• Internet Explorer 10 auto-correct randomly capitalises words

  I use Internet Explorer 10 on my Windows 7 laptop (because the fingerprint browser add-on only works in IE). I have noticed that IE 10 has a built-in spellchecker, which is great. Now, I write about 90 % English and 10 % Swedish on web sites, so it is somewhat unfortunate that it isn't possible to change the spell-checker language 'on-the-fly'. But that's a minor issue. The main problem is that, when I write English comments, the spell-checker (apparently randomly) capitalises some Words. For instance, the 'words' of the previous sentence was changed automatically to 'Words'. Another Word that is Always capitalised is Before. (Yes, the Three Words that are incorrectly capitalised in the previous sentence are due to the auto-correct 'feature', and apparently 'three' is also a problematic word.) Is this really something that happens to every (bilingual) user? Is there any way to fix the issue (preferably without disabling the spell-checker altogether)?

  i would like to customize the left side of my windows explorer. Can someone point me to a tutorial how to do this or maybe even give me a solution? i would like to change it from left (how it looks like right now) to the way it looks on the right side. I have found a few QA's on this page how to remove this or that, but i want to customize it how i like, not only remove something. There also seems to be a tool available but it looks like that it only permits to hide/show navigation entries but not to re-order them. Thanks for any help! chris

  I am running Vista Home Premium. I tried to write a script to do some simple automation.... it does not work! even the most simple script like: @echo ON dir . does not get executed and only an empty CMD shell pops open when started from explorer. From the cmd windows there is no problem. This is really weird and I have never seen this before (but wrote many CMD scripts before) ftype cmdfile and batfile are unchanged from "%1" %* virusscan done - no problems Is there a policy setting that might have changed? Any ideas?

• Internet Explorer defaults to 64-bit version

  My IE8 has suddenly started defaulting to the 64-bit version. I have no idea how or why this has happened, but I suspect it might be linked to the Browser Choice Screen that Microsoft was recently forced to display by EU law. However, many web sites will not display correctly in IE8 x64 (eg. sites that use Adobe Flash or Microsoft Silverlight). I have the 32-bit version of IE pinned to my taskbar and if I launch it manually, everything is fine. But when I click on a URL from another program and IE is not already running, then the 64-bit version gets launched. This really messes with programs like BBC iPlayer which rely heavily on Adbobe Air and Flash. So, how do I get IE8 32-bit version to be the default version again? I've tried using the "default programs" control panel and that doesn;t make any difference (in fact, it doesn't give the choice between x84 and x64 versions, it just lists "internet explorer").

• Internet Explorer 8 Viewing PDF files vs saving them

  I have a user asking about viewing PDF files in Internet Explorer. When she clicks the file link on a website, IE prompts her to save the file, which she then has to open to read. What she's not seeing in the prompt is the ability to open the file without having to save it, or, just opening the PDF automatically. She and a few others are having the same problem, while a majority of the user do not have this problem. All of the users have IE 8 and Adobe Reader 9 installed. I've verified that Adobe Reader's "Display PDF in browser" option is enabled. What else should I check?

• Font rendering in Internet Explorer vs other browsers on Windows XP

  I have four browsers installed on my Windows XP SP3 machine: Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 3.5, Safari 4, and Google Chrome. For whatever reason, fonts appeared to be rendered differently in IE than in the other browsers. It seems the fonts are anti-aliased in IE but not in the others. Why might this be? Is this an issue with the browsers or my operating system? I've noticed this issue on several Windows XP machines that I've used. While it may seem like no big deal, the lack of font smoothing in the other browsers keeps me from using them as my primary browser. Most importantly, what can I do to get the other browsers to render fonts smoothly?

  I have a folder containing files like radiobutton-clicked.png radiobutton-foobar.png radiobutton-foobarbaz.png ... etc. This is what happens when I search in Windows Explorer: radio: all files found radio*: all files found *button: all files found *radiobutton*: all files found radiobutton*: no results radiobutton: no results radio*button: all files found So what the hell does the * precisely do? Is there some documentation on this? And why does radio and radio*button work as a search term, but radiobutton not? Edit: I know that * is usually supposed to be a wildcard matching 0 or more characters. But obviously it doesn't in this case.

  When viewing the list of network computers in Windows Explorer on a Win 7 machine there appears to be no way of readily seeing the description field, which makes that pretty well useless. I believe this problem started with Vista but I'm seeing it for the first time because I was fortunate enough to skip over Vista. We're currently rolling out Win 7 on new boxes and although I'm changing the naming system to something more sensible, the old boxes have names such as FWS01, FWS02, etc. Managing a network of computers with such names is made more difficult when you can't readily see who's machine each one is. Googling the problem brought up a workaround involving creating a shortcut on an XP machine and copying that to the Win 7 box but that's a long way from ideal. Is there some kind of hack that can be applied to machines, the operator of which needs to be able to see the description field?

• Why is Windows Explorer not responding?

  I am having the seemingy popular problem with Widows Explorer not responding. I have tried the AUTRUNS and turned off everything recommended. I have run SCANNOW 3 times and it comes back clean. When booting in safe mode it appears to work. I read someplace that the problem could be a service program, but can't remember where I read it or how to do it. Something about turning off all service programs and then turning them back on one at a time. The problem is I don't remember what it said to do. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. as an FYI here is my system stats Sorry I can't access that part of control panel right now because windows explore not responding. I have an HPdesk top with a AMD quad core processor 1.8GB 1.5TB sata drives (a 1TB and a 500GB) Nvidia 8400 graphics card a 2mb internet connetion wireless 2 DBD R?W drives.   I have the software mentioned in the title running on my machine. When I connect over VPN to my company's network, my internet connection gets borked, because somehow the ISA firewall blocks it. This is completely idiotic, because my work involves extensive use of the internet, so having to disconnect and reconnect continuously seriously cripples my productivity. (Meaning: I'm tearing my hair out here.) Can I have my VPN connection and somehow still have my internet connection too? I'm open to any solution.

  I'm currently using a Motorola WiMAX modem (CPEi 25725) and cannot connect to the internet. I can connect to the modem at 192.168.15.1 and check its status. It says that it has good/excellent connectivity to the internet and shows all five signal bars. Additionally it has sent and received some WiMAX packets so I believe it is connected to a tower. I'm at a loss for what the problem is. Unplugging the modem, restarting it from software, and restarting my computer (Windows 7) have not helped. Windows still reports that it is not connected to the internet. Alternatively, could this be an ISP issue? I have heard that Clearwire is a not-so-reputable ISP that blocks VoIP, and I was using Skype recently.

  We use wireless internet access. The wireless is secured and to get an IP address, you provide the right key. That is setup just fine. However, on top of that, the first time we access the internet, a browser page appears and we have to enter a password. then we have access to the internet for a period of time. How can the password step be automated? I also have a web-based printer that doesn't work (except via USB connection) because it can't get out to the web. I can't change the router settings. Is there anything I can do to get the printer working and automatic the access?

  I have a netbook that occassionally, usually once or twice a day, maybe more, will lose its internet connection while I am on Skype (that's when I notice it most, it may happen more often). The little yellow dot appears over the networking icon in the system tray, which when I click on it says no internet access at the top of the popup menu, and next to the router connection that I have. Disconnecting and reconnecting usually rectifies full internet access again. I'm not sure if leaving it for any amount of time allows the netbook to automatically reconnect again. Everything seems fine with my laptop. I don't think this loses connection in the same way. I'm using Windows 7 home premium.

  I have a U-verse ATT DSL Internet at our church building. Recently, any computer that is plugged into the network via Ethernet keeps losing its internet connectivity. The setup is from the Modem to a Netgear Wireless Router, and from the router to 3 different computers. None of the laptops that use Wifi ever lose internet, just the wired ones, and I end up having to do ipconfig /release and /renew every day to get it back. One computer has Windows 7 and one has Windows XP. Any ideas as to what is going on with our network?

  I have a Windows Vista computer which i have used for about 2 years without any issues. Recently, i started having problems connecting to the internet with this Vista computer. My other XP Computers are fine and can connect to the Internet. Regardless of wired or wireless connection, i am unable to get the Vista computer connected to the web. The Status remains "Limited" for IPv4 and IPv6. It also shows unidentified Public Network, and is able to connect to the router. However, there's a disconnection between the router and the internet.   One of the biggest annoyances for me of Windows 7 vs Windows XP is that you cant select files properly by hovering over them on Windows Explorer (or multi select by holding ctrl). When i hover an item it gets light blue, not selected. Only after a time or after more hovering, it gets selected. I set the delay (MouseHoverTime) to 1. Windows seems to avoid wrong selection by requiring an additional time or space of mouse hovering before actually selecting the item. I tried playing with the values MouseHoverHeight, MouseHoverWidth, MouseSensitivity, MouseThreshold1 and MouseThreshold2 in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse, but they seem to have no effect over this. (they are currently on (20, 20, 16, 6, 10, respectively). What i want: to immediately select an item whenever the mouse gets over its bounds.
