    The SQL Server team has released SQL Server 2012 SP2 Cumulative Update #1. This cumulative updates Service Pack 2 to include the fixes from SP1 CU#10 and a few from CU#11, including the fix for the online index rebuild corruption issue I discussed recently on SQLPerformance.com .     There are a number of popular web font services on the market today who "host" the fonts and serve them to your web page via javascript or CSS pointing to remote locations. For example http://webfonts.fonts.com or http://typekit.com However, there seems to be an issue when you're developing on a local testing server - the remote font services don't validate the font and return 403 access denied errors and the like. What workarounds are there for using remote services such as a hosted font service, on a local development server?

    I am creating a site with quite a few services, such as a free account service, and of course a subdomain for my site's blog and then for article base and other related services, would having them all on subdomains be a good idea? Are there any caveats you are aware of in existing search engines for this? I believe mapping foo.example.com to example.com/foo to provide an alternative just in case is a good idea for sitemaps, I like to keep things clean.

    I've looked into a number of video hosting options, but none seem to provide a .mp4 link to your uploaded video, which I require for use in a project using BigVideo.js. The only service I've found to provide this functionality so far is VimeoPro, which I can't afford. Is there any way to do this for free in YouTube? Or, otherwise, are there any other (preferably low- or no-cost) video hosting providers that will provide a .mp4 link?

    We are developing an ASP.NET MVC application, and are now building the repository/service classes. I'm wondering if there are any major advantages to creating a generic IRepository interface that all repositories implement, vs. each Repository having its own unique interface and set of methods. For example: a generic IRepository interface might look like (taken from this answer): public interface IRepository : IDisposable { T[] GetAll<T>(); T[] GetAll<T>(Expression<Func<T, bool>> filter); T GetSingle<T>(Expression<Func<T, bool>> filter); T GetSingle<T>(Expression<Func<T, bool>> filter, List<Expression<Func<T, object>>> subSelectors); void Delete<T>(T entity); void Add<T>(T entity); int SaveChanges(); DbTransaction BeginTransaction(); } Each Repository would implement this interface (e.g. CustomerRepository:IRepository, ProductRepository:IRepository, etc). For example, in our old invoicing system, we call InvoiceRepository.GetSingleInvoice(DateTime invoiceDate, int accountId) from a few different services (Customer, Invoice, Account, etc). That seems much cleaner than writing the following in multiple places: rep.GetSingle(x => x.AccountId = someId && x.InvoiceDate = someDate.Date); The only disadvantage I see to using the specific approach is that we could end up with many permutations of Get* functions, but this still seems preferable to pushing the expression logic up into the Service classes. What am I missing?

    I have been trying to setup Atlassian Fisheye/Crucible as a service on Win 2K3 R2 for two weeks. I keep getting various "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space" errors, which crash Fisheye and force me to restart the service. I've followed the example on the Atlassian support site to configure MaxPermSize within the service wrapper. However, when I check SysInfo inside the Fisheye Admin pages and the debug log, I don't see any confirmation. The Java Heap info is in both places, so I'd expect the MaxPermSize setting to show up in both places. The error is persisting and Atlassian support has been little help. I appreciate any help.

    i'm a total newbie on windows failover clustering. and what i want to do now is to setup the FC (failover clustering) on two win 2008 R2 server. and right now i have my custom window service running on both machine. But they cannot run concurrently as it will mess up the DB, thus i just want one to be available at all time (high availability). so i'm wondering if there's any way to set the failover policy to include this custom window service that i've installed on these machines so that if this service goes down or die, then it will automatically trigger the failover to the second node. is this possible? or must it be done programatically? and if so what is the best way? thanks ~m

  • Added and removed a custom service, but the keybinding is still stuck?

    I created a custom service in Automator to open a new finder window from whatever app I'm in, and assigned it to CMD+E (I was trying to get the WIN+E effect from Windows.) I tried it for a few days, restarted the computer daily, but found it didn't work that well. So I removed the keybinding, then removed the service, deleted the Automator file, etc. So, now the custom service is gone, but CMD+E still goes to the finder from whatever app I'm in! I added a custom shortcut to BBEdit in an attempt to restore its CMD+E action (find with selection), but it STILL goes to the finder! I just want CMD+E to do what it normally does in each app. Any ideas?

    I have a web site that communicates via XMLRPC with an XMLRPC server web service. (The web service is written in Python using xmlrpclib.) I believe that xmlrpclib will block while it is handling one request. So if there are three users with an xmlrpclib request ahead of you, your response takes four times as long. How do I handle it if I receive too many XMLRPC requests and the web service gets bogged down and has slow response time? If I am getting slashdotted, my preferred behavior is that the first users get good response times and everyone else is told to come back later. I think this is superior to giving everyone terrible response times. How do I create this behavior? Is this called load-balancing? I am not actually balancing though, until I have multiple servers.

    I recently made an application that has multiple parts. One of the parts is a networking tool - it always starts with the OS, and it never displays any sort of message. It does, however, start an incredibly irritating console, which is impossible to get rid of without closing the program itself (please just accept this one as given). I have decided to work around this problem by starting the program (it's a *.exe) as a service, thus stopping it from showing up at all. As the application will be distributed to various computers (hence the need for a networking tool in the first place). I need a way to make this program install as a service (so, I don't really want answers that tell me to go through a series of menus on the Control Panel or download a 3rd-party application that has to stay on whichever computer the service will run on). How can I do this?

    The Indexing Service filter daemon keeps crashing on my WinXP Pro machine, with the following error message: "Indexing Service filter daemon has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Not a big deal, I can click "Don't Send Error Report" all day. But what's going on, here? Is this a service that I need?     I love Windows 7 Backup and Restore.. However, I kind of find it inconvenient to use external hard drive, plug it in, take it out, put it away safely etc.. Is there an online storage service to which Windows Backup can save the backup files to? Can I make Windows Backup store the backed up data to an online storage service? I do not want to manually upload the backup files. I want it to save directly to the cloud. Doesn't matter if the service costs me some $$$. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit edition.

  • How do I use long names to refer to Group Managed Service Accounts (gMSA)?

    Commonly domain user accounts are used as service accounts. With domain user accounts, the username can easily be as long as 64 characters as long as the User Principal Name (UPN) is used to refer to the account, eg [email protected]. If you still use the legacy pre-Windows 2000 names (SAM) you have to truncate it to ~20 characters, eg mydomain\truncname. When using the New-ADServiceAccount PowerShell cmdlet to create a new Group Managed Service Account (gMSA) and a name longer than 15 characters is specified, an error is returned. To specify a longer name, the SAM name must be specified separately, eg: New-ADServiceAccount -Name longname -SamAccountName truncname ... To configure a service to run as the new gMSA, I can use the legacy username format mydomain\truncname$ but using usernames with a maximum of 15 characters in 2013 is a smell. How do I refer to a gMSA using the UPN-style format instead? I tried the longname$@domainfqdn approach but that didn't work. It also seems that the gMSA object in AD doesn't have a userPrincipalName attribute value specified.

  • MSExchangeMailSubmission service is not listed or running; sent mail not working

    I am running a new Exchange 2007 SP1 system. I moved the mailboxes from the old Exchange 2003 server, and incoming mail is working. But outgoing mail is not working at all; even inside my domain. Lots of debugging and searching lead me to believe that the problem is that the "Microsoft Exchange Mail Submission Service" (AKA MSExchangeMailSubmission) is not running. In fact, it's not even listed in the Services list. This document (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998342.aspx) says that this service is installed by the Mailbox server role. My server is running the Mailbox role, as well as the Hub Transport and Client Access roles. How do I get this service to show up in the list, so that I can start it up? Thanks.

  • Using 4 monitors with 2 generic video cards... possible?

    I'm thinking of setting up 4 monitors in a grid, using two video cards, one card to feed each pair of monitors through the card's two DVI ports. The most important requirement for me is to have the grid of monitors act as one single huge screen. Is this scenario possible by using two generic cards like Radeon 4870s on a Windows 7 computer? (I've heard of Eyefinity, but 4870s don't have it) Another issue is that I only have one PCI-Express slot on my computer's motherboard, therefore I'll need to use one of the lesser PCI cards as the second video card. Will this pose problems?
