  Hi. I've read lots of articles about DOD and I understand it but I can't design an Object Oriented system with DOD in mind, I think my OOP education is blocking me. How should I think to mix the two? The objective is to have a nice OO interface while using DOD behind the scenes. • Why aren't web frameworks simple, elegant and fun like programming languages? [on hold]

  When I think of pretty much any programming language - like C, C++, PHP, SQL, JavaScript, Python, ActionScript, Haskell, Lua, Lisp, Java, etc - I'm like awesome I would love to develop a computer application using any of those languages. But when I think of web frameworks(I do mostly PHP) - like Cake, CI, Symfony, Laravel, Zend, Drupal, Joomla, Wordpress, Rails, Django, etc - I'm like god no. Why aren't there web frameworks that provide me with simple, fun and powerful constructs like a programming language?

• A outsiders view of Fusion Apps.

  Over the last couple of years I've heard some people comment that "Fusion isn't real".  I've heard customers say they wanted to choose different technology stacks because they felt that Fusion "wouldn't work for them". • AND is better or using Internal "IF"

  In a situation like this:" if ((metadata != null) && (metadata.TypeEnum != VariantInfoMetadata.CellTypeEnum.Status)) do you recommend to keep the code as it is above or do you think it is better to make an internal "if" statement and brake that AND into two sections where "outer if" makes sure metadata is not null and inner if does the rest of the checking. I think this way will take care of possible null refrence exception if value of metadata gets null?

• How to avoid oscillation by async event based systems?

  Imagine a system where there are data sources which need to be kept in sync. A simple example is model - view data binding by MVC. Now I intend to describe these kind of systems with data sources and hubs. Data sources are publishing and subscribing for events and hubs are relaying events to data sources. By handling an event a data source will change it state described in the event. By publishing an event the data source puts its current state to the event, so other data sources can use that information to change their state accordingly. The only problem with this system, that events can be reflected from the hub or from the other data sources, and that can put the system into an infinite oscillation (by async or infinite loop by sync). For example A -- data source B -- data source H -- hub A -> H -> A -- reflection from the hub A -> H -> B -> H -> A -- reflection from another data source By sync it is relatively easy to solve this issue. You can compare the current state with the event, and if they are equal, you don't change the state and raise the same event again. By async I could not find a solution yet. The state comparison does not work by async event handling because there is eventual consistency, and new events can be published in an inconsistent state causing the same oscillation. For example: A(*->x) -> H -> B(y->x) -- can go parallel with B(*->y) -> H -> A(x->y) -- so first A changes to x state while B changes to y state -- then B changes to x state while A changes to y state -- and so on for eternity... What do you think is there an algorithm to solve this problem? If there is a solution, is it possible to extend it to prevent oscillation caused by multiple hubs, multiple different events, etc... ? update: I don't think I can make this work without a lot of effort. I think this problem is just the same as we have by syncing multiple databases in a distributed system. So I think what I really need is constraints if I want to prevent this problem in an automatic way. What constraints do you suggest?

• Why is verbosity bad for a programming language?

  I have seen many people around complaining about verbosity in programming languages. I find that, within some bounds, the more verbose a programming language is, the better it is to understand. I think that verbosity also reinforces writing clearer APIs for that particular language. The only disadvantage I can think of is that it makes you type more, but I mean, most people use IDEs that do all that work for you. so, What are possible downsides to a verbose programming language?

  hello I'm new in linux systems and I have the same problem in every distro... the thing is that my mouse every time i move it or do anything with it blinks!!! I think it's a xorg problem or a driver problem and the only way it does not do that is when i start with the low-resolution error using a xorg.conf from another graphic chipset and i think that isn't the best choise xDD please if you can help me I have a ati rage 128, thanks a lot for your help people n.n

• How do you feel about being asked to code during an interview?

  I have seen a lot of comments about good interview questions and puzzles to require potential developers to solve during the interview process. I have personally had several interviews in which the interviewer has asked me to write some piece of code or solve a problem during the interview, and I have always performed very poorly in these "tests". The reason is simple, as a developer who spends my days talking to computers, I find I have to prepare myself and "switch gears" to be in "interview mode". I prepare myself to make a good impression. When I'm programming, I'm very focused and am totally different from when I'm being "interpersonal". I just can't get into "the zone" when I'm also having to be a charming and witty potential employee. I feel that by asking a developer to prove his skills during an interview, all you're doing is finding out if they can code under pressure, and at the drop of a hat. It has almost no ability to determine how you would perform in a "real life" development situation. Maybe, if you're looking for someone that can code and chat at the same time, i can see how that would be beneficial. But I think you overlook potential candidates that simply do not perform well in such an artificial environment. While I appreciate that a potential employer wants to see what I can do, I don't think an interview is the place for such a test. I mean, suppose a job for an over the road trucker required that you drive while being interviewed. How does that really end well? So I'm curious as to what others think about such situations. Have you failed interviews because you were not in the right frame of mind? Have you failed to make a good interpersonal impression because you were too distracted trying to solve the problem? If you're a hiring manager, or someone that gives interviews, do you even think about such things? Is it really important that someone perform well in an interview? EDIT: To clarify, I'm not against testing applicants. My concern is about testing during an interview. • How to reset Bash on Mac OSX, .bash_profile corrupted and bash no longer works

  I am on a MacBook Pro, running the latest version of Mountain Lion. I really need some help, I have managed some how to damage my .bash_profile (I think) so that every time I open up the terminal I get the error listed below. -bash: export: `/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/go/bin': not a valid identifier -bash: export: `/Users/rob/Applications/sbt/bin:': not a valid identifier env: bash: No such file or directory env: bash: No such file or directory env: bash: No such file or directory env: bash: No such file or directory env: bash: No such file or directory -bash: tar: command not found -bash: grep: command not found -bash: cat: command not found -bash: find: command not found I am not sure what has happened, I have no sudo, cd or any normal commands. The only way I have been able to get to any of the main directories is through the go to folder command in finder and try to find the file to no avail. To top it all off I think I created a file that might be causing the issue, I wanted to edit the .bash_profile so I typed sudo nano ./bash_profile This open a new file in nano which I think was then saved. After this I opened the real .bash_profile to add in the path for node.js. If I can get to the .bash_profile I think I can get it back on track but I can't find it, should I reinstall bash? If so how would I do that on a mac, I tried using brew install bash to which I get -bash: brew: command not found I am really stuck if anyone can help I would be really appreciated. Many thanks

RAM: 6GB (I think 1 x 4GB and 1 x 2GB) Display: 15.6" HD (1366x768) Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 7500M 2GB Details So now that you know some basics about my computer, I'll get to the problem. Being an Ubuntu user I hardly use Windows, but occasionally I do. Like to run Skyrim and other games incompatible with Linux and WINE. The new Sims 3 Seasons patch is also now not supported. When playing these two games and other ones, theoretically. I have also heard others saying that while watching HD movies and video series it also happens. While watching the bluescreen as it happens, I see it is the 'atikmpag.sys' error. I have not installed much and nothing significant. I think I have downloaded Skyrim, Firefox and The Sims 3. I haven't done much more... since Ubuntu is definitely the best in comparison! (No hate, just a joke :P). I can reproduce it easily (just by running a game for less than a minute). It is always there each time, but it's never at a specific time or anything. So far I have found that it may be caused by lack of power to the graphics card, or it may be damaged or fried. Since I've had the computer for a mere 4 months (and have had other problems with it also). I have contacted Dell but they are useless beyond belief. Anyone with any information, solutions or details are encouraged to share your knowledge, as it would be immensely appreciated.
