  • Any easy way to delete a user (having many to many relation with role) in acegi, grails?

    - by john
Hi, In default acegi setting, person and authority have many to many relations. Thus, in addtion to people and authorities, there is a table authotiries-people. To delete a person (a user) I have to delete the related record in authotiries-people first....then come back to delete the record... the problem is: other people are still using this authority (ROLE) could some one enlighten me how to delete the user without deleting the authority? thanks.

  • Are Ruby on Rails / Grails the fastest frameworks for getting sites up quickly?

    - by Jon
I'm considering using Grails for a new website, but am open to other/new programming languages and frameworks. I have done development using J2EE/JSF2, ASP.NET, and PHP. Is Grails or Ruby on Rails pretty much the best way to get functionality up and running quickly? Some initial thoughts: DJango looks similar to RoR/Grails and I'd consider it GWT is an interesting concept but it doesn't seem like turnaround time is quite as fast Thanks, -Jon

  • Ajax call to parent window after form submission

    - by David
Hi all, Pardon the complicated title. Here's my situation: I'm working on a Grails app, and using jQuery for some of the more complex UI stuff. The way the system is set up, I have an item, which can have various files (user-supplied) associated with it. On my Item/show view, there is a link to add a file. This link pops up a jQuery modal dialog, which displays my file upload form (a remote .gsp). So, the user selects the file and enters a comment, and when the form is submitted, the dialog gets closed, and the list of files on the Item/show view is refreshed. I was initially accomplishing this by adding onclick="javascript:window.parent.$('#myDialog').dialog('close');" to my submit button. This worked fine, but when submitting some larger files, I end up with a race condition where the dialog closes and the file list is refreshed before the new file is saved, and so the list of files is out of date (the file still gets saved properly). So my question is, what is the best way to ensure that the dialog is not closed until after the form submit operation completes? I've tried using the <g:formRemote tag in Grails, and closing the dialog in the "after" attribute (according to the Grails docs, the script is called after form submission), but I receive an error (taken from FireBug) stating that window.parent.$('#myDialog').dialog is not a function Is this a simple JavaScript/Grails syntax issue that I'm missing here, or am I going about this entirely wrong? Thanks so much for your time and assistance!

  • Avoiding .gsp extention in a GSP Page Without a Controller

    - by Guy
Using grails 1.2.1 this should be very simple, but still I can't get it to work. In my application /grails-app/views I've added mypage.gsp Plus "/mypage"(view:"mypage") to the mappings block of my URLMapping class. while http://server-name:8080/myapp/mypage.gsp works I'm still getting 404 - page not found when I try to open http://server-name:8080/myapp/mypage Thanks, Guy

  • groovyx.net.ws.WSClient is having problems with ''soapenc:Array' Any workaround?

    - by ?????
I'm trying to call a webservice (implemented with a .NET/ASP system) from groovy/grails using WSClient. I have no trouble accessing this service using the SOAPClient debugger (Todd Ditchendorf's program for OSX), but when i try it via groovy/grails, I get the error undefined simple or complex type 'soapenc:Array' Is there any solution? Looking at it with wireshark: It seems to have thrown this error even before it gets a chance to perform the transaction. The error is thrown right after WSClient has downloaded the second of two schemas referenced in he WSDL.

  • How to express "where value is in dynamic list" in HQL/GORM?

    - by xcut
For a grails application, I need to find a list of objects whose "attr" is one in a dynamic list of strings. The actual HQL query is more complex, but the bit I need help with is this: def result = MyObject.executeQuery("select o from MyObject as o where o.attr in :list", [list: aListOfStrings]) This is obviously not the right syntax, Grails throws it back at me as an "unexpected token", being the :list parameter. Is this possible in HQL? I don't particularly want to use Criteria in this part of the codebase.

  • How do I (or should I?) access the service layer from a SiteMesh template (views/layouts/main.gsp) in Grails?

    - by knorv
I need to create a toplist in the page footer on a site that I'm building. The footer is created in the default SiteMesh layout template (views/layouts/main.gsp). In order to create the toplist access to the database is needed, so I've encapsulated all logic needed for the toplist creation in a service class (services/FooService). Please note that while services are usually accessed from the controller layer, in this case the default layout template (views/layouts/main.gsp) is not generated from a controller. Can the layout view (views/layouts/main.gsp) access a service class? How? Is this the correct design decision? If not, what is a better encapsulation and how do I interact with said encapsulation from the layout view (views/layouts/main.gsp)?

  • Getting source code information from groovy stack trace

    - by dotsid
When exception generated I want to show some additional information (source code) for particular exception. But grails have very hairy exceptions (it's all about groovy dynamic nature). It's my problem where to get and how to display source code. All I need is file/line information. So... Is there any possibility to get file and line where exception were generated in grails/groovy?

  • Grails SSL TOMCAT

    - by user974459
    I'm implementing grails with SSL and deployed to tomcat 7.0. I have used spring security plugin for SSL. In tomcat, I added <Connector port="80" protocol="HTTP/1.1" connectionTimeout="200000000" redirectPort="443" /> <Connector port="8443" protocol="HTTP/1.1" connectionTimeout="200000000" redirectPort="443" /> <Connector port="443" maxThreads="200" scheme="https" secure="true" SSLEnabled="true" keystoreFile="${user.home}/.keystore" keystorePass="123456" clientAuth="false" sslProtocol="TLS"/> if I type https://localhost is ok. But my app doesn't work.

  • Groovy MetaClass - Add category methods to appropriate metaClasses

    - by noah
I have several categories that I use in my Grails plugin. e.g., class Foo { static foo(ClassA a,Object someArg) { ... } static bar(ClassB b,Object... someArgs) { ... } } I'm looking for the best way to add these methods to the meta-classes so that I don't have to use the category classes and can just invoke them as instance methods. e.g., aInstance.foo(someArg) bInstance.bar(someArgs) Is there a Groovy/Grails class or method that will help me do this or am I stuck iterating through the methods and adding them all myself?

  • Best practice for assigning A/B test variation based on IP address

    - by mojones
I am starting to write some code for A/B testing in a Grails web application. I want to ensure that requests from the same IP address always see the same variation. Rather than store a map of IP-variant, is it OK to simply turn the IP address into an integer by removing the dots, then use that as the seed for a random number generator? The following is taking place in a Grails Filter: def ip = request.remoteAddr def random = new Random(ip.replaceAll(/\./, '').toInteger()) def value = random.nextBoolean() session.assignment = value // value should always be the same for a given IP address I know that identifying users by IP address is not reliable, and I will be using session variables/cookies as well, but this seems to be useful for the case where we have a new session, and no cookies set (or the user has cookies disabled).

  • how to config grails1.2 with oscache?

    - by wavelet
I do this : DataSource.groovy: hibernate { cache.use_second_level_cache=true cache.use_query_cache=true cache.provider_class='com.opensymphony.oscache.hibernate.OSCacheProvider' } and in BuildConfig.groovy: inherits( "global" ) { // uncomment to disable ehcache excludes 'ehcache' } runtime ("opensymphony:oscache:2.4.1") { excludes 'jms', 'commons-logging', 'servlet-api' } but i only get this error : commons.DefaultGrailsApplication The class [com.ai.scenter.service.reschange.ResourceChangeAdapter] was not found when attempting to load Grails application. Skipping. commons.DefaultGrailsApplication The class [com.ai.scenter.service.reschange.ResourceChangeService] was not found when attempting to load Grails application. Skipping. hibernate.ConfigurableLocalSessionFactoryBean There was an error configuring the Hibernate second level cache: could not instantiate CacheProvider [com.opensymphony.oscache.hibernate.OSCacheProvide] hibernate.ConfigurableLocalSessionFactoryBean This is normally due to one of two reasons. Either you have incorrectly specified the cache provider class name in [DataSource.groovy] or you do not have the cache provider on your classpath (eg. runtime ("net.sf.ehcache:ehcache:1.6.1")) how can i do it?

  • Java or Groovy CMS

    - by Don
Hi, I'm considering developing a school information system using the Grails web framework. Before a school can use the system, they will need to setup the following data School data Students Teachers Subjects Classes etc. I'm considering using a CMS in order to get the ability to CRUD these entities "for free". The CMS may also provide other features out-of-the-box that I could use. Ideally the CMS should be implemented in Java or Groovy, does anyone know of something suitable? I looked at the Weceem CMS plugin for Grails, but it's missing some core concepts I need, e.g. the ability to add users to groups. Thanks, Don

  • How to implement a ilike Facebook system without user authentication and still prevent users from cheating ?

    - by fabien7474
Hi, I am trying to implement something done in almost any website out there : a 'ilike' button (like Facebook) that does not require user authetication to be used for any article of my website written in Grails. I don't want to use any external solution, so I need to implement it myself (or use a grails plugin). So my question is : What does it take to implement this 'ilike' button and prevent users from cheating? For instance, do I need to store local cookies (I suppose yes)? Do I need to check the session ID and IP of the HTTP request? Any well-known implementation are welcomed. Thank you very much for your help.

  • How do you stop Eclipse from inserting a certain class in Content-Assist?

    - by fletchgqc.mp
I'm using SpringSource Tool Suite (Eclipse) to program with Grails, and I'm also using JFreechart in the program. In Grails you log by typing log.info("method worked"). Unfortunately JFrechart has a class called "Log" with Static methods like "info". This means that in STS I type log.info and then when I type space or ( Eclipse "assists" me by importing the JFreechart Log class and changing what I've typed to Log.info(message). Very irritating. I reckon I could turn off the Eclipse option to "insert single proposals automatically", but I like this feature. Can I instruct Eclipse not to give me content assist from this particular JFreechart class?

  • What language/framework (technology) to use for website (flash games portal)

    - by cripox
Hello, I know there are a lot of similar questions on the net, but because I am a newbie in web development I didn't find the solution for my specific problem. I am planing on creating a flash games portal from scratch. It is a big chance that there will be big traffic from the beginning (millions of pageviews). I want to reduce the server costs as much as possible but in the same time to not be tide to an expensive contract as there is a chance that the project will not be as successfully as I want and in that case the money would be very little. The question is : what technology to use? I don't know any web dev technology yet so it doesn't matter what I will learn. My web dev experience is a little php 8 years ago, and from then I programmed in C++ / Java- game and mobile development. I like Java and C syntax and language very much and I tend to dislike dynamic typing or non robust scripting (like php)- but I can get along if these are the best choices. The candidates are now: - Grails (my best for now) Ruby on Rails Cake PHP Other technologies (Google App Engine, Python/Django etc...) I was considering at first using pure C and compiling the web app in the server- just to squeeze more from the servers, but soon I understand that this is overkill. Next my eyes came on Ruby - as there is a lot of buzz for it's easiness of use. Next I discovered Grails and looked at Java because it is said that it is "faster". But I don't know what this "Faster" really means on my needs, so here comes the first question: 1) What will be my biggest consumption on the server, other than bandwidth, for a lot of flash content requests? Is it memory? I heard that Java needs a lot of memory, but is faster. Is it CPU? I am planning to take some daily VPS.NET nodes at first, to see if there is a demand, and if the "spike" is permanent to move to a dedicated server (serverloft.com has some good offers), else to remain with less nodes. I was also considering developing in Google App Engine- cheap or free hosting to use at first - so I can test my assumption- and also very easy to use (no need for sys administration) but the costs became high if used more ( 3 million games played / month .. x mb/ each). And the issue with Google is that it looks me in this technology. My other concern is scalability (not only for traffic/users, but as adding functionality) My plans are to release a functional site in just 4 weeks (just the basics frontend and some quick basic backend - so I can be able to modify some things and add games manually) - but then to raise it and add more things to it. I am planning to take a little different approach than other portals so I need to write it from scratch (a script will not do). 2) Will Grails take much more resources than RoR or Php server wise? I heard that making it on Java stack will be hardware expensive and is overkill if you don't make a bank application. My application will not be very complex (I hope and i will try to) but will have a lot of traffic. I also took in account using CDN for files, but the cheapest CDN found was 5c/GB (vps.net) and the cost per gb on serverloft (http://www.serverloft.com/dedizierte-server/server-details.php?products=4) is only 1.79 cents/GB and comes with the other resources either. I am new to this domain (web). I am learning the ropes and searching on the web for ~half of year but don't have any really practical experience, so I know that I must have some naive thinking and other issues that i don't know from now, so please give me any advice you want regarding anything, not just the specific questions asked. And thank you so much for such great community!

  • YUI DataTable - Howto have just one paginator?

    - by Rollo Tomazzi
Hello, I'm using the YUI DataTable in a Grails 1.1 project using the Grails UI plugin 1.0.2 (YUI being 2.6.1). By default, the DataTable displays 2 paginators: one above and another one below the table. Looking up the YUI API documentation, I could see that I can pass an array of YUI containers as a config parameter but - what are the names of these containers? I've tried loooking at the HTML of the page using Firebug. The ID of the divs containing the paginators are: yui-dt0-paginator0 (above) and yui-dt0-paginator1 (below). If I use them to configure the containers for the navigator, then the navigator is just not displayed at all. Here's the relevant extract of the GSP page containing the Datatable element. <div class="body"> <h1>This is the List of Control Accounts</h1> <g:if test="${flash.message}"> <div class="message">${flash.message}</div> </g:if> <div class="yui-skin-sam"> <gui:dataTable controller="controlAccount" action="enhancedListDataTableJSON" columnDefs="[ [key:'id', label:'ID'], [key:'col1', label:'Col 1', sortable: true, resizeable: true], [key:'col2', label:'Col 2', sortable: true, resizeable: true] ]" sortedBy="col1" rowsPerPage="20" paginatorConfig="[ template:'{PreviousPageLink} {PageLinks} {NextPageLink} {CurrentPageReport}', pageReportTemplate:'{totalRecords} total accounts', alwaysVisible:true, containers:'yui-dt0-paginator1' ]" rowExpansion="true" /> </div> </div> Any help? Thanks! Rollo

  • jQuery How do I move an element inside of another element

    - by TripWired
Hi I'm using grails navigation plugin and when it generates menus it put the sub navigation underneath the main menu, but i'm making my menu a vertical menu so i don't want the sub menu under the whole menu i want it under the active element. Example: this is how it generate the menu and sub menu <ul class="mainmenu"> <li>item1</li> <li>item2</li> <li>item3</li> </ul> <ul class="submenu"> <li>item1</li> <li>item2</li> <li>item3</li> </ul> What i want is: <ul class="mainmenu"> <li>item1 <ul class="submenu"> <li>item1</li> <li>item2</li> <li>item3</li> </ul> </li> <li>item2</li> <li>item3</li> </ul> Since i don't know of a way to make grails nav plugin do this i guess i'll have to make jquery do it after it's generated. Any ideas?
