  • Microsoft Outlook: show multi-day appointments as boxes in calendar day and week view

    I would like to show appointments spanning several days the same way as appintments within a single day. Single day appointments are shown with a white or colored box, covering the day horizontally. Multi-day appointments are shown in the day/week header and are indicated blue or purple on the left side of a day. This happens even if a multi-day appointment is not an all-day appointment (i.e. checkbox is off) and I have a start and end time. I frequently have a hard time seeing appointment overlaps wenn acceping single day appointments. Therefore I am looking for multi-day appointments shown the same way as single day appointments. I am on Outlook 2003.

  • Microsoft IME + Japanese: Force Hiragana input by default?

    I am using Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7. On both machines, I cannot make Hiragana the default input method. Is there a way to do this? In the IME tool bar, there is the option to set the "Input Mode." This is always defaulted to "Direct Input." I would like to default to Hirgana or Katakana. I have found the setting dialog for this, by right clicking on the IME toolbar - settings - Japanese IME Standard - Properties - Default Input Mode. This setting seems to have no effect, no matter the combination of selections in the dialogs. Is there a way to reliably set the default Input Mode?

  • Daylight Savings Time and Microsoft Exchange woes

    Ever since the switch from Standard Time to Daylight Time, the time on our e-mail messages has been ahead by one hour. This symptom has me wondering if the cause is improper configuration of daylight savings settings. Since we're in a client/server environment, the clients synchronize with the server, and the server synchronizes with Boulder, Colorado. If I set both the server and the clients to automatically switch to daylight savings, the clients seem to regard the server as being set to Standard Time and set themselves an hour ahead of it, which is really two hours ahead. Should the server switch to daylight savings and the clients follow along on their next synchronization, or should the server stay on Standard Time and the clients switch over? The system clock on the Exchange Server is currently displaying the correct time. How do I get the e-mail messages to display the correct time in Outlook?

    I ran across a situation at work the other day where we were trying to move a pile of .url files on a Windows XP machine to bookmarks under Firefox on Mac OS X 10.5.8. It proved very frustrating, as we didn't have access to the source machine anymore (where we could have exported the bookmarks properly). Does anyone have a solution for that one?

    I just requested a hotfix from support.microsoft.com and put in my email address, but I haven't received the email yet. The splash page I got after I requested the hotfix said: Hotfix Confirmation We will send these hotfixes to the following e-mail address: (my correct email address) Usually, our hotfix e-mail is delivered to you within five minutes. However, sometimes unforeseen issues in e-mail delivery systems may cause delays. We will send the e-mail from the “[email protected]” e-mail account. If you use an e-mail filter or a SPAM blocker, we recommend that you add “[email protected]” or the “microsoft.com” domain to your safe senders list. (The safe senders list is also known as a whitelist or an approved senders list.) This will help prevent our e-mail from going into your junk e-mail folder or being automatically deleted. I'm sure that the email is not getting caught in a spam catcher. How long does it normally take to get one of these hotfixes? Am I waiting for some human to approve it, or something? Should I just give up and try to get the file I need some other way? (Update: Replaced "[email protected]" with "(my correct email address)" to resolve Martín Marconcini's ambiguity.)

  • Java Issues in Microsoft Internet Explorer & Firefox with Java 6 Standard

    I have a user on Windows XP SP3 running Java 6 Standard Edition Update 20 (build 1.6.0_20-b02). The issue is that when Java applets load the Java splash screen is very shaky (I will have to take a screenshot if you don't know what I am talking about) and than the Java applet screen does not show properly. The Applet we use most is for a security camera and you can't view the camera properly because of the Java issues. I have uninstalled Java and re-installed and still having the same issue. I do not see any errors on the Java Console, and this only happens on his computer I am running the same version of Java and the browsers and do not have the same issue on my machine.

    When I install a fresh copy of Windows XP Home (I bought it from the store.. not a copy), my PC rocks like lightening speed. But when I start installing all the updates, patches & less .NET 4.0 client (as the .NET 4.0 Client seems to bring machine to slow crawl). The PC starts to slow down.. like there are more resources to watch or something is happening in the background. So could I not get away with an awesome virus protector and an awesome firewall set-up and avoid all the patches? The machine I have is a quad 4, 4 GB RAM and 2.3 GHz process. Tons of room and the machine can run several applications at one time.. but when the updates happen.. it's s-l-o-w!

It works fine on servers at our office but when I ran it on our remote servers I got must issue a starttls command first So maybe there is a setting somewhere which is different between the two servers, and that's why it's working on one and not the other. How do I set the server so that it issues a "starttls commaned first"?

    Hello I have following markup and javascript to sort some items. Items can be sorted within a block or across other blocks. It works but I have a problem in retrieving correct block ID after an item is moved from one block to another. For example, if I move item 1 within "Block 1", I get "I am in Block= block_1" but if I move Item 1 to Block 2 I still get I am in Block 1. But I want to make the block 2 as its parent container. I need to retrieve this id so that I can do some ajax and update the db accordingly.   • Using jQuery with Windows 8 Metro JavaScript App causes security error

    Since it sounded like jQuery was an option for Metro JavaScript apps, I was starting to look forward to Windows 8 dev. I installed Visual Studio 2012 Express RC and started a new project (both empty and grid templates have the same problem). I made a local copy of jQuery 1.7.2 and added it as a script reference. <!-- SomeTestApp references --> <link href="/css/default.css" rel="stylesheet" /> <script src="/js/jquery-1.7.2.js"></script> <script src="/js/default.js"></script> Unfortunately, as soon as I ran the resulting app it tosses out a console error: HTML1701: Unable to add dynamic content ' a' A script attempted to inject dynamic content, or elements previously modified dynamically, that might be unsafe. For example, using the innerHTML property to add script or malformed HTML will generate this exception. Use the toStaticHTML method to filter dynamic content, or explicitly create elements and attributes with a method such as createElement. I slapped a breakpoint in a non-minified version of jQuery and found the offending line: div.innerHTML = " <link/><table></table><a href='/a' style='top:1px;float:left;opacity:.55;'>a</a><input type='checkbox'/>"; Apparently, the security model for Metro apps forbids creating elements this way. This error doesn't cause any immediate issues for the user, but given its location, I am worried it will cause capability-discovery tests in jQuery to fail that shouldn't. I would prefer to be able to use the selector engine and event handling systems, but I would live without them if I had to. How does one get the latest jQuery to play nicely with Metro development?

  • Grid sorting with persistent master sort

    I have a UI with a grid. Each record in the grid is sorted by a "master" sort column, let's call it a page number. Each record is a story in a magazine. I want the user to be able to drag and drop a record to a new position in the grid and automatically update the page number field to reflect the updated position. Easy enough, right? Now imagine that I also want to have the grid sortable by any other column (story title, section, author name, etc.). How does the drag and drop operation work now? Revert to page number sort during or after the drag and drop operation? This could confuse the user (why did my sort just change?). It would also result in arbitrary row positioning. Would the story now be before the row that was after it when the user dropped it? Or, would it be after the row that was before it? Those rows may now be widely separated after the master order sort. Disable the drag and drop feature if the grid isn't currently sorted by the page number? This would be easy, but the user might wonder why he can't drag and drop at certain times. Knowing to first sort by page number may not be very intuitive. Let the user rearrange his rows, but not make any changes to the page number? Require the user to enter a "Arrange Stories" mode, in which the grid sort is temporarily switched to page number and drag and drop is enabled? They would then exit the mode, and the previous sort would be reapplied. The big difference between this and the second option is that it would be more explicit than simply clicking on a column header. Any other ideas, or reasons why one of the above is the way to go? EDIT I'd like to point out that any of the above is technically possible, and easy to implement. My question is design-related. What is the most intuitive way to solve this problem, from the user's perspective?

  • Issues Converting Plain Text Into Microsoft Word Bulleted Lists

    I'm a programmer. I hate status reports. I found a way to live with it. While I am working in my IDE ( Visual Slickedit ) I keep a plain text file open in one of the file/buffer tabs. As I finish things I just jot down a quick note into that file. At the end of the week that becomes my weekly status report. Example entries: The Datatables.net plugin runs very slowly in IE 8 with more than 2,000 records. I changed the way I did the server side code to process the data to make less work for the plugin to get decent performance for the IE 8 users. I made a class to wrap data from the new data collection objects into the legacy data holder objects. This will let the new database code be backward compatible with the legacy code until we can replace it. I found the bug reported by Jane. The software is fine. The database we use for the test site has data that is corrupted in a way it wouldn't be for production site At the end of the month I go back to each weekly *.txt file and paste all of the entries into a MS Word file for a monthly report. I give the monthly report to a liason to the contracting company who has to compile everyone's monthly reports into a single MS Word 2007 document. His problem, soon to be my problem, comes when he highlights my paragraphs like the ones above to put bullets in front of my paragraphs. When he highlights my notes to put bullets in front of them with MS Word 2007, Word rearranges the text a bit and the new line chars/carriage returns stagger the text so the text is no longer in neat chunks. It just puts some kind of newline character in anyway. Searching/Replacing those chars in the text files has the result of destroying the paragraphs. Once my notes are pasted into MS Word, Word automatically translates them into paragraph breaks. Searching/Replacing them there has similar results. Blank lines separating the notes disappears. One big mess. What I would like is to be able to keep adding my status notes to a text file as I am now, but do something different when I paste the notes into MS Word such that my liason can select the text, hit the bulleting command and NOT have the staggered text as shown above.     I'm looking into using InTune and Office 365, mainly for the licensing benefits it brings but also because our company is moving to having more users based around the globe and I feel it will make managing the computers easier. Currently we have a SBS2008 (Premium) server running Exchange and File and Print which I need to keep for File and Print (Exchange can move to Office 365). I cant find any information on how the AD is synchronized between InTune and the SBS server (as users will still needs access control to file shares on the SBS server). Does anyone have any experience in doing this or even know if its possible? Richard

  • Missing parameter error after running MySql query

When trying to update a record, the update does happen but then throws an error saying "'id' parameter is missing at the statement".   • Intermittent FTP login issues (Microsoft IIS FTP Service)

    I've got a somewhat weird problem which I'm not sure how to troubleshoot. We have a FTP running on a Windows Server 2003 machine using the IIS FTP Service, this is for our clients and is configured with IP-restrictions. However, now ONE of the clients starts complaining that they can't log in to the server from time to time. This is just ONE of 10+ clients that have this issue, which makes me think it's a problem on their side. Just to be on the safe side I had a peek into the FTP logs and found something strange.   • How to have internet connection over VPN while "Microsoft Firewall Client for ISA server" is running

    I have the software mentioned in the title running on my machine. When I connect over VPN to my company's network, my internet connection gets borked, because somehow the ISA firewall blocks it. This is completely idiotic, because my work involves extensive use of the internet, so having to disconnect and reconnect continuously seriously cripples my productivity. (Meaning: I'm tearing my hair out here.) Can I have my VPN connection and somehow still have my internet connection too? I'm open to any solution.

    I am using the DNS role in Windows Server 2008 R2. I have my records set up correctly with the following CNAMEs: {removed domain names for security} Currently, only the 'wsp' cname works. All the records are identically set up. I have checked with a DNS checker, and the other two CNAMEs do not resolve to anything. I have tried restarting the server, re-creating the forward lookup zone. Can anyone see what is wrong? 'A' records work fine when set.

  • Trouble setting up incoming VPN in Microsoft SBS 2008 through a Cisco ASA 5505 appliance

    I have replaced an aging firewall (custom setup using Linux) with a Cisco ASA 5505 appliance for our network. It's a very simple setup with around 10 workstations and a single Small Business Server 2008. Setting up incoming ports for SMTP, HTTPS, remote desktop etc. to the SBS went fine - they are working like they should. However, I have not succeeded in allowing incoming VPN connections. The clients trying to connect (running Windows 7) are stuck with the "Verifying username and password..." dialog before getting an error message 30 seconds later. We have a single external, static IP, so I cannot set up the VPN connection on another IP address. I have forwarded TCP port 1723 the same way as I did for SMTP and the others, by adding a static NAT route translating traffic from the SBS server on port 1723 to the outside interface. In addition, I set up an access rule allowing all GRE packets (src any, dst any). I have figured that I must somehow forward incoming GRE packets to the SBS server, but this is where I am stuck. I am using ADSM to configure the 5505 (not console). Any help is very much appreciated!

I want when I move the slider to move a dot on the chart accordingly with the slider position. See attached screenshot: As you can see it seems to work fine. I've implemented this behaviour using the pathIntersection() method. On the slide event at each ui.value (x coordinate) I intersect my chartPath (the one from above) with a vertical straight line at the x coordinate. But still there are some problems. One of them is that it runs very hard, and it kinda freezes sometimes.. and very weird sometimes it doesn't seem to intersect at all even it should.. I'll example below 2 cases I identified: M 499.8461538461538 0 L 499.8461538461538 140 M 910 0 L 910 140 Could you please explain why this intersect behaviour happens (it should return a dot).. and the worst part it seems like it happens randomly.. if I use another chartdata. Also if you can identify another (better) solution to syncronise the slider position with the dot on the chart.. would be perfect. I thought about using Element.getPointAtLength(length), but I don't know how. I think I should save the pathSegments and for each to compute the start Length and the finish Length.
