• Unique element ID to reference later

  I'm trying to figure out a method of storing a unique reference to each tag on a particular page. I won't have any ability to edit the page content and I'll the generated UID to stay the same on every page refresh. Since browsers don't generate any kind of UID for elements, I was thinking that the only method to do this would be to execute a script which walks the DOM and creates a UID for each it comes across. I don't know how accurate this will be, especially considering I'll need to ensure it creates the same UID for the tag each time the script crawls the page. Can anyone think of any other, more accurate ways of mapping a page? Many thanks.

• Swap unique indexed column values in database.

  I have a database table and one of the fields (not primary key) is having unique index on it. Now I want to swap values under this column for two rows. How could this be done? Two hack I know are: Delete both rows and re-insert them Update rows with some other value and swap and then update to actual value. But I don't want to go for these as they do not seem to be the appropriate solution to the problem. Could anyone help me out?

  I need to generate unique and consecutive numbers (for use on an invoice), in a fast and reliable way. currently use a Oracle sequence, but in some cases generated numbers are not consecutive because of exceptions that may occur. I thought a couple of solutions to manage this problem, but neither of they convincing me. What solution do you recommend? Use a select max () SELECT MAX (NVL (doc_num, 0)) +1 FROM invoices Use a table to store the last number generated for the invoice. • Making form submissions unique using PHP and HTML

  Hello all I'm currently developing a page where the user fills out a form, and when submitted they are taken to the next page. When on the next page, I want to have it so that if the user went back to the previous page using the back button, or hit refresh, the submission will not be saved into the DB. Now I recall reading somewhere that if you had a way to make each submission unique, this issue is averted, but after screwing around for hours on end, for the life of me I cannot recall how this could be done (using PHP), so long story short has anyone ran into this, and if so, what was your solution?

• Unique task queue task names only for active duration

  I want to guarantee that a task is not in a task queue more then once, so I generate a unique name based on it's payload. But, that task name is reserved for up to 7 days, which is not what I want; I only want it reserved for the duration the task is queued; it could be immediately re-queued. Once a Task with name N is written, any subsequent attempts to insert a Task named N will fail. Eventually (at least seven days after the task successfully executes), the task will be deleted and the name N can be reused. Is there a way to check if the named task is already in the queue then add it if it's not? Or a totally different approach?

• The Columns in table <table> do not match an existing primary key or unique constraint

  I have 2 tables, Stores - storeId (int) and year (int(4)) both Primary Keys. fruit - fruitId - Primary Key and storeId. I need to create 1 to many relationship between the Store and Fruit (Foreign Key held within Fruit) how ever I always get shown the error - The Columns in table <table> do not match an existing primary key or unique constraint. The type's are both int and named the same. Any help would be appreciate in advance, many thanks.

• mysql ignores not null constraint?

  I have created a table with NOT NULL constraints on some columns in MySQL. Then in PHP I wrote a script to insert data, with an insert query. When I omit one of the NOT NULL columns in this insert statement I would expect an error message from MySQL, and I would expect my script to fail. Instead, MySQL inserts empty strings in the NOT NULL fields. In other omitted fields the data is NULL, which is fine. Could someone tell me what I did wrong here?   This is what I'm doing right now (name is UNIQUE): SELECT * FROM fruits WHERE name='apple'; Check if the query returned any result. If yes, don't do anything. If no, a new value has to be inserted: INSERT INTO fruits (name) VALUES ('apple'); Instead of the above is it ok to insert the value into the table without checking if it already exists? If the name already exists in the table, an error will be thrown and if it doesn't, a new record will be inserted. Right now I am having to insert 500 records in a for loop, which results in 1000 queries. Will it be ok to skip the "already-exists" check?

  I am fairly new at programming in Objective-C, having been a windows programmer since I was a kid. I am falling in LOVE with it. I am, however, having a bit of trouble figuring out this Core Data stuff. How do I create a new entry with a unique ID? In SQL I would just declare one field as an autoincrement field. I'm not seeing anything like that here, but I could just be missing something. I just want an auto incrementing NSInteger field, so when I manually add items to the database, I will have some form of reference to them.

  Hi :) I want to give users of my site the ability to upload their software/hardware configuration automatically on Windows. So I'm thinking of having an EXE file download, and somehow put in that EXE a unique URL for each user. When the data is collected, the program would just posts some JSON to that URL. How can I do it? I'm most familiar with .NET platform. Tools like this do exist, for example Blizzard uses this approach for their beta test enroll. Each user downloads a slightly different EXE. TIA

  We are given a list of animals in different zoos and need to find which zoos have animals that are not in any others. The animals of each zoo are separated by spaces, and each zoo is originally separated by a comma. I am currently enumerating over all of the zoos to split each animal and create lists within lists for different zoos as such: for i, zoo in enumerate(zoos): zoos[i] = zoo.split() However, I then do not know how to tell and count how many of the zoos have unique animals. I figure it is something else with enumerate and possibly sets, but cannot get it down exactly. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

• c# Create a unique name with a GUID

  I am creating a back up solution. I doubt there is anything new in what I'm trying to achieve. Before copying the file I want to take a backup of the destination file in case anything becomes corrupt. This means renaming the file. I have to be careful when renaming in case the file already exists and adding a 01 to the end is not safe. My question is, based upon not finding the answer else where, would adding a GUID to the file name work. So, if my file was called file01.txt, renaming the file to file01.txtGUID (where GUID is the generated GUID), I could then perform my back up of that file (at this instance having 2 back ups) and then, after ensuring the file has copied (by comparing length of file to the source), delete the file with the GUID in the name. I know the GUID is not 100% guaranteed to be unique but would this suffice?

  Hi Guys, I have a question about Objective-C today involving NSMutableArray. Coming from a .net/c# background I'm having some trouble working with these things. Let's say I have an object called "Song" My song has 3 properties: Title Artist Genre I have a NSMutableArray or NSArray wich holds all my Song objects. How would I go about trying to 'query' my array to get a new array with only (Unique) Artists or Genre's. Where as in .net you would write a simple LINQ query with a DISTINCT clause, how would one solve this in Objective-C ? I'm guessing with predicates but am struggling to find a solution. I'm trying to join some tables together in MySQL, but I seem to get an error saying: #1066 - Not unique table/alias: 'calendar_jobs' I really want it to select everything from the cal_events, the 2 user bits and just the destination col from the jobs table, but become "null" if there arn't any job. A right join seemed to fit the bill but doesn't work! Can anyone help!?   I'm writing a little homebrew ORM (academic interest). I'm trying to adhere to the TDD concept as a training exercise, and as part of that exercise I'm writing documentation for the API as I develop the class. Case in point - I'm working on a classic "getCollection" type mapper class. I want it to be able to retrieve collections of asset X (let's say blog posts) for a specific user, and also collections based on an arbitrary array of numeric values. So - you might have a method like any one of these $User = $UserMapper->load(1); $ArticleCollection = $ArticleMapper->getCollection(range(10,20)); $ArticleCollection = $ArticleMapper->getCollection($User); $ArticleCollection = $ArticleMapper->getCollection($User->getId()); So, in writing the documentation for the getCollection method - I want to declare the @param variable in the Docblock. Is it better to have a unique method for each argument type, or is it acceptable to have a method that delegates to the correct internal method/class based on argument type?

The database is a Microsoft SQL Server 2000. But I do not mind knowing the solution for other databases.

  Hello, I am creating a counter for unique number of visits on a post, so what I have until now is a table for storing data like this; cvp_post_id | cvp_ip | cvp_user_id In cases a registered user visits a post, for the first time a record is inserted with cpv_post_id and cvp_user_id, so for his next visit I query the table and if the record is available I do not count him as a new visitor. In cases of an anonymous user the same happens but now the cvp_ip and cpv_post_id are used. My concerns is that I do a query every time anyone visits a post for checking if there has been a visit, what would be a more effective way for doing this?

  Hi, I have a table, department , with several bit fields to indicate department types One is Warehouse (when true, indicate the department is warehouse) And I have another table, ManagersForWarehouses with following structure: ID autoinc WarehouseID int (foreign key reference DepartmentID from departments) ManagerID int (foreign key reference EmployeeID from employees) StartDate EndDate To set new manager for warehouse, I insert in this table with EndDate null, and I have a trigger that sets EndDate for previous record for that warehouse = StartDate for new manager, so a single manager appears for a warehouse at a certain time. I want to add two check constraints as follows, but not sure how to do this do not allow to insert into ManagersForWarehouses if WarehouseID is not marked as warehouse Do not allow to uncheck Warehouse if there are records in ManagersForWarehouses Thanks
