• How to Backup and Transfer Opera Settings, Profiles, and Browsing Sessions

  We’ve previously shown you how to backup Firefox profiles using an extension and third-party software and how to backup Google Chrome profiles. If you use Opera, there is a free tool that makes it easy to backup Opera profiles, settings, and even browsing sessions. Opera offers a sync service, called Opera Link, which allows you to sync your bookmarks, personal bar, history, Speed Dial, notes, and search engines with other computers. However, this service does not sync your current browsing sessions and passwords. We found a free tool, called Stu’s Opera Settings Import & Export tool, that allows you to export all your Opera settings, profiles, and browsing sessions to an archive and import it into Opera on the same or another computer. Stu’s Opera Settings Import & Export tool is portable and does not need to be installed. Simply download the .zip file using the link at the end of this article. • No-Weld Multi-Monitor Stand Crafted From Sturdy Metal Framing

  As far as DIY stands for multiple monitors go, this design has to be the sturdiest and least difficult to construct model we’ve seen in some time. Read on to see how one DIYer cleverly crafted a solid metal triple monitor stand with no welding involved. Tinker and gamer Opteced wanted a new stand for his Eyefinity setup but wasn’t in a hurry to spend a pile of cash on a custom stand. His DIY solution is just as sturdy as a commercial metal stand but is made out of inexpensive hardware store parts–the main supports and base are made from Unistrut, a simple metal framing material. Unlike many DIY stands made from metal rods and piping, this build doesn’t require any sort of welding or custom pipe threading. In fact, the metal struts are so over engineered for the task of holding up flat-panel monitors he was able to simply partially saw through them and bend them to the shape he wanted.   When using RadScheduler for WinForms, it will almost always need to be customized in some way. This could come in the form of custom dialogs, context menus, or even custom appointments. • Visual Studio 2008 Crashes When Adding Custom Pipeline Components to Toolbox

  I have run into this issue trying to add custom pipeline component to toolbox. The only way (I know about) to add a custom pipeline component to a customized pipeline is using the visual designer. In order to do that you have to have components on toolbox. This was a bit frustrating. Google has brought one result which was exactly what I needed. One of the comments had another link, to the similar issue, but this time with a different title: Hotfix for BizTalk 2009 and Visual Studio 2008. I followed the link, installed hotfix, and it worked. Oh, yes, you have to reboot your machine for hotfix to work completely (this is where I spent some time pulling my hair out and asking why hotfix didn’t work?!). Once this is done, you are good to go. Among other things, this hotfix deals with BizTalk project references to each other and items not being updated (like distinguished fields in schemas project not reflected in orchestrations project). Here’s the full list: * The orchestrations in the referenced BizTalk project may show compiler warnings. * The changes that are made to the referenced BizTalk project are not propagated on to the referencing project. * When you edit the orchestrations of the referenced project, XLANG errors are thrown. These errors may disappear after the orchestrations are saved and recompiled. * After you deploy the referencing project, the local copies of the referenced project’s binaries are deleted. * After you deploy the referencing project, various errors or warnings occur in Orchestration Designer.

• Install updates without breaking shell theme?

  Recently I installed a copy of Oneiric Ocelot 11.10 on my ThinkPad. Everything went fine, I installed the gnome shell and gnome-tweak-tool to customize everything. I changed the shell theme, the GTK+ theme and the icon set. After everything fit my needs perfectly, I installed some updates from the update manager (no upgrades, just small updates). I had to restart, and after I restarted, my gnome shell was broken. In tweak-tool, it showed the customized shell as the default one, and my gtk theme was broken as well (it looked like two themes "frankensteined" together...). The bad thing was - I couldn't get things back into the default settings! So the only thing left was to use the -non broken- unity shell. What can I do to stop these things from happening? (I mean...sure I could avoid the updates, but that would be kind of stupid, too.) I only have these PPAs installed: ferramroberto-gnome3-oneiric.list (and .save), playonlinux.list (and .save) And how can I fix the broken gnome-shell?

• Meta-licensing of applications

  I'm currently evaluating license management solutions for our customized and project-based applications, which are supported by a single server in the intranet of the customer. The applications use common functionality provided by the server (session handling, data synchronization, management capabilities, etc) and are installed on mobile devices. We allow our customers to run the applications on X devices and want to check on the server, whether the customer sticks to this limit (based on the sessions). We don't want licensing software to be installed on the devices itself (for example providing X serials to the customer) nor do we want to host an additional server for licensing in the intranet of the customer. If a client connects, our server should load the license for the application running on the client and verify, that there are sessions left. The licensing managers I looked at (12 products so far) focus on the application itself and don't allow me to implement such a floating behavior as described above. For example, this software could easily be used to create a "Standard Edition" or a "Professional Edition" of our server software, which is not our intention. In XHEO DeployLX there is a "Session Limit", which allows to limit the license to the currently established sessions in ASP.NET, which comes very close to my needs. I'm currently thinking of implementing a custom solution, which allows me to load and enforce custom-defined licenses per application on the server-side and a simple editor to define such licenses (which would contain a type and the limit itself), but I would appreciate an existing, easy to integrate commercial solution. I think it could be possible to use DeployLX for this task, but I would spend a lot of money for implementing most of the solution myself (except for the editor). • Wire Framing WP7 Apps With Cacoo

  While looking for a free alternative to Sketchflow I landed on the Cacoo web site.  Any developer who decides to use the free Visual Studio tools may find themselves doing the same search.  The base functionality of Cacoo is free although there are certain features that have fees attached to them such as extended stencils and templates. Cacoo doesn’t seem to have a template for WP7.  It does have templates for iOS and Android development so I started with the Android template and started modidfying it for WP7.  Funny thing is since Android has the same hardware vendors as Windows Phone the basic frame looks just right (I would swear I was looking at my Samsung Focus). Below is the start of a new mockup for the user group that I help run. I found that while Cacoo doesn’t have all the icons I need I am able to insert them from the Windows Phone Toolkit folder.  If I put them off to the side as you can see above.  I can simply copy and paste them into the appropriate place as needed.  Beyond that I have customized the main frame frame so I can have my base to work from.  In the future I intend to create this as a stencil and if it looks good enough I would consider making it public. So I: Installed Ubuntu 11.04 desktop x86 on a VMWare virtual machine, Installed eclipse-cdt and linux-headers-2.6.38-8 using Synaptic Package Manager, Created a C Project named TestDriver1 and copy-pasted above code to it, Changed the default build command, make, to the following customized build command: make -C /lib/modules/2.6.38-8-generic/build M=/home/isaac/workspace/TestDriver1 The problem I get an error when I try to build this project using eclipse. Here is the log for the build: **** Build of configuration Debug for project TestDriver1 **** make -C /lib/modules/2.6.38-8-generic/build M=/home/isaac/workspace/TestDriver1 all make: Entering directory '/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.38-8-generic' make: *** No rule to make target vmlinux', needed byall'. Stop. make: Leaving directory '/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.38-8-generic' Interestingly, I get no error when I use shell instead of eclipse to build this project. To use shell, I just create a Makefile containing obj-m += TestDriver1.o and use the above make command to build. So, something must be wrong with the eclipse Makefile. Maybe it is looking for the vmlinux architecture (?) or something while current architecture is x86. Maybe it's because of VMWare? As I understood, eclipse creates the makefiles automatically and modifying it manually would cause errors in the future OR make managing makefile difficult. So, how can I compile this project on eclipse?

• Upload to PPA succeeded but packages doesn't appear

  I'm trying to upload packages to my PPA for the first time. I want to use the PPA for customized versions of the OpenStack Compute (nova) project, so I tried to do a test by uploading packages corresponding to the bexar release of this project (lp:nova/bexar), with a new version number and changelog entry. I signed the source packages using my OpenGPG key, which has been uploaded to the ubuntu keyserver: $ dch -v 2011.1-0ubuntu2-isi1 -D lucid "ISI bexar build #1" $ dpkg-buildpackage -s -rfakeroot -tc -D -k4C8A14AB When I tried to upload the files to the repository, it seemed to work (real email obscured): $ dput ppa:lorinh/ppa nova_2011.2~bzr663-1isi1_source.changes Checking signature on .changes gpg: Signature made Fri 11 Feb 2011 03:52:50 PM EST using RSA key ID 4C8A14AB gpg: Good signature from "Lorin Hochstein <lorin@...>" Good signature on /home/lorin/packaging/nova_2011.2~bzr663-1isi1_source.changes. How do I track down what wrong? As of this writing, it's been a day and a half since I've done the upload.

On Inernet if you search you will lots of article about Customization of List Forms using SharePoint Desinger, but the disadvantage of SharePoint Desinger is, you cannot create wsp of the customization means what ever changes you have done in UAT environment you need to repeat the same at Production. This is the main reason I donot like SharePoint Desinger more. I always prefer to create WSP file and Deployment of WSP file will do all of my work. Now, If you want to change the ListForm URL using Visual Studio, either you have create new List Defintion or Create New Content Type. • Knowledge Transfer without a Plan

  Hello...We are doing work for a particular client managing their CRM implementation. (The CRM itself is a product which has been largely customized to suit my client's needs). Now, they want us to manage the Oracle batch jobs/ETL as well. And for this, they are ready to provide us with Knowledge Transfer. (The Oracle batch jobs/ETL is managed in-house by the client now). After much persuasion, I got one of the Project Lead (designation-wise) to email the client asking for a KT Plan. (The Project Lead kept saying that they have never had KT plans before and all that for which I offered I will draft a template and even that was rejected!). Email from us to them - Can you please share with us the KT Plan? Response from them - Not sure what is expected from my side? The KT is planned for tomorrow from 11 am onwards where Functional knowledge of existing ETL Data migration package will be shared. How do you handle such a client? Most likely what is going to happen is this. The person who is giving the KT will say that I have given complete Knowledge Transfer and we will go back and say that "No, this was not covered. For this, they provided an overview alone and left it at that!" and so on... My Project Lead also did not respond to that email. He just said that the meeting is scheduled to happen at 11 AM (basically repeating whatever the email said and left for the day!). What could I possibly do? PS: Look for another job is a very helpful answer, but I am not looking for it. :-)
