  • How to work around blocked outbound hkp port for apt keys

    I'm using Ubuntu 9.10, and need to add some apt repositories. Unfortunately, I get messages like this when running sudo apt-get update: W: GPG error: http://ppa.launchpad.net karmic Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 5A9BF3BB4E5E17B5 W: GPG error: http://ppa.launchpad.net karmic Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 1DABDBB4CEC06767 So, I need to install the keys for these repositories. Under 9.10 we now have the option to do this: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nvidia-vdpau/ppa See this Ubuntu help article for details. This is great, except that I'm running this on a workstation behind a firewall which blocks outbound connections to pretty much all ports except those required by secretaries running Windows and IE. The port in question here is the hkp service, port 11371. There appear to be ways to manually download keys and install them on apt's keyring. There may even be a way to use add-apt-repository or wget or something to download a key from an alternative server making it available on port 80. However, I haven't yet found a concise set of steps for doing so. What I'm looking for is: How to find a public key for an apt-package (recommendations for resources which have these, and/or tips for searching. Searching for the key hash doesn't seem all that effective so far.) How to retrieve a key (can it be done automatically using gpg or add-apt-repository?) How to add a key to apt's keyring Thanks in advance.

  • Reliable custom Windows shortcut keys?

    I have global Windows shortcut keys assigned to several different cmd.exe instances. I do this by creating shortcuts to cmd.exe on my desktop, and assigning each one a unique shortcut key (for example, CTRL + SHIFT + U). Pretty basic stuff. I'm using Win2K8 (R1 and R2). This works just fine... most of the time. But with infuriating regularity, sometimes it doesn't. Or it will work with a long delay (many seconds). It doesn't matter what app currently has focus (it can even be one of the command prompts). It doesn't matter what keys I assign (I've tried a few variations of WIN, CTRL and SHIFT). I did notice that this is often, but not always, correlated with explorer.exe struggling in some way or another (say, an explorer window opened to a file share that's unavailable, or an app being unresponsive, or whatever). In other words the shortcut key handling appears to be very sensitive to unrelated system activity. Note that whenever I have this problem I can always successfully ALT + TAB to the window I want to get to, but that's tedious. I use the shortcuts to these command windows hundreds of times a day so even a 1% failure rate becomes really annoying. Is there a way to fix this, or is there some third-party utility out there that will RELIABLY intercept custom key combinations to bring focus to whatever apps I want, in a way that is independent of other system activity? ADDENDUM: There is a property of the Windows shortcuts that I would not want to lose if switching to a third-party hotkey tool: Windows shortcuts are idempotent. Once you've launched a shortcut to some app, pressing the shortcut key combo again takes you to the already launched process - it does not launch a new process.

  • Synergy: Cannot send media keys from Linux to Mac

    I have a Linux Synergy server (Si-Linux) serving just one Mac client (Macbook Pro UK) (SiBook-Pro.local). On my Linux server I am using a USB Apple keyboard with the exact layout of the laptops keyboard (the compact UK aluminium keyboard). I don't understand since it is the same key as is on the Macbook's keyboard. I tried to reverse the client-server config to see if I could capture the key being sent if I pressed the Play button on the Macbook but the key doesn't seem to even make it to Synergy. Almost all keyboard presses get logged but the media keys seem to bypass the logs and just execute their function locally. E.g. I press play on the Macbook (with the Macbook as the server) and the key plays music on the Macbook and the key is not logged to the debug log.

    I am setting up a continuos integration(CI) server and a test web server. I would like that CI server would access web server with public key authentication. Enter file in which to save the key (/var/www/user/.ssh/id_rsa): Created directory '/var/www/user/.ssh'. Your public key has been saved in /var/www/user/.ssh/id_rsa.pub. However othe side, CI server copies the key to the host but still asks password ssh-copy-id -i ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub user@webserver-address user@webserver-address's password: Now try logging into the machine, with "ssh 'user@webserver-address'", and check in: .ssh/authorized_keys to make sure we haven't added extra keys that you weren't expecting. I checked on the web server and the CI server public key has been copied to web server authorized_keys but when I connect, It asks password. ssh 'user@webserver-address' user@webserver-address's password: If I try use root user rather than my created user (both users are with copied public keys).   • Super+digit takes precedence over Ctrl+Super+digit

    I use Ctrl+Super+digit` to switch workspace. I also use Super+digit to start programs that are pinned to the bar (unity default). The problem is that when I try to switch workspace, if I happen to press Super before Ctrl, Super+digit is executed as if Ctrl was never pressed although it is. How do I make sure that Ctrl+Super+digit is recognized as such, whatever the order in which Ctrl and Super were pressed?

    I've got a single massive monitor at home, and I've decided to mimic the Windows 7 window tiling shortcuts. I found a few guides online using wmctrl, and it's going well, save one thing: maximized windows don't respond to it. gconftool-2 --type string --set /apps/metacity/keybinding_commands/command_1 "wmctrl -r :ACTIVE: -e 0, 0,0, `xwininfo -root | grep Width | awk '{ print ($2/2)}'`, `xwininfo -root | grep Height | awk '{ print $2 }'`" (I've added line returns to make an otherwise massive one-liner readable.) I've bound this to a hotkey and it works, unless the window is maximized. Any ideas on how to fix this up?

  • Ctrl + C doesn't abort programs in terminal

    I changed the keyboard shortcut in terminal so that Ctrl + C would copy text. I realized I can't abort a program I am running since Ctrl + C used to be the abort command. I know that Ctrl + Shift + C works but want it switched back. Is there a way to revert the keyboard shortcuts to the real defaults before I decided to mess with it? What is the abort command defined as in keyboard shortcuts? Not a big program if I can't but it would be nice to know.

And for developers, updates will be delivered as needed to continue to deliver a great developer experience for GlassFish Server Open Source Edition so GlassFish is not about to go away soon. In a similar fashion RedHat do not provide commercial support for WildFly and only provide commercial support for JBoss EAP. Admittedly JBoss EAP and WildFly are much closer together than GlassFish and WebLogic but WildFly and JBoss EAP are absolutely NOT the same thing. The key going forward to the viability of GlassFish as a production platform is how the GlassFish community develops; How often does the community release binary builds? The current trunk is where an implementation for Java EE 8 will flourish, and this will become the future GlassFish 5.0. Calling "GlassFish is dead" does no good to the Java EE ecosystem. The GlassFish Community will remain strong towards the future of Java EE. Without revenue-focused mind, this might actually help the GlassFish community to shape the next version, and set free from any ties with commercial decisions. In parallel, I believe there's no other company in the Java EE business that offers commercial support to more than one build of a Java EE application server. This new direction can actually help customers and partners, simplifying decision through commercial negotiations. Fact #3 - WebLogic is not always more expensive than OGS Oracle GlassFish Server ("OGS") is a build of GlassFish Server Open Source Edition bundled with a set of commercial features called GlassFish Server Control and license bundles such as Java SE Support. OGS has at the moment of this writing the pricelist of U$ 5,000 / processor. One information that some bloggers are mentioning is that WebLogic is more expensive than this. Fact 3.1: it is not necessarily the case. The initial edition of WebLogic is called "Standard Edition" and falls into a policy where some “Standard Edition” products are licensed on a per socket basis. As of current pricelist, US$ 10,000 / socket. If you do the math, you will realize that WebLogic SE can actually be significantly more cost effective than OGS, and a customer can save money if running on a CPU with 4 cores or more for example. Quote from the price list: “When licensing Oracle programs with Standard Edition One or Standard Edition in the product name (with the exception of Java SE Support, Java SE Advanced, and Java SE Suite), a processor is counted equivalent to an occupied socket; however, in the case of multi-chip modules, each chip in the multi-chip module is counted as one occupied socket.” For more details speak to your Oracle sales representative - this is clearly at list price and every customer typically has a relationship with Oracle (like they do with other vendors) and different contractual details may apply. And although OGS has always been production-ready for Java EE applications, it is no secret that WebLogic has always been more enterprise, mission critical application server than OGS since BEA. Different editions of WLS provide features and upgrade irons like the WebLogic Diagnostic Framework, Work Managers, Side by Side Deployment, ADF and TopLink bundled license, Web Tier (Oracle HTTP Server) bundled licensed, Fusion Middleware stack support, Oracle DB integration features, Oracle RAC features (such as GridLink), Coherence Management capabilities, Advanced HA (Whole Service Migration and Server Migration), Java Mission Control, Flight Recorder, Oracle JDK support, etc. Fact #4 - There’s no major vendor supporting community builds of Java EE app servers There are no major vendors providing support for community builds of any Open Source application server. For example, IBM used to provide community support for builds of Apache Geronimo, not anymore. Red Hat does not commercially support builds of WildFly and if I remember correctly, never supported community builds of former JBoss AS. Oracle has never commercially supported GlassFish Server Open Source Edition builds. Tomitribe appears to be the exception to the rule, offering commercial support for Apache TomEE. Fact #5 - WebLogic and GlassFish share several Java EE implementations It has been no secret that although GlassFish and WebLogic share some JSR implementations (as stated in the The Aquarium announcement: JPA, JSF, WebSockets, CDI, Bean Validation, JAX-WS, JAXB, and WS-AT) and WebLogic understands GlassFish deployment descriptors, they are not from the same codebase. Fact #6 - WebLogic is not for GlassFish what JBoss EAP is for WildFly WebLogic is closed-source offering. It is commercialized through a license-based plus support fee model. OGS although from an Open Source code, has had the same commercial model as WebLogic. Still, one cannot compare GlassFish/WebLogic to WildFly/JBoss EAP. It is simply not the same case, since Oracle has had two different products from different codebases. The comparison should be limited to GlassFish Open Source / Oracle GlassFish Server versus WildFly / JBoss EAP.   • NX/SSH remote access with Remmina

    After many days and a lot of frustration, I managed to get freenx to work on my home server. I can connect to it with nomachine's linux client, but I want to use Remmina for this purpose. The problem is that I don't exactly know how to connect to a NX-server with the program. In the connection dialog, I've chosen SSH as the protocol, and I've correctly added the IP and port. Under "SSH Authentication" I've added my user name on the server, and I choose "identity file" and selected the ssh-key I generated (which works with nxclient). (When am I supposed to provide my password for the user on the server?) When I try to connect I get the message: SSH public key authentication failed: Public key file doesn't exist Why do I get this message? How shall I proceed correctly to get the authentication working? Thank you for your time!

    I know this should be the simplest thing, but coming up empty. ;-( I would like to create a keyboard shortcut ctrl-alt-P that opens a terminal window and runs a ping command: ping -c 4 somefixeddomain.com [Useful for quickly checking whether my internet connection is actually working.] I have attempted to do this (in Unity, Ubuntu v11.10) using: Settings > Keyboard > Custom Shortcuts filling in all the obvious stuff, but no luck. All ideas welcome.

  • Can't bind gnome-do to Super + Space or Ctrl+Alt+Space

    With today's updates to 12.04 I can no longer bind gnome-do to either ctrl+alt+space or super+space. With 11.10 it wasn't possible to use super+space, on a fresh install of 12.04 super+space was working properly. Today it stopped working, if I try to bind control+alt+space then the controlkey shows up in the keyboard binding as Primary. I am running Unity, which in the past blocked super+space, it seemed to have stopped blocking it on 12.04. It shouldn't affect ctrl+alt+space. Configuring either binding produces the following error in the gnome-do output: libdo-WARNING **: Binding 'space' failed! libdo-WARNING **: Binding 'space' failed! I'm stuck binding to shift+alt+space.

    In Ubuntu 12.10 (Gnome3) they've removed the "go to parent directory" using Backspace. I was very used to it... I've seen in source code comments that they've removed this support and there are at least 3 other ways of achieving the same. I wonder - what are other ways besides the Alt + up? Basically, I'd like to find out how to enable the Backspace key to go to the parent directory or at least know the shortcut for doing it with one hand (Alt + up is useless).

    I am using Kubuntu and I want to expand the current window to the free space on the screen or to say it more precisely: I want to make the current window as big as possible without overlapping new windows (windows already overlapped should be ignored). Is there a keyboard shortcut or an extension to the KDE Window management, that realizes such a shortcut or a window button? I would also appreciate a hint, how to write a script that could do this window thing on keyboard shortcut invocation. I am a programmer but don't know what the best way is to control KDE Windows via script.

  • Ubuntu 13.10 japanese keyboard layout intercepts Caps Lock

    I've installed Ubuntu 13.10 (clean install on new machine), there are lot of changes for configuring keyboard layouts and I've tried to configure it as I've used earlier: Englis (US), Russian and Japanese (Anthy) with switching between them with Caps Lock key. (See screenshot) Caps Lock switching works fine between Russian and English and vice-versa, but with Japanese I can switch only TO Japanese (not FROM), in Japanese layout Caps Lock starting to work as usual Caps Lock (as a switch between small and BIG letters), so I need to use mouse to switch back to Ru or En layout. This happens ONLY with Japanese layouts (I've tried also simply "Japanese" and "Japanese (Kana)"), not with Chinese, Korean or anything else. I'm not sure who is blame for that, is it ibus-anthy or anything. Please help, I want to use Caps Lock to switch between all layouts.   • Is there a keybind to minimize all windows, without a toggle?

    I know about the show desktop keybind (default Ctrl+Alt+D), which I use often enough. However, I'm looking for a way to minimize all windows without activating "show desktop". I'm on a default install (i.e Gnome, Metacity & Compiz). I've looked through all the locations to configure keybinds, that I know. I've also looked at the default keybind list in the Ubuntu wiki and in the Compiz wiki. (Not to mention, searching here.) I'm interested in knowing where it is available, if not in Gnome/Metacity/Compiz, or some other way to accomplish this with a keybind.

  • Gnome-Screenshot error in Ubuntu GNOME 13.10

    I recently installed Ubuntu GNOME 13.10 (it came with GNOME 3.8, but I replaced by GNOME 3.10) and after a few problems, the only one I couldn't solve was the screenshot problem. When I press the PrtSc key, nothing happens. No sound, no nothing. When I execute it via Terminal by writing "Gnome-Screenshot", it does work and saves in my Pictures folder. I have already tried to re-install the program, but still didn't work. I also tried to create a shortcut with this command line, but still nothing happend. I tried to replace the PrtSc key by another one, just for make sure the problem wasn't in the key, and it still failed. Can anyone help me?

  • How to get OpenSSH to use ksshaskpass under KDE?

    When using a GNOME desktop on Ubuntu, if I use OpenSSH client to connect to another computer (running from the gnome-terminal), I get a single graphic popup asking for my private key's pass-phrase. After that I no longer need to enter my pass-phrase as it is cached by the SSH agent. Under KDE it doesn't work like that - when I start ssh from konsole, I get a text prompt for my pass-phrase every single time, even though ssh-agent is running. If I run ssh-add from the terminal then I can enter my pass-phrase on the terminal and it will be stored by ssh-agent and I won't get any more pass-phrase prompts, while if I run ssh-add the KRunner graphical command line ("Run" dialog) then I get a graphical prompt with the same behavior. The problem is I have to remember running ssh-add every time I log in to the desktop. How can I get ssh to behave under KDE, the same as it does on GNOME - the first time the pass-phrase is needed, pop up a graphical dialog and store the pass-phrase in the agent. I've installed ksshaskpass, but that didn't change anything.

  • Can I change Synapse shortcut to Super/Windows key alone?

    When I'm trying to edit synapse config, it does not allow me to use Super_L as a direct shortcut for invoking it. Is there a round-about way that I can go through. When I just press the Windows/Super key, the configuration window does not acknowledge it. However, a combination shortcut (such as Super+a) do work fine. Since I'm using Precise, with unity, I'd also need a way to change the default dash behavior from Windows/Super key to something else.

  • Spread windows not working on minimized applications

    When I'm using "SUPER" + "W" to spread all running windows I only see the applications that are not minimized and the others are just nothing as seen on picture below. I have 5 applications running and 3 of them are minimized and this is how it looks: How to fix this? I don't know if this is a bug or if this is normal, but i don't like it this way UPDATE: Just found out that it actually only happens when i use "Super" + "D" to minimize all windows, and then when opening some of them up again it will happen

    Situation GNOME Shell AutoKey / autokey-gtk it has a predefined shortcut "adr" which should write an address after hitting space and a shortcut "date" which should write the current date (after hitting tab) Problem no matter what I define, "adr" or "date" it always inserts as much blank lines as the template uses Example: "date" should autocomplete after pressing space to "13/08/01" but it inserts one empty line "adr" should do my full address but it inserts 4 empty lines Question What could be wrong with my AutoKey? Do you need additional information?

  • Why did ctrl-f stop working in LibreOffice?

    I've basically settled into Unity, but one constant that is kind of giving me agita is that in LibreOffice Calc (and Writer) ctrl-f does nothing. I can go to edit > find ... and the edit menu even suggests ctrl-f as a keyboard shortcut, but actually typing it doesn't do anything. ctrl-alt-f works fine. The only thing that doesn't work is ctrl-f. I had a really hard time getting settled with Unity (mostly trying to get my old Gnome-do and Compiz settings back) so I spent a lot of time monkeying with the Compiz Settings Manager. But I can't figure out where I would have unset/ overrode this. Plus, it isn't like ctrl-f does something unexpected. It just does nothing.
