• Turn Non-Resizeable Windows into Rezieable Windows

  Are you frustrated with Windows app windows that can not be resized at all? Now you can apply some “attitude adjustment” and resize those windows with ResizeEnable. Before Everyone is familiar with the many app windows in their Windows OS that simply can not be resized. What you need is cooperation, not attitude. For our example we chose the “Taskbar and Start Menu Properties Window”…notice the cursor in the lower right corner. No resizing satisfaction available at all… After The program comes in a zip file with three files as shown here. Once you have unzipped the program place it in an appropriate “Program Files Folder”, create a shortcut, and you are ready to go. There will be a “System Tray Icon” with only two “Context Menu” items…“About & Quit”. Here is a quick look at the “About Window” that tells you exactly what ResizeEnable does. Notice that it does state that you may occasionally have a window that may not respond correctly. Now back to our “Taskbar and Start Menu Properties Window”. Notice the resizing cursor in the lower right corner….time for some fun! During our test the “Taskbar and Start Menu Properties Window” was suddenly a dream to resize. Daring to stretch the window even further…now that is what you call “stretching” the window out in comparison to its’ original size! Think of all the windows that will be much easier to work with now… Conclusion If you have been frustrated with non-resizeable windows then ResizeEnable will certainly bring a smile to your face as you watch those windows suddenly become a lot more cooperative. This is definitely one app that is worth adding to your system. • How to reflow text in a terminal when you resize?

  I'm interested in making my gnome terminal reflow text when resizing the window, i.e., if there is a line break in a long terminal output and I resize the window the text will reflow onto onto line instead of continuing to break at the same spot. The terminal on Mac OS does this, so it is possible. But perhaps not with gnome-terminal. Does anyone know a way to accomplish this or an alternate terminal I can use on Ubuntu that supports this functionality?

• Cursor running wild, then crashes on an Asus G73sw

  The cursor sometimes goes wild, I get random clicks, the windows are resizing, the cursor disappears. In the worst case, clicks and keyboards are disabled. I've tried the solution given on doc.ubuntu-fr.org and add tu grub : i8042.nomux=1 i8042.reset=1 in GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT But it didn't work What can I do ? Graphic card : Geforce GTX460M. Ubuntu : 11.10 (64 bits). Laptop Asus G73sw Interface : Unity (since 11.10) - didn't get this problem with Gnome before. Complement: when a window is resizing, it gets drag-boxes at every corner, center of sides and center of the window. • Is there going to be Twinview ( or alternative) implemented for nouveau ?

  as I've had heavy issues with nvidia driver regarding performance of basic X window operations (window moving, resizing, scrolling). I switched to nouveau driver. But I lost the possibility of having dual screen that I had previously thanks to nvidia twinview feature... Anyway I rather have fluent X than dual screen, but having dual screen would be nice, so I'm wondering if there is already an nouveau alternative to nvidia's twinview or if it is going to be implemented.

• How to get a larger root partition on Touch

  I'm trying to make Touch (14.10) work as an Ubuntu server. However the root partition is only 2 GB and is insufficient for the packages I need to install. Is there any way to get more space on the root partition? Thus far I've tried: resize2fs on /dev/loop0 won't work since the kernel doesn't support online resizing and I can't unmount root (ro doesn't cut it, even with -f). Adding 2 GB to the end of /userdata/ubuntu.img works, but resize2fs on the file doesn't help.

• Is there a good commandline console for Windows?

  I usually develop with Ubuntu but now I'm forced to use Windows XP. It's actually pretty okay except the commandline is irritating. I miss resizing the window just with mouse but on windows I have to go inside the menus and change the width manually. Also copy pasting is hard from the console. You can only copy an area of the console, not individual lines. Is there any good alternatives for the default commandline console in windows?

• Cross Browser Issue

  My background is in WinForms programming and I'm trying to branch out a bit. I'm finding cross-browser issues a frustrating barrier in general, but have a specific one that I just can't seem to work through. I want to display an image and place a semi-transparent bar across the top and bottom. This isn't my ultimate goal, of course, but it demonstrates the problem I'm having ina a relatively short code fragment so let's go with it. The sample code below displays as intended in Chrome, Safari, and Firefox. In IE8, the bar at the bottom doesn't appear at all. I've researched it for hours but just can't seem to come up with the solution. I'm sure this is some dumb rookie mistake, but gotta start somewhere. • What is the best VM for developing WPF apps from within OS X?

  All of my machines are Macs (Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and Mac Mini (and Apple TV 2.0 too! :) ) but for my day-job, I develop .NET/WPF applications. Normally I just boot into Boot Camp and develop that way, which of course works great, but there are times when I need to simultaneously get to things on my Mac-side of the equation, so I've bought both VMware 3.1 and Parallels 6. Both work, however, even on my Mac Pro where I paid to upgrade to the better video cards (the NVidia 8600s I think vs. the stock ATI cards) the WPF performance bites!! Now this confuses me since both boast that they support not only hardware-accelerated OpenGL 2.1, but also hardware-accelerated DirectX 9 (VMware even allegedly supports DirectX 10!) via their respective virtual drivers and both can run 3D games just fine, even in a window. But even the simple act of resizing a WPF window that has a tiled background results in some HIDEOUS repainting and resizing behaviors. It's damn near closer to what you'd expect over RDP let alone a software-only renderer (forget accelerated hardware completely!) So... can anyone please tell me WTF WPF is doing differently? More importantly, how can I speed up the WPF performance? Should I switch to VirtualBox that also has support for DirectX? Or am I just gonna have to 'byte' the bullet (sorry... had to. So I like puns! Thank Jon Stewart!) and continue using Boot Camp?

• Positioning Layers and text gradients with css

  I'm a CSS newbie trying to get some text gradients going on. I tried this code here but it didn't work for me, most likely because the h1 object is nested within a #header div. I imagine there's something to do with layers that I don't know about. Either I get a gradent block that is in front of everything or it's not appearing at all. • How can I run BitchX when I don't have ssh or shell access?

  I just installed an IRC bot, B****X (Don't ask, I don't know - the real name is not censored). I did all of the configuration and chmod'ed the pl files to 755, but running it won't work. My host does not allow SSH/Shell (which is how the documentation says to runs he script), but just going to the URL usually works because of this. However, I get a 500 (Internal Server Error) error. • Problem with Tapestry palette's arrow icons in IE8

  I'm using Tapestry to create pages for a web app, and have been using the palette component to add/delete items to/from a group. The page looks great in Firefox (Tapestry seems biased towards Firefox), but my customers will all be using Internet Explorer (any versions from 6, 7, & 8) and in IE8, the disabled arrow buttons look awful. In Firefox, they are faded, using an opacity setting of 25%, but this doesn't work in IE8 and instead you get a faded image with an ugly black border around the image. In tapestry-core's stylesheet (default.css), you have the following for a disabled arrow button. DIV.t-palette-controls BUTTON[disabled] IMG { filter: alpha(opacity = 25); -moz-opacity: .25; } These are clearly out of date, as -moz-opacity is no longer supported by Firefox (use opacity: 25 instead). The problem is with filter: "alpha(opacity = 25);". If I remove this, the arrows look fine in IE8, but they are not faded. I got the magic instruction: -ms-filter:"progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Alpha(opacity=25)"; from various websites, but putting this in does not work either - the arrow icons are ugly again. The icon itself (distributed with Tapestry) just seems to be a regular PNG, but I'm not an expert on image formats, so maybe there's a problem there? Anyone else had this problem?

• Make an image transparent in IE to show non-transparent background

  Hi, I'm trying to get this thing to work in IE (any version - works in FF, Opera, Safari, Chrome ...): I have a DIV with a background-image. The DIV also contains an image that should be transparent onMouseOver. The expected behaviour now is that the DIV-background would shine through the transparent image (which it does in all browsers but IE). Instead it looks like the image is getting transparent but on a white background, I can't see the DIV's background through the image. Here's some code: <div><a href="#" class"dragItem"><img /></a></div> And some CSS: .dojoDndItemOver { cursor : pointer; filter : alpha(opacity = 50); opacity : 0.5; -moz-opacity : 0.5; -khtml-opacity : 0.5; } .dragItem:hover { filter : alpha(opacity = 30); opacity : 0.3; -moz-opacity : 0.3; -khtml-opacity : 0.3; background : none; } All of this is embedded in a Dojo Drag-n-Drop-system, so dojoDndItemOver will automatically be set to the DIV on MouseOver, dragItem is set to the href around the image (using the same class on the image directly doesn't work at all as IE doesn't support "hover" on other items that href). Any ideas? Or is it an IE-speciality to just "simulate" transparency on images by somehow just greying them out instead of providing real transparency and showing whatever is beneath?

However, in Firefox, you should be able to see what I'm after. If you're in Internet Explorer, woe betide you. Does anyone know of a technique which will allow me to produce the 'correct' effect? Is there a CSS Property which I've missed that tells webkit to only have the background within the border-radius'd part of the containing box. I could potentially use an image, but I'm really trying to avoid it. Naturally, as we're dealing with CSS3 and the landscape is continually changing, I might just have to 'lump' it and revert to an image. However, if anyone can suggest an alternative I would be very much appreciative!

• How can I run a BitchX when I don't have ssh or shell access?

  I just installed an IRC bot, B****X (Don't ask, I don't know - the real name is not censored). I did all of the configuration and chmod'ed the pl files to 755, but running it won't work. My host does not allow SSH/Shell (which is how the documentation says to runs he script), but just going to the URL usually works because of this. However, I get a 500 (Internal Server Error) error. It simply doesn't work because (as far as I can see) input and textarea are nested in the document body element that's already is not selectable. So, is it possible to enable text selection of the nested user input elements in Firefox using CSS? Thank you for suggestions.

• div content margin pushing container

  Hi, Im running into an issue that's really baffleing me. I have a container that I want to apply a background to an postion it in the top right of the browser screen. The div inside has a top margin of 4em and this is pushing the container div here is the CSS #container { background: transparent url("../images/house-bg.png") top right no-repeat scroll; } #wrapper { background: #FFF; width: 960px; height: 600px; margin: 4em auto 0; border: 10px solid #C3CF21; -moz-border-radius: 20px; -webkit-border-radius: 20px; border-radius: 20px; -moz-box-shadow: 0 0 25px #444; -webkit-box-shadow: 0 0 25px #444; box-shadow: 0 0 25px #444; } and heres the HTML <div id="container"> <div id="wrapper"> <div id="header"> </div> <div id="main"> </div> </div> <div id="footer"> &copy; Copyright <?php echo date("Y");?> Company, Inc. </div> </div> I want the margin of the wrapper to be inside the container div instead of outside. I've tried multiple display properties and position properties to no avail. There is any other way I am missing?
