• Correct nvidia+intel graphics setup in 14.04

  Just upgraded to 14.04 to try to fix some other issues. Now, something has gone wrong with my graphics. • Proper policy for user setup

  I am still fairly new to linux hosting and am currently working on some policies for our production ubuntu servers. The servers are public facing webservers with ssh access from the public network and database servers with ssh access from the internal private network. We are a small hosting company so in the past with windows servers we used one user account and one password that each of us used internally. Anyone outside of the company who needed to access the server for FTP or anything else had their own user account. Is that okay to do in the linux world, or would most people recommend using individual accounts for each person who needs to access the server?

• OpenGL setup on Windows

  I have been trying to use OpenGL for two days now. First on Mac, then on Windows. The problem with Mac is that it doesn't support the newer versions of OpenGL. I ran a tutorial that actually did get some things working, but it only works in XCode (i.e., I can't create a new file, paste in the same code, and get it to work). Because of these issues, I moved to Windows. My Windows 7 has OpenGL 4.3, which is the same that is used in alot of other tutorials. However, not one of these tutorials gives any instruction on how to set it up for the first time. I have come across some vague posts saying that some libraries need to be linked. But WHAT libraries, and HOW do I link them? Please help. I am pretty desperate to set this up as this project is due for work soon. I have actually used OpenGL before at my university, but the computers already had everything set up. The project itself is very easy, but setting up OpenGL is not something I know how to do.

• Unable to configure/setup 5.1 audio with 12.04

  I am kinda new to Ubuntu as well. I have been having this issue with audio for quite sometime now. Initially, when I installed version 11.10 (I guess), I was able to use my 5.1 speakers without any issues. If my memory serves me right, it was after an update that the 5.1 audio stopped working and the video resolution would not get saved. I temporarily fixed the resolution issue by creating a start-up shell script that would update the resolution and load it. But the issue with audio has been going on for quite sometime now. Even though I have option for 5.1, only two speakers seem to be working. I thought an upgrade should fix the issue and so upgraded the OS to version 12.04. I also tried uninstalling alsa and pulse audio, reinstalling them, changing the /etc/pulse/daemon.conf channels from 2 to 6. I have also tried installing pavucontrol but nothing seems to have worked and the issue still persists. Is there anything else you could suggest?   Does anyone know what configuration file is modified when I change settings within this area of the system settings? I keep choosing my Logitech USB Headset as the soundard, and, when I hit apply, it accepts that change and all is good. However, as soon as I close the system settings window, it loses the setting, so I have to leave it open all the time. How can I make this setting permanent? Thanks for any assistance. I'm actually running Kubuntu 11.10.

• openGL Camera setup for Zoom in/out centered at point under cursor

  I am trying to implement a zoom in/out navigation mode in a openGL 3dViewer. I was able to implement zoom functionality centered at screen center just by moving eye towards the center in perspective mode. Now i am trying to do the zoom centered at arbitrary position under the cursor. I am unable to figure out how should i move my camera forward and backward such that point under cursor remains at the same screen coordinates after zoom in/out. Any help would be appreciated. Below are the images which show the desired effect. Just to mention, I am working in a perspective mode with eye target and up vectors to control camera. Same effect i found in google sketchup and 'zoom to mouse position' setting in blender.

• iOS build machine setup: problem with certificates

  some background: work with multiple team mates each work on our own MBP I'm setting a build machine that we can git push to in order to generate a build (aim to allow anyone to push to the build machine and then generate an archive, upload to testflight and send on its way) problem: getting my apple developer certificates on the build machine. I installed Lion, XCode, etc and I signed into my developer account through Xcode organizer, provisioning profiles download,etc. but beside each one it says: valid signing identity not found I also download my certificate from the developer.apple.com page, imported it into keychain, etc but no luck. Anyone else have a similar issue? Or maybe hints to fix? Thanks

• Hyper-V Manager version 6.2, an experience in virtual switch setup

  The version number of Hyper-V manager is 6.2.9200.16384   This is what came with my Windows 8 work laptop (by enabling Windows features) The blogs I read indicated that I need an external switch for my guest OS to access internet, and an internal one for them to share folder with my Host OS.  I proceeded to create an external virtual switch, and here is the screenshot. After setting up the network adapters on the guest OS, I peeked into host OS networking, and saw that Network Bridge was already created.  GREAT!  So I fired up my guest OS and darn, no internet.  Then I noticed that my host internet was gone, too.  I looked further and found that even though I have a network bridge, no connection has the status "Bridged"Once I removed the bridge (by removing individual connection from the bridge, I know, weird, since none of them say "Bridged" in status)  I re-selected the connection that I want and add them to the bridge to create a new network bridge.  Once my wireless connection status shows "Bridged", I was able to get to internet from my guest OS.Two things I noticed after I got internet for everyone ( my host and guest OS):My network adapters in the host OS no longer shows "Bridged", but everyone can still get to the internetThe virtual switch that I set up for "External" is now showing to be "Internal", and I was able to create shared folder between host and guest OS.  This means I didn't have to create the other "Internal" virtual switch.

I open Terminal. I run the following 2 commands javac java -version both commands are working fine. now I want to set-up Java-Home and Path for all users at same place.because everyone is working on Application server. • LAMP setup - phpmyadmin says the mysqli extension is missing (but its listed in phpinfo)

  I regularly set up virtualbox ubuntu setups to run as local webservers. I have set these up several times and never had an issue. Recently I have been cloning them but wanted to do a fresh install this time in the hopes of fixing some niggling problems which have propagated through my setups. However, something has changed: 1)vb guest additions no longer allow me to copy and paste (i'll worry about that later) 2)more importantly phpmyadmin no longer works as installed - Initially going to localhost/phpmyadmin gave a message that the page could not be found. So I have followed some instructions (sorry I know its vague I cant find them now) which have created a phpmyadmin directory in /var/www but now I get an error saying: the mysqli extension is missing. If I run phpinfo mysql and mysqli are listed. All I have done so far is install apache2 (working) install php5 (which I think used to come with apache) Install mysql server (and client for good measure) and install phpmyadmin I found a post of a similar question which suggested I should install php5-mysql (done) and edit php.ini and uncomment the line extension-mysqli.so - this is not there, so I tried adding it with no joy. I have restarted apache and still no joy on phpmyadmin. Any help is much appreciated as this is driving me nuts. Why the change for the worse - I was just starting to like linux! I'm running a windows 7 machine and the guest os is ubuntu 12.04 - I ran apt-get update before doing anything so all packages should be the latest versions.

I have tried proxydriver that should do that automatically, but it works partially. The browser says that I have the IP of the VPN, but when I tried to send an eMail over SMTP (Port 25), I can´t connect to the mail server. The way I have been exploring it is with a NodeJS/Express/Angular/Passport/MongoDB stack - I have also implemented Socket.io. I have gotten to the point where I am sending data from the flash game to the server (NodeJS). The only data that needs to be sent is basic user information, the players score at the end of each game, and some x,y positions for each players game (for anti-cheating). It seems like MySQL would work fine, but as I am already using MongoDB - are there any major drawbacks to continuing to work with MongoDB on this project?

In the cpanel, I selected nautilus for accessing web-disk and I was given a note: Note: In order for the Web Disk to work, you will need to allow port 2078 (SSL) or 2077 (non-SSL) on your computer's firewall. As, I am unable to connect to this, i.e. on entering the given url in Nautilus address bar, it says 'Connection closed'. So, I believe the above this quoted is not correctly configured. • trying to setup multiple primary partitions on ubuntu linux

  I currently have ubuntu desktop installed on a harddrive. I want to partition the harddrive so that I can reserve 30 gigs for ubuntu server and 30 gigs for ubuntu desktop. The drive has 300 gigs available. Right now I am booting from dvd drive and installing ubuntu server. I selected "Guided partitioning" and created a 30 gig primary partition of Ext4 journaling filesystem, set "yes, format it" for format partition and set bootable flag to on. I intend to use this 30 gig partition to hold ubuntu server and allow me to boot from it. Now I have two other partitions. They are both set to "logical", one is currently using 285.8 gigs and is using ext4 (when I try to set bootable flag to true, it gives a warning "You are trying to set the bootable flag on a logical partition. The bootable flag is only useful on the primary partitions"). More alarming it says "No existing file system was detected in this partition". Actually, Im thinking that this is the parittion that is supposed to be holding my current Ubuntu Desktop. And of course I want this to be bootable and be a primary partition, so I could dual boot from this and the server partition. Now the third partition is also set to logical and it is being used as swap area. My question is regarding that second partition. Its supposed to be a primary partition thats holding my existing ubuntu desktop edition. How do I switch it to primary and to make sure that its pointing to my existing desktop installation?

  I own a domain, let's call it mydomain.com. I need to host the following off it: forums.mydomain.com www.mydomain.com blog.mydomain.com objects.mydomain.com I believe I can get 5 static IPs. I plan on assigning one each to those four hosts. Then I need to adhoc create names, all below objects.mydomain.com. For instance: one.objects.mydomain.com two.objects.mydomain.com three.objects.mydomain.com I need to create these names programatically, and without human intervention. Preferably, they would not get their own IPs. They would use the IP of objects.mydomain.com. First question: Does this mean that I need to host my own DNS? Second question: I'm using Apache as a web server. What does the virtual host configuration look like?
