  • How to cast a pointer of memory block to std stream

    - by Shahrooz Kia
    I have programed an application on windows XP and in Visual Studio with c++ language. In that app I used LoadResource() API to load a resource for giving a file in the resource memory. It returned a pointer of memory block and I wanna cast the pointer to the std stream to use for compatibility. Could anyone help me?

  • Call c++ function pointer from c#

    - by Sam
    Is it possible to call a c(++) static function pointer like this typedef int (*MyCppFunc)(void* SomeObject); from c#? void CallFromCSharp(MyCppFunc funcptr, IntPtr param) { funcptr(param); } I need to be able to callback from c# into some old c++ classes. C++ is managed, but the classes are not ref classes (yet). So far I got no idea how to call a c++ function pointer from c#, is it possible?

  • Adaptec 6405 RAID controller turned on red LED

    - by nn4l
    I have a server with an Adaptec 6405 RAID controller and 4 disks in a RAID 5 configuration. Staff in the data center called me because they noticed a red LED was turned on in one of the drive bays. I have then checked the status using 'arcconf getconfig 1' and I got the status message 'Logical devices/Failed/Degraded: 2/0/1'. The status of the logical devices was listed as 'Rebuilding'. However, I did not get any suspicious status of the affected physical device, the S.M.A.R.T. setting was 'no', the S.M.A.R.T. warnings were '0' and also 'arcconf getsmartstatus 1' returned no problems with any of the disk drives. The 'arcconf getlogs 1 events tabular' command gives lots of output (sorry, can't paste the log file here as I only have remote console access, I could post a screenshot though). Here are some sample entries: eventtype FSA_EM_EXPANDED_EVENT grouptype FSA_EXE_SCSI_GROUP subtype FSA_EXE_SCSI_SENSE_DATA subtypecode 12 cdb 28 00 17 c4 74 00 00 02 00 00 00 00 data 70 00 06 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 0 The 'arcconf getlogs 1 device tabular' command reports mediumErrors 1 for two of the disks. Today, I have checked the status of the controller again. Everything is back to normal, the controller status is now 'Logical devices/Failed/Degraded: 2/0/0', the logical devices are also all back to 'Optimal'. I was not able to check the LED status, my guess is that the red LED is off again. Now I have a lot of questions: what is a possible cause for the medium error, why it is not reported by the SMART log too? Should I replace the disk drives? They were purchased just a month ago. The rebuilding process took one or two days, is that normal? The disks are 2 TByte each and the storage system is mostly idling. the timestamp of the logs seem to show the moment of the log retrieval, not the moment of the incident. Please advise, all help is very appreciated.

  • smartctl not actually running self tests?

    - by canzar
    I want to run the smartctl self tests to check the health of the drives in my RAID array (PERC 5/i). The array is on sda and comprises six drives. I can check the status using sudo smartctl /dev/sda -d megaraid,0 -a And I see that SMART is available and enabled on all the drives. I have tried to run self tests using sudo smartctl /dev/sda -d megaraid,0 -t short and sudo smartctl /dev/sda -d megaraid,0 -t long I have also tried it on all of the drives 0-5. No matter what I try, when I run: sudo smartctl /dev/sda -d megaraid,0 -l selftest I always get the same result, which seems to always report that I have never run a self test. /dev/sda [megaraid_disk_00] [SAT]: Device open changed type from 'megaraid' to 'sat' ===START OF READ SMART DATA SECTION === SMART Self-test log structure revision number 1 No self-tests have been logged. [To run self-tests, use: smartctl -t] From what I read, I should have no problem running the short and long self tests on the array while it is mounted. Does anyone else have experience running these tests on a PERC 5/i raid array who could lend some insight into what is causing the problem? • My mouse pointer disappears on "system surfaces" , like background picture, menus, background for all kind of system menus

    - by Siegfried
    I have an annoying problem with Ubuntu 11.10, my mouse pointer disappears on the Ubuntu surface ( not in programs like firefox, libre office ..) The mouse pointer is there, but its size is only one pixel and in the white background of e.g. "system" it is not seen at all, although with "ctrl" I can see where it should be. I have not found any place where I can change the size or colors of the mouse pointer. Can anybody help me?

  • Hard Disk Not Counting Reallocated Sectors

    - by MetaNova
    I have a drive that is reporting that the current pending sectors is "45". I have used badblocks to identify the sectors and I have been trying to write zeros to them with dd. From what I understand, when I attempt writing data directly to the bad sectors, it should trigger a reallocation, reducing current pending sectors by one and increasing the reallocated sector count. However, on this disk both Reallocated_Sector_Ct and Reallocated_Event_Count raw values are 0, and dd fails with I/O errors when I attempt to write zeros to the bad sectors. dd works fine, however, when I write to a good sector. # dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb bs=512 count=1 seek=217152 dd: error writing ‘/dev/sdb’: Input/output error Does this mean that my drive, in some way, has no spare sectors to be used for reallocation? Is my drive just in general a terrible person? (The drive isn't actually mine, I'm helping a friend out. They might have just gotten a cheap drive or something.) In case it is relevant, here is the output of smartctl -i : Model Family: Western Digital Caviar Green (AF) Device Model: WDC WD15EARS-00Z5B1 Serial Number: WD-WMAVU3027748 LU WWN Device Id: 5 0014ee 25998d213 Firmware Version: 80.00A80 User Capacity: 1,500,301,910,016 bytes [1.50 TB] Sector Size: 512 bytes logical/physical Device is: In smartctl database [for details use: -P show] ATA Version is: ATA8-ACS (minor revision not indicated) SATA Version is: SATA 2.6, 3.0 Gb/s Local Time is: Fri Oct 18 17:47:29 2013 CDT SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability. SMART support is: Enabled UPDATE: I have run shred on the disk, which has caused Current_Pending_Sector to go to zero. However, Reallocated_Sector_Ct and Reallocated_Event_Count are still zero, and dd is now able to write data to the sectors it was previously unable to. This leads me with several other questions: Why aren't the reallocations being recored by the disk? I'm assuming the reallocation took place as I can now write data directly to the sector and couldn't before. Why did shred cause reallocation and not dd? Does the fact that shred writes random data instead of just zeros make a difference?

  • setcontext and makecontext to call a generic function pointer

    - by Simone Margaritelli
    In another question i had the problem to port the code unsigned long stack[] = { 1, 23, 33, 43 }; /* save all the registers and the stack pointer */ unsigned long esp; asm __volatile__ ( "pusha" ); asm __volatile__ ( "mov %%esp, %0" :"=m" (esp)); for( i = 0; i < sizeof(stack); i++ ){ unsigned long val = stack[i]; asm __volatile__ ( "push %0" :: "m"(val) ); } unsigned long ret = function_pointer(); /* restore registers and stack pointer */ asm __volatile__ ( "mov %0, %%esp" :: "m" (esp) ); asm __volatile__ ( "popa" ); To a 64bit platform and many guys told me i should use the setcontext and makecontext functions set instead due to the calling conversion differences between 32 and 64 bits and portability issues. Well, i really can't find any useful documentation online, or at least not the kind i need to implement this, so, how can i use those functions to push arguments onto the stack, call a generic function pointer, obtain the return value and then restore the registers?

  • Copy a LinkedList that has a Random Pointer in it

    - by Bragaadeesh
    Hi, First of all this is not a homework, this is an interview question that I got from a company I attended today. You have a singly linked list with the Node structure as the following class Node{ int data; Node next; Node random; } You have a typical singly linked list of length n. The random pointer in each node in the linkedlist randomly points to some Node within the linked list. The Question is to create a copy of the linked list efficiently into a different LinkedList. I said that I will first calculate the Random pointer's position in the linked list and store it in an array. Then create a new linked list normally. Then iterate through the linked list by setting the random pointer where they belong by reading the values stored from the array. I know its a very brute force technique and the interviewer asked me to come up with a better solution but I couldnt. Please can someone answer this? I can explain if the question is not clear.

  • [c++] accessing the hidden 'this' pointer

    - by Kyle
    I have a GUI architecture wherein elements fire events like so: guiManager->fireEvent(BUTTON_CLICKED, this); Every single event fired passes 'this' as the caller of the event. There is never a time I dont want to pass 'this', and further, no pointer except for 'this' should ever be passed. This brings me to a problem: How can I assert that fireEvent is never given a pointer other than 'this', and how can I simplify (and homogenize) calls to fireEvent to just: guiManager->fireEvent(BUTTON_CLICKED); At this point, I'm reminded of a fairly common compiler error when you write something like this: class A { public: void foo() {} }; class B { void oops() { const A* a = new A; a->foo(); } }; int main() { return 0; } Compiling this will give you ../src/sandbox.cpp: In member function ‘void B::oops()’: ../src/sandbox.cpp:7: error: passing ‘const A’ as ‘this’ argument of ‘void A::foo()’ discards qualifiers because member functions pass 'this' as a hidden parameter. "Aha!" I say. This (no pun intended) is exactly what I want. If I could somehow access the hidden 'this' pointer, it would solve both issues I mentioned earlier. The problem is, as far as I know you can't (can you?) and if you could, there would be outcries of "but it would break encapsulation!" Except I'm already passing 'this' every time, so what more could it break. So, is there a way to access the hidden 'this', and if not are there any idioms or alternative approaches that are more elegant than passing 'this' every time?

  • Event Dispatching, void pointer and alternatives

    - by PeeS
    i have my event dispatching / handling functionality working fine, but there is one issue that i need to resolve. Long story short, here are the details. // The event structure struct tEventMessage { // Type of the event int Type; // (void*) Allows those to be casted into per-Type objects void *pArgument1; void *pArgument2; }; I am sending events from different modules in my engine by using the above structure, which requires a pointer to an argument. All messages are queued, and then dispatched on the next ::Tick(). It works fine, untill i try to send something that doesn't exist in next ::Tick, for example: When a mouse click is being handled, it calculates the click coordinates in world space. This is being sent with a pointer to a vector representing that position, but after my program quits that method, this pointer gets invalid obviously, cause local CVector3 is destructed: CVector2 vScreenSpacePosition = vAt; CVector3 v3DPositionA = CVector3(0,0,0); CVector3 v3DPositionB = CVector3(0,0,0); // Screen space to World space calculation for depth zNear v3DPositionA = CMath::UnProject(vScreenSpacePosition, m_vScreenSize, m_Level.GetCurrentCamera()->getViewMatrix(), m_Level.GetCurrentCamera()->getProjectionMatrix(), -1.0 ); // Screen space to World space calculation for depth zFar v3DPositionB = CMath::UnProject(vScreenSpacePosition, m_vScreenSize, m_Level.GetCurrentCamera()->getViewMatrix(), m_Level.GetCurrentCamera()->getProjectionMatrix(), 1.0); // Send zFar position and ScreenSpace position to the handlers // Obviously both vectors won't be valid after this method quits.. CEventDispatcher::Get()->SendEvent(CIEventHandler::EVENT_SYSTEM_FINGER_DOWN, static_cast<void*>(&v3DPositionB), static_cast<void*>(&vScreenSpacePosition)); What i want to ask is, if there is any chance i could make my tEventMessage more 'template', so i can handle sending objects like in the above situation + use what is already implemented? Can't figure it out at the moment.. What else can be done here to allow me to pass some locally available data ? Please can somebody shed a bit of light on this please?

  • NULL pointer comparison fails

    - by Ilya
    Hello, I'm initializing in a class a pointer to be NULL. Afterwards I check if it is NULL in the same class. But it's not always 0x0. Sometimes it's 0x8 or 0xfeffffff or 0x3f800000 or 0x80 or other strange stuff. In most case the pointer is 0x0 but sometimes it gets altered somehow. I'm sure that I'm not changing it anywhere in my code. Is there a way it gets changed by "itself"? Here's my code: MeshObject::MeshObject() { mesh.vertexColors = NULL; } MeshObject::MeshObject(const MeshObject &_copyFromMe) { SimpleLog("vertexColors pointer: %p", _copyFromMe.mesh.vertexColors); if (_copyFromMe.mesh.vertexColors != NULL) { SimpleLog("vertexColors"); this->mesh.vertexColors = new tColor4i[_copyFromMe.mesh.vertexCount]; memcpy(this->mesh.vertexColors, _copyFromMe.mesh.vertexColors, _copyFromMe.mesh.vertexCount * sizeof(tColor4i) ); } } My application crashes, because vertexColors wasn't initialized and is being copied. However it is NULL and shouldn't be copied. Thanks.

  • why no implicit conversion from pointer to reference to const pointer.

    - by user316606
    I'll illustrate my question with code: #include <iostream> void PrintInt(const unsigned char*& ptr) { int data = 0; ::memcpy(&data, ptr, sizeof(data)); // advance the pointer reference. ptr += sizeof(data); std::cout << std::hex << data << " " << std::endl; } int main(int, char**) { unsigned char buffer[] = { 0x11, 0x11, 0x11, 0x11, 0x22, 0x22, 0x22, 0x22, }; /* const */ unsigned char* ptr = buffer; PrintInt(ptr); // error C2664: ... PrintInt(ptr); // error C2664: ... return 0; } When I run this code (in VS2008) I get this: error C2664: 'PrintInt' : cannot convert parameter 1 from 'unsigned char *' to 'const unsigned char *&'. If I uncomment the "const" comment it works fine. However shouldn't pointer implicitly convert into const pointer and then reference be taken? Am I wrong in expecting this to work? Thanks!

  • Using GIT Smart HTTP via IIS

    - by Andrew Matthews
    I recently read Scott Chacon's post "Smart HTTP Transport", and I was hoping that it might have become possible via IIS (windows 7) since that post was written. I haven't been able to find anything showing how it can be done, and Apache is not an option in my IIS 7 based environment. So, I'm at a loss (git daemon was foiled for me by a combination of AVG anti-virus and AD). I want to provide LDAP authenticated read/write access for selected users. So this question seems not to be relevant. Do you know of a way to provide access to GIT via IIS?

  • Optimizing Smart Client Performance

    - by Burt
    I have a smart client (WPF) that makes calls to the server va services (WCF). The screen I am working on holds a list of objects that it loads when the constructor is called. I am able to add, edit and delete records in the list. Typically what I am doing is after every add or delete I am reloading the entire model from the service again, there are a number off reasons for this including the fact that the data may have changed on the server between calls. This approach has proved to be a big hit on perfomance because I am loading everything sending the list up and down the wire on Add and Edit. What other options are open to me, should I only be send the required information to the server and how would I go about not reloading all the data again ever time an add or delete is performed?

  • smart device cab project with visual studio: inserting of registry value

    - by nuttynibbles
    hi, i have created a cab file using visual studio smart device cab project. i've managed to generate a cab file and install onto a mobile phone successfully. for my installation, it will also insert into registry. however, for this it is not working. the registry value is suppose to be like this including the double quote: "\Program Files\app\file.exe" "%1" i read that to include '%', i have to insert extra % which will be like this: "\Program Files\app\file.exe" "%%1" but this is still not getting insert into the registry. however, if i remove the double quotes which looks like this, it works: \Program Files\app\file.exe %%1 Thanks.

  • jQuery - UI Dialog - looking for a smart solution for a timed close

    - by AnApprentice
    Hello, I wrote the following: // Called with setTimeout(magicDialogDelayedClose, 2500); function magicDialogDelayedClose() { $(".ui-dialog").fadeOut(function() { dialog_general.dialog('close'); }); } The above is called with setTimeout when I show a notice dialog that I want to auto close in 2.5 secs. The problem I'm noticing with this is that if the use Manually closes a dialog this timer still is running. If the user then opens a new dialog (which is very possible) the timer can then close that NEW dialog. What's a smart way to handle this?j

  • Jquery Smart Wizard freezing up

    - by Andrew
    I'm using IE 8 and the jquery smart wizard version 3.2.0. I've noticed when enclose the smart wizard within an additional <div> tag (with the intent of displaying the wizard within a jquery dialog popup), the wizard will not advance steps when a function is specified for the onLeaveStep event. And now for the code: The javascript setting up the wizard: $('#wizard').smartWizard({ transitionEffect: 'slideleft', onLeaveStep: leaveAStepCallback, onFinish: onFinishCallback}); Simple functions associated with the events for the wizard: // wizard functions function leaveAStepCallback(obj) { // Get current step var step_num = obj.attr('rel'); // get the current step number } function onFinishCallback() { alert('Finish Called'); } function showStep(obj) { // Get current step var step_num = obj.attr('rel'); // get the current step number } And the HTML markup (I removed the step content within the <p> tags for brevity - this resulted it the same lack of functionality as if there was content within, so that can be ruled out) <div id="wizDialog"> <div id="wizard" class="swMain"> <ul> <li><a href="#step-1"> <label class="stepNumber">1</label> <span class="stepDesc"> Step 1<br /> <small>Step 1 - </small> </span> </a></li> <li><a href="#step-2"> <label class="stepNumber">2</label> <span class="stepDesc"> Step 2<br /> <small>Step 2 - </small> </span> </a></li> <li><a href="#step-3"> <label class="stepNumber">3</label> <span class="stepDesc"> Step 3<br /> <small>Step 3 - </small> </span> </a></li> <li><a href="#step-4"> <label class="stepNumber">4</label> <span class="stepDesc"> Step 4<br /> <small>Step 4 - </small> </span> </a></li> <li><a href="#step-5"> <label class="stepNumber">5</label> <span class="stepDesc"> Step 5<br /> <small>Step 5 - </small> </span> </a></li> <li><a href="#step-6"> <label class="stepNumber">6</label> <span class="stepDesc"> Step 6<br /> <small>Step 6 - </small> </span> </a></li> <li><a href="#step-7"> <label class="stepNumber">7</label> <span class="stepDesc"> Step 7<br /> <small>Step 7 - </small> </span> </a></li> <li><a href="#step-8"> <label class="stepNumber">8</label> <span class="stepDesc"> Step 8<br /> <small>Step 8 - </small> </span> </a></li> </ul> <div id="step-1"> <h2 class="StepTitle">Step 1 Content</h2> <p> </p> </div> <div id="step-2"> <h2 class="StepTitle">Step 2 Content</h2> <p> </p> </div> <div id="step-3"> <h2 class="StepTitle">Step 3 Content</h2> <p> </p> </div> <div id="step-4"> <h2 class="StepTitle">Step 4 Content</h2> <p> </p> </div> <div id="step-5"> <h2 class="StepTitle">Step 5 Content</h2> <p> </p> </div> <div id="step-6"> <h2 class="StepTitle">Step 6 Content</h2> <p> </p> </div> <div id="step-7"> <h2 class="StepTitle">Step 7 Content</h2> <p> </p> </div> <div id="step-8"> <h2 class="StepTitle">Step 8 Content</h2> <p> </p> </div> </div> </div> Has anyone had similar results with this?   • External drive hanging, load average through the roof

    - by Paul Tomblin
    I have an external USB drive, and I run an hourly rsync to it as a backup. This has been working fine for years. This weekend, I got two new 2Tb internal drives, and decided it was time to re-install Ubuntu from scratch to clear out all the old cruft. About once a day since the re-install, the backup script hangs hard, usually in the "rm -rf" I do before the rsync. By the time I notice the problem, my load average is in the stratosphere and climbing fast (one time, it was over 150), but anything that doesn't touch the drive seems to be running fine. One thing that I find suspicious is that something, I don't know what, is doing a "smartctl" and a "hdparm" command on the USB drive. I'm pretty sure smartctl isn't supposed to run on external drives. I can't figure out what's doing it, either. Here's part of ps auwwfx when it's hung: root 7310 0.0 0.0 4248 352 ?
