• BeanInfo Editor in NetBeans Rocks

  Impressed by a cool feature I didn't know about. If you have some JavaBean, like my Event class below, you can right-click it and choose "BeanInfo Editor": Now, as you can see above, I don't have a BeanInfo class. So I am now asked whether the IDE should create one for me. So I say OK and then I have a new BeanInfo class, generated from my Event class, as well as a multiview editor for visually editing the BeanInfo class: Thanks Eric and Nicklas from Artificial Solutions in Stockholm for pointing this out to me today. It comes in very handy in NetBeans Platform applications when you're working with a BeanNode and want to customize the display of your properties.

• Keyboard settings for a Mac+PC world

  SharePoint, WCF and Azure Trainings: more information I’m one of those weridos who lives in a Mac+PC world. I write code for both iOS and Windows platforms. I also travel quite a bit, and airlines and airport security are starting to weigh your carry ons, and beginning to frown on the powerplant of batteries you need to carry to power SharePoint on an airplane. This means, my main work machine has to be a Macbook Pro, since it is the only machine that can do both XCode and Visual Studio Virtualized and SharePoint virtualized nicely. The problem this causes of course, is you will literally pull your hair out when dealing with keyboard/shortcut differences. So here is my work setup, Running Mac for all my normal work Virtualizing using VMWare Fusion – and sometimes I move these VMs to my windows server so I can run them on VMware workstation. • What do I need to know about Data Structures and Algorithms in the "real" world

  I just finished the data structures and algorithms course in school , I took it during the summer so 6wks course vs a 16 wk course during the regular semester. So not only was the course hard but it was really really really fast. My question is what do I need to know about data structures in the real world? I understand what they do and how they work, for the most part, but I had a real tough time coding them , I wouldn't be able to write the code for a binary tree class or a balanced tree class from scratch .... Is that bad? should I retake it , or is knowledge of how they work sufficient, without being able to write the classes from scratch?

• Real World ADF - another new ADF book hits the stands

  I'm pleased to report that yet another Oracle ADF book hits the bookstores this month.  One of my fellow Product Managers, Jobinesh, has written Oracle ADF Real World Developer's Guide.   I'm currently awaiting a copy for review and can't wait to get into this book.  Jobinesh is an incredibly smart and switched-on technical ADF guru and I'm convinced I'm going to learn a whole lot of tips and techniques from this book. Once I get my hands on a copy I'll be writing up a full review. As someone who has written an Oracle ADF book already, I know the effort that goes into something like that, so well done Jobinesh.

I'm presenting in a session entitled "What’s New with Oracle VM Server for x86 and SPARC Architectures: A Technical Deep Dive", along with Adam Hawley. We'll be talking about Oracle's overall virtualization strategy, what's new with Oracle server virtualization on both x86 and SPARC, as well as an update on Oracle's virtualization management capabilities. • Making a level editor for my game

  I am doing a 2D sprite based game in XNA for WP7, The game logic is simple, you start at some point, you want to avoid obstacles and reach a certain goal. obviously I need to make many levels for the game to be challenging and funny. I am considering making a level editor for my game where I can be able to design the level using some kind of GUI then it translates that to a .lvl or something that the game can read and interpret that to a playable level. I am asking for an already made level editor for XNA/WP7.

• Visual Studio Paired Editor Panes

  Is there any way to make Visual Studio have "paired" editor panes, somewhat like XCode's Assistant Editor feature? More specifically, I'd like to replicate the XCode feature of having a .cpp file's .h partner be automatically open in an adjacent editor panel. So, when a .cpp file is opened in a text editor panel (let's say, on the left of the screen), its analogous .h file will open in another panel (on the right). That way both can be edited on the same screen at the same time, without the need to manually place both files in their respective editor panes. Hope that makes sense, I'm not really sure what terminology to use in order to search for existing solutions.

• Dynamic editor upload into web page. Need advice

  Hello everybody, I am writing intranet site for tracking employees science activities in organization. There lots of editable information on each personal page (science degree, publications & so on) so I upload editor per request (user clicks "edit" and modal dialog with html editor: set of textboxes/comboboxes/autocomplete features & validation logic appears). Editor is html layout that is wrapped with jquery dialog plugin + some logic, written as javascript functions that should be invoked from the callee page (onsubmit, validate, afterLoad editor events). There are also attributes (editor preferrable with and height) that are passed to callee page also. Currently I send these functions & attribute as ... function onsubmit() { }; function validate() { } var width = 640; var height = 800 ... code that is embedded into the request page. Function calls and editor markup wrap with jquery plugin completed in the callee page. It works, but I have some try { call editor event handler } catch { } stuff in callee page (because not every editor provides these functions) and some attributes (editor width & height for instance) that are loaded as variables declared in javascript. Please, suggest, is there a better approach to build & use custom editors for my situation. Thank you in advance!

  I need to change the editor for a property attached to a .net PropertyGrid, but I cannot set the Editor attribute of that property, because the property was generated by a tool, including all attributes. The desired editor is System.Windows.Forms.Design.FileNameEditor I can find many tutorials on the web to assign this editor to string properties by setting the editor attribute, but I cannot set the editor attribute in this case. However, I can advise the code generation tool to behave such that the string property which I want to be edited with the FileNameEditor becomes converted to another property with different type. In order to do so, I would need to know which type is edited by the FileNameEditor as default. I didn't find any list on the web which would tell me for a given editor which types employ this editor automatically when displayed in a PropertyGrid.

• A BYOD World in Mobile Enterprise Brings the Need to Adapt

  Yesterday brought a lot of news coverage that Cisco has stopped funding and planning its Cius enterprise-grade tablet.  Citing “market transitions” in which an increasing number of people b ring their own smartphones and tablets to work, Cisco General Manager OJ Winge said in a post on the company's official blog that “Cisco will no longer invest in the Cisco Cius tablet form factor, and no further enhancements will be made to the current Cius endpoint beyond what’s available today.”  Employees are “bringing their preferences to work” and collaboration “has to happen beyond a walled garden,” he said.The blog post also cited a recently released Cisco study which found that 95% of organizations surveyed allow employee-owned devices in some way, shape or form in the office, and, 36% of surveyed enterprises provide full support for employee-owned devices.   How is Cisco planning to move forward to adapt to this changing business environment?  Instead of focusing on tablets for enterprise customers, Cisco will instead "double down" on software that works across a variety of operating systems and smart phones and tablets, Winge said.See the post from the Cisco blog here - http://blogs.cisco.com/collaboration/empowering-choice-in-collaboration/ We at Gizmox recognize this need to adapt to the changing environment.  Our Enterprise Mobile solution is designed and built for that post-PC, BYOD business world.  We recognized the importance of providing a cross-platform solution that can easily target different devices and operating systems. We belong to a team led by some folks possessed by innovation, and this has rubbed on us in a good way. How it started It all started with initiative from Girish, A. A big thank you, goes to him. To get it straight from the horse’ mouth: What is it? - Everybody (as per the published schedule) post a small write-up (not more than say 5/6 lines) regarding any Azure related concept. - We shall consolidate all these mails (which would be 5/week) and quickly discuss/brain storm about it, end of the week i.e. on Fridays. What’s the benefit? - This should make our basic Azure concepts rock-solid. - As part of this exercise, we will have a very good collection of Azure FAQs.
