How do you setup IIS/Windows Server 2008 to handle balancing the requests between the 2 servers? What is the best way to sync deployments so we only have to deploy to 1 place. Can we just have them sync their structures or do we have to use a NAS/Network Share?

  • Cisco ASA 5505 VPN setup

    Hello, I'm trying to setup a site to site VPN, with a Cisco ASA 5505 at one end. The documentation tells me to use the Ipsec VPN wizard but under the wizards drop down menu there's nothing VPN related there. I have a 'base' license, is that the issue? or am I being stupid? The versions I have are: Cisco Asa 5505 with ASA 8.2(1) and ASDM 6.2(1), the firewall was already setup when I got it (I'm leasing a dedicated server). Thanks for your help

  • High I/O latency with software RAID, LUKS encrypted and LVM partitioned KVM setup

    I found out a performance problems with a Mumble server, which I described in a previous question are caused by an I/O latency problem of unknown origin. As I have no idea what is causing this and how to further debug it, I'm asking for your ideas on the topic. I'm running a Hetzner EX4S root server as KVM hypervisor. The server is running Debian Wheezy Beta 4 and KVM virtualisation is utilized through LibVirt. The server has two different 3TB hard drives as one of the hard drives was replaced after S.M.A.R.T. errors were reported. The first hard disk is a Seagate Barracuda XT ST33000651AS (512 bytes logical, 4096 bytes physical sector size), the other one a Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 (AF) ST3000DM001-9YN166 (512 bytes logical and physical sector size). There are two Linux software RAID1 devices. One for the unencrypted boot partition and one as container for the encrypted rest, using both hard drives. Inside the latter RAID device lies an AES encrypted LUKS container. Inside the LUKS container there is a LVM physical volume. The hypervisor's VFS is split on three logical volumes on the described LVM physical volume: one for /, one for /home and one for swap. Here is a diagram of the block device configuration stack: sda (Physical HDD) - md0 (RAID1) - md1 (RAID1) sdb (Physical HDD) - md0 (RAID1) - md1 (RAID1) md0 (Boot RAID) - ext4 (/boot) md1 (Data RAID) - LUKS container - LVM Physical volume - LVM volume hypervisor-root - LVM volume hypervisor-home - LVM volume hypervisor-swap - … (Virtual machine volumes) The guest systems (virtual machines) are mostly running Debian Wheezy Beta 4 too. We have one additional Ubuntu Precise instance. They get their block devices from the LVM physical volume, too. The volumes are accessed through Virtio drivers in native writethrough mode. The IO scheduler (elevator) on both the hypervisor and the guest system is set to deadline instead of the default cfs as that happened to be the most performant setup according to our bonnie++ test series. The I/O latency problem is experienced not only inside the guest systems but is also affecting services running on the hypervisor system itself. The setup seems complex, but I'm sure that not the basic structure causes the latency problems, as my previous server ran four years with almost the same basic setup, without any of the performance problems. On the old setup the following things were different: Debian Lenny was the OS for both hypervisor and almost all guests Xen software virtualisation (therefore no Virtio, also) no LibVirt management Different hard drives, each 1.5TB in size (one of them was a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS, the other one I can't tell anymore) We had no IPv6 connectivity Neither in the hypervisor nor in guests we had noticable I/O latency problems According the the datasheets, the current hard drives and the one of the old machine have an average latency of 4.12ms.

    Hey, I'm not a hardware person, so maybe someone here could help me. I ordered a PC from Dell that has "Serial ATA Raid 0 "Stripe"(7200RPM)Dual HDD" (2x500gb). However, I've just noticed that there's only one HD of 1TB (which is the default option when ordering). Should I be seeing two HDDs in "My Computer" or does the Raid0 setup simply improve performance rather than have (and display) two individual HDDs? How can I check if my computer does have a 'raid0' setup? Thanks

  • Optimal disk partitions for database setup (15 Drives)

    We are setting up a new database system and have 15 drives to play with (+2 on-board for the OS). With a total of 15 drives would it be better to setup all 14 as one RAID-10 block (+1 hot spare) OR split into two RAID-10 sets one for Data (8 disks) and one for logs/backups (6 disks). My question boils down to the following: is there a specific point where having more drives in a RAID-10 setup will out preform having the drives broken into smaller RAID-10 sets.

  • CFBundleDocumentTypes and iPad camera connection kit (SD reader)

    I am trying to register a custom document type in an iPad app, with the hopes that I can be prompted to work with files on an SD card attached to the iPad through the camera connection kit. Does anyone know if this is currently possible (or even for sure if it's not possible)? I was hoping that the Camera tab in Photos would use a document interaction controller for types it did not understand, but it seems like Photos does not check for alternate handlers at all - I tried also registering support for the jpg type but was not prompted when using photos and loading in JPG images from an SD card. There is an SD reader app called Zoomit that appears to read many different types from an SD card: http://currentphotographer.com/zoomit-application-enabled-sd-card-reader-for-the-iphone/ But it seems that involves custom hardware, that differs from the standard SD reader.

  • iPhone In-App Purchase Store Kit error -1003 "Cannot connect to iTunes Store"

    Hi all- I've been working on adding in-app purchases and was able to create and test in-app purchases using Store Kit (yay!). During testing, I exercised my app in a way which caused the app to crash mid purchase (so I guess the normal cycle of receiving paymentQueue:updatedTransactions and calling finishTransaction was interrupted). Now I am unable to successfully complete any transactions and instead am getting only transactions with transactionState SKPaymentTransactionStateFailed when paymentQueue:updatedTransactions is called. The transaction.error.code is -1003 and the transaction.error.localizedDescription is "Cannot connect to iTunes Store"! I have tried removing all products from iTunesConnect, and rebuilt them using different identifiers but that did not help. I have also tried using the App Store app to really connect to the real App Store and download some apps so I do have connectivity. Finally, I have visited the Settings:Store app to make sure I am signed out of my normal app store account. Any ideas? -Rei

    Hi all, I've written some code using the REST starter kit and it works fine on my development machine. However, when I upload it to our server the page gives me the following error message... CS1684: Warning as Error: Reference to type 'System.Runtime.Serialization.Json.DataContractJsonSerializer' claims it is defined in 'c:\WINNT\assembly\GAC_MSIL\System.ServiceModel.Web\3.5.0.0__31bf3856ad364e35\System.ServiceModel.Web.dll', but it could not be found I've removed code line by line and it appears that the following line of code is triggering the error... HttpContent newOrganizationContent = HttpContentExtensions.CreateXmlSerializable(newOrganizationXml); Really haven't got a clue how to fix it. I assumed it might be because it needs a newer version of the framework to run, but looking in IIS it says it's running version 2.0.50727 which I think is the lates version because it says that even when we're using framework 3.5 Very confused, any ideas?     I'm a first year Computer Science student looking to get started with development for micro-controllers. I'd like to use the 8051, as it's common as dirt, and is used frequently in the real world. During my junior or senior year, I'll be taking a PIC micro-controller based embedded design class, so I'd rather not do PIC now; otherwise, I'll be fairly bored during that course. Most commercial kits I see are for the AVR or PIC series of microprocessors. I'm just looking for something with decent development tools, documentation, and enough add-ons to keep my novice self occupied for the summer. Any recommendations for an 8051 family kit? Thanks!

  • Install the proper bitness Visual C++ Runtime Library via a Setup project

    Hi all! The context: I have a solution that contains amongh other C# projects, a VC++ project that suports compiling only as x64 or Win32 (but not Any CPU). In order for the application (which in fact is a macro for a third party application) to run, it requires Visual C++ Runtime libraries (x86) or (x64) (The macro will run on both x64 and x86 operating systems.) The problem: I want to create a Visual Studio setup project that would install the macro on both x86 and x64 operating systems, and the problem I have is to specify what Visual C++ Runtime library to use a prerequisite. If both are selected (x64 and x86) than I have a runtime error message when running the setup.exe, as on x86 operating systems you cannot run x64 executables like the Visual C++ Runtime libraries (x64) kit is...(which the setup calls in the back). So I would need a bitness condition, or something like that to tell the setup what bitness version of the Visual C++ Runtime library to try to install...I'm not sure if this is possible, or even where such a code should be placed in the setup.     I found this page that tells me how to set up Windows Live Sync as a background service on Windows 2003 Server, unfortunately the resource kit tools for 2003 that are mentioned does not work on 2008 server. http://mswhs.freeforums.org/windows-live-sync-as-a-service-on-whs-t623.html Also, apparently there is no resource kit tools downloadable for Windows 2008 Server that I can find. Perhaps someone has a link to the relevant tools? (INSTSRV.EXE and SRVANY.EXE.) Using just plain SC.EXE doesn't work as I assume that the program is then required to be a normal service, and not just any executable. What other options do I have? Can I use the task scheduler on 2008 server to start the WindowsLiveSync executable, will that work? I need the executable to stay running even after I've logged off from the server.

    I'm trying to build a sfx (self extracting archive) using winrar. I'm using VS2008 to build a setup.exe and a myapp.msi. If setup.exe is executed it does some checking an launches myapp.msi I'm using some sfx options to make the extraction quiet and make it extract so some temp folder: ;Der folgende Kommentar enthält SFX-Skriptbefehle Setup=setup.exe TempMode Silent=2 Overwrite=1 It seems winrar deletes the msi right after setup.exe is launched. Setup.exe can't find the msi and crashes. Is there some way to fix this?

  • DNS setup problems with Windows Azure VPS

    What is the proper to setup the A record (or CNAME) for a Windows Azure VPS? I can't connect to my website after setting up IIS and believe I don't have the correct DNS setup. I created a small VPS instance with the default Windows Server 2012 configuration. I RDP'd in and added the Webserver role. In my DNSMadeEasy control panel I added an A record with my Public Virtual IP Address. In IIS I went to the default website and added bindings for the hostname of my website, so I should be able to type mywebsite.com and see the IIS 8 splash screen, but instead my browser cannot connect. I attempted to navigate to the site by typing in my Virtual IP address into the browser and still cannot connect. I RDP'd back into the machine and turned off Windows Firewall. No change, still cannot navigate to my website. From within IIS I double checked my binding. If I click "browse *:80" I can bring up my website in IE with the http:// localhost address. If I click "browse mywebsite on *.80" IE says "This page cannot be displayed.", from within the RDP session I can view the site if I navigate to http:// 127.0.0.1 but not if I navigate to my Virtual IP, nor can I view the page if I try navigating to http:// mywebservername.cloudapp.net I'm thinking I must be fundamentally not understanding how do DNS setup with Azure VPS but my initial Google searches aren't turning up any helpful information. (spaces added after the http:// so serverfault doesn't try and render them as valid urls.)

  • How to setup equivalent USVIDEO.ORG DNS-Proxy on Linux

    I have a VPS in the USA running Ubuntu. I want to setup something similar to http://www.usvideo.org Basically, USVIDEO is a DNS service that allows Canadians to access American content like Hulu, Netflix, NBC, and etc (restricted by geographical IP). Here is how I think USVideo does it: Clients (PS3, XBOX, PC) specifies the DNS server(s) as specified on USVIDEO.org's website. If the DNS request is a video/audio site such as Netflix or Pandora, forward the request to a proxy. Otherwise, for all other requests, forward it to a different DNS server. If the specific video/audio URL is requested, return the address of the proxy server, which in turn relays traffic to the destination video/audio domain via the U.S. gateway so that it appears that the access is coming from a U.S. IP address. Once the DNS request has passed the U.S. IP address check, their proxy server steps out of the loop and lets the video streaming site contact you directly to start the video stream. This trick relies on the way that the video streaming sites check the country of your IP address once up front, but don't actually check the country of the destination IP address while the video is streaming. What is elegant about this solution is that a VPN Tunnel is not required to bypass geographical IP checks from certain websites. All that is required on the client side is to specify the DNS server (the VPS). If a certain site is geographically locked, just forward the traffic to a proxy, and that's it. These sites can be specified in the DNS entries, or perhaps in the proxy service to redirect the DNS request to its own proxy. I believe what I need to setup something similar is Squid Proxy, IPTables, and DNS. What I need help is how to exactly approach this? Would Squid Proxy be setup as a transparent proxy?

  • Proper Network Infastructure Setup DMZ, VPN, Routing Hardware Question

    Greetings Server Fault Universe, So here's a quick background. Two weeks ago I started a new position as the systems administrator for an expanding health services company of just over 100 persons. The individual I was replacing left the company with little to no notice. Basically, I have inherited a network of one main HQ (where I am situated) which has existed for over 10 years, with five smaller offices (less than 20 persons). I am trying to make sense of the current setup. The network at the HQ includes: Linksys RV082 Router providing internet access for employees and site to site VPN connecting the smaller offices (using an RV042 each). We have both cable and dsl lines connected to balance traffic (however this does not work at all and is not my main concern right now). Cisco Ironport appliance. This is the main gateway for our incoming and outgoing emails. This also has an external IP and internal IP. Lotus domino in and out email servers connected to the mentioned Cisco gateway. These also have an external IP and internal IP. Two windows 2003 and 2008 boxes running as domain controllers with DNS of course. These also have both an external IP and internal IP. Website and web mail servers also on both external and internal IPs. I am still confused as why there are so many servers connected directly to the internet. I am seriously looking to redesign this setup with proper security practices in mind (my highest concern) and am in need of a proper firewall setup for the external/internal servers along with a VPN solution about 50 employees. Budget is not a concern as I have been given some flexibility to purchase necessary solutions. I have been told Cisco ASA appliance may help. Does anyone out in the Server Fault Universe have some recommendations? Thank you all in advance.
