  • Memory Management/Embedded Management in C

    Im wondering if there is a set or a few good books/Tutorials/Etc.. that go into Memory Management/Allocation Specifically (or at least have a good dedicated section to it) when it comes to C. This is more for me learning Embedded and trying to keep Size down. I've read and Learned C fine, and the "standard" Learning books. However most of the books don't spend a huge amount of time (Understandably since C is pretty huge in general) going into the Finer details about whats going on Down Under.     There are a number of popular web font services on the market today who "host" the fonts and serve them to your web page via javascript or CSS pointing to remote locations. For example http://webfonts.fonts.com or http://typekit.com However, there seems to be an issue when you're developing on a local testing server - the remote font services don't validate the font and return 403 access denied errors and the like. What workarounds are there for using remote services such as a hosted font service, on a local development server?

  • MTD mtd3ro backup returns BCH decoding failed

    While doing a kernel backup of an mtd (Memory Technology Device) from /dev/mtd/mtd3ro of a TI board gives many "BCH decoding failed", Here are system info #cat /proc/mtd dev: size erasesize name mtd0: 00080000 00020000 "X-Loader" mtd1: 00140000 00020000 "U-Boot" mtd2: 000c0000 00020000 "U-Boot Env" mtd3: 00500000 00020000 "Kernel" mtd4: 1f880000 00020000 "File System" here is the method used, dd if=/dev/mtd/mtd3ro of=/data/local/tmp/mtd3.bin doing a cat also returns the same error, and here is the error, BCH decoding failed BCH decoding failed yes, the destination has enough space ;) tell me what do you think? Requirements for browser are - Touch Screen Support, Panning ( No Scroll bars) - Single touch Zooming ( No Multi Touch Available). - Fit to screen width support ( No Horizontal Scrolling). - Acid 3 Standard Compliable. - Page loading should be like, display all visible text first and then load and show Images Gradually.   • Font display issue (Mac OS X)?

    I used a font manager on Mac OS X, for additional fonts in my graphic design projects without installing them to the fonts folder (I think that's how it works) - using Font Book and Font Explorer X Version 1.2.3 on OS X 10.6. Most fonts work fine, but Interstate has a problem: Interstate Regular is installed, but for some reason it's probably not seeing it; it's seeing all the Bold and Condensed versions fine. In the above image, it displays the second font as Interstate Regular, but it isn't that font... why? Also, how do I reset the system fonts folder back to the default-installed fonts (I think it's in the library folder) if worst comes to worst, and is using a font manager on Mac or Windows a good idea? I don't want to wreck my system, fairly new to using Mac, especially OS X, so any help would be gratefully accepted.

    I need a copy of the Myriad-Roman font that is the default font for Adobe Illustrator. I have Illustrator installed but I need to put the font on my sever so my PDF DLL can read the font since my PDF is using that Myriad-Roman font. Please don't get distracted about the PDF part - I just need to know how to find the font wherever Adobe installs it when I install Illustrator (CS5). TIA!

  • How do I find out from which fonts windows is pulling substitute glyphs?

    When a given font does not provide a glyph for a unicode character, windows pulls glyphs from a font which does provide it (see screenshot showing charmap and text editor displaying glyphs missing from calluna; the missing glyphs are (not) shown in the pdf visible in the same document. Fontforge also reveals that the glyphs are indeed not in that font). How can I work out from which font windows is pulling the substitute glyph? (I'm using windows 7)

    Hi, I want to install DisplayLink on an embedded Windows XP device. The problem is that the setup starts and asked for my approval and after I confirmed it nothing happend. The setup just dissapear. On the official DisplayLink site there they say that they dont support embedded system but there must be a way to get this working on it. So I am searching for a tool to see what the setup is trying to open or what the preerequisite of it are to install it and try to get this working. Thanks for you help

  • Oracle Java Embedded Client 1.1 Released

    Yesterday an update release of Oracle Java Embedded Client (OJEC) 1.1 quietly slipped out door for general availability. Until last year it was pretty difficult to get your hands on either a Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) for small devices or a Connected Device Configuration (CDC) for medium devices java implementation without a substantial initial commitment. But with the the release of OJWC (CLDC) and OJEC (CDC) last year that has changed. OJEC 1.1 is a binary distribution designed for installation on medium configurations which is a mid range processor requiring a  slow startup time, seamless upgrades, in a cost sensitive hardware environment  anywhere from 3.5mb to 8 mb. There are headless as well as headed versions available. It is intended for devices, such as Blu-­-ray Disc players, set-­-top boxes, residential gateways,VOIP phones, and similar. From a software point of view, OJEC is the Java runtime platform implementation of Connected Device Configuration (CDC v1.1, JSR-­-218), Foundation Profile (FP v1.1, JSR-­-219), and Personal Basis Profile (PBP v1.1, JSR-­-217)  and includes optional packages RMI (JSR 66), JDBC (JSR 169) and XML API for Java ME (JSR 280), and Java TV (JSR-­-927). New to this release is support for the XML API (JSR 280) and a number of bug fixes and performance enhancements, including an improved Just-in-Time (JIT) compilation for the x86 chipset architecture. The platforms supported include ArmV5, ArmV6/ArmV7, MIPS 32 74K, and X86 in headless mode. For embedded developers there are number of advantages to using Java and if you have shied away from the JavaME edition in the past I would encourage you to look into the updated version of OJEC 1.1.

    Here's a prototype for some kind of backoffice content management system. Several interesting goodies are included, such as an embedded JavaScript editor, as can be seen in the screenshot: Key items of interest in the above are as follows: Embedded JavaScript editor (i.e., the latest and greatest Nashorn technology, look it up, if you're not aware of what that is.) The way that's done is to include the relevant JavaScript modules in your NetBeans Platform application. Make very sure to include "Lexer to NetBeans Bridge", which does a bunch of critical stuff under the hood. The JEditorPane is defined as follows, along the lines that I blogged about recently thanks to Steven Yi: javaScriptPane.setContentType("text/javascript"); EditorKit kit = CloneableEditorSupport.getEditorKit("text/javascript"); javaScriptPane.setEditorKit(kit); javaScriptPane.getDocument().putProperty("mimeType", "text/javascript"); Note that "javaScriptPane" above is simply a JEditorPane. Timon Veenstra's excellent solution for integrating Nodes with MultiViewElements, which is described here by Timon, and nowhere else in the world. The tab you see above is within a pluggable container, so anyone else could create a new module and register their own MultiViewElement such that it will be incorporated into the editor.   • Named my RPi 512MB @jerpi_bilbo

    To keep our multiple Raspberry Pi boards apart from each other, I've now named my RPi Model B w/512MB: "jerpi_bilbo", which stands for Java Embedded Raspberry Pi - Bilbo (named after the Hobbit from the J.R.R. Tolkien stories). I also, set up a Twitter account for him. You can follow him at: @jerpi_bilbo He's self-tweeting, manual prompted so far (using Java Embedded 7.0 and twitter4j Java library). Works great! I'm setting him up to be automated self-tweeting soon, so watch for that... Here's a pointer to the open source twitter4j Java library: download here Just unzip and extract out the twitter4j-core-2.2.6.jar and put it on your Java Embedded classpath.   • @font-face fonts only work on their own domain

    I am trying to create a type of font repository for use on my websites, so that I can call to any font in the repository in my css without any other set-up. To do this I created a subdomain on which I placed folders for each font in the repository that contained the various file types for each font. I also placed a css file called font-face.css on the root of the subdomain and filled it with @font-face declarations for each of the fonts, the fonts a linked with an absolute link so that they can be used from anywhere. My issue is that it seems that I can only use the fonts on that subdomain where they are located, on my other sites the font does not show. Using firebug I determined that the font-face.css file was successfully being linked to and loaded. So why does the font not correctly load? Is there protection on the font files or something? I am using all fonts that I should be allowed to do this with, so I don't see why this is occurring. Maybe it is an apache issue, but I can download the font just fine when I link to it. Oh, and just to clarify, I am not violating any copyrights by setting this up, all the fonts I am using are licensed to allow this sort of thing. I would however like to set up a way that only I can have access to this repository of fonts but that's another project.

  • How can I prevent text displacement for some foreign language fonts?

    I have a multilingual project (currently 13 languages), which uses many different font variations of "Helvetica Neue", mostly bold, condensed and regular cuts from the LinoType Pro font set ( which includes western european characters) and the same for cyrillic. We will probably add chinese and japanese variations in the future. I have set up the project to use different CSS stylesheets and separately load the fonts for each version, depending on which language the user selects, so I can have different line heights, kerning and/or font sizes to make everything keep the original look, even if the fonts look nothing alike. All of this works well, except for one problem: For some reason, all cyrillic letters seem to be displaced. They appear 2-3 pixels below the correct base line, and actually protrude across the textfield's bottom border, even when the field is set to autosize. When I use textfield.getCharBoundaries(), all values seem to be correct, even though they obviously aren't rendered correctly. To make everything look neat, I could of course manually move all problematic textfields up or down according to language and font size, but I was wondering if there was some way to prevent or at least detect this kind of displacement in order to automatically handle the adjustments - the Flash Player should have some sort of information on how things are rendered, shouldn't it? Have any of you had similar problems? Or better yet: a solution?

    When designing a website to be accessed from an embedded webserver such as KLone, what do you need to do differently compared to a 'standard' web server. I'm talking about considerations at the front end design stage, before the actual building and coding up. For example, typically in such situations, memory size is a premium, so I guess larger images are out, and maybe more attention should be focused on achieving a good look and feel using CSS/Javascript rather than bitmap images.

Model: answers ... My question is, with the example I gave, should I start at the top model (textbook) or the bottom most (answers)?
