  • Differences between 'Add web site/solution to source control...'

    - by Andy Rose
I have opened a website website hosted on my workstation in Visual Studio 2008 and saved it as solution. I now want to add this to source contol and I am being given the option to either 'Add solution to source control...' or 'Add web site to source control...'. This solution needs to be accessed, worked on and run locally by several other developers so I was wondering what the key differences are between each option and which would be the best to choose?

    - by Sam
When I try to select the following "File Open Web Site" or use the shortcut key "Shift + Alt + O" (which does the same), Visual Studio 2008 hangs with the loading mouse icon for about 8-10 seconds then the file. But if I do "File Open Project/Solution.." or "File Open File..." the explorer window comes up in under a second, instantly most times. - by ggfan
Given that someone has almost an equal understanding of coding(java, php, etc) and web designing(css, xml, photoshop) and wants to create a functional site. Which generally would be more time-consuming. There is obviously lots of considerations...but in general Just curious, because i am learning everything from books and now putting coding and design into practice and the css is kicking my *.

  • What is(are) currently the best language(s) for modern web site design? Recommendations?

    - by Jereme Hall
I'm a little out of date, before HTML4 and javascript got AJAXy. Does anyone have opinions about the best tools for web site design? I'd rather avoid ASP and .NET, since I've got a limited budget. This seems like a good time to start fresh. Please keep the replies on the coding recommendations, as I already know how to register a domain name, redirect it, set up Apache. (I could use some opinions on the various Apache flavors)

  • Why do browsers use my saved password for all forms in the one site?

    - by user313272
Is there a way to limit the url of saved credentials in browsers? For example, if I save a username and password for http://www.website.com/login can I make it so that the rest of the forms in the site don't use these details? http://www.website.com/members, http://www.website.com/admin etc... I'm aware of the autocomplete attribute but I don't want to turn off autocomplete entirely. I would like it if the browser remembered the login details per form or url.

  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of a web site that contains a single page ?

    - by Misha Moroshko
I would like to code a little web site that will contain several sections like "Home", "Gallery", "Contact Us", "FAQs", and so on. I thought to do this in one HTML by putting each section in a div and show only one div per time (using Javascript / jQuery), based on the chosen menu button. Alternatively, I could create a separate HTML page per section, and link these pages to the menu buttons. What are the advantages and disadvantages of these two methods ?

  • Can a Site get a Virus from using Curl?

    - by Mark Tyler
    I have a script which uses simple php curl requests to get the contents from rss/atom feeds.... now my question is it possible that by using curl, is there a chance i might get a virus? Let's say I do a php curl request to a rss feed in feedburner (I know this site does not contain any viruses, but this is only an example) and let's say this site has a malicious virus of some kind. Is there a chance that I might inherit that virus too? If yes, what precautions can I do to make sure something like that never happens. This is the php code I am currently using to fetch the RSS $headers [] = 'Connection: Keep-Alive'; $headers [] = 'Content-type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded; charset=utf-8'; $headers [] = 'Accept-Encoding: application/xhtml+xml,application/xml,text/xml,text/html;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8'; $ch = curl_init($url); //curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_USERAGENT,'Phenoix/0.1.3 (Feed Parser Beta; Beta ; Allow like Gecko) Build/20111112'); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_USERAGENT,'Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1'); //curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_REFERER, "http://google.com/auto/clogger"); //curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_ENCODING, 'gzip, deflate' ); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HTTPHEADER, $headers ); //curl_setopt($channel, CURLOPT_HEADER, 0); curl_setopt($ch, CURLINFO_HEADER_OUT, 1); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_VERBOSE, true); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER, false); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION, 1); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_TIMEOUT, 10); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_CONNECTTIMEOUT, 10); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_FAILONERROR, 1); //allow cookie $cookie_file = "cookie1.txt"; curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_COOKIESESSION, true); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_COOKIEFILE, $cookie_file); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_COOKIEJAR, $cookie_file); $xml = curl_exec($ch); if(curl_error($ch)){ //$text .= "Error while updating. Please try again later"; return array(0, curl_error($ch)); } $info = curl_getinfo($ch); curl_close($ch);

  • How to handle different screen resolution /screen size when developing a site ?

    - by Misha Moroshko
I would like to develop a site using jQuery that will work with all major browsers. I thought to start with a basic layout (a header, a couple of tabs with content, and footer). I wonder how should I create this layout to support different screen resolution, screen size, or window size. Should I work in pixels / points / percents when defining width and height of the components ? Are there any jQuery plugins that can help me with this task ? Thanks !
