  • App Engine: Launching a script upon update/run

    - by kovshenin
Hi all. I'm working with App Engine and I'm thinking about using the LESS CSS extension in my next project. There's no good LESS CSS library written in Python so I went on with the original Ruby one which works great and out of the box. I'd like App Engine to execute lessc ./templates/css/style.less before running the development server and before uploading the files to the cloud. What is the best way to automate this? I'm thinking: #run.sh: lessc ./templates/css/style.less .gae/dev_appserver.py --use_sqlite . And #deploy.sh lessc ./templates/css/style.less .gae/appcfg.py update . Am I on the correct path or is there a more elegant way of doing things, perhaps at the appcfg.py level? Thanks.

  • App Engine remote_api with OpenID

    - by hawkettc
Hi, I've recently tried to switch my app engine app to using openID, but I'm having an issue authenticating with remote_api. The old authentication mechanism for remote_api doesn't seem to work (which makes sense) - I'm getting a 'urllib2.HTTPError: HTTP Error 302: Found', which I assume is appengine redirecting me to the openid login page I've set up. I guess I'm missing something fairly obvious. Currently my remote_api script has the following in it - remote_api_stub.ConfigureRemoteDatastore(app_id=app_id, path='/remote_api', auth_func=auth_func, servername=host, secure=secure) where auth_func is def auth_func(): return raw_input('Username:'), getpass.getpass('Password:') Any ideas what I need to supply to remote_api? I guess similar issues would be encountered with bulkloader too. Cheers, Colin

  • How do I crash the App Pool?

    - by willem
Our ASP.NET 2 web application handles exceptions very elegantly. We catch exceptions in Global ASAX in Application_Error. From there we log the exception and we show a friendly message to the user. However, this morning we deployed the latest version of our site. It ran ok for half an hour, but then the App Pool crashed. The site did not come back up until we restored the previous release. How can I make the app pool crash and skip the normal exception handler? I'm trying to replicate this problem, but with no luck so far. Update: we found the solution. One of our pages was screenscraping another page. But the URL was configured incorrectly and the page ended up screenscraping itself infinitely, thus causing a stack overflow exception.

  • app.config - where should it go?

    - by Piers
This is a follow on from here: Storing database settings outside app.config So I know it's possible to have one app.config, with different sections externalised, all with different values. But are they like the web.config files in asp.net projects where you can just copy it into the same folder as the rest of the files and it will work, or do I need to compile it in somewhere. Also, won't it be overwritten by the .exe.config file? Edit Ok, so I worded this question a bit badly. I've updated it.

  • Keeping connection to APNs open on App Engine using Modules in Go

    - by user3727820
I'm trying to implement iOS push notifications for a messageboard app I've written (so like notification for new message ect. ect.) but have no real idea where to start. Alot the current documentation seems to be out of date in regard to keeping persistent TLS connections open to the APNs from App Engine and links to articles about depreciated backends I'm using the Go runtime and just keep getting stuck. For instance, the creation of the socket connection to APNs requires a Context which can only be got from a HTTP request, but architecturally this doesn't seem to make a lot of sense because ideally the socket remains open regardless. Is there any clearer guides around that I'm missing or right now is it a better idea to setup a separate VPS or compute instance to handle it?

  • how to upload a audio file using REST webservice in Google App Engine for Java

    - by sathya
Am using google app engine with eclipse IDE and trying to upload a audio file. I used the File Upload in Google App Engine For Java and can able to upload the file successfully. Now am planning to use REST web service for it. I had analyzed in developers.google but i failed. Can anyone suggest me how to implement REST Web services in google app engine using Eclipse. The code google provided is shown below, // file Upload.java public class Upload extends HttpServlet { private BlobstoreService blobstoreService = BlobstoreServiceFactory.getBlobstoreService(); public void doPost(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res) throws ServletException, IOException { Map<String, BlobKey> blobs = blobstoreService.getUploadedBlobs(req); BlobKey blobKey = blobs.get("myFile"); if (blobKey == null) { res.sendRedirect("/"); } else { res.sendRedirect("/serve?blob-key=" + blobKey.getKeyString()); }}} // file Serve.java public class Serve extends HttpServlet { private BlobstoreService blobstoreService = BlobstoreServiceFactory.getBlobstoreService(); public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res) throws IOException { BlobKey blobKey = new BlobKey(req.getParameter("blob-key")); blobstoreService.serve(blobKey, res); }} // file index.jsp <%@ page import="com.google.appengine.api.blobstore.BlobstoreServiceFactory" %> <%@ page import="com.google.appengine.api.blobstore.BlobstoreService" %> <% BlobstoreService blobstoreService = BlobstoreServiceFactory.getBlobstoreService(); %> <form action="<%= blobstoreService.createUploadUrl("/upload") %>" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data"> <input type="file" name="myFile"> <input type="submit" value="Submit"> </form> // web.xml <servlet> <servlet-name>Upload</servlet-name> <servlet-class>Upload</servlet-class> </servlet> <servlet> <servlet-name>Serve</servlet-name> <servlet-class>Serve</servlet-class> </servlet> <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>Upload</servlet-name> <url-pattern>/upload</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>Serve</servlet-name> <url-pattern>/serve</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> Now how to provide a rest web service for the above code. Kindly suggest me an idea.

  • Online Game programming in Google App Engine: AI

    - by Hortinstein
I am currently in the planning stages of a game for google app engine, but cannot wrap my head around how I am going to handle AI. I intend to have persistant NPCs that will move about the map, but short of writing a program that generates the same XML requests I use to control player actions, than run it on another server I am stuck on how to do it. I have looked at the Task Queue feature, but due to long running processes not being an option on the App engine, I am a little stuck. I intend to run multiple server instances with 200+ persistant NPC entities that I will need to update. Most action is slowly roaming around based on player movements/concentrations, and attacking close range players(you can probably guess the type of game im developing)

  • What alternatives are there to Google App Engine?

    - by Chris Marasti-Georg
What alternatives are there to GAE, given that I already have a good bit of code working that I would like to keep. In other words, I'm digging python. However, my use case is more of a low number of requests, higher CPU usage type use case, and I'm worried that I may not be able to stay with App Engine forever. I have heard a lot of people talking about Amazon Web Services and other sorts of cloud providers, but I am having a hard time seeing where most of these other offerings provide the range of services (data querying, user authentication, automatic scaling) that App Engine provides. What are my options here?

  • Google app engine sessions now supported???

    - by user246114
Hi, I thought google app engine did not support sessions (last time I checked was a few months ago). Now I was searching again for it and saw this: http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/java/config/appconfig.html#Enabling_Sessions says it supports: javax.servlet.http.HttpSession does this mean we have servlet session support now? If so, does anyone have an example of using this? I wanted to create my own User class and support user login and session management (I know app engine already supports this for google users, but wanted my own users for various requirements) Thanks!

  • GAE app.yaml appears to be inconsistently routing requests

    - by kamens
I have the following in app.yaml: - url: /gae_mini_profiler/static static_dir: gae_mini_profiler/static - url: /gae_mini_profiler/.* script: gae_mini_profiler/main.py - url: .* script: main.py and the following in gae_mini_profiler/main.py: def main(): logging.critical("gae_mini_profiler request!") run_wsgi_app(application) However, when I fire requests to, say, /gae_mini_profiler/request?request=ABC, and repeatedly reload the page, sometimes I will get the proper response (as well as a "gae_mini_profiler request!" log entry, and sometimes I get a blank response and nothing in the App Engine logs other than a 200 with an empty response body. This is completely reproducible, only happens in the live environment, and I'd say ~50% of the refreshes work while 50% do not. This only happens in production. Any ideas?

  • How use AppEngine's Datastore Admin: Copy to Another App Feature

    - by Nick Siderakis
I recently enabled AppEngine's Datastore Admin. I do not understand the instructions on how to copy my data to another app. Note: The target application must enable remote_api and must include this application’s ID in its HTTP_X_APPENGINE_INBOUND_APPID list. WARNING This application’s data is writable. We can only guarantee a consistent copy when the data being copied is read-only. Note: Blobs (binary data) will not be copied. To enable the remote_api I included the following in the app.yaml: builtins: - remote_api: on I have no idea what HTTP_X_APPENGINE_INBOUND_APPID is, and a Google search yields no results....any ideas?

  • Same question to multiple remote users with different login

    - by user562802
Hello all, This is my first post to Stack Overflow so apologies if I chosen wrong words for the title. I am very new to Google App Engine and python. I am building a web application using Pyhton and Django which is question and multiple answers type. Once the users are login to website, they will be provided with random questions from datastore. What my requirement is if certain users want to form group so that they all can get the same set of random questions to answer,is this possible ? Without forming the group each user are getting different random questions on their end. Thanks, Sunil

  • Emailing a picture to a Google App Engine site

    - by Dan Hook
I would like to create an app such that I can send an email with a JPEG attachment and then display it on my site. I am fairly certain that the Mail API allows me to do this, but if it isn't possible please let me know. My biggest concern is what are the limits on the attachment size my app can receive, and what are the quotas related to receiving email? The email quotas I saw seemed to specify quotas for outgoing email. Is it different for incoming mail?

  • OpenID login on local development server for google app engine

    - by Alex Jeffery
Are you able to use open id to log into the local development server with google app engine sdk version 1.4.1 and python 2.5? When I execute this self.redirect(users.create_login_url(continue_url, None, openid_url)) I get redirected to http://localhost/_ah/login rather than the openid url. The openid url and continue url are valid. My app.yaml looks like this - url: /_ah/login_required script: do_openid_login.py - url: /users/(.*) script: routers/user_router.py login: required If I browse to http://localhost/users/ I am also redirected to http://localhost/_ah/login rather than http://localhost/_ah/login_required Is there a config issue or does openid not work locally?

  • Sending emails from Django App

    - by Will M.
We are a growing Django app that is currently using Google Apps to send email. We are hitting the maximum limits of email sending and need a better solution. We prefer not to have to manage our own email servers and the easier the better. What is the best, easiest, and cheapest way to send a large amount of email? We have looked at Postageapp but they require you to use your own SMTP server. We are considering App Engine to send email but it will require a lot of configuration to get it to work correctly. What can we use to quickly fix this problem?

  • Google App Engine: Difficulty with Users API (or maybe just a Python syntax problem)

    - by Rosarch
I have a simple GAE app that includes a login/logout link. This app is running on the dev server at the moment. The base page handler gets the current user, and creates a login/logout url appropriately. It then puts this information into a _template_data dictionary, for convenience of subclasses. class BasePage(webapp.RequestHandler): _user = users.get_current_user() _login_logout_link = None if _user: _login_logout_link = users.create_logout_url('/') else: _login_logout_link = users.create_login_url('/') _template_data = {} _template_data['login_logout_link'] = _login_logout_link _template_data['user'] = _user def render(self, templateName, templateData): path = os.path.join(os.path.dirname(__file__), 'Static/Templates/%s.html' % templateName) self.response.out.write(template.render(path, templateData)) Here is one such subclass: class MainPage(BasePage): def get(self): self.render('start', self._template_data) The login/logout link is displayed fine, and going to the correct devserver login/logout page. However, it seems to have no effect - the server still seems to think the user is logged out. What am I doing wrong here?
