Word list is like I In Int Inte Inter .. b bo boo boot .. c co coo cool etc.. for some reason zwnj(zero-width non-joiner) is added during insertion to english_all table. But in function I am removing that character with regexp_replace. My question is is there any thing I can add to or remove from function to make it more efficient. edit Let assume english_all table have words like footer,settle,question,overflow,database,kingdom If inMinLength = 5 and inmaxLength=7 then in the outer loop footer,settle,kingdom will be selected. For above 3 words inner two loop will apply to get words like f,fo,foo,foot,foote,footer,s,se,set,sett,settl .... etc. In the final process words which are bold will be entered into english_glob with another parameter like 1 to denote it is a proper word and stored in the another filed of english_glob table.     When a user uploads an image to my site, the image goes through this process; user uploads pic store pic metadata in db, giving the image a unique id async image processing (thumbnail creation, cropping, etc) all images are stored in the same uploads folder So far the site is pretty small, and there are only ~200,000 images in the uploads directory. I realise I'm nowhere near the physical limit of files within a directory, but this approach clearly won't scale, so I was wondering if anyone had any advice on upload / storage strategies for handling large volumes of image uploads.

    I am looking out for a strategy to utilize multithreading (probably asynchronous delegates) to do a synchronous operation. I am new to multithreading so i will outline my scenario first. This synchronous operation right now is done for one set of data (portfolio) based on the the parameters provided. The (psudeo-code) implementation is given below: public DataSet DoTests(int fundId, DateTime portfolioDate) { // Get test results for the portfolio // Call the database adapter method, which in turn is a stored procedure, // which in turns runs a series of "rule" stored procs and fills a local temp table and returns it back. One way would be to call the above DoTests() method in a loop and get the data. I would prefer doing it in parallel. But there are certain catches: StartTransaction() method creates a connection (and transaction) every time it is called. All the underlying database tables, procedures are the same for each call of DoTests(). (obviously). Thus my question are: Will using multithreading anyway improve performance? What are the chances of deadlock especially when new TestId's are being created and the Tests, TestResults and TestAllocations are being saved? How can these deadlocked be handled? Is there any other more efficient way of doing the above operation apart from looping over the DoTests() method repeatedly?

  • Copying 6000 tables and data from sqlserver to oracle ==> fastest method?

    i need to copy the tables and data (about 5 yrs data, 6200 tables) stored in sqlserver, i am using datastage and odbc connection to connect and datstage automatically creates the table with data, but its taking 2-3 hours per table as tables are very large(0.5 gig, 300+columns and about 400k rows). How can i achieve this the fastes as at this rate i am able to only copy 5 tables per day but within 30 days i need move over these 6000 tables.

  • xslt or php for rendering output

    I'm creating something where users can upload an xml and data get's imported to the database. Now I'm building some kind of a preview page where users will get to see how their input will look once it's stored. What would be the fastest (in execution time), using XSL to transform the xml to a html page, or using php to render the output? My guess is XSL is far more suitable (+ faster) for this (and by using a DTD there's no need for code written validation, right?)
