  • Office 2010 Pro Plus Install Failure - Setup cannot find ProPlusr.WW\ProPrWW2.cab

    I'm attempting to install Office 2010 Pro Plus on a netbook running WWindows 7 Starter but the installer prompts for a file location: Setup cannot find ProPlusr.WW\ProPrWW2.cab. Browse to a valid installation source, and then click OK. I checked the installation files and can see that the file is present. I selected the folder and clicked OK, but the installer keeps prompting for the file. Has anyone else encountered this?

  • Installing backtrack - No Screens Found when running “startx”

    I'm installing backtrack to use for a project for my wireless networking class. I have an Acer Aspire One netbook and I'm installing from bootable USB stick. When I type "startx", it goes through the motions of giving me a bunch of text, followed by: "Fatal server error: no screens found" What gives? This is a fairly new laptop I guess, but why is this happening? How can I solve this?

  • Huawei E170 doesn't work with Windows 7

    I've got a "Huawei E170" (HSDPA broadband modem USB stick) with a driver CD for Windows XP & Vista, but now I got a netbook with Windows 7, and the driver installer won't run. I've called the telecom, but they just offered to sell me a new stick :-( Is there really no Win7 driver available for the E170 stick? Or can I trick it into installing anyway?

  • Does switching Linux distributions trash your home directory?

    I have an Ubuntu installation on my netbook and after trying it out on a bootable USB I have decided to switch to Mint Linux. If I run the Mint installer from the USB will it totally trash my home directory? Or will it be equivalent to an upgrade where the systems files that need to be replaced will change leaving the users folders as is. (Yes, I plan to backup the important files in the /home folders before hand...)

  • How to create .iso from Snow Leopard retail DVD

    I have a legal copy of Snow Leopard on DVD (retail) which I am attempting to use to create a bootable flash drive. The software I have been directed to use requests a .iso file (as I am familiar with from other os installs), but when inserting the DVD into either Windows 7 or Ubuntu 9.10 the disk is recognized only as a "Windows Support" DVD, with materials to "support Apple hardware with Windows." This is eventually intended for a hackintosh attempt on an ASUS EEEPC 1000HE netbook. This is an install disk. Thanks

  • IDE Controller Error causing BSOD?

    Hi all, So I was thinking before that a series of "SideBySide" errors were causing BSODs on my netbook (Samsung N120 + 2GB RAM). But I think it is an "atapi" error which says: "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort0." Has anyone else had this error and is there a fix for it? Also, I had other "atapi" errors before it saying: "The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not respond within the timeout period."

  • windows 7 logging off standard users

    I've a Windows 7 installation with 2 users, one administrator and the other is not. If I try to logon with the standard user it show the Welcome Screen and them logoff immediately. If I logon with the administrator user or if I set the standard used as an administrator it works without problems. Any idea? Windows 7 Ultimate running on a netbook, AVG Antivirus, no special software or any other specific configuration. Regards Massimo

    I used truecrypted V.6.3a to partially encrypted (5gb) on my 16gb usb flashdrive on my XP netbook and eveything was fine. However, I don't see the ecrypted partial (5gb) when stick the usb into windows 7-32 bits (desktop). Tried to re-encrypted the usb on windows 7 (desktop) but results are the same. Recently I managed to install Opera Mini on the XP and the opera approach of compressing the data helped a lot.     Problem setting up wireless connection on my new ACER Netbook using Win 7 Starter. Works fine with LAN cable from NETGEAR WGT624V3 router with updated firmware. The NETGEAR does not see the ACER, but does see my XP Laptop. I'm also running a wireless, BlueRay DVD. When I run getmac I get hardware not pesent, my mac address, Hardware not present. Is there a switch that needs to be set?

Right now, the only thing in my way is the fact that the tab bar can't be moved like the navigation bar or the bookmarks toolbar.
