  WebStorm/PhpStorm: How do I choose a specific font from a font family? (for the editor). Specifically, I have downloaded the Source Code Pro font. It comes with these typefaces: Extra Light, Light, Regular, Semibold, Bold. Now, I want to choose Extra Light/Light. But, when trying to select a font, Webstorm only shows me one font for the entire family. How do I make it use a specific one? If it makes a difference, I am currently using Mac OS X Mountain Lion (but I'd be interested in finding the answer to this for Windows as well)

• Brand new battery is 100% charged but at 0% capacity

  I just bought a brand new battery to replace one that had seemingly died. I followed the instructions that came with the battery and charged it overnight, then ran my computer on battery until it was in a critical state and charged it overnight again. Now the battery appears to be 100% charged and at the same time at 0% capacity—when it's plugged in it doesn't charge and when it's unplugged the computer immediately goes into low power mode. I've taken the battery out and checked the contacts. I've rebooted the system with and without the battery. Nothing seems to help. I'm not sure if I should blame the battery, the laptop, the charger, or the power management software for this state of affairs. The obvious answer would be the battery but I bought this battery because another year-old battery exhibited similar behavior—I assumed it was dead and a Dell tech came to the same conclusion. I'm loathe to order another new battery without first exploring other explanations. What can I do to diagnose this problem? • Chrome pegs CPU playing YouTube videos

  I am not sure when this started, but the issue definitely exists in the latest version of Chrome (10.0.648.127). Playing youtube video at 320p essentially pegs the CPU. The process that kills is WindowServer which takes up the lion's share of the CPU. When I close the tab, everything goes back to normal. If I try this in Safari or Firefox, CPU usage is within acceptable levels. I am on a 2-3 year old MacMini, which is not the latest, but runs most apps fine. 1.83Mhz Intel Core 2 Duo. Is there a setting within Chrome I can set to fix this issue?

• How to change aging AD password while connected over VPN from Mac

  I am connecting to the office from mac via VPN, Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client. I do not know what to do when my AD password on the firm side will age and approach expiration to ensure that my Mac and VPN continue to work afterwards. Is the proper thing to do in this case to connect via VPN and then change the password on Mac via System Preferences, Users & Groups? Will this update the AD on the server side? Will it sync the PointSec as well that is running on the Mac? Or is a better procedure to RDP to a Windows box while connected over VPN and change the password there hoping the Mac will somehow sync up ?? Running Mountain Lion on the Mac.

• Connect my mac to my external local asp server

  I have pc server running asp that we use locally for our work that we have several PC's connected to it, and all works ok with this and we can run the sites locally ok. But I would also like to connect our mac to this server so we can also then use Dreamweaver on. I can access the server via the mac and Dreamweaver but when I set up a site(s) via DW using the same settings as we do on a PC and then run locally the site fails. Is there a way I can set up the mac to then be able to run the sites from DW using this local server? iMac IO Lion Dreamweaver Our server is windows 2003 sever.

• bash process uses 90% CPU, comes back on computer restart

  I’ve replaced the old HDD of my late 2008 unibody MacBook (8 GB of RAM, running OS X 10.7.4) with an OCZ Vertex 3 SSD. After doing this, I've installed Lion and restored my data from a Time Machine backup. Everything is fine, except for a process named “bash” that permanently uses about 90 % CPU. If I kill it via Activity Monitor, everything goes back to normal, but unfortunately the process comes back every time I restart the computer. I've tried do zap the PRAM, reinstall 10.7.4 from the combo package, and even simply wait for more than 2 hours, but the problem is still here.

  So, I just installed the node.js package from nodejs.org and I was poking around to see what it installed. Over in /usr/local/bin I saw this owner 24561. I see it in a few other places too. What is this? What does it mean?   Can anyone tell me what the main differences between i.e. MBR vs GPT or any other partition scheme are? Why would one choose one over the other? I am not an expert but from new release of Mac OS X which includes a feature called Time Machine, which I find highly useful. GPT is the requirement for Mac OS X Lion ... so on this basis I would say that GPT is more useful than MBR. What other partition schemes are there and which one should be used in which situation?

• What to do with a Blowfish Key?

  I just completed backing up 8 years of my Gmail using http://gmvault.org I selected the --encrypt option which uses Blowfish encryption. According to their site: Emails can be encrypted with the option -e --encrypt. With that option, the Blowfish encryption is used to crypt your emails and chats and the first time you activate it, a secret key is randomly generated and stored in $HOME/.gmvault/token.sec. Keep great care of the secret key as if you loose or delete it your stored emails won't be readable anymore !!! I'm using OSX Lion. I'm a software engineer but far from an encryption expert. What should I do with this key? It seems like leaving it where it is now (alongside the emails) sort of misses the point of encrypting them to begin with.

• Netbook performs hard shutdown without warning on low battery power

  My Asus EEE netbook performs a hard shutdown when it reaches low battery power, without giving any warning - i.e. the power just goes off, without any shutdown process. I can't find anything in the syslog, and no error messages are printed before it happens. I've had this problem on previous (K)Ubuntu versions, and hoped updating to Ubuntu Precise would help resolve the issue, but it hasn't. The option in the Power application for "when power is critically low" is currently blank - the only options are a (grayed-out) hibernate and "Power off". I have re-installed indicator-power to no effect. The time remaining reported by acpi is unstable, as is the time remaining reported by gnome-power-statistics. (For example, running acpi twice in succession, I got 2h16min, and then 3h21min remaining. These sorts of jumps in the remaining time are also in the gnome-power-statistics graphs.) It might be possible to write a script to give me advance warning (as per @RanRag's comment below), but I would prefer to isolate why I don't get a critical battery notification from the system before this happens, so that I can take action as appropriate (suspend/shutdown/plug in power) when I get a notification. • "Serious errors found HF checking the drive for /home" After Moving /home to external HFSplus partition

  I just installed Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion" and Ubuntu 11.10 on my MacBook Pro. Using these instructions: tuxation.com/creating-home-partition-mac-linux.html . After changing the location of my home folder to the new location, it gives me the error in the title, and my username no longer appears in the login screen. Using the "Other" option with my username seems to make it try to log in, but the screen quickly flashes between blank and a shell before kicking me back to the login screen without notice. I'm trying to share my home folder between Mac OS X and Ubuntu, using an hfsplus partition (unjournaled) between the two. The home partition seems to mount fine as /home, and I am able to modify it under Ubuntu. Below is the line I've added to fstab: /dev/sda3 /home hfsplus defaults 0 1 I should also note that I changed my account's username and home directory location to match this, though I've double checked that and everything seems in order there... Thank you in advance for any assistance. Edit: It seems that the /etc/passwd file didn't have my new home directory's location in it, so I changed that, and I am now able to log into my account, although I am still not listed in the login screen, and my username in the menu on the top right shows up as "[Invalid UTF-8]"...

• How to connect to my Local Host?

  I have Mac OSx (mountain Lion), Windows 7, Fedora 17 installed on my Macbook pro, and I can't connect to the local host on any of them, it always tells me can't connect. I'm learning mysql and from the tutorials, I guess I have to be connected to my localhost to create databases and stuff, but do I have to install something first for it to work? P.S. - for mac, I don't have the option "web sharing" to enable in the system preferences. - for windows, I tried to enable IIS, but it gives me an error ... I also tried to work it out using the cmd.exe but it just doesn't work as well. - for fedora, I'm new to it, but I just installed and I have no idea why it's not working.

• Unable to install Ubuntu 12.04.1 on Virtualbox on Windows 7 Host

  I would like to install Ubuntu 12.04.1 in a virtual box on windows 7 host however I get a black screen after selecting to install Ubuntu i.e. right after choosing English language I have tried the 32bit and 64bit version desktop version, have also read thru some guides e.g. http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/virtualbox but I could not find any solution to fix this problem. BTW I have Ubuntu installed using Virtual PC (not running at the same time), also I have mac OS (mountain lion) installed using Virtual Box so I do not think it is a problem with the virtual box or windows 7 host. My VM configuration is with 1 core and 1 GB of ram using 20GB VDI; rest is default config. My hardware is Core i7 3770k / Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe / GSkill 32GB which I believe should be more than sufficient to run another VM. I have moved my user profile from SSD to HDD via junction however IMHO it should not matter. Has anyone else come across this problem and found a solution? Any help/thoughts on how to solve this would be very much appreciated.

• Access Bind9 DNS in Virtualbox on Host

  I've set up a Ubuntu 10.04 Virtual Box with a Bind9 DNS server. The Box has a NAT Network connection for internet access and a host-only adapter for static ip connections from the host (OSX Lion). Thats the only way i managed to get internet and static ip inside the box, guess there is a better one ... The DNS works fine from inside the virtualbox, but not from the host. The http and ftp on the guest system is accessible via both addresses, so connection between host and guest are fine i guess. I tried to add both IP's as name servers. I'm completely new to Bind9 and DNS configuration. Anybody has a hint for me whats wrong? Or how i have to configure the DNS server?

• Oracle JDK 7u10 released with new security features

  A few days ago, we released JRE and JDK 7 update 10. This release adds support for the following new platforms: Windows 8 on x86-64. Note that Modern UI (aka Metro) mode is not supported. Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 8. Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) This release also introduces new features that provide enhanced security for Java applet and webstart applications, specifically: The Java runtime tracks if it is updated to the latest security baseline. If you try to execute an unsigned applet with an outdated version of Java, a warning dialog will prompt you to update before running the applet. The Java runtime includes a hardcoded best before date. It is assumed that a new version will be released before this date. If the client has not been able to check for an update prior to this date, the Java runtime will assume that it is insecure and start warning the user prior to executing any applets. The Java control panel now includes an option to set the desired security level on a low-medium-high-very high scale, as well as an option to disable Java applets and webstart entirely. This level controls things such as if the Java runtime is allowed to execute unsigned code, and if so what type of warning will be displayed to the user. • Different display arrangements for two identical displays

  I have a MacBook Pro running OSX Lion and two workplaces with identical setups: at both places I have an 27" LED Cinema display. At one workplace my MacBook is on the left side of the external display, and at the other workplace it is on the right. I would like to have two different display arrangements for the two different setups, however, when I change the display arrangements in System Preferences when connected to one display, the arrangement is changed for the other display as well. I used to have a 27" and a 24" Cinema Display, and OSX used to remember the display arrangements for those different displays, but now the displays are identical, so they use the same arrangements setting. Is there any way to tell OSX to handle two identical displays as different ones so I can configure two different arrangements for the two setups?

  I know this has been asked before but none of the answers seems to work in OS X mountain lion. I would like to launch a process via SSH and close the terminal without kill the process. nohup ccl64 -e '(ql:quickload :"file")' & doesn't work. When the terminal is closed the process dies nohup ccl64 -e '(ql:quickload :"file")' same here I think there must be a way. this is very annoying as it works as a standard in any linux system yet mac os x refuses to work with any of these combinations. • Can I automatically login to ssh using passwords from OS X keychain?

  I need to login to an ssh server which doesn't support key based authentication. And I don't want to type the passwords every time. I am using OS X Lion (10.7.2). I have added the passwords to the OS X keychain[1]. Now I can retrieve the password automatically from the keychain using /usr/bin/security, however I can't find a way to send this password to the ssh prompt. I also tried sshpass. However when I try to run it ssh exits with the following error: ssh_askpass: exec(/usr/libexec/ssh-askpass): No such file or directory Permission denied, please try again. ssh_askpass: exec(/usr/libexec/ssh-askpass): No such file or directory Permission denied, please try again. ssh_askpass: exec(/usr/libexec/ssh-askpass): No such file or directory Permission denied (publickey,password). Is there anyway I can login to this server without having to enter the password every time? • Mac OS X - Quickly change voices for Text-to-Speech

  I love the text to Speech feature of Mac OS X. Since I'm not a native English speaker I'm very happy about all the additional languages added since Lion came out. However, I do use English as well as my native language (German). Changing voices is a bit of a pain. It just requires too many steps to be comfortable. Is there any way to make this easy? I was looking for shortcuts, maybe a drop down menu somwhere up in the right corner, anything would be fine. Since my search was not successful, I hope to find some advice here on SuperUser.   The need - This question is relevant for all of those who want to bypass their corporate's annoying VPN, and access their work/corporate network from their private computer, especially if the corporate VPN client software can't run on their private computer. Homework: this question is very similar to this one and this one, which aren't answered :( The challange - Can't run the corporate VPN client from the private computer, so converted the work laptop to a VMWare Virtual Machine. The VPN client is working fine inside the Guest VM, now we want to share it with the Host (the private computer) The specs: * The private computer (Host OS) is Mac OS X Lion 64bit * The corporate laptop (Guest VM) is WinXP 32bit, running in Bridged network mode * The VPN client on the Guest VM is is Checkpoint SecuRemote NGX R60 HFA03 * While the VPN is running in the Guest VM, the Host can still ping the Guest and vice versa

• git log and git stash list return : No such file or directory

  I think I've messed something up. When I try the following commands I always get “: No such file or directory“. $ git stash list : No such file or directory $ git log : No such file or directory $ git diff : No such file or directory I tried reinstalling git and updated to mountain lion, searched in my .bash_profile and .bashrc, but nothing changed. I hope you can help me fix it. There is another problem. I don't know if this is related. For each blank line in my .bash_profile I get a : command not found. I commented them out and was fine.

• Cmd+Less Than (10.8.2) not working after Xcode (4.5.x) installed

  I had to reinstall my MBP recently. I stress Cmd+Less Than a lot for switching between Xcode's main window and the Organizer for documentation. The standard OSX-shortcut for doing that is Cmd + Less Than. After installing Xcode it didn't work any longer. I saw, that Xcode uses Cmd+LT for "Edit Schemes", a rarely used option. Even after deleting the shortcut for "Edit Schemes" in Xcode, Cmd+LT didn't work. How can I get Cmd + Less Than to work again? Mac OS X Mount Lion 10.8.2 Xcode 4.5.2 I have less than 10 reputation on superuser (acutally first post here), so I can't post the answer to my question. Would yo be so kind and upvote this question, so I can officially answer the question? The question, as well as the answer is only correct, if you use German keyboard layout.

  After upgrading to Lion, all my virtualhosts stopped working. They redirect to "It works" main apache page on my device for some weird reason. • Single device that can work as tablet and as desktop PC

  I have a macbook pro and an iPad 2. I tried to use iPad 2 for work when I am out of the office but this is not very comfortable since one has to sync documents, not all Os X Lion apps exist for iPad 2 and so on. I think a solution would be a single tablet device that at the office can be connected to some dock station and then I have the equivalent of my macbook, but when I am out of the office I can touch the screen and used the same applications while on the road. As far as I know the iPad 2 does not and will not allow this. Therefore I wonder if you could recommend me another hardware/tablet/etc that could work this way now as of March 2012.

• keymapping when ssh-ing from mac to linux

  I'm using Lion to ssh -X to a linux machine and work on some code thats located on it. I open up an editor on the remote machine (usually matlab) and program on it. My problem is that in the linux there is no concept of the command key. So if I want to copy some text from a local window to the editor that runs on the remote, I need to to command-c to copy, and then control-v to paste. This obviously drives me nuts. I was wondering if there is a way to change the keymapping such that the command key will be recognized as a control key on the remote processes. Or is this something I need to change on my local (mac) X configuration?
