• How to make XP install ubuntu from USB?

  I want to install ubuntu on my PC which is running windows XP right now. I have made my pen drive bootable and have loaded Ubuntu on it. When I insert the pen drive at the time of booting of my PC, nothing happens and windows XP starts normally instead of asking me if I want to boot from my pen drive. Also when, I entered my BIOS setting to change the boot order there was no option of pen drive as a boot device. Please suggest me a way to install the OS using my already made bootable pen drive. And there's no problem with my pen drive cause I have tried it on my friends PC and it worked normally. Thanks in advance

• DISK BOOT FAILURE after upgrading power supply

  After upgrading my power supply, I get the following error message when trying to boot into Windows 7. DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER My Windows 7 installation is on a SATA hard drive. I'm able to fix this problem if I hook up my IDE hard drive, then it boots the SATA hard drive fine. I don't like this solution though because then that means my IDE hard drive is drawing power even though it isn't being used. Why would a newer power supply need the IDE hard drive hooked up just to boot into the SATA hard drive? There are no boot files on the IDE hard drive; it is completely empty. My old power supply did not need it hooked up in order to boot the SATA hard drive.

• How to copy/paste LARGE amounts of text in Windows

  I am not sure if this is more suited for Superuser or Stackoverflow, but here goes... A little bit of background: I'm learning SQL and was trying to make a very large table which I could use for optimization tests. Something generic with random values. I created a little Java program to do just that, and was able to put out a text file with 100,000 lines, each line being an SQL INSERT statement for a new random record. However, with anything much bigger than 100,000 lines, I had problems either opening/using the text file in any text editor, or copying/pasting the text to the windows clipboard and then into SQL Developer so I could execute it as a script. I'm probably overlooking something really obvious, or doing something really stupid. There has got to be a better way to do this, but I couldn't find anything through Google or Stackoverflow or Superuser. Thanks!

• How to make the cursor shape dependent on the current Vim mode using iTerm2 on OS X and zsh

  I am using zsh and iTerm2 to edit with Vim. I really love the integration and portability, and because of that I have chosen not to use MacVim. But.... I can't work out how to get my cursor to change from a block to a line when in Vim's insert mode. I've been lead to believe that it's not possible by standard means, but people seem to think that it is possible using zsh. I've done as much Google searching as I can take without an answer, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

• Needing to concatenate between cells that change daily. I want to be able to automate this vs manual

  I use concatenate to pull data together from different cells in my spreadsheet. Since my data changes daily, I want the formula to also change daily without having to manually input the new cell in the concatenate formula. I am looking for a way to do this but not sure how. Can anyone out there help me out please!? I appreciate the assistance in advance! Maybe this will help to explain what I need. I have a row of data from D4:AH4 that I insert daily based on the new day. When I use the concatenate and us the following formula: =CONCATENATE(TEXT('Raw Data'!B4,"m/d")," ",TEXT('Raw Data'!C4,"")," ",TEXT('Raw Data'!E4,"0.0%"))... E4 being the cell that changes daily where next day would be F4, G4, etc... All other parts of the formula will stay the same. I hope this helps! Thanks! :)

• Outlook Replies with Inline Comments

  I have a user who uses Word as his e-mail editor. Often when replying to an e-mail, he'll insert his comments into the body of the original e-mail. Since he is using Word as the editor, these show as [User Name] Comment Text in a contrasting color. However, some users see the comments in their Outlook, and others do not. I've tried Selecting/DeSelecting Word as the e-mail editor on the recipients, and it does not seem to make a difference. We are using Exchange 2007 with Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 clients along with a few Entourage Clients. There does not seem to be a pattern related to which client is used, but Entourage seems to be more likely to have the problem. TIA, Bill

  Installed Drupal 7 using the Web Platform installer on Windows 2008 For some reason, the file module, when you upload a file, uses the first few letters of the filename as the unique key to store in the database, which of course causes problems very fast. I don't think I want just a new numbered list format, I want something like the list of figures - where figures (or test case) can be defined anywhere in the doc with other headings and paragraphs between them, and I can insert a "List of figures" table at the beginning. So how do I do "test cases" and a "list of test-cases" table in the same way as figures work out of the box?

• Can't connect to Internet through WiFi, but can with cable

  I'm using Windows 7 32-bit, Toshiba Portege laptop. I want to connect to the WiFi, usually I can do that easily. But, I don't know.. maybe when I tried to install a Microsoft Research: Mesh Virtual WiFi that could connect more than 2 wireless networks. I wanna try in connecting both Wireless router and my personal Ad-Hoc. Now, my laptop don't recognize my WiFi, well, I can connect to the WiFi but it says: "Limited access" and doesn't really connect to the internet. But when I plug the LAN cable, it works. I know the problem is in the laptop's wireless connection or in the properties. Any help for this? UPDATE: The IP and DNS settings, I set to automatic, and when I ran diagnostic, Windows tells me that the wireless network adapter is the problem, but they told me to insert the LAN cable, so how to fix the wireless? They didn't tell me how to fix that.

  Word has the feature to repeat title row of a table when a table is so long that it spans a bunch of pages. I need to categorize my data into several pages, and I did that by splitting the table and insert page split to put them all in a page of itself. So now I got several page of data, but only the first page has title row. Is there anyway else to do this beside manually adding the title row to all the other pages?   Hello, I have a Bacula script that does an automatic backup of a Postgres Database. The script makes two backups using (pg_dump) of the data base : The schema only and the data only. /usr/bin/pg_dump --format=c -s $dbname --file=$DUMPDIR/$dbname.schema.dump /usr/bin/pg_dump --format=c -a $dbname --file=$DUMPDIR/$dbname.data.dump The problem is that I can't figure out how to restore it with pg_restore. Do I need to create the database and the users before then restore the schema and finally the data. I did the following : pg_restore --format=c -s -C -d template1 xxx.schema.dump pg_restore --format=c -a -d xxx xxx.data.dump This first restore creates the database with emtpy tables but the second gives many error like this one : pg_restore: [archiver (db)] COPY failed: ERROR: insert or update on table "Table1" violates foreign key constraint "fkf6977a478dd41734" DETAIL: Key (contentid)=(1474566) is not present in table "Table23". Any ideas?

• Sound leaks from speaker even when headphones are inserted

  I've a Dell Optiplex 960 (which I presume has a speaker inside the tower). This speaker is normally in use whenever I play music (lets call this "tower speaker"), and when I insert my headphones in the 3.5mm jack (of the tower), the tower speaker stops and the music is played through the headphones (an obvious thing to happen). But sometimes, the tower speaker starts playing the music even when the headphones are inserted! So, the music is played through both of them! This gets quite embarrassing. So, my question is - Is there a way to turn off this "tower speaker"? EDIT : I'm using Windows XP

  I'm trying to add an image as a full-page background in word. I've tried page layout -> page color -> fill effect -> picture which looks fine in the preview (though when I try to zoom in or out it no longer looks the same), but when printing it tiled the image instead of just showing it once. I've tried insert -> picture and then setting it to "behind text" and settings its location to (0,0), but then when trying to change the image size the "relative" option is greyed out, so I can't set it to 100% of page size: I guess I can set it manually to the page size, but is there another, simpler way to just set a single image as a background?

• Oracle redo log performance degradation when inserting

  I have a oracle 11g database. I'm testing in for inserts. The database running in noarchive mode. I have 3 redo log configured, each 2gb. I'm trying to insert data into test table. At begin it goes fine with 15k ins/second. I make a commit after 200 inserts. But after about 1.3m inserted records it become really slow, about 1-2k ins/second. As i noticed in resource explorer at this point we have filled all redo logs and so the inserts from this points work slow. So my question is why it become so slow when it fills redo logs, even if i commit each 200 records. And how this situation can be fixed ( except the turning off logging completely at inserts)

• New power supply, now computer doesn't recognise hard drive?

  Ok, I bought a new power supply, because my old one was too damn loud. I hooked it up to my PC, turned it on, everything is looking fine, start up detects my DVD drive, 2 hard disks.. then I get the message "BOOT FAILURE INSERT SYSTEM DISK". Now I've seen some other people talk about going into BIOS and changing the start up to the HDD and not the CD.. well I've done that and it doesn't help. If I let windows load up and it asks me to which partition I wish to install windows, no partition is present. It's as if after the initial start up the drives arn't being found. I plugged my old (but loud) PSU back in, connected up all the cables, and it works perfectly. Why does the new PSU not detect my HDD's after the first BIOS screen start up? Any ideas? :)

There is one hard drive (320GB capacity) in the system now, which contains the current installation that I would prefer to keep. The drive currently inside the laptop will be replaced with one of the Hitachi drives, and the other Hitachi drive will be fitted into the laptop by way of a Dell hard drive "caddy" enclosure, which inserts into the media bay of the laptop (you remove the cd-rom bay, insert hd-bay).

• Flash drive shows in My Computer but can't be accessed.

  I have a flash drive. When I plug it into my (Dell, Windows XP) computer it appears in My Computer as an empty drive - not a disk with no files on, a drive with no disk in! Double-clicking drive J: gives the message "Please insert a disk into drive J" (I get the same if I type in "J:" to the address bar, too...) Someone suggested going to properties and entering a name but it won't let me type in this box. I've looked in the disk manager and again it appears as an empty drive. I'm thinking that it might be fried...Can anyone give me any advice on how to either fix it or tell for sure that it's gone?

  Hello. I need to sync two PostgreSQL databases (some tables from development db to production db) sometimes. So I came up with this script: [...] pg_dump -a -F tar -t table1 -t table2 -U user1 dbname1 | \ pg_restore -a -U user2 -d dbname2 [...] The problem is that this works just for newly added rows. When I edit non-PK column I get constraint error and row isn't updated. For each dumped row I need to check if it exists in destination database (by PK) and if so delete it before INSERT/COPY. • Laptop held hostage by administrator domain and Bit locker

  I have a laptop computer that I had when I was working at an IT company. I don´t work there anymore but I could keep the computer (Lenovo) Suddenly my wireless internet didn´t work anymore showing error "insert SIM into the mobile broadband device" and month later connectiong to internet with cable got disabled I don´t know the password to sign in as an administrator on domain and whatever I try to do/install/change settings... everything needs admin rights. To surf the internet again with the computer I tried to install a new Windows but it´s seems to be protected with Bit Locker, asking for recovery key. I´ve googled and googled bunch of CMD tricks but most of the shows "system error 5 has occured" Is there anyway to get the wireless internet to work, change the admin or install new Windows? - or should I rather enjoying throwing it of the balcony or set it one fire? :)
