• Strange email coming from/to my computer

  I'm running smtp4dev on my machine to trap anything going in/out of my computer on port 25 for testing purposes. Every so often this email gets trapped and I have no idea what it's from. I have Microsoft Security Essentials running on my machine and it hasn't identified and viruses or anything so I'm not sure what's going on. • Changes user's email on crowd doesn't apply in confluence

  Hi It's my configuration: Atlassian Crowd Version: 2.0.2 (Build:#409 - 06-10-2009) Atlassian Confluence 3.0.2 I can't change users' emails in Confluence because I use Crowd as external user management. So I have to change users' emails in Crowd but changes doesn't apply in Confluence. Even users has access to crowd user console and can login to Crowd and view their profile and edit their email password but changed emails doesn't apply in Confluence. What should I do? Is it a bug? Also I should mention that emails contains dot character(.). I posted my question to Atlassian forum 3 days ago but there's no answer yet!

  We are hosting our website (http://www.redappleapartments.com) with a hosting company in Sweden. And we are using godaddy as our email provider. So, our smtp servers are smtp.europe.secureserver.net mailstore1.europe.secureserver.net Our website sends plenty of emails to our customers and we are sending via godaddy (using SMTP authentication). Some of the emails are never delivered to the recipients. And sometimes we see such warning: The hostname in the SMTP greeting does not match the reverse DNS (PTR) Can somebody out there suggest how we can solve this problem?

• My saved drafts become unread email in Windows Live Mail and Gmail IMAP

  I have setup windows live mail with my gmail account in IMAP mode. When I draft an email and save it. It saves in the drafts automatically. Within a minute, my WLM sound alerts new mail and shows mail icon in the system tray. However, this is for the draft I have saved which appears unread. To make the mail notification icon go away in the system tray, I go off and mark the draft as read. This repetition is tedious and distracting. How can I avoid this annoyance? thanks

  My mac laptop died. The hard drive is good. I am able to pull what I need off my mac and copy it to windows using an open source tool (I forgot the name of it). I need my old mac emails. I was using the macintosh thunderbird for emails. How do I load those emails into thunderbird, outlook, or any other windows email tool? I did google this and there were some brief explanations, but they did not work. The vast majority of posts are about going from windows to mac.

• Postfix - Block email from non-existent local addresses

  My question is very similar to this one, but for postfix. We keep getting emails from addresses like "[email protected]" delivered to other "@ourdomain.com" addresses. From my google research, I understand it might not be practical to verify the email originated from our IP or VPN (Although this would be ideal, so if you can think of a way to do this, let me know), but in most of these cases the sender address (ex. "accounting") is not a valid account. I imagine there must be a way to make sure that a local account exists before delivering the message.

We would like to continue to host email for the 3 on GoDaddy, while using Google Apps for the 5. When we insert the MX records in GoDaddy, the 3 no longer could send/receive email, since we were redirecting email to Google.   I'm writing a school administration software package, but it strikes me that many developers will face this same issue: when communicating with users, should you use email or SMS or both, and should you treat them as fundamentally equivalent channels such that any message can get sent using any media, (with long and short forms of the message template obviously) or should different business functions be specifically tailored to each of the 3? This question got kicked off "StackOverflow" for being overly general, so I'm hoping it's not too general for this site - the answers will no doubt be subjective but "you don't need to write a whole book to answer the question". I'm particularly interested in people who have direct experience of having written comparable business applications. Sub-questions: Do I treat SMS as "moderately secure" and email as less secure? (I'm thinking about booking tokens for parent/teacher nights, permission slips for excursions, absence explanation notes - so high security is not a requirement for us, although medium security is) Is it annoying for users to receive the same message on multiple channels? Should we have a unified framework that reports on delivery or lack thereof of emails and SMS's?

(because the address or sender IP is blacklisted, not because of content) There is a server which is able to forward incoming messages to another address (email forwarding), for example, to a Gmail mailbox. And it is not blacklisted. The question is: If we send a message, through the dirty mailbox to the server, and server forward it to a Gmail mailbox, will it marked as spam by spam filters?

  I want to set up 4-5 email addresses on my newly purchased domain(from namecheap.com), for team size of just 2-3 people. But I really don't want to maintain my own mail server(don't have the experience as well as want to avoid the expenses involved, may be I could have kept the mail server alongside my webapp on the web server, but I would avoid). So I came across a workaround option to forward the emails. Thus I could setup email forwarding from namecheap's management console to my free gmail accounts. So all my emails would come to gmail account, convenient & familiar interface as well free. Are there any serious drawbacks of this approach ?

  At $work, the official email solution is Outlook on Windows, connected to an Exchange server. That's problematic for people with Linux on their desktop machine. The Exchange server supports IMAP, and e-mail works fairly well using the usual suspects, e.g. Thunderbird. It also provides the web mail interface, which is fairly crap unless you use IE. (Any other favorite e-mail clients?) The biggest problem is the Outlook Calendar. I still have found no viable Linux client that can replace it. Any recommendations?

Now I am setting up virtual users for dovecot. But however, I also notice I can setup users in sendmail itself. Why is it so that you can setup users in 2 different places. Other mail server will send to the user in sendmail or dovecot?

In reference to the answer of this question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1179854/limitations-on-sms-messages-sent-using-free-email-sms-gateways is there any websites or other resources that list the format that is delivered for each carrier. ATT for example delivers the SMS with some added formatting that is not present with T-Mobile. I realize this is not a coding question, but since I can only see this question arising for someone that is creating email to SMS specific applications, it seems relevant to SO.

I use CI's email class from the controller to do mail out, but I discovered that if I use the "mail" protocol, some (not all) users see un-rendered html emails with the html mark up viewable, while others do not. But if I use the "sendmail" protocol, all users get rendered html emails.   Hi everyone, I would like to implement asynchronous email sending in my web application when users register for a new account. This is so that if there is a problem or delay in sending the email message (e.g. the mail server is down or the network connection to the mail server is slow) the user won't be kept waiting for the sending to complete. My web app is built using Spring and Hibernate's implementation of JPA. What would be the best and most reliable way for me to implement asynchronous email processing in this web application? I am thinking about persisting the email information in a database table which is then regularly polled by a Quartz (http://www.opensymphony.com/quartz/) scheduled job for updates and when it finds new unsent emails, it attempts to send them. Is this a reasonable way of implementing what I want? Thanks.

• Bounce Email handling with PHP??

  I am really new to this (not new to php). Here is my scenario: I have 2 emails accounts. [email protected] and [email protected]. I want to send email to all my users with [email protected] but then "reply to" [email protected] (until here, my php script can handle it). When, the email cant be sent, it sent to [email protected], the error message could be 553 (non existent email ...) etc. My question is: How do I direct all those bounce emails (couldn't sent emails) to [email protected] through a handling script to check for the bounce error codes? What programming language should I be for the "handling script"? What would the "handling script" looks like? Can give a sample? OR:(Big Question) What are the procedures I should follow to handle the bounce email ??
