• Firefox dependencies problem on 12.10

  I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.10 today and now am getting the following error: You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these. The following packages have unmet dependencies: firefox-globalmenu : Depends: firefox (= 17.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.12.10.1) but 16.0.1+build1-0ubuntu1 is installed E: Unmet dependencies. Try using -f. • Record 8 separate Line IN Channels from M-Audio Delta 1010 Card

  I want to record the 8 separate Line IN Channels from my M-Audio Delta 1010 Card. The card is recogniced nicely and a can record a single channel via arecord -d 10 -f cd -t wav -D channel1 out2.wav. I've set up the different channels in ~/.asoundrc. Now if I want to record a second channel in parallel (arecord -d 10 -f cd -t wav -D channel2 out2.wav) I get the error arecord: main:564: audio open error: Device or resource busy As I understand the delta 1010 is a single Access Card, so only one application can access it at a time. Is this correct? The next step was to configure a dual channel input in .asoundrc # envy24 channel 1+2 only pcm.test { type plug ttable.0.0 1 ttable.0.1 1 slave.pcm ice1712 } Which works ok when I do a arecord -d 10 -f cd -t wav -D test -c 2 out.wav (BTW can anyone point me to a tool to split a multi channel wav into a file per channel?) But when I want to record the channels separately with (-I option) arecord -d 10 -f cd -t wav -D test -c 2 -I channel1.wav channel2.wav I get no recordings. Did I miss something with the configuration or what are my options to record all 8 channels via arecord. I've no experience with jackd. Is it an option to install jackd and record the line ins via jackd?

• Common Live Upgrade problems

  As I have worked with customers deploying Live Upgrade in their environments, several problems seem to surface over and over. With this blog article, I will try to collect these troubles, as well as suggest some workarounds. If this sounds like the beginnings of a Wiki, you would be right. At present, there is not enough material for one, so we will use this blog for the time being. I do expect new material to be posted on occasion, so if you wish to bookmark it for future reference, a permanent link can be found here. Live Upgrade copies over ZFS root clone This was introduced in Solaris 10 10/09 (u8) and the root of the problem is a duplicate entry in the source boot environments ICF configuration file. Prior to u8, a ZFS root file system was not included in /etc/vfstab, since the mount is implicit at boot time. Starting with u8, the root file system is included in /etc/vfstab, and when the boot environment is scanned to create the ICF file, a duplicate entry is recorded. Here's what the error looks like. # lucreate -n s10u9-baseline Checking GRUB menu... System has findroot enabled GRUB Analyzing system configuration. Comparing source boot environment file systems with the file system(s) you specified for the new boot environment. Determining which file systems should be in the new boot environment. Updating boot environment description database on all BEs. Updating system configuration files. Creating configuration for boot environment . Source boot environment is . Creating boot environment . Populating contents of mount point . This should not happen ------ Copying. Ctrl-C and cleanup If you weren't paying close attention, you might not even know this is an error. The symptoms are lucreate times that are way too long due to the extraneous copy, or the one that alerted me to the problem, the root file system is filling up - again thanks to a redundant copy. This problem has already been identified and corrected, and a patch (121431-58 or later for x86, 121430-57 for SPARC) is available. Unfortunately, this patch has not yet made it into the Solaris 10 Recommended Patch Cluster. Applying the prerequisite patches from the latest cluster is a recommendation from the Live Upgrade Survival Guide blog, so an additional step will be required until the patch is included. • Ubuntu-installer fails preseed configuration file

  I try to install Ubuntu 12.04 over network unattended. I installed a DHCP server (Dnsmasq), a TFTP server (tftpd-hpa), I got the netboot.tar.gz archive with the pxelinux.0 file, the pxelinux.cfg directory, the linux kernel and the initrd.gz image and I put a preseed file into my web server. Dnsmasq, tftpd-hpa, pxelinux and Apache are all on the same machine. The PCs MB doesn’t support PXE, so I use iPXE and boot it from a CD. The PC gets an IP from the DHCP, then iPXE loads #pxelinux.cfg/default, which I edited like this: timeout 5 prompt 0 default install label install kernel ubuntu-installer/i386/linux append vga=normal locale=en_GB setup/layoutcode=sl_SI console-setup/layoutcode=sl_SI netcfg/choose_interface=auto initrd=ubuntu-installer/i386/initrd.gz netcfg/get_hostname=ubuntux preseed/url=#http://192.168.10.10/ins/preseed.cfg Then it loads the linux kernel and the initrd.gz image. Then I got a question: Detect keyboard layout? I desided to bother with this later. So I answer No, and then twice on Englishjust to get trough and then I get to the error: The installer failed to process the preconfiguration file from #http://192.168.10.10/ins/preseeed.cfg. The file may be corrupt. I created the file myself and copied the d-I commands into it. I also tried to get the preseed.cfg over a web browser and it works fine. So why is the installer failing?

I have linux-firmware-nonfree and ivtv-utils installed. I am running Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 64 bit with all updates installed and the default unity environment.   You might assume that if you have root access to an Oracle Solaris zone, you'd be able to change the root's IP address. If so, you'd proceed along these lines ... • vector rotations for branches of a 3d tree

  I'm attempting to create a 3d tree procedurally. I'm hoping that someone can check my vector rotation maths, as I'm a bit confused. I'm using an l-system (a recursive algorithm for generating branches). The trunk of the tree is the root node. It's orientation is aligned to the y axis. In the next iteration of the tree (e.g. the first branches), I might create a branch that is oriented say by +10 degrees in the X axis and a similar amount in the Z axis, relative to the trunk. I know that I should keep a rotation matrix at each branch, so that it can be applied to child branches, along with any modifications to the child branch. My questions then: for the trunk, the rotation matrix - is that just the identity matrix * initial orientation vector ? for the first branch (and subsequent branches) - I'll "inherit" the rotation matrix of the parent branch, and apply x and z rotations to that also. e.g. using glm::normalize; using glm::rotateX; using glm::vec4; using glm::mat4; using glm::rotate; vec4 vYAxis = vec4(0.0f, 1.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f); vec4 vInitial = normalize( rotateX( vYAxis, 10.0f ) ); mat4 mRotation = mat4(1.0); // trunk rotation matrix = identity * initial orientation vector mRotation *= vInitial; // first branch = parent rotation matrix * this branches rotations mRotation *= rotate( 10.0f, 1.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f ); // x rotation mRotation *= rotate( 10.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f, 1.0f ); // z rotation Are my maths and approach correct, or am I completely wrong? • Cron is running but not outputting data

  I'm trying to make my Amazon EC2 instances stop and start by a crontab. EC2 Api tools is succesfully installed. Manually it works. The cron (which I put in with the command crontab -e): 10 * * * * ubuntu /usr/bin/ec2-stop-instances [instanceid] /tmp/ec2.log The file /tmp/ec2.log is created. When I use the command grep CRON /var/log/syslog I see the cron has actually run. I don't get any output in the /tmp/ec2.log file though. I have set all the amazon variables needed. Even if I on purpose create a wrong cron, like this: 10 * * * * ubuntu /usr/bin/ec2-stop-instancwweqes [instanceid] /tmp/ec2.log I get no output in the file. Shouldn't there be an error? I also tried not defining the user: 10 * * * * /usr/bin/ec2-stop-instances [instanceid] /tmp/ec2.log And direct command: 10 * * * * ubuntu ec2-stop-instances [instanceid] /tmp/ec2.log Can someone please help me. If I can somehow debug, I can get to the solution. Thanks in advance.

  I want to use Ubuntu 10.10 Server in a classroom, a computer lab whose bandwidth is provided by a local cable ISP. That's no problem, though the school network has an IP printer that I want to use. I cannot reach the printer through the cable Internet. But, I have two network cards. How is it possible to use both networks at once? eth0 (static 192.168.1.254) is plugged into a four-port router, 192.168.1.1. On the public side of the four-port router is Internet provided by the cable company. I also have the classroom workstations plugged into a switch. The switch is plugged into the four-port router. The whole classroom is wired into the cable Internet. The other NIC, eth1, could it be plugged into an Ethernet jack in the wall? It uses the school network, and I might receive by DHCP an IP address like 10.140.10.100, with the printer on maybe 10.120.50.10. I was thinking about installing the printer on the server so that it could be shared with the workstations. But how does this work? Can I just plug eth1 into the school network and access both LANs?   I'm trying to get my Haier CE682 EVDO modem, model number 201e:1022 to work in ubuntu 12.04 kernel 3.5.0-030500-generic #201207211835 . I am trying to use best practice and not have my code be repetitive. Any suggestions?? The goal is to have 4 stats, to assign points to, with decrement and increment buttons(I decided against sliders). Eventually I will have them have upper and lower limits, decrement the "unused" label, and all of that good stuff, but I just want to not be repetitive. Thanks for any help.

• How to make my simple round sprite look right in XNA

  Ok, I'm very new to graphics programming (but not new to coding). I'm trying to load a simple image in XNA which I can do fine. It is a simple round circle which I made in photoshop. The problem is the edges show up rough when I draw it on the screen even with the exact size. The anti-aliasing is missing. I'm sure I'm missing something very simple: GraphicsDevice.Clear(Color.Black); // TODO: Add your drawing code here spriteBatch.Begin(); spriteBatch.Draw(circle, new Rectangle(10, 10, 10, 10), Color.White); spriteBatch.End(); Couldn't post picture because I'm a first time poster. But my smooth png circle has rough edges. So I found that if I added: spriteBatch.Begin(SpriteSortMode.FrontToBack, BlendState.NonPremultiplied); I can get a smooth image when the image is the same size as the original png. But if I want to scale that image up or down then the rough edges return. How do I get XNA to smoothly resize my simple round image to a smaller size without getting the rough edges?

• JBox2D applyLinearImpulse doesn't work

  So i have this line of code: if(input.isKeyDown(Input.KEY_W)&&canJump()) { body.applyLinearImpulse(new Vec2(0, 30), cam.screenToWorld(body.getPosition())); System.out.println("I can jump!"); } My problem is that the console display I can jump! but the body doesn't do that. Can you explain to me if i do something wrong? Some more code. • How do I position a 2D camera in OpenGL?

  I can't understand how the camera is working. It's a 2D game, so I'm displaying a game map from (0, 0, 0) to (mapSizeX, 0, mapSizeY). I'm initializing the camera as follow : Camera::Camera(void) : position_(0.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f), rotation_(0.0f, 0.0f, -1.0f) {} void Camera::initialize(void) { glMatrixMode(GL_PROJECTION); glLoadIdentity(); glTranslatef(position_.x, position_.y, position_.z); gluPerspective(70.0f, 800.0f/600.0f, 1.0f, 10000.0f); gluLookAt(0.0f, 6000.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f, -1.0f, 0.0f, 1.0f, 0.0f); glMatrixMode(GL_MODELVIEW); glLoadIdentity(); glEnable(GL_DEPTH_TEST); glDepthFunc(GL_LEQUAL); } So the camera is looking down. I currently see the up right border of the map in the center of my window and the map expand to the down left border of my window. I would like to center the map. The logical thing to do should be to move the camera to eyeX = mapSizeX / 2 and the same for z. My map has 10 x 10 cases with CASE = 400, so I should have : gluLookAt((10 / 2) * CASE /* = 2000 */, 6000.0f, (10 / 2) * CASE /* = 2000 */, 0.0f, 0.0f, -1.0f, 0.0f, 1.0f, 0.0f); But that doesn't move the camera, but seems to rotate it. Am I doing something wrong? EDIT : I tried that: gluLookAt(2000.0f, 6000.0f, 0.0f, 2000.0f, 0.0f, -1.0f, 0.0f, 1.0f, 0.0f); Which correctly moves the map in the middle of the window in width. But I can't move if correctly in height. It always returns the axis Z. When I go up, It goes down and the same for right and left. I don't see the map anymore when I do : gluLookAt(2000.0f, 6000.0f, 2000.0f, 2000.0f, 0.0f, 2000.0f, 0.0f, 1.0f, 0.0f);

• Creating Gun objects with upgrades?

  I have a series of guns in my game. I use the Gun class/object like this: (Just an example) @interface Gun : NSObject { NSString *name; // Six-shooter NSNumber *cost; NSNumber *clipPrice; // ie: 700 NSNumber *clipCapacity; // 6 NSNumber *ammoCapacity; // 6 NSNumber *damage; // 0-10 NSNumber *accuracy; // 0-10 NSNumber *fireRate; // 0-10 NSNumber *range; // 0-10 // Not sure if I have all the stats, but this is fine for now } Lets say I want to have 3 upgrades per gun. My problem is I am not sure how to do this. Examples: increase fire-rate increase range increase accuracy silencer double ammo capacity (ie: Drum) double clip capacity (ie: Taped magazine) Thus my question is, I'd like to implement an upgrade system to guns but I am not sure how to do it. Would there be an Upgrade object which is a child to the Gun class, or would it be seperate class altogether. Thanks for your time.
