  • SRSS Client Print Module must be downloaded every use

    I am currently having an issue with SQL Server Reporting Services. Everytime a user clicks the print button for the report, the user must install the ActiveX client print module. The issue is that our clients are not admins on their computers. So therefore they can not install the module. I have gotten around this roughly by adding the SQL address to trust sites, setting "Download signed Active Controls" to enable, and then giving the users permission to write to "C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files". However, this is fix is not easy to distrubute to our user base. I am using SQL Server 2008 SP3 CU3 running on Server 2008 R2. I believe the browser thinks the version is newer than what is on the server. I have tried downloading the print module CAB file from the SQL server and installing manually. That did not work either. The approaches are as follows Create a single table for whole organisation and store empid,date,presentstatus as a row for every employee everyday.     We have a small relatively idle windows server 2008 R2 installation that does basic filesharing and exchange for about 10 not very active users. When running a windows server backup, the incremental data daily is about 20GB. This is not coming from users shared files, nor from changes in their mailbox sizes. The total size of the installation is 249GB, which is mostly old files. Where is all this data coming from, and how can I reduce it ? Using online backup of the vhd file from the backup is taking a while because of this daily change. Is there some way I can at least see what files are changing and contributing to this data ? Options I can think of but am not sure about: 1) pagefile churning - altho the backup does not include the pagefile, perhaps the changed blocks left behind are included ? 2) logs or something ? but the installation size stays the same every day 3) should I zero free space using sdelete before backing up perhaps ?

    I want to use a server as a device to run a script to parse a SMS text in the following way. I. The person types in a specific and special cell phone number (Similar to Facebook’s 32556 number used to post on your wall) II. The user types a text message. III. The user sends the text message. IV. The message is sent to some kind of Device (the server) or SMS Gateway and receives it. V. The thing described above that the message is sent to then parse the test message. I understand that these three question will mix Programming and Server Stuff and could reside here or at DBA.SE How would I make such a cell phone number (described in step I) that would be sent to the Device? How do I create the device that then would receive it? Finally, how do I Parse the text message? I don't want to pay for cloud space, server scripting stuff or server space; I want to just use a free webserver to do this totally free - meaning I will have to do more on my own...     I have developed a Windows application in c# in which multiple users can add some numbers and their name and can view the data entered. The problem that I have is that the sever is on my laptop and every time I log off or close my laptop, they are losing connection to the DB and can not add or view any more. It seems that the port is closed or something. Is there a way to keep the port and their connection established all the time even when I'm logging out?

    Basically I have a website hosted by a web hosting company which I have limited access to (ftp upload etc). I have a home server which I use to record and store audio files. Is there an elegant way or best practice to host a page on the webserver which links to the audio files? I'm considering hosting a page on the home server and redirecting to that from the web server, or setting up something like rsync to push the audio files to the web server - I'm just not certain which solution would be best.

    I would like to hear some”real life experience” suggestions if foreign key restrictions are good or bad thing to enforce in DB. I would kindly ask students/beginners to refrain from jumping and answering quickly and without thinking. At the beginning of my career I thought that stupidest thing you can do is disregard the referential integrity. Today, after "few" projects I'm thinking different. Quite different.
