• Blank black screen with cursor after login -- RHEL5

  I have a RHEL 5 machine here which is a Dell Precision T3500. I'm an Ubuntu guy, but I'm having a heck of a time with this machine. After processing its first security update, we cannot log in via the gdm greeter. A new kernel was installed; then I installed the nVidia drivers for our Quadro NVS 295. I know the X configuration is valid because the gdm greeter does display; however, upon login all we can get is a blank, black screen with a cursor. I thought perhaps our python installation was corrupted but a reinstall via yum has not helped. I have searched & googled extensively for a potential fix for this and can find nothing. Below are outputs from uname, a tail of an error in /var/log/messages, and the Xorg.conf. Can anyone suggest a course of action?   I had a task to write simple game simulating two players picking up 1-3 matches one after another until the pile is gone. I managed to do it for computer choosing random value of matches but now I'd like to go further and allow humans to play the game. Problem is, that thread of PlayerMan should wait until proper value of matches is given but I cannot make it work this way. Logic is as follows: thread runs until matches equals to zero. If player number is correct at the moment function pickMatches() is called. After decreasing number of matches on table, thread should wait and another thread should be notified. I know I must use wait() and notify() but I can't place them right. • Android: Filtering a SimpleCursorAdapter ListView

  Right now, I'm running into issues trying to implement a FilterQueryProvider in my custom SimpleCursorAdapter, since I'm unsure of what to do in the FilterQueryProvider's runQuery function. In other words, since the query that comprises my ListView basically gets the rowID, name, and a third column from my databases's table, I want to be able to filter the cursor based on the partial value of the name column. However, I am uncertain of whether I can do this directly from runQuery without expanding my DB class since I want to filter the existing cursor, or will I have to create a new query function in my DB class that partially searches my name column, and if so, how would I go about creating the query statement while using the CharSequence constraint argument in runQuery? I am also concerned about the performance issues associated with trying to run multiple queries based on partial text since the DB table in question has about 1300-1400 rows. In other words, would I run into a bottleneck trying to filter the cursor?

  I usually tend to define the model layer of my apps using POJO's, such as Article, Comment, etc. I was about to implement an AlphabetIndexer in the adapter of one of my ListViews. Right now this adapter accepts a Collection of Articles, which I normally get from my wrapper around an SQLiteDatabase. The signature of the AlphabetIndexer constructer is as follows: public AlphabetIndexer (Cursor cursor, int sortedColumnIndex, CharSequence alphabet) Since this doesn't accept a Collection or something similar, just a Cursor, it got me wondering: maybe I shouldn't be creating objects for my model, and just use the Cursors returned from the database? So the question is, I guess: what should I do, represent data with Collections of POJO's, or just work with Cursors throughout my app? Any input?

• Android AlertDialog wait for result in calling activity

  I am trying to use an AlertDialog in my app to select the quantity of an item. The problem is that the activity that calls the AlertDialog doesn't wait for it to update the item before it adds it to the SQLite Database and change intents. At the moment, the QuantitySelector (AlertDialog) appears, then disappears straight away and changes the MealActivity class (which is just a ListView that reads from the database) through the intent change with an update to the database with quantity 0. I need the Activity to wait for the AlertDialog to close before it updates the database. What would be the correct way of implementing this? • javascript/jquery input fields cleanup

  I've created a few input fields, that I am cleaning up as the user types. So, I'm using a keystroke detection event, like .keyup() It's all working very well, but I do notice one thing that's rather annoying for the users. While the script is cleaning the data as they type, their cursor is being sent to the end of the input field. So, if you want to edit the middle of the value, you're cursor immediately goes to the end of the box. Does anyone know of a way to maintain the cursor's current position inside the input field? I'm not holding my breath, but I thought I'd ask. I searched for an answer and was advised to use javascript as follows. 1) Add this javascript function hourglass() { document.body.style.cursor = "wait"; } 2) then in my code in the page load event: btnImport.Attributes.Add("onclick", "javascript: hourglass();"); When btnImport is the button they click on However this does not work.   My PL/SQL procedure returns a cursor. It always returns data. I fetch (oci_fetch_assoc) it and save it in an array. If results were found the keys of the array will be strings. If the cursor didn't find data, it will return value 0, thus the key of the array will be numeric. while($data = oci_fetch_assoc($cursor)){ if(!isset($data[0])){ ... } ... ... } What's the best way to check that the array is not just 0, but contains data?   Hi all, I have a webform with background images on the textboxes to give them a nice rounded corner. In Chrome the textboxes work as expected, however, if I view the form in Firefox the cursor appears to size to the height of the image, but the text is a normal size. Is there a way to override this oversized cursor?   I'm making a little bot in C#. At the moment it works pretty well, it can load text from a file and type it for you. But for now, I need to manualy click the textfield to put the focus on it, remaximize my form and then click the Type-button. After the typing, I need to manualy slide the scorebar and press submit. I'd like to know how I can move my mouse with C# and if possible, if possible I'd like to load the mouse positions from a xml-file. The mouse icon will flicker to the appropriate graphic (when it hits the edge of a window it turns into the <- resize image, for instance), but it doesn't actually move the visible cursor. I can move the mouse around while the code is running. Same result using the ctypes example in the above link. It works fine in the Win7 host. I have Guest Additions installed, if that matters.
