  • iPhone - How do you make a resizable rectangle for cropping images?

    Hi everyone, I'm having a trouble making a re-sizable rectangle for cropping my images. I'm trying to achieve something like this picture: http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/8930/customcropbox.jpg Well, the only problem is I have no clue where to actually start. I need some advice to how I can achieve this effect of cropping. What documentation should I read up on? Core Graphics or Quartz 2d? Both? I've been coding for the iPhone since it's release date but I've never actually used core graphics and etc. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. I'll throw my code up here as I progress to show how it's done when I achieve it. :-) Also, this rectangular box is moveable across the screen in a UIImageView which just makes it more interesting. Thanks for the help and I look forward to achieving this goal.

  • iPhone OS 3.2 - How to register for notifcations that may not be available

    So I'm trying to register for the MPMoviePlayerDidExitFullscreenNotification notification in my universal app (iPhone and iPad). Problem is, OS 3.1.3 doesn't support this notification, and just crashes. I've tried version checking, like so: if ([MPMoviePlayerController instancesRespondToSelector:@selector(setShouldAutoplay:)]) {//Check for shouldSetAutoplay, this ensures that we are running at least 3.2 [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(playerDidFinish:) name:(NSString*)class2 object:[self player]]; Doesn't work, still crashes. How do I do this?

  • iPhone OS 3.2 File Sharing Path

    Currently I have this for my file path and file... NSURL *storeUrl = [NSURL fileURLWithPath: [[self applicationDocumentsDirectory] stringByAppendingPathComponent: @"Shared\PartyPlanner.sqlite"]]; This allows me to share the file with iTunes, but instead of just having 'PartyPlanner.sqlite' in the 'applicationDocumentsDirectory\Shared' I have "SharedPartyPlanner.sqlite" in the 'applicationDocumentsDirectory' is there a cleaner or easier way to get to the shared folder inside of applicationDocumentsDirectory?

  • shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation called several times in a row without any rotation

    I am trying to implement some interface changes in my app, based on the device rotation. My app is a view based app. So, its main view controller has a didload method. The app starts in portrait. Almost all changes on the device orientation triggers the shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation method but this method is not called when the device is put on portrait, after coming from any landscape orientation. While debugging the app, I have put a NSLog(@"orientation=%d", interfaceOrientation); on my shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation method, and what I see is quite strange: When I run the app, shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation is called 6 times before the app's interface even appears. Every time it runs, it reports a different number for the orientation: the order it reports on console is: portrait, portrait, portrait, landscape right, landscape left, upside down) (????). During this time the app is just beginning. All 6 times the debugger reports the method being run by the app's delegate. So, here comes the questions: WHy shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation is not being called when the device enters on portrait? Why is this method running 6 times called by the delegate even before the app starts and shows its interface if no rotation is being done? thanks.

    Nowadays browsers and content management systems all have the plugin/module/addon/theme systems for users to extend at their own will. Developers can also submit plugin to share the plugin with others. The most famous examples are Firefox Addon and Wordpress Plugin Directory. I want to ask that if there is an open source web system specifically designed for this need - to host plugins? Not just one plugin, but all plugins for one software? Ideally it should allow developers to upload the plugin, have a public version for each update, and client software can check if there are any plugin available through the directory's API. As an example, a CMS can have one such directory to host/display theme files. Also is there a better keyword to describe this kind of system?

    We’ve just released Version 2.0.1 of Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java.  This new version has several great enhancements added after I wrote about the first version of the SDK in 2010.  In addition to the AppsDataSource and Java Authentication and Authorization Service (JAAS) features that are in the first version, the Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java now provides: Session management APIs, so you can share session information with Oracle E-Business Suite Setup script for UNIX/Linux for AppsDataSource and JAAS on Oracle WebLogic Server APIs for Message Dictionary, User Profiles, and NLS Javadoc for the APIs (included with the patch) Enhanced documentation included with Note 974949.1 These features can be used with either Release 11i or Release 12.  References AppsDataSource, Java Authentication and Authorization Service, and Utilities for Oracle E-Business Suite (Note 974949.1) FAQ for Integration of Oracle E-Business Suite and Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF) Applications (Doc ID 1296491.1) What's new in those references? EBS SDK for Java Use Cases The uses of the Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java fall into two general scenarios for integrating external applications with Oracle E-Business Suite: Application sharing a session with Oracle E-Business Suite Independent application (not shared session) With an independent application, the external application accesses Oracle E-Business  Suite data and server-side APIs, but it has a completely separate user interface. The external application may also launch pages from the Oracle E-Business Suite home page, but after the initial launch there is no further communication with the Oracle E-Business Suite user interface. Shared session integration means that the external application uses an Oracle E-Business Suite session (ICX session), shares session context information with Oracle E-Business Suite, and accesses Oracle E-Business Suite data. The external application may also launch pages from the Oracle E-Business Suite home page, or regions or pages from the external application may be embedded as regions within Oracle Application Framework pages. Both shared session applications and independent applications use the AppsDataSource feature of the Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java.     The Kinect is awesome. From day one, I’ve said this thing has got potential. After playing with several open-source Kinect projects, I am please to announce that Microsoft has released the official SDK beta on 6/16/2011. I’ve created this quick start guide to get you up to speed in no time flat. Let’s begin: What is it? The Kinect for Windows SDK beta is a starter kit for applications developers that includes APIs, sample code, and drivers. This SDK enables the academic research and enthusiast communities to create rich experiences by using Microsoft Xbox 360 Kinect sensor technology on computers running Windows 7. (defined by Microsoft) Links worth checking out: Download Kinect for Windows SDK beta – You can either download a 32 or 64 bit SDK depending on your OS. Readme for Kinect for Windows SDK Beta from Microsoft Research  Programming Guide: Getting Started with the Kinect for Windows SDK Beta Code Walkthroughs of the samples that ship with the Kinect for Windows SDK beta (Found in \Samples Folder) Coding4Fun Kinect Toolkit – Lots of extension methods and controls for WPF and WinForms. Kinect Mouse Cursor – Use your hands to control things like a mouse created by Brian Peek. Kinect Paint – Basically MS Paint but use your hands! Kinect for Windows SDK Quickstarts Installing and Using the Kinect Sensor Getting it installed: After downloading the Kinect SDK Beta, double click the installer to get the ball rolling. Hit the next button a few times and it should complete installing. Once you have everything installed then simply plug in your Kinect device into the USB Port on your computer and hopefully you will get the following screen: Once installed, you are going to want to check out the following folders: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Research KinectSDK – This contains the actual Kinect Sample Executables along with the documentation as a CHM file. Also check out the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Microsoft Research KinectSDK Samples directory: The main thing to note here is that these folders contain the source code to the applications where you can compile/build them yourself. Audio NUI DEMO Time Let’s get started with some demos. Navigate to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Research KinectSDK folder and double click on ShapeGame.exe. Next up is SkeletalViewer.exe (image taken from http://www.i-programmer.info/news/91-hardware/2619-microsoft-launch-kinect-sdk-beta.html as I could not get a good image using SnagIt) At this point, you will have to download Kinect Mouse Cursor – This is really cool because you can use your hands to control the mouse cursor. I actually used this to resize itself. Last up is Kinect Paint – This is very cool, just make sure you read the instructions! MS Paint on steroids! A few tips for getting started building Kinect Applications. It appears WPF is the way to go with building Kinect Applications. You must also use a version of Visual Studio 2010.  Your going to need to reference Microsoft.Research.Kinect.dll when building a Kinect Application. Right click on References and then goto Browse and navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Research KinectSDK and select Microsoft.Research.Kinect.dll. You are going to want to make sure your project has the Platform target set to x86. The Coding4Fun Kinect Toolkit really makes things easier with extension methods and controls. Just note that this is for WinForms or WPF. Conclusion It looks like we have a lot of fun in store with the Kinect SDK. I’m very excited about the release and have already been thinking about all the applications that I can begin building.   • Android SDK fails to install

    When I try to install the android SDK it fails to install. My OS is Windows XP I just downloaded and installed Java JDK 1.6 Java -version from the command line returns: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/ask java version "1.6.0_17" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.3-b01, mixed mode, sharing) My environment vars have: JAVA_HOME=c:\progra~1\java\jdk1.6.0_11 I downloaded android-sdk-r04-windows.zip I unziped it in V:\AndroidInstall\ When I go to the V:\androindinstall\android-sdk-windows and type "SDK Install.exe" nothing happens... If I go this from graph When I do this from a graphical file viewer I get a quick flash that looks like a command line window and nothing.... When I try to run android list targets from the tool directory I get: Error: Error parsing the sdk. Error: V:\androindinstall\android-sdk-windows\platforms is missing. Error: Unable to parse SDK content. So the basic install setup is not happening. Additional clues: I have a G1 and Android 1.0 was running on this machine. (Almost a year ago) I've updated my G1 to 1.6 so I thought I'd update my SDK before starting new development. When I tried to upgrade it tried and then died as the "directory was in use" So I cleaned out all the android directories, rebooted and redownloaded everythign from scratch. Now it won't run at all. I've clearly got something in an unhappy state, but I've cleaned up all the directories and no remanants seem to be running I've rebooted.... I've missed somethign I just can't figure out what. Paul

  • Firefox add-on development: Register global dynamic custom keyboard shortcuts

    I have been tasked with developing a Firefox add-on that is capable of registering global keyboard shortcuts (ones that will work throughout all areas of Firefox) that will open up the side-bar and execute an XMLRPC request based on previously recorded input. The idea here is that there will be many potential XMLRPC requests that the user will want to execute via a keyboard shortcut. Currently, the add-on is capable of handling pre-defined static keyboard shortcuts via the Firefox overlay. What I would like to achieve, is to allow the user to register their own dynamic custom keyboard shortcut. There is an add-on that currently has some of this functionality, called Keyconfig. I'm not keen on having to ask users to install a second add-on to define their own shortcuts. It also seems that using the dynamic keyboard shortcut registration method in Keyconfig would require the user to close all Firefox windows before the dynamic shortcut is made available. What I would like to know is: Is an XPCOM component the best way to register dynamic keyboard shortcuts from within a Firefox add-on? Is there a way to register the keyboard shortcut so that it is immediately available to all Firefox windows, without having to close the windows beforehand?

  • Annotate pdfs in Firefox on mac-os

    I have several pdfs stored locally. I have file:/// links to these pdfs in my local TiddlyWiki. When I open one of these, Firefox opens it inline, as expected. Now I want to add annotations to these pdfs as I read them. Since I have not found a way to do this when viewing them inline, I used the open in Preview feature in the context menu. This works fine, but when I want to save, Preview complains that the document is locked. It appears Firefox creates a temporary copy that it gives to preview to open, instead of the real thing. Is there any way to work around this? I want to either be able to save the annotated files from preview or to do the annotations directly in Firefox. I am using Snow-Leopard with Firefox 3.6. Edit I can annotate the pdf just fine when I open them in preview directly.

    For web browsing I use Pale Moon. Pale Moon has a Status Bar, similar to what is now known as the Add-on Bar in Firefox. With Pale Moon when I hover over a link URL is shown in the status bar URL is shown instantly Entire width of status bar is allowed for URL, if necessary With Firefox when I hover over a link URL is shown in a tooltip in lower left corner URL is shown after intentional delay Only half the browser window width is allowed for URL Is there a way to make Firefox behave more like Pale Moon? No Status-4-Evar answers I realize Status-4-Evar might be the best solution here but I wish to see what, if any other options are out there. I will also accept well thought out and referenced answers as to why the Firefox way is "better".

  • Sync iCloud bookmarks with Firefox in Windows 7

    I have four devices that I want to sync my bookmarks across: a Mac Mini, a Macbook Air, an iPad2, and a Windows 7 PC. I use Safari on the three Apple products and Firefox 8 on the Windows 7 PC. I use iCloud to sync my bookmarks with the three Apple devices, but this obviously leaves my Windows PC out of the loop. I realize that I can sync the bookmarks to IE and then constantly export them and import them into Firefox, but this is both clunky and not really a "sync" since things that I bookmark on my PC in Firefox won't show up on my other devices. What is the best way to sync my bookmarks from iCloud with a PC running Firefox 8?

  • Remove English - United States language from Firefox

    How do I remove the English (United States) dictionary from Firefox? It's not an add-on so I'm guessing it's built into Firefox by default. Maybe that makes it unremovable? I noticed whilst typing a Hotmail email in Firefox that the default language seems to be English/United States. As I am from the UK I thought I would add in the English/United Kingdom dictionary, which I have. This is now the default language and I don't need the US dictionary. Firefox 3.6.2 on Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.

    What is the "box mode" (for a lack of a better word) in Firefox? How can I exit it again? If I hold down the Ctrl key and left click while the cursor is over some element on a page it becomes boxed: Firefox seems to go into some special mode. What is this mode for? How can I go back to normal mode? Installed add-ons in Firefox: BetterPrivacy 1.29, NoScript 1.9.0.6 and SQLite Manager 0.4.7. (Microsoft .NET Framework Assistent 1.0 is disabled.) Platform: Firefox 3.0.6, Windows XP 64 bit SP2, 8 GB RAM.

  • Open MS Office templates with Firefox ?

    Hello Guys; I've a problem with Firefox or MS Office maybe both of them. Our firm has an Intranet and publishes some documents via Intra. MS Office 2007 is used to create document templates and stored as "file://depo/ISO9001//Form/_Form.xlt, _Form.dot" in the server. Unfortunately Firefox can't open these templates or downloads over Intra. Is there any solution to this issue? I don't want to use Firefox after IE after Firefox. Many thanks and any help will be appreciated.

    Can the Firefox password manager store and manage passwords for multiple sub-domains, or for multiple URLs in the same domain? The default behavior of Firefox is that all requests for *.domain.com are treated as the same. I'd like to have Firefox do the following: Store and manage passwords separately for multiple sub-domains, e.g. mail.google.com and picasa.google.com Store and manage passwords separately for different URLs in the same domain, e.g. http://mail.google.com/a/company1.com and http://mail.google.com/a/company2.com
