• DLL/TLB in Java<->DCOM communication

  I have to write an OpenOffice add-on (in Java) which communicates with DCOM server of some closed-source application. The major problem is that, I don't have any documentation about server's Interfaces . All I have is a VB/C++ SDK kit for the Application. SDK contain a library in dll and a bunch of *.tlb files. In SDK documentation there is an information, I can use java, but there is no example at all. I have read provided examples and it looks like all the communication wit DCOM goes through this dll. Is there a way to somehow import such dll/tlb functions def directly to java, bypass dll and comunicate with DCOM or I have to write a C++ wrapper(dll)? What is the best way to do it? Any hints are welcomed.

• generic async loading method for page web scripts?

  The google analytics code went to an async load model some time back. I've noticed that a lot of the other scripts I use on many sites are causing slow load times - specifically the addthis script and the facebook like button. I'm noticing that the slow load times of these scripts is causing the google bot to calc my page loadtimes as being much slower than previously. I'd like to know if there is a standard/generic way of causing these scripts to load async as well, or perhaps a pointer to someone who has done the work for this already. Seems this would be a popular thing to do, but not much luck searching around.

• How do I diff two spreadsheets?

  We have a lot of spreadsheets (xls) in our subversion repository. These are usually edited with gnumeric or openoffice.org, and are mostly used to populate databases for unit testing with dbUnit. There are no easy ways of doing diffs on xls files that I know of, and this makes merging extremely tedious and error prone. I've found Spreadsheet Compare, but it requires Excel 2000 or later. I've also tried to convert the spreadsheets to xml and doing a regular diff, but it really feels as a last resort. Are there any tools for diffing two spreadsheets (xls or ods)? I am primarily looking for a multi-platform/open source tool.

• Can not start an desktop application in C#'s Process

  I try to pragrammatically run applications such as notepad.exe and Calc.exe with the following codes. I can see the application is activated in Process Exprorer but the application UI does not appear on the screen. I got this info inside the process p - "Process must exit before requested information can be determined" and the exitcode are 1200, 5084, etc. What is wrong? Thanks!   Hello, I am trying to figure out a way to calculate the year of birth for records when given the age to two decimals at a given date - in Perl. To illustrate this example consider these two records: date, age at date 25 Nov 2005, 74.23 21 Jan 2007, 75.38 What I want to do is get the year of birth based on those records - it should be, in theory, consistent. The problem is that when I try to derive it by calculating the difference between the year in the date field minus the age, I run into rounding errors making the results look wrong while they are in fact correct. I have tried using some "clever" combination of int() or sprintf() to round things up but to not avail. I have looked at Date::Calc but cant see something I can use. p.s. As many dates are pre-1970, I cannot not unfortunately use UNIX epoch for this.

  I am looking at a possibility to change my ASP.NET 2.0 app to Mono framework. I have used the mono analyzer tool and it does detect some p/invoke and interop dependencies. For ex. 1) We use excel interops and on linux we are looking to use staroffice/Openoffice instead. Is there an easy way of substituting excel with staroffice? (I know it sounds bizarre, but just don't want to miss out in case anyone has done it already.) 2) LDAP auth: What could be the best alternative in Ubuntu (or an other flavour of Linux) ? 3) Is there an ajax framework for mono? Preferably with similar controls as Atlas?? I hope I am not too ambitious here.. thanks.

• internet explorer, google chrome injection

  I wrote code that injects a function in Internet Explorer/Chrome but it doesn't work with these processes. Basically, it fills one big structure with all the APIs my function needs, strings, and other data, then it opens a process to get a handle, virtualallocex to allocate enough memory to store a function and structure there, and it writes the function and the structure in allocated memory. It then runs createremotethread there with the function as a starting address and structure as parameter. It works all great with calc/notepad/winamp processes but I have problems with browser injection. • Different results coming out of an init method than those expected. Why does this happen and how can

  When I run this method the two properties I have are set to (NULL) when I try and access them outside of the if statement. • Google App Engine - Document Editor Creation/Tap Into Google Docs?

  What is the best way to create a custom document editor in GAE? I'm making a website meant for a School Robotics Club (With support for any other organization - DRY). We currently use Google services for online collaboration, I'm wondering if there is a way to tap into Google Docs and allow users to edit a Google Document without using Google Accounts or the Google Doc interface. If that is not possible (I've researched and I don't think it is), what is the best way to make a document editor? I want it completely on the website I'm creating, so I'm assuming just some javascript editor like TinyMCE + Ajax + Datastore. Is their anything that replicates Google Doc's/Microsoft Offices's/OpenOffice.org's feature set as far as fonts, spacing, alignment, justification, etc.?

• Accommodating null values in a list?

  Hi, I'm new to Java and Groovy and am running into trouble with the following Groovy script. I created this whittled down version of a larger script to facilitate debugging. The script is iterating through a list trying to calc a running total of the values of all objects in the list. Some or all of these objects' values may be null. • How to handle inputs in a C shell program during exec

When executing commands like vi or calc which require input from the terminal , the command is getting executed and is waiting for the input from the user. But I am unable to give any input on the screen. How should the input be handled during the fork and exec. • Problems opening large csv file

  I have a csv file that is 100mb in size. I need to parse some data out of it into a new format. I tried PHP, but keep running into memory issues. After around the first 150 "rows" or so, the script poops out. This is even on the localhost, and doing everything I can to tune the PHP settings, including max_memory and script_execution_time. Now before I continue, I'd like to know if Python will poop out on me too. Or if I will have to use C++. Can someone name good csv libraries for for these programmin langueage? The file is quoted csv. I mean scheiza I can't even open this text file in OpenOffice without it dying on me. (then again, Java sux as bad as PHP)

• Stand-alone app to enter records through forms?

  Hello I need to find a stand-alone (ie. no OpenOffice-based tools, for instance) Windows application that can present users with forms to enter records into an SQLite database. The goal is to migrate data from Excel sheets into a serverless, single-user database like SQLite. As a bonus, the application would also have a somewhat-protected admin section so that I can also use it to CRUD data with the same app, but it's not a requirement. • Access Windows Home Server from an Ubuntu Computer on your Network

  If you’re a Windows Home Server user, there may be times when you need to access it from an Ubuntu machine on your network. Today we take a look at the process of accessing files on your home server from Ubuntu. Note: In this example we’re using Windows Home Server with PowerPack 3, and Ubuntu 10.04 running on a home network. Access WHS from Ubuntu To access files on your home server from Ubuntu, click on Places then select Network. You should now see your home server listed in the Network folder as well as other Windows machines…double-click the server to access it. If you don’t see your server listed, you might need to go into Windows Network \ Workgroup and find it there. You’ll be prompted to enter in the correct credentials for WHS just as you would when accessing it from a Windows machine. It’s your choice if you want to have the password remembered or not…make your selection and click Connect. Now you will see the available folders on your home server. In this example we signed in with Administrator credentials, so we have access to everything. Double-click on the folder share you want to access content from…here we see MS Office documents on the server. Or, here we take a look at a music folder with various MP3 files which you can make Ubuntu play. You can access the files directly from the server, provided there is a Linux app that can handle the file type. In this example we opened a Word document in OpenOffice. Here we’re playing an MKV movie file from the server in Totem Movie Player.   You can easily search for files on the server as well… If you want to store your Ubuntu files on WHS it’s just a matter of dragging them to the correct WHS folder you want them in. If you’re using an Ubuntu computer on your home network and need to access files from Windows Home Server, luckily it’s a straight-forward process. You’ll often have to find the correct software to use Windows files, but even that’s getting much easier with version 10.04.   How to make application for wifi triangulation using android platform? This project will be implemented inside the building. No GPS needed. Just using wifi only and doing triangulation to get the current position of the user inside the building. I got minimum 3 access point to implement it. But how to start code in android and integrate triangulation inside android coding? I got the algorithm to do it.. but is there any chance that I can get it done? • Spreadsheet RDBMS

  I'm looking for a software (or set of software) that will let me combine spreadsheet and database workflows. Data entry in spreadsheet to enable simple entry from clipboard, analysis based on joins, unions and aggregates and pivot/data pilot summaries. So far I've only found either spreadsheets OR db applications but no good combination. OO base with calc for tables doesn't support aggregates f.ex. Google Spreadsheet + Visualizaion API doesn't support unions or joins, zoho db doesn't let me paste from clipboard. Any hints on software that could be used? Basically I'm trying to do some analysis of my personal bank transactions. Problem 1, ETL. The data has to be moved from my bank to a database. My current solution is to manually copy and paste the data into one spread sheet per account from my internet bank. Pains: Not very scriptable. Lots of scrolling to reach the point to paste. Have to apply sorting and formatting to the pasted data each time. Problem 2, analysis. I then want to aggregate the different accounts in one sweep to track transfers per type of transfer over all accounts. The actual aggregation is still unsolved because I can't find a UNION equivalent in the spreadsheets I've tried.
