  • Best way to start Game development? [on hold]

    I'm a web developer. I got skills in PHP, CSS HTML. I also have a little bit of knowledge about JS. I want to get into game development to be a better programmer overal. I just want to start by making a simple platform game. Some kind of very simple mario clone. What is the best way to start the process of gamedevelopment? I know code is just code, but when thinking about starting my own little game, i do not exactly know where to start looking. Some opinions on this would be awsome!

    I have an eth0 and eth1, eth0 has dynamic ip and on eth1 i setup static ip: auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp auto eth1 iface eth1 inet static address 10.10.0.1 netmask 255.0.0.0 gateway 10.10.0.1 ` and then i setup the "isc-dhcp-server" with the fowling command: INTERFACES="eth1" Finally... I went to this one "dhcpd.conf", with the fowling comand: default-lease-time 650; max-lease-time 79520; option subnet-mask 255.0.0.0; option broadcast-address 10.10.0.255; option routers 10.10.0.2; subnet 10.10.0.0 netmask 255.0.0.0 { range 10.10.0.10 10.10.0.250; } When I try to "sudo /etc/init.d/isc-dhcp-server start", I get "start: Job failed to start" Anyone knows whats wrong? :/

  • Tomboy won't start

    I've just discovered Tomboy and like it. I added it to the startup applications, and on next boot Tomboy won't start. It then also won't start when I select it manually from the menu. I unchecked its entry in the startup applications and rebooted, but it still won't start. I uninstalled it and installed it again in order to perhaps fix some broken file or setting, but it didn't help. I saw this question and added the Applet. But the applet says "Tomboy Notes" has quit unexpectedly and a reload doesn't work; the message appears again. How can I determine (and fix!) what's wrong?

  • DHCP Fails To Start

    I just installed Ubuntu 12.0.4 on an HP 8560 laptop. I installed Fog version 29 and everything worked just fine except the DHCP3 package failed to start. When I run the install command it says DHCP3 is installed, but when I type in the following command to start DHCP (sudo /etc/init.d/DHCP3-server start it says the command is not found. Is there a different command for Ubuntu 12? I have been using Ubuntu 10 on my other fog servers and that command works fine.Thank you for your help.

  • Sound card stop responding

    A few days ago I installed the latest version of Ubuntu in a computer of mine, that it has installed the "Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS". After the installation and up to yesterday everything was excelent. Yesterday I installed the latest Ubuntu updates and today I had several issues. First the mouse was not responed as should be, but after restarted my computer everything was fine with mouse. Next was my sound card. For now I do not have sound at all :( I don't really know what's wrong. Does anybody has any idea on how to solve that issue, or from where to start, to find a solution ? If there is no any available solution for that issue, can I remove the latest updates that installed yesterday ? Kind regards Merianos Nikos

  • Where to start in creating a massive multiplayer 3D Java game [on hold]

    I am planning on creating a massive multiplayer world and I am wondering where to start. I am quite inexperienced in the field of Java but I have researched into it and learned that it is perhaps my best bet in creating this project is Java for the fact that it has a much easier learning curve than C++ to beginners and still capable of holding massive amounts of players at a time. My question is simple: Should I start the game by creating a single player prototype and introducing multiplayer later as I become more experienced or start with multiplayer before I am completely experienced in the field.     I'm needing to start hacking around the Citrix SDK and am trying to figure out where to start. I'm wanting to basically find a way to pass data from the client to the server and figure out how to open an application on the citrix client. I see there is a XenApp SDK, and Virtual Channel SDK but really don't know which one I need to start with. I have a Citrix development virtual server set up, but am unsure how to get started. Does someone know of a good site/tutorial on how to get started with the various Citrix API's quickly?

  • DHCP won't start / subnetting

    I recently changed the IP address on an Ubuntu 12.04 server I have in my lab, which is running isc-dhcp-server. After doing so and modifying the dhcpd.conf file, my dhcp service would not start. I basically used the same configuration, except I modified everything to use /25 scopes rather than /24. When I try to start / restart the service, I see the following: MY@ubuntuserver:~$ sudo service isc-dhcp-server restart stop: Unknown instance: isc-dhcp-server start/running, process 20918 It looks like it starts, but it isn't actually running and Webmin states that the DHCP service is not running. So my question is, does isc-dhcp-server support subnetting (CIDR) style scopes, or must they be class A / B / C scopes (doesn't seem likely)? I've double checked the interface reference (this is a VM with only one defined eth0 interface) and everything else I can thing of.

  • Not enough components to start the RAID array?

    I'm trying to retrieve data from a "Western Digital MyBook World Edition (white light)" NAS device. This is basically an embedded Linux box with a 1TB HDD in it formatted in ext3. It stopped booting one day for no apparent reason. I have extracted the HDD from the NAS device and installed it in a desktop machine running Ubuntu 10.10 in the hope of accessing the files on the drive. Unfortunately, Ubuntu has not been able to mount the drive automatically. Having started up Disk Utility I see the drive as a multi disk device called "Array (Array)" showing Metadata Version 0.90.0. The device state is: "Not Running, not enough components to start". When I click the "Start RAID Array" button I get an error saying: "Not enough components to start the RAID array". Can you please tell me which components are missing and how to install them to get access to the drive's filesystem?

    I am good at C programming and also I am good at embedded devices. I have setup an embedded circuit myself using the basic arduino and by interfacing some devices with it. But the main problem is that I do not know where and how to start programming this device with the known C programming skills. The device has an on chip boot loader. By "start programming", I mean how to bring the embedded device into my programming and stuff. I know program starts from a main() and an infinite loop makes the application run. But the real question is, how to start this all and integrate the hardware with the software which I write. Kindly help with this. Thanks for the help in advance.

    What is the easiest way to have an application launch at startup on Ubuntu server as daemon? This is a java application (java com.run.run.Run) etc. How would I have it launch as a user and possibly have access to write to some log file where the user has permissions to write? And if I don't end up doing that, how would I launch the application as the root user at startup. Edited: It is a headless server, I don't have access to the desktop applications.

    I'm using Timer-X's timerDelayCall function in order to have a repeating rotator on my page, which starts automatically as the page loads: jQuery.timerDelayCall({ interval: 2000, repeat: true, callback: function(timer) { ... (my rotator logic here) } } }); The problem is that I'm trying to make a function that includes stopping that timer: function signUp() { ... (timer stop code here) } The documentation stats that timer.stop() does that, but however I format it, I get errors about it not being declared. I have tried every variation I can think of, such as: timer.stop(); jQuery.timer.stop(); $(document).timer.stop(); jQuery.timerDelayCall({ callback: function(timer) { timer.stop() } }); I'm sure I'm missing something simple - I come from a PHP background yet I'm new to javascript - but can't see what it is exactly.     A lot of people are unhappy with being forced to interact with the new Start Screen in Windows 8 first thing once they have logged into their system. But their is a quick and simple work-around to go directly to Desktop Mode that does not require installing extra software or making changes to your system. The first thing that you will need to do is make sure that the Desktop Tile is in the left uppermost position on the Start Screen as seen here. Once the tile has been moved to that position you will need to restart/reboot your system. Once your system has restarted and you are back at the Login Screen, type in your password but do NOT click on the Arrow Button or tap the Enter Key. Instead of tapping the Enter Key simply press down on it and hold it down until you see the regular desktop. Keep in mind that you may see the Start Screen become visible for just a short moment as it is being bypassed for the desktop.     Just discovered that logrotate is not rotating our firewall log. So its up to 12g in size. I need to split up the file into smaller chunks and start manually rotating them so I can get things back on track. However before I start splitting the firewall up, I need to stop the firewall from logging to the current firewall log file and force it to start logging to a new empty file. This way I'm not trying to split up or rotate a log file that is still constantly growing. I tried to simply do this: mv firewall firewall.old touch firewall I expected to see the new empty firewall file to start growing in size, but no... the firewall.old is still be logged to. Then I tried to start/stop iptables. No change. firewall.old is still the log file. I tried to move it to another directory. That didn't help. I tried to stop iptables, then change the filename and create a new firewall file and then start iptables again, but no change. How do I stop the logging on this file and force it to start logging on a new file?
