    I recently installed Windows Server 2003 R2 (64) on a DL360 G6 without using the SmartStart CD (it didn't like the MSDN media). But when I attempted to install the network drivers post-install using the packages from the HP website, I wasn't successful. Though I selected the correct package, the installer reported I did not have the necessary hardware configuration. Has anyone had a similar experience? Thanks

  • How much time do I have to remove a domain controller that was lost using metadata cleanup?

    I am wondering how long after a Domain Controller has been permanently lost, from the domain due to it dying from hardware perspective, do I have before I have to clean up references of it using meta data cleanup? Planning on doing it soon but not sure if there is anything I should be concerned about. This dead or lost domain controller had no roles other than being a Domain Controller and having integrated Active Directory DNS. As well it held NO FSMO roles, it was just an older replication Domain Controller.

  • Front audio jack not working or missconfigured?

    I have win xp and asus p5ql-e motherboard. The problem is that when i plug in my headphones on the front audio jack, the computer doesn't recognizes it. They work on the back audio jack but not on the front - how can i be sure that it;s not a software problem (something miss configured or not configured at all), before i conclude that it's a hardware problem (broken front audio jack or miss connected to the motherboard)?

  • Persistent Issues on small business network using Cisco 871W and Catalyst Express 500

    Being the most qualified (read: still not qualified) to solve our persistant network issues, I've turned to serverfault for guidance. I've done some searching, reading related documentation on cisco.com and tried a bit of troubleshooting. Here is the config: 100mb synchronous connection from a business internet provider (tested multiple times at 100meg at the source) Cisco 871W wireless point & router is where the WAN connection starts (this serves all our wireless). The only wired connection in the 871W is the Catalyst switch listed below. Cisco Catalyst Express 500 (24TT) is where all the wired connections terminate. About 20 Windows workstations and servers (AD/Webservers only). Some services in EC2 including mail and other web servers/apps. I've been TOLD cabling internally should be gigabit-ready. Here are the problems: generally slow download rates from the internet to the desktop/laptop frequent "page cannot be displayed" errors in browsers-sometimes 3 or 4 reloads are necessary... often times CSS wont load or other content requiring the browser to connect to a different server. slow speed within the LAN from workstation to workstation copying files. I would expect extremely fast data transfer workstation to workstation / server to workstation in this simple network. Several things I need to admit: I'm not primarily a network guy. Funding is relatively low, I need to be the guy that finds the solution. I understand most of the terminology and most of the technology. Implementation is where I fail due to lack of experience. Getting to the point: I'm wondering whether experienced network admins think that our small network should be sufficiently served with our current hardware if configured properly... or if we should purchase new equipment and start fresh? If starting fresh is the plan, whatever that new equipment may be is a likely different question entirely. If I haven't provided enough information, I will happily do some troubleshooting and update with the results. I have experience using wireshark and some other tools. Please let me know what you think would be most helpful and thanks in advance. EDIT: I forgot to add that the Cisco applicance will not finish loading the SDM Express console. It hangs every time at the "populating modules... DHCP". It eventually crashes and closes. I've rebooted the hardware and this still happens.

    I'm using haproxy 1.5dev3 and I was wondering if there is any possible way to grab uri variables from a request to reappend the query on the end of a redirect url? What I'm trying to do is redirect from: http://www.domain.com/page/example.htm?id=1234567 to: http://www.domain.com/frame/newpage.cfm?id=1234567 redirect prefix doesn't work properly as it tries to append /page/example.htm to the end of the redirect url. Can I do some sort of rewrite to accomplish this? It would be awesome if you could use uri and queries as variables for redirection/pool selection like on F5. Please help...Thanks!

  • Synchronize pasteboard between remote tmux session and local Mac OS pasteboard

    Setup: I use iTerm2 on MacOS to connect to a remote server. The remote server runs tmux, in which I open files and edit in vim sessions. Problem: I can't copy/paste between the remote tmux session and the local iTerm client. I can use iTerm 2's alt/option + mouse selection to select text, but this copies over multiple vim panes/tmux panes - bad. Is there any elegant solution to make selections in tmux panes synchronize between the remote pasteboard and the local (MacOS pasteboard)? I've seen reattach-to-user-namespace, but I'm pretty certain it doesn't do what I want.

Will the harddrives be faster if I attach them separately so that one is on the Primary IDE controller and the other is on the Secondary IDE controller? Or would it just be as good as having them both on the Primary IDE as master and slave?

    I'm a *nix n00b that just installed dovecot (the selection with no ldap, mysql or pgsql) on OpenBSD 4.0 and I want to set it up for imap use, but I'm having a hard time finding documentation that I can understand. It currently running on port 143 (checked with telnet) but from there I need to do the following: I need some accounts, the once already on the system are fine if I can get those running (seemed to be some dovecot option somehow?), or just adding a few manually is ok too. Was there some setting for this in the default /etc/dovecot.conf? passdb bsdauth {} is uncommented by default... I need to create imap folders, or subfolders. How can I do that? Hopefully not, but anything else I need to do? I want to run without certification validation and no SSL/TLS, would this work by default (client-side settings)?

  • Is post-sudden-power-loss filesystem corruption on an SSD drive's ext3 partition "expected behavior"?

    My company makes an embedded Debian Linux device that boots from an ext3 partition on an internal SSD drive. Because the device is an embedded "black box", it is usually shut down the rude way, by simply cutting power to the device via an external switch. This is normally okay, as ext3's journalling keeps things in order, so other than the occasional loss of part of a log file, things keep chugging along fine. However, we've recently seen a number of units where after a number of hard-power-cycles the ext3 partition starts to develop structural issues -- in particular, we run e2fsck on the ext3 partition and it finds a number of issues like those shown in the output listing at the bottom of this Question. Running e2fsck until it stops reporting errors (or reformatting the partition) clears the issues. My question is... what are the implications of seeing problems like this on an ext3/SSD system that has been subjected to lots of sudden/unexpected shutdowns? My feeling is that this might be a sign of a software or hardware problem in our system, since my understanding is that (barring a bug or hardware problem) ext3's journalling feature is supposed to prevent these sorts of filesystem-integrity errors. (Note: I understand that user-data is not journalled and so munged/missing/truncated user-files can happen; I'm specifically talking here about filesystem-metadata errors like those shown below) My co-worker, on the other hand, says that this is known/expected behavior because SSD controllers sometimes re-order write commands and that can cause the ext3 journal to get confused. In particular, he believes that even given normally functioning hardware and bug-free software, the ext3 journal only makes filesystem corruption less likely, not impossible, so we should not be surprised to see problems like this from time to time. Which of us is right?   • Second partition with Windows 7 unmountable

    I'm using GRUB2 to dualboot Ubuntu and Windows 7. I installed Windows 7 some days ago and rewrote GRUB2 to cope with the dualboot. Everything went fine till yesterday - I could boot into both OS. Since this morning my laptop restarts every time I choose Windows 7 from the menu. Ubuntu is still working. As I tried to mount the partition with Windows 7 on Ubuntu it gave me return code 2, so this isn't working as well. I tried to reinstall GRUB2 to the MBR but it didn't help. I also tried to repair Windows 7 boot with it's install DVD, while trying so it showed me the following error: "Status: 0xc000000f Info: Boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible."   • Output Audio via HDMI and Analog Out Simultaneously

    I need to output the system audio from a desktop to both the HDMI output (sending to the display that functions as the room speakers) and via the analog stereo output (to feed the reference input on a microphone array for Skype). The only solution I've found so far for this is an HDMI Audio De-Embedder, but I'd really like to avoid buying another piece of hardware, so I'm hoping there's a way to do this inside software. So: Is there any way to make Windows 7 output all audio over both HDMI and Analog outs, simultaneously?

What would a reasonable range of signal strength be when my device is less than 5 feet from my router? House3 is my main router at 61% strength and that seems very low! Here's what I've been doing: - Tab / Shift+Tab to move focus through interactive window elements until it looks like a selection rectangle appears over one of the files in my window. - Alt+V, Alt+D to change appearance setting of a folder contents' icons. Doesn't always work, depending on what's selected at the time.

  • Assign fixed IP address via DHCP by DNS lookup

    Preface I'm building a virtualization environment with Ubuntu 14.04 and LXC. I don't want to write my own template since the upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04 has shown that backwards compatibility is not guaranteed. Therefore I'm deploying my virtual machines via lxc-create, using the default Ubuntu template. The DNS for the servers is provided by Amazon Route 53, so no local DNS server is needed. I also use Puppet to configure my servers, so I want to keep the manual effort on the deployment minimal. Now, the default Ubuntu template assigns IP addresses via DHCP. Therefore, I need a local DHCP server to assign IP addresses to the nodes, so I can SSH into them and get Puppet running. Since Puppet requires a proper DNS setup, assigning temporary IP addresses is not an option, the client needs to get the right hostname and IP address from the start. Question What DHCP server do I use and how do I get it to assign the IP address based only on the host-name DHCP option by performing a DNS lookup on that very host name? What I've tried I tried to make it work using the ISC DHCP server, however, the manual clearly states: Please be aware that only the dhcp-client-identifier option and the hardware address can be used to match a host declaration, or the host-identifier option parameter for DHCPv6 servers. For example, it is not possible to match a host declaration to a host-name option. This is because the host-name option cannot be guaranteed to be unique for any given client, whereas both the hardware address and dhcp-client-identifier option are at least theoretically guaranteed to be unique to a given client. I also tried to create a class that matches the hostname like this: class "my-client-name" { match if option host-name = "my-client-name"; fixed-address my-client-name.my-domain.com; } Unfortunately the fixed-address option is not allowed in class statements. I can replace it with a 1-size pool, which works as expected: subnet 10.103.0.0 netmask 255.255.0.0 { option routers 10.103.1.1; class "my-client-name" { match if option host-name = "my-client-name"; } pool { allow members of "my-client-name"; range 10.103.1.2 10.103.1.2; } } However, this would require me to administer the IP addresses in two places (Amazon Route53 and the DHCP server), which I would prefer not to do. About security Since this is only used in the bootstrapping phase on an internal network and is then replaced by a static network configuration by Puppet, this shouldn't be an issue from a security standpoint. I am, however, aware that the virtual machine bootstraps with "ubuntu:ubuntu" credentials, which I intend to fix once this is running.

The software I have been directed to use requests a .iso file (as I am familiar with from other os installs), but when inserting the DVD into either Windows 7 or Ubuntu 9.10 the disk is recognized only as a "Windows Support" DVD, with materials to "support Apple hardware with Windows." This is eventually intended for a hackintosh attempt on an ASUS EEEPC 1000HE netbook. This is an install disk. Thanks
