  • Does iPhone support "greying out" inactive controls?

    - by iter
I have a control that goes inactive under some conditions in my iPhone app. I can [setUserInteractionEnabled: NO] on it and it doesn't respond to touches. Its appearance does not change however. Other environments I am familiar with "grey out" inactive controls. I wonder what is the idiomatic way to hint to the user that the control is inactive.

  • How can i monitor syslog messages in c# console app with TCP

    - by djerry
Heya, In my application, i need to monitor all messages sent by syslog. I've tried with UDP, but after one message, i didn't respond anymore (no error, just no heads up anymore). And setting up a tcp server isn't really the solution either i think. Can anyone guide me to a solution where i can log messages form syslog with tcp (normally on port 514). Thanks in advance.

  • C#.NET Socket Programming: Connecting to remote computers.

    - by Gio Borje
    I have a typical server in my end and a friend using a client to connect to my IP/Port and he consistently receives the exception: "A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond {MY_IP}:{MY_PORT}"—You don't need to know my IP. The client and server, however, work fine on the loopback address (127.0.0.1). I also do not have any firewall nor is windows firewall active. Server: static void Main(string[] args) { Console.Title = "Socket Server"; Console.WriteLine("Listening for messages..."); Socket serverSock = new Socket( AddressFamily.InterNetwork, SocketType.Stream, ProtocolType.Tcp); IPAddress serverIP = IPAddress.Any; IPEndPoint serverEP = new IPEndPoint(serverIP, 33367); SocketPermission perm = new SocketPermission(NetworkAccess.Accept, TransportType.Tcp, "98.112.235.18", 33367); serverSock.Bind(serverEP); serverSock.Listen(10); while (true) { Socket connection = serverSock.Accept(); Byte[] serverBuffer = new Byte[8]; String message = String.Empty; while (connection.Available > 0) { int bytes = connection.Receive( serverBuffer, serverBuffer.Length, 0); message += Encoding.UTF8.GetString( serverBuffer, 0, bytes); } Console.WriteLine(message); connection.Close(); } } Client: static void Main(string[] args) { // Design the client a bit Console.Title = "Socket Client"; Console.Write("Enter the IP of the server: "); IPAddress clientIP = IPAddress.Parse(Console.ReadLine()); String message = String.Empty; while (true) { Console.Write("Enter the message to send: "); // The messsage to send message = Console.ReadLine(); IPEndPoint clientEP = new IPEndPoint(clientIP, 33367); // Setup the socket Socket clientSock = new Socket( AddressFamily.InterNetwork, SocketType.Stream, ProtocolType.Tcp); // Attempt to establish a connection to the server Console.Write("Establishing connection to the server... "); try { clientSock.Connect(clientEP); // Send the message clientSock.Send(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(message)); clientSock.Shutdown(SocketShutdown.Both); clientSock.Close(); Console.Write("Message sent successfully.\n\n"); } catch (Exception ex) { Console.WriteLine(ex.Message); } } }

  • Worst security hole you've seen?

    - by Si
Subject says it all, probably a good idea to keep details basic to protect the guilty. FWIW, here's a question about what to do if you find a security hole, and another with some useful answers if a company doesn't (seem to) respond.

  • Short survey on Enterprise JavaBeans usage

    - by Thomas Harris
Hello, I would be very appreciative if anyone who has any experience with using Enterprise JavaBeans, or who considered, but rejected the use of EJBs would respond to a short survey. The survey consists of eleven (11) questions, and should take five (5) minutes or less to complete. I am collecting this data for a class that I am taking. The URL for the survey is http://cs.createsurvey.com/c/89/9089/survey/11793-UCyRqE.html Thank you very much in advance for your participation! Regards, Tom Harris

  • Implementing database redundancy with sharded tables

    - by ensnare
We're looking to implement load balancing by horizontally sharding our tables across a cluster of servers. What are some options to implement live redundancy should a server fail? Would it be effective to do (2) INSERTS instead of one ... one to the target shard, and another to a secondary shard which could be accessed should the primary shard not respond? Or is there a better way? Thanks.

  • sql - datetime variable versus string representation of datetime variable

    - by BhejaFry
Hi folks, I have a query that takes too long to respond when the search parameter happens to be a varchar datatype with date. However, if i convert varchar to datetime variable, the query runs fine. For ex: This takes too long. select count(id) from names where updateddate '1/5/2010' This runs fine. declare @dateparam datetime set @dateparam = convert(datetime, '1/5/2010',102) select count(id) from names where updateddate @dateparam What's the reason one runs fine but the other doesn't? TIA

  • Why is TortoiseSVN so slow?

    - by Zack Peterson
I'm using TortoiseSVN to connect to my Subversion repository hosted with CVSDude. It's unreasonably slow--especially on small transfers... 5 kBytes transferred in 5 minute(s) and 9 second(s)?! It's not just slow to respond, though. It bogs the computer down for 5 minutes while processing those 5 kilobytes. Could there possibly be anything wrong with my installation or settings? Or, is the blame purely with my Subversion host, CVSDude?

  • How to get cursor to follow text when reading a web page?

    - by Jack BeNimble
I know this isn't strictly program related, but I think I've seen this answer on SO before and lost track of it. The specific question has to do with reading an electronic document. I find it helpful to move the cursor across the words as I'm reading them. This works great with Word documents, but I'm unable to do it with web pages. Is there a way to make a web page see and respond to cursor movement?

  • Stupid Actionscript 3.0 question: Keypress AND click for a function?

    - by tara
I know how to make the mouse event work. I know how to make the keypress event work. Now what I can't figure out is how to make one button respond to both keypress and/or mousevent. In other words, a button that you can click or press "enter" for it to work. This seems really basic but on googling all I can find is basic "how to do a keypress" stuff.

  • safari 5 resize flash application

    - by dome
Just notice that after updating to Safari 5 (mac) all the flash applications that respond to resize events got sluggish. try: http://www.tutorio.com/media/flash/liquid-demo.html this works great with firefox 3.6.3, Chrome can deal with it fine, although not so fast as Firefox, but new Safari gives a awful experience, distorting all content if you do fast resizing. Any ideas why is this happening / and how can I get a better performance with safari browsers?

  • Tell jQuery to ignore clicks during an animation sequence

    - by dclowd9901
I'm in the midst of writing a slideShow app (click a button, and you slide through a list of images) for jQuery, but I've run into a little bug where it will respond to the click() request even while an animation is happening. I'm using the animate() function already, so that isn't staving off the additional animation requests. Any way to program around this?

  • WCF Duplex Interaction with Web Server

    - by Mark Struzinski
Here is my scenario, and it is causing us a considerable amount of grief at the moment: We have a vendor web service which provides base level telephony functionality. This service has a SOAP api, which we are leveraging to build up a custom UI that is integrated into our in house web apps. The api functions on 2 levels. You make standard client calls into the service to initiate actions, such as Login, Place Call, Hang Up, etc. On a different thread, the service sends events back to the client to alert the user of things that are occurring on the system (agent successfully logged in, call was disconnected, etc). I implemented a WCF service to sit between the web server and the vendor service. This WCF service operates in duplex mode, establishing a 2 way connection with the web server. The web server makes outbound calls to the WCF service, which routes them to the vendor's web service. Events are received back to the WCF service, which passes them onto the web server via a callback channel on the WCF client. As events are received on the web server, they are placed into a hash table with the user's name as the key, and a .NET queue as the value to hold the event. Each event is enqueued to the agent who owns it. On a 2 second interval, the web page polls the web server via an ajax request to get new events for the logged in user. It hits the hash table for the user key, dequeues any events that are present, and serializes them back up to the web page. From there, they are processed in order and appropriate messages are displayed to the user. This implementation performs well in a single user scenario. The second I put more than 1 user on the system, I start getting frequent timeouts with the following CommunicationException: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond We are running Windows Server 2008 R2 both servers. Both the web app and WCF service are running on .NET 3.5. The WCF service is running under the net.tcp protocol in duplex mode. The web app is ASP.NET MVC 2. Has anyone dealt with anything like this scenario? Is there a more efficient way (or a widely accepted pattern) to implement this?

  • Comet and [Session] TimeOut

    - by Amitd
hi guys, Just Wondering how [session] timeouts are(or can be) implemented when using Comet? I'm using Long polling Comet solution and want to implement a kind of Timeout feature. Example : If the user is on a comet enabled page and doesn't respond to server events/notification for a period of time say 10 mins then invalidate his session and remove his request from server and redirect the user to a timeout page? Will this require Javascript XHR requests to check for a timeout explictly? Using ASP.NET 3.5 / C# Thanks
