• Problems with input and suspend(separately)

  I'm still very new at Ubuntu/any other linux OS, so this might be an easy fix for most. I installed Ubuntu 14.04 a few days ago, it's dual-booted with Windows 8.1 and I'm using a Toshiba laptop. Whenever I suspend/close my computer, and then open it again, the front LEDs will light up telling me that it's running, but the screen will not do anything. I can hear the fan spinning, but it's almost like the screen doesn't power on like it should. Also, another problem I'm having, is that ~60% of the time, my trackpad and keyboard do not work at all, this starts as soon as Ubuntu boots up. To fix it, I just turn it off and back on until it works. My USB mouse does work no matter what though. Both problems are only present in Ubuntu and not windows 8.1.

• Ubuntu launch option on startup remains

  I used windows installer to install Ubuntu and it was getting errors on bootup. Well that didn't work, I guess I'll try and boot from a USB to install it. However, after messing around with uninstalling (aka deleting Ubuntu folder after booting into Win7) I cannot get rid of the launch option. There is nothing in Computer Management because I never actually booted into Ubuntu to create space on my HDD for the OS. I can't just uninstall using Program and Features in Control Panel (because I already deleted the folder) Now everytime I boot up it gives me the options of booting into Windows 7 or Ubuntu, how do I disable this page/get rid of the Ubuntu launch option?

• Partition Hard Drive For Data

  Greetings ~ I am a new Linux/Ubuntu user. For various reasons (mostly my own ignorance) I am on my third install of Ubuntu 12.04. I want to partition the hard drive to create a drive for data and personal files in case I ever have to install again. I have been struggling all afternoon to make a gparted live USB. Tuxboot looked like the answer but I get an error message when using it. So, I am asking for help. Ultimately, I want to partition the hard drive for data and personal files. What do you recommend?

• Custom session: Window does not capture full screen area by default. 12.04

  I am trying to create a custom session by creating a custom.desktop file in /usr/share/xesessions folder. Remember this is not a gnome or some other session. I have created my own application for this session, which are simple. Case 1 Chrome Browser Contents of custom.desktop file [Desktop Entry] Name=Internet Kiosk Comment=This is an internet kiosk Exec=google-chrome --kiosk TryExec= Icon= Type=Application Issue Chrome browser starts in kiosk mode but does not capture complete screen area. Some area is left at the bottom and right side of the screen. Case 2 Custom pyGTK app (Quickly) Contents of custom.desktop file [Desktop Entry] Name=Custom Kiosk Comment=This is a custom kiosk Exec=~/MyCustomPyGTKApp TryExec= Icon= Type=Application Issue My custom pyGTK app has window.fullScreen() in the code. That means it should open in full screen without the window chrome (and it does under the normal session). But that too, leaves lots of space around it. Need Help Can anyone tell me whats going on here. I think its some issue with borders as pointed out at http://www.instructables.com/id/Setting-Up-Ubuntu-as-a-Kiosk-Web-Appliance/?ALLSTEPS in Step 8 If by chance, Google Chromium is not stretched to the edges with the --kiosk switch enabled there is a simple fix. To stretch Chromium simply log in as your regular user and edit chromeKiosk.sh to not have the --kiosk switch. Then log in as the restricted user, click the wrench and choose options. Then on the Personal Stuff tab select Hide system title bar and use compact borders. Close the options screen and stretch Chromium to fit the monitor. Then go back into the options window and set it to Use system title bar and borders. After this is done, log out of your restricted user (might need to just reboot) and log into your regular user. Edit chromeKiosk.sh back to include the --kiosk switch again and Chromium should be full screen next time you log into the restricted user. If I were to use a custom pyGTK or a gtkmm app, how should I get around this issue. window.fullScreen() should occupy the complete screen area. This has to be done programmatically or in some other way that can scale. I have to deploy this on large number of machines located at different geographical areas. Doing it manually on every machine is not possible.

• SQL – Biggest Concerns in a Data-Driven World

  The ongoing chaos over Government Agency’s snooping has ignited a heated debate on privacy of personal data and its use by government and/or other institutions. It has created a feeling of disapproval and distrust among users. This incident proves to be a lesson for companies that are looking to leverage their business using a data driven approach. According to analysts, the goal of gathering personal information should be to deliver benefits to both the parties – the user as well as the data collector(government or business). Using data the right way is crucial, and companies need to deploy the right software applications and systems to ensure that their efforts are well-directed. However, there are various issues plaguing analysts regarding available software, which are highlighted below. According to a InformationWeek 2013 Survey of Analytics, Business Intelligence and Information Management where 541 business technology professionals contributed as respondents, it was discovered that the biggest concern was deemed to be the scarcity of expertise and high costs associated with the same. This concern was voiced by as many as 38% of the participants. A close second came out to be the issue of data warehouse appliance platforms being expensive, with 33% of those present believing it to be a huge roadblock. Another revelation made in this respect was that 31% professionals weren’t even sure how Data Analytics can create business opportunities for them. Another 17% shared that they found data platform technologies such as Hadoop and NoSQL technologies hard to learn. These results clearly pointed out that there are awareness and expertise issues that also need much attention. Unless the demand-supply gap of Business Intelligence professionals well versed in data analysis technologies is met, this divide is going to affect how companies make the most of their BI campaigns. One of the key action points that can be taken to salvage the situation, is to provide training on Data Analytics concepts. This BIC2g image is based on OBIEE v. 11.1.1.7. with Essbase and Essbase Studio Server started when starting BI. It also contains: Updated BI-Apps Cross Functional Demo (date advanced from 2011 to 2013), including DAC 11.1.1.6.4, Informatica 9.0.1 and is configured for a load against EBS R12. • Enterprise Service Bus (ESB): Important architectural piece to a SOA or is it just vendor hype?

  Is an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) an important architectural piece to a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), or is it just vendor hype in order to sell a particular product such as SOA-in-a-box? According to IBM.com, an ESB is a flexible connectivity infrastructure for integrating applications and services; it offers a flexible and manageable approach to service-oriented architecture implementation. With this being said, it is my personal belief that ESBs are an important architectural piece to any SOA. Additionally, generic design patterns have been created around the integration of web services in to ESB regardless of any vendor. ESB design patterns, according to Philip Hartman, can be classified in to the following categories: Interaction Patterns: Enable service interaction points to send and/or receive messages from the bus Mediation Patterns: Enable the altering of message exchanges Deployment Patterns: Support solution deployment into a federated infrastructure Examples of Interaction Patterns: One-Way Message Synchronous Interaction Asynchronous Interaction Asynchronous Interaction with Timeout Asynchronous Interaction with a Notification Timer One Request, Multiple Responses One Request, One of Two Possible Responses One Request, a Mandatory Response, and an Optional Response Partial Processing Multiple Application Interactions Benefits of the Mediation Pattern: Mediator promotes loose coupling by keeping objects from referring to each other explicitly, and it lets you vary their interaction independently Design an intermediary to decouple many peers Promote the many-to-many relationships between interacting peers to “full object status” Examples of Interaction Patterns: Global ESB: Services share a single namespace and all service providers are visible to every service requester across an entire network Directly Connected ESB: Global service registry that enables independent ESB installations to be visible Brokered ESB: Bridges services that are reluctant to expose requesters or providers to ESBs in other domains Federated ESB: Service consumers and providers connect to the master or to a dependent ESB to access services throughout the network References: Mediator Design Pattern. • Small script to look for Project Replication actions that have failed

  Today when looking at a couple of projects on a ZFS 7320 Storage Appliance I noticed on one project that one of its replication actions had failed, as I hadn't checked the Recent Alerts log yet I was not aware of this. I decided to write a small script to check if there were others that had failed. Nothing fancy, just a loop through all projects, look at the project's replication child and compare the values of the last_sync and last_try properties and print the result if they're not equal. I am able to do encoding with a usb connected web cam but I cannot find a way to use the encoder to connect to ip camera connected to our switch. Does anyone have experience setting up an ip camera to encode into the Silverlight framework?

• Hypercom P2100 pinpad programming

  Hey guys, i have got a Hypercom P2100 pinpad that i need to incorporate in my POS app. I tried to access it through hyperterminal but didn't succeed. It is connected to my machine through a USB to Serial interface, could that be the source of problem. In addition, upon googling the programming samples that i could find just showed, at max, reading data on serial port but nothing on programming the pinpad itself. Any help is greatly appreciated.
