Hp has only Vista drivers and no Windows 7 drivers yet : link and link The main issues after installing Windows 7 is that the graphics card (Nvidia GeForce Go 6150) and the coprocessor are not detected.The latest 191.07 GeForce/ION Driver installer says that it cannot find any compatible hardware by the way, i still haven't been able to get Xp running on this . The Nvidia GeForce Go 6150 driver seems to be customized by HP !! If you install the laptopvideo2go.com/ drivers on Xp(after MS nags that it can't verify the publisher of the driver) , it shows the blue screen of death. Is there a way to debug the BSOD ?

• Trying to make a custom Arch-based Linux distro with larch

  I'm all set up with a spiffy Arch installation in a virtual machine, and now I want to turn it into a live ISO. When I heard about larch, I thought it would be the perfect tool to turn my existing installation into something I could distribute. However, I can't get larch to install properly. I followed the installation instructions on the website, which said to download and run the larch-setup script. When I run it, though, it installs the larch profiles and libraries but doesn't install the executable programs. Here's a screenshot of the errors I get when larch-setup tries to install the executables. I'd greatly appreciate any clues to what is going wrong here, or suggestions for alternative ways to turn my customized Arch installation into an ISO! Thanks!

• Easiest linux distro creation

  Hello everyone! I have been trying to create my own customized distro of linux (preferably some kind of Debian system like Debian, Ubuntu, Knoppix, etc). I want to make it specifically for playing games. This is just a pet project for me and while I know linux pretty well (bash, gcc, g++, gdb, etc), I'm not that great with knowing the kernel. So that puts making my own distro from scratch out of the question. I went on to trying to create remasters of Knoppix and it worked for me but it was a very long process since knoppix is meant to be a live CD and I was running it in VirtualBox. So what is the easiest and fastest method of making your own distro? Also, can I install ubuntu or some kind of linux to a computer make changes to it, and then make a distro off of that installation? Please help me with this, Thanks

(These are convenient) -ubuntu live cd has the wi-fi drivers, but also has a lot of stuff I don't need -I'd like a way to save some basic config settings (e.g. wifi SSID and passphrase), so that wifi works upon startup, i.e. without having to re-enter the settings. • Refurbished System Windows License Key and OEM Media

  According to this question, it is legal to use a Windows 7 OEM license that is presently installed as a 32-bit install with a 64-bit version of Windows 7. With that in mind, I purchased several refurbished systems through TigerDirect. When I received the computers today, I found that they have a Windows 7 license key attached to them that says it is a "refurbished key." A flyer in the box also seemed to imply that this key would not work with regular OEM media. Has anyone tried using regular OEM media with a refurbished key? I had hoped to create a new 64-bit WIM image that I could use on these systems, but I don't want to try replacing the default install with this new 64-bit install only to find that the key won't validate. If it requires a special customized image, is it possible to convert another type of Windows 7 disc into the required sort much as one can convert a retail disc to an OEM one (and vise versa)?

  I am newbie with Apache's mod_rewrite and I'm having some difficulties getting it to do what I want. In my static directory, I have some javascript files (.js) with 2 kind of filename: xxxx.js which is the standard file name AT_xxxx.js (with prefixed filename) which has been duplicated from previous standard file name but also contains my customizations I would like to parse requests for each standard requested javascript file (xxxx.js) to check if a customized file exists (AT_xxxx.js) including all sub-directories. Then, in this case, use the custom file instead of the standard file (perhaps by internal redirect). I tried to figure this out for hours but something is still wrong. Note: Also, I don't know how to find custom files in sub-directories. • Invalid BOOT.INI (dual boot XP with 7)

  I had Windows XP x64 as my main system, and i also had a second partition with Windows XP x64. Both booted from first partition (C:) I then installed Windows 7 Ultimate on the first partition. I've added NTLDR using BCDRDIT. I've also copied NTLDR, NTDETECT.COM and BOOT.INI onto the drive where XP remained. However then i try to boot into Windows XP x64 i get Invalid BOOT.INI file Booting from c:\windows\ NTDETECT failed I found instructions on how to fix it using a boot disk, however the partitions are on a software RAID. I've tried to boot from a customized XP CD with the drivers, however it does not offer me a Repair option for some reason - just setup. • Lost left/right cursor keys in VIM insert mode?

  When I edit .sql file in VIM, I can't use left/right cursor keys while in insert mode. In normal mode they work just fine. In another file types - they work fine as well. in ~/.vim/ftplugin/sql.vim there is bunch of "iab"s, but not much more. I found out that when running vim with standard vimrc, not-customized, the problem is not existing. What could be wrong? Is there any option that could have been set, that disables some (up and down work) cursor keys in insert mode ?!

• What options are there for generating custom text snippets on the Mac?

  As I am getting more heavily into programming as a job and no longer as a hobby, I am definitely in need of some ways to improve my productivity. One thing that would definitely help in that respect is being able to create customized keyboard shortcuts for text/code snippets. For instance, holding down CMD+L+O+R+E+M will output a paragraph or two of the Lorem ipsum filler text, or CMD+F+U creates a function declaration. What I am ideally looking for is a database where I can store formatted text snippets, bind them to my choice of keystrokes, and then have the text paste whenever I perform the associated keystrokes. Are there any stand-alone applications that can do this for a Mac. Also, are there any text editors / IDEs that have this ability built in?

• Change user login in Windows 7 (after a misprint in username)

  I have an install of Windows 7 that I've already put a few days into. Today I realized I've made a mistake in the username and it's driving me nuts (my personal OCD). While changing the physical folder name is perhaps possible, though quite involved, I do not want to open that can of worms. What I want to do is simply change the username I give when the login prompt shows up. I thought it's possible by just renaming the user account in the User Accounts but that didn't work. Is it possible to do then? Or is the only way to create another user and spend hour migrating everything I'd already customized to that user?

• CentOS Live CD Creation issues

  I am creating my customized CentOS 6.3 Live CD. I am following information given at https://projects.centos.org/trac/livecd/wiki/GetToolset My "livecd-creator" command completes successfully and an ISO image is created. But when I try to boot up my system with this ISO, it goes up to the CentOS blue screen and then the CAPS lock and Scroll Lock LEDs on the keyboard starts flashing. Then from here after, the system takes no input from keyboard and I have to power cycle it and it does the same thing. Could you get me any suggestion why this is causing and possible workaround. • Migrating Printers from XP to 7 (using USMT 4.0)

  I'm attempting to migrate a user from an XP machine to a 7 machine, using USMT 4.0 (User State Migration Tool, from Microsoft). For some reason the migration of printers isn't working, and none of the topics at Microsoft's TechNet are helping me out.   I was wondering if it was possible to make a bootlable image of a Windows 7 Pro OEM Installation CD that I have and put it on an USB stick for faster/easier installation. I am asking because we have a couple of PC´s where I´d have to install the OS using the same key (MAK). Also is it possible to kind of populate that image with software that would have to be installed anyways on all machines (like Chrome, Outlook, etc)? It would be really helpful to just install a Windows 7 image with customized software already installed. I would just make an image of an OS and use that, but the hardware of the machines differ.

• High-res icon in Windows Vista alt-tab thumbnail preview?

However, Windows doesn't load the high-res icons from the programs; instead, it uses the 16x16 pixel icon and scaled it up by nearest-neighbor. I'm sure the programs has high-res icons because I saw them with in "Extra Large Icon" view in Explorer. So the question is: How can I force Windows to load the high-res icons for the alt-tab thumbnail preview? (Perhaps a registry key, or a .dll hack/injection?)

  Is there a way to add a custom favicon to an App Tab? In the above thread, @admintech links to a great plugin for changing favicons which covers both the bookmarks folder and the address bar/tab bar icons. However, it still does not quite fully address what I was hoping to accomplish. I'd like to set an App Tab that has a customized icon, that stays the same in that tab no matter what I do there. Since the navigation within an App Tab is very restricted, the chosen favicon should always be relevant to whatever page is loaded in that tab. The Bookmark Favicon Changer has been effective in allowing me to use a custom favicon in the App Tab. But, the favicon only applies to the specific URL that was bookmarked. Any navigation done from that page will return the favicon to blank. Is there another plugin, or perhaps some special tweak to this plugin or the bookmark itself, that will allow me to make the favicon more persistent across the site?

• Tools for analyzing performance of SQL Server/Express?

  The application that I have customized and continue to support for my client is seeing dramatic performance problems in the field. Simple queries on rather small datasets take over a minute when I would expect them to complete with sub-second times. My current theory is that SQL Server Express 2005 is too limited for the rather non-trivial demands being made of it, but I am not sure how to get about gathering data that I can use to either prove my point or allow me to move on to finding another cause. Can anyone point me toward some tools that would allow me to analyze the load on this database? Information such as simultaneous connections, execution times of individual queries, memory usage, heck just any profiling data at all would be a help. Many thanks.

  I'm trying to build a customized version of a nginx package for Debian/Ubuntu which had a different set of modules opposed to the default version. What would be the fastest way to modify the debian/ structure (and which files) if I'd want to rename the package from 'nginx' to 'my-nginx' for example? I've got the source deb package unpacked and which files I'd need to modify in nginx-1.4.5/debian/ directory (holding the control, rules.. files) have buildpackage generate my-nginx-1.4.5.deb package instead of nginx-1.4.6.deb package. I appreciate your help!
