    I have ubuntu 9.10 server. Firstly, is OpenSSH the same as SSHD? Secondly, In the terminal when typing whereis sshd i get this: whereis sshd /usr/sbin/sshd Also when typing whereis openssh i get this: whereis openssh /usr/lib/openssh How do I know if I have openssh? Also, some tutorials online suggest opening sshd_config, so when typing this: whereis sshd_config /usr/share/man/man5/sshd_config.5.gz // I get this... What should I do, because as you have answered my other Q about security, you have pointed out that it is the way you configure your ssh and etc which is important. Is there any guide for this? How should I configure this? I will be the only user for this server btw... If you need more input let me know and I will update this Q. Thanks

  • Mac OS X Server DNS Questions

    Just for a new mac server in the office, initially it was for my personal use as a web development box but now the boss wants me to set it up with all the bells and whistles it comes with. I'm having some issues with the following... Lets just say my business is example.com I want the server's actual address to be labs.example.com and accessible to the world. What do I need to set up at my domain registrar to let the domain know where to go, and what do I need to set up with my hosting company to make this work, and finally what do I need to set up in the server admin panel to get it to work. It seems that DNS not working is first hurdle I need to jump but the documentation around the internet is pretty terrible. Thank you community.

    Hi, I have a set of training data consisting of 20 multiple choice questions (A/B/C/D) answered by a hundred respondents. The answers are purely categorical and cannot be scaled to numerical values. 50 of these respondents were selected for free product trial. The selection process is not known. What interesting knowledge can be mined from this information? The following is a list of what I have come up with so far- A study of percentages (Example - Percentage of people who answered B on Qs.5 and got selected for free product trial) Conditional probabilities (Example - What is the probability that a person will get selected for free product trial given that he answered B on Qs.5) Naive Bayesian classifier (This can be used to predict whether a person will be selected or not for a given set of values for any subset of questions). Can you think of any other interesting analysis or data-mining activities that can be performed? The usual suspects like correlation can be eliminated as the response is not quantifiable/scoreable. Is my approach correct?

  • PHP Exec command - How to pass input to a series of questions

    I have a program on my linux server that asks the same series of questions each time it executes and then provides several lines of output. My goal is to automate the input and output with a php script. I know how to capture the output in an array by writing: $out = array(); exec("my/path/program",$out); But how do I handle the input? Assume the program asks 3 questions and valid answers are: left 120 n What is the easiest way using php to pass that input to the program? Can I do it somehow on the exec line? I’m not a php noob but simply have never needed to do this before. Alas, my googling is going in circles.

We are to make database-oriented app, with special attenion to pay on db security (access control, encryption, integrity, backups)... Database will also keep some personal information about people, which is considered sensitive by law regulations, so security must be good. I worked on school projects with databases, but this is first time working "in real world", where this db security has real implications.     I (and co-hackers) are building a sort of trivia game inspired by this blog post: http://messymatters.com/calibration. The idea is to give confidence intervals and learn how to be calibrated (when you're "90% sure" you should be right 90% of the time). We're thus looking for, ideally, thousands of questions with unambiguous numerical answers. Also, they shouldn't be too boring. There are a lot of random statistics out there -- eg, enclosed water area in different countries -- that would make the game mind-numbing. Things like release dates of classic movies are more interesting (to most people). Other interesting ones we've found include Olympic records, median incomes for different professions, dates of famous inventions, and celebrity ages.     Hello - I have a few questions (so far) with the the LocationManager on Android and GPS in general.. Feel free to answer any number of the questions below, and I appreciate your help in advance! (I noticed this stuff doesn't appear to be documented very well, so hopefully these questions will help others out too!) 1) I am using the following code, but I think there may be extra fluff in here that I do not need. Can you tell me if I can delete any of this? LocationManager lm = (LocationManager) getSystemService(Context.LOCATION_SERVICE); LocationListener locationListener = new MyLocationListener(); lm.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER, 0, 0, locationListener); LocationProvider locationProvider = lm.getProvider("gps"); Location currentLocation = lm.getLastKnownLocation(locationProvider.getName()); 2) Is there a way to hold off on the last step (accessing "getLastKnownLocation" until after I am sure I have a GPS lock? What happens if this is called and GPS is still looking for signal? 3) MOST importantly, I want to ensure I have a GPS lock before I proceed to my next method, so is there a way to check to see if GPS is locked on and getLastKnownLocation is up to date? 4) Is there a way to 'shut down' the GPS listener once it does receive a lock and getLastKnownLocation is updated? I don't see a need to keep this running for my application once I have obtained a lock.. 5) Can you please confirm my assumption that "getLastKnownLocation" is updated frequently as the receiver moves? 6) In my code, I also have a class called "MyLocationListener" (code below) that I honestly just took from another example.. Is this actually needed?     Hi, I am creating small django application which holds some few questions (and answers for them) What I want to do is to show user random question, but only from those which was not solved by him yet. I wonder how to do this. For now, I defined user profile model this way: class UserProfile(models.Model): rank = models.IntegerField(default = 1) solvedQ = models.ManyToManyField(Question) user = models.ForeignKey(User, unique=True) So solved problems are added this way: if user.is_authenticated(): profile = user.get_profile() profile.rank += 1 profile.solvedQ.add(Question.objects.get(id=id)) Now if the view must show random question, but not from already solved list... Is there a good way to intersect Questions and solvedQuestions.... so question is chosen from the unsolved list?

    Background: On a new project I've found myself 3 levels removed from my actual source of information. I report to my PM, who reports to our contractor, who reports to the actual client. Getting answers to questions has become something of a problem and I'm curious to know what people recommend. Needs: I'm trying to find a technology or disciplined strategy that will assist me in ensuring that the questions I'm asking are getting answered: Correctly without much modification of the original question Quickly so the original context isn't lost Completely so that if a question is deferred I don't forget about it.   • WCF net.tcp bindings, message formats and security questions

    Hi, sorry for the stupid questions but there are just some things about WCF I cant get my head around. Would be greatful for some advice on the following.... At a very basic level is it correct that WCF uses either Binary (Net.Tcp), HTTP or MSMQ to transfer my message on the wire? However is it true that in all cases, regardless of how the data is transferred the message itself in in the SOAP format with headers and a body? So its a sort of XML message that is transmitted in either HTTP/S or in a binary format. Is Net.Tcp a good choice for my client server app - its similar to a messenger app in that the clients are all remote users on the other side of the firewall to my server. Most things I am reading are telling to use WS* and HTTP. Is Net.Tcp secured by standard and without certificates? - that is - people cannot listen on the wire and decode the data thats going to and from. Is it possible to send a username and password using net.tcp and without an installed certificate? If so I presume I can hook this up to my membership provider and authenticate access to each method on my service contract implementation. I presume that with username and password security, the proxy is initialised with the username and password and that this information is is sent with every request. Then my membership provider will be invoked for each method call and do whatever it needs to do to get the authorisation for the method. Sorry for the dump of questions but would be great to know if Im thinking the right way about how WCF works. Thanks.

  • Help/Questions About New Team Foundation Server 2010 Installation

    Hello. Before starting down the TFS2010 installation process, I have a few questions I'm hoping the community can help me with. We're planning on a single-server installation of TFS2010. Initially, we want version/source control and build services, but not reporting or SharePoint. We may add reporting and SharePoint capabilities later. Our environment will be Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64), SQL Server 2008 R2 (x64), Office 2010 (x86), Visual Studio 6 and 2010, and, of course, Team Foundation Server 2010. Can I install TFS2010 on a server that is on our domain? It's not a domain controller, it's just a member server on the domain. Should I install TFS2010 before or after putting the server on the domain? We have six developers that will be logging into their local development computers (which are also on the same domain) using their domain user accounts, do I add each domain user to the TFS2010 server's security groups? If so, which one(s)? Can I or should I use a domain user account as the TFS2010 service account? Or, should I just use Network Service? The TFS2010 install guide notes that none of the service accounts should belong to the Administrators security group, so which security group(s) are recommended for the service account(s)? We're planning on using a local instance of SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard with TFS2010, what service account should we use? Should we use the same domain account as TFS2010 or Local System or ?? The TFS2010 install guide isn't very specific on this. Since we're planning on this server being both the version/source control and build server, should we install our development environments (VS6, VS2010, Access2010) before installing TFS2010? Or does it matter? Thanks in advance for answering these questions.

  • Questions regarding ordering of catch statements in catch block - compiler specific or language stan

    I am currently using Visual Studio Express C++ 2008, and have some questions about catch block ordering. Unfortunately, I could not find the answer on the internet so I am posing these questions to the experts. I notice that unless catch (...) is placed at the end of a catch block, the compilation will fail with error C2311. For example, the following would compile: catch (MyException) { } catch (...) { } while the following would not: catch (...) { } catch (MyException) { } a. Could I ask if this is defined in the C++ language standard, or if this is just the Microsoft compiler being strict? b. Do C# and Java have the same rules as well? c. As an aside, I have also tried making a base class and a derived class, and putting the catch statement for the base class before the catch statement for the derived class. This compiled without problems. Are there no language standards guarding against such practice please?

  • Blackberry Permission Questions - "Prompt" acts differently on different devices

    I have a few questions about permissions and prompts. Most importantly this has to do with making a data connection and using GPS QUESTIONS 1. Prompts & Allow - Remove Notice?: When installing my app (signed) on various devices, some devices prompt the user about making a data connection and some do not (the connection is just made). I check the permissions, and on both devices they are data connection is set to prompt. Why would one device just make a connection and the other requires a prompt? NOTE: both devices are on the same carrier (verision) and and are not restricted by BES. 2. Premission Dialog in Recent Build: In the recent build the user is promted about allowing a data request. In previous version builds this pompt never occured (even though both builds make a data connection that might require a prompt). For the life of me I can't tell what I might have changes that resulted in pompts now occuring. Is there anything I should check in the build/project/files so these prompts wont appear any longer? 3. Set Permissions On Install?: Is there any way to enforce permissions (say to allow) on install of the app? I know I can do invokePermissionsRequest but that will then occur during when running the app. Ideally I'd like to get permissions settled without user involvement or during install. Some facts to note: Developing for 4.2.1 and above Apps are signed Apps make use of data connection and GPS Thanks in advance!
