  Why does C# not allow const and static on the same line? In Java, you must declare a field as 'static' and 'final' to act as a constant. Why does C# not let you declare const's as final? I make the further distinction that in Java, every interface is public and abstract, whether this is explicitly declared or not. Aren't const's effectively static in nature? WHy does C# balk at this?

  Is there a tool which could be used to analyse the objects being created between two separate garbage collection run (= number of objects created and their type) ? Heapdumps dont really work here as they perform a GC when they're invoked (or at least that's what I observed everytime so far), and I want to see which objects are collected by the GC, not which objects are left after the GC run, if that makes sense. ...or is it possible somehow to inspect the nature and size of objects being collected by the garbage collector ?

Is this simply the objc equivalent of a #define that's limited to the method's scope?   I have an application that has drag and drop functionality to import images and video's. While developing, and testing through Visual Studio this has never given any problems. After installing through a set up project, everything in the application works fine, except the drag and drop, which seems to be doing nothing. Are there any security settings that need to be set through an installer, or something of that nature that could be preventing drag and drop after installation ?

• Understanding java's native threads and the jvm

  I understand that the jvm is itself an application that turns the bytecode of the java executable into native machine code, but when using native threads I have some questions that I just cannot seem to answer. Does every thread create their own instance of the jvm to handle their particular execution? If not then does the jvm have to have some way to schedule which thread it will handle next, if so wouldn't this render the multi-threaded nature of java useless since only one thread can be ran at a time?

• Windows Can't Find SepSysPlant.exe?

  In the last two days I've suddenly started receiving the following error message: "Windows cannot find'C:\WINDOWS\sepsysplant.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and try again.To Search for a file, click the start." It comes and goes with no apparent association with any running applications. I only have a bare minimum of programs installed as this is a work machine (XP Pro SP3) and the Symantec virus scan (today's definitions) were unable to find anything. After a quick Google search I found 4 results all of which were asking the question or stating the existence of the file and the Yahoo search resulted with nothing. Anyone know what's causing this a way of tracking down what it is?

• Cisco VPN Client connects but unable to ping or RDP

  I'm a developer and don't have much networking expertise, so bare with me. I'm using the Cisco VPN Client 5.0.02.0090 to connect to my work's VPN that way I can RDP into my work computer. Once connected, I can't ping anything on the local network once connected to the VPN thus I am unable to access my work's network. This used to work about two weeks ago but abruptly stopped working today. However, I have the Cisco VPN Client installed on my laptop and I am able to ping and RDP into my work computer from there. Both my desktop and laptop computers are connected to the same router at home. I have tried the following so far: Rebooted my computer Reinstalled VPN client Updated NIC drivers Disabled firewall Opened up ports 500, 4500, and 10000 Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  I got several computers connected to my home wireless network and I want to make use of some of the features of Windows 7 for home networks but I can't seem to get them working: How do I keep files and folders in sync between specific computers? I'm not talking about Live Sync. How can I stream to Windows Media Player from another computer? I would appreciate if someone could provide me some links / solutions that address my needs. Thanks! To anyone who thinks this question is a duplicate and wants to close it please bare in mind the following: I'm not looking for additional software, I know I can use Live Sync, Dropbox and so on but I'm asking this: how do I configure Windows 7 to sync files between my home network - no Internet required!
