  • Is there any legal problems for design an operating system?

    Hi everybody.. My wondering is a Programming/Business question, so here what I am thinking about, One of my big goals is to design a Computer Operating System, however if it will be just for fun, knowledge or even to be the next Windows or Linux, so if I had Programmed one, with GUI (windows,lists,buttons,etc..) and for example I will make it for Commercial use, Will Microsoft or Apple comes and drop me in legal problems just like what happened in GUI war between the two of them(Apple and Microsoft)?   • Assign query results to MySQL variable

    I'm querying a big mysql database with only read privileges, and I'd like to set some slow query results to a variable, 'foo', so I can use them again in other queries. I get, ERROR 1193 (HY000): Unknown system variable '$foo' when I enter: set $foo := (select * from table1 join table2 where bar = 0 group by id); Is there a way to do this with variables, since I don't have privileges to create temporary tables?

  • Comparing large strings in JavaScript with a hash

    I have a form with a textarea that can contain large amounts of content (say, articles for a blog) edited using one of a number of third party rich text editors. I'm trying to implement something like an autosave feature, which should submit the content through ajax if it's changed. However, I have to work around the fact that some of the editors I have as options don't support an "isdirty" flag, or an "onchange" event which I can use to see if the content has changed since the last save. So, as a workaround, what I'd like to do is keep a copy of the content in a variable (let's call it lastSaveContent), as of the last save, and compare it with the current text when the "autosave" function fires (on a timer) to see if it's different. However, I'm worried about how much memory that could take up with very large documents. Would it be more efficient to store some sort of hash in the lastSaveContent variable, instead of the entire string, and then compare the hash values? If so, can you recommend a good javascript library/jquery plugin that implements an appropriate hash for this requirement?

  • Is it possible to cache an asp page on the server side?

    Let's assume you have a big complex index page, that shows news articles and stuff. It's not going to change very often. Can you cache it somehow on the serverside, so requests don't force to server to dynamically generate the entire page every time someone visits it? Or does ASP.NET do this automatically? If so, how does it know if something has changed?

    I'm working on a rich text editor like web application, basically a XML editor written in javascript. My javascript code needs to wrap a selection of nodes from the contentEditable div container. I'm using the methods described at MDC. But since I need to synchronize the div containers content to my XML DOM I would like to avoid partial selections as described in w3c ranges: <BODY><H1>Title</H1><P>Blah xyz.</P></BODY ............^----------------^............ This selection starts inside H1 and ends inside P, I'd like it to include H1,P completely. Is there an easy way to extend the selection to cover partially selected children completely? (The code doesn't need to work with opera/IE)

  • How to make c# form mirrored?

    Hello, I have some text in a web browser on my form in visual studio, this form is going to be displayed on a big screen and it's content need to be mirrored(flipped) in order to be seen on the other place through mirror.     I have do an extensive calculation on a big vector of integers. The vector size is not changed during the calculation. The size of the vector is frequently accessed by the code. What is faster in general: using the vector::size() function or using helper constant vectorSize storing the size of the vector? I know that compilers usually able to inline the size() function when setting the proper compiler flags, however, making a function inline is something that a compiler may do but can not be forced.

Now I found example in the book about declaring Enums inside a class but outside any methods so I gave it a shot : Enum CoffeeSize { BIG, HUGE, OVERWHELMING }; In the book its spelled enum and I get this compile message Syntax error, insert ";" to complete BlockStatements Are the Enums that important at all?I mean should I skip it or its possible that I will be using those some day?
