• set label value in vb.net

  Hi-- I'm usually a PHP guy but got stuck doing a project in vb.net. I have a query (sqldatasource) that returns a single value (the last update date). I want to use a label to say something like "Last updated: " < Label = (returned value) In PHP this would be simple. In vb.net, all I can find are endless badly written code behinds showing how you'd execute the query onLoad then bind it to the label. Is this really the only way to do this? It seems like a ridiculously simple problem to have such a long solution. I have used a datagrid control to just bind the query result directly, but it prints the column name as well as the date, so it's not ideal. Any ideas?

• Can the behaviour of new HTML5 form types be overridden?

  I was wondering if anyone knew if it were possible to override the default behaviour of browsers that support the new HTML input types such as type="email" and type="date"? I appreciate that I could test if a browser supports an input type and provide a fallback for those browsers that don't, but what I want to know is is there any way to prevent that default behaviour from happening in browsers that do support it? For instance, if in Opera I want to use the date input type, but I don't want Opera to display the native datepicker (i.e. I want to replace it with my own custom one) is that possible? Are there any DOM events triggered like onDatePickerShow that one can hook into? I don't believe that this is possible, but if anyone knows for sure one way or the other I would love to hear from you.

• Select from mysql by day with different timezones (php)

  I'm storing leads in a database, and each lead has a datetime field with a PST timezone based date & time. I want my user to be able to display all leads from a certain date (e.g. today, yseterday), and choose the timezone. E.g. if I want to see all leads that were generated yesterday in EST timezone, I need to first convert (or read) all the datetime values to EST, and then only select those who are in the right range (yesterday). What would be the best way to do that?

• IE6 not rendering the page

  I have a web page which consists of a few component pages. When a user requests the page, the server assembles its component pages into the main page and sends it back to the browser. When there is an update on the component page, IE6 browser cannot see the updated content. However, IE7 and Firefox are fine. Checking with Fiddler, the http response returns 200, If-Modified-Since header is the same as the last modified date of the main page, the response raw html also has the updated content. It seems that IE6 browser abandons the rendering of the page because If-Modified-Since is the same as the last modified date of the main page. Does anyone know how to overcome this issue in IE6?

• Assistance using respond_to to find the right actions to render PDF in ruby on rails

  Hi, I am trying out Prince with the Princely plugin, which is supposed to format templates that have the .pdf into a PDF generator. Here is my controller: class TodoController < ApplicationController def show_date @date = Date.today @campaigns = Campaign.all @contacts = Contact.all @contacts.each do |contact| end respond_to do |format| format.html format.pdf do render :pdf => "filename", :stylesheets => ["application", "prince"], :layout => "pdf" end end end end I changed the routes.db to include the following: map.connect ':controller/:action.:format' map.todo "todo/today", :controller => "todo", :action => "show_date" My expected behavior is when I enter todo/today.pdf, it tries to execute show_date, but renders according to the princely plugin. Right now, it says cannot find action. What do I need to do to fix this?

• Why did mislav-will_paginate start adding so much garbage to urls between rails 2.3.2 and 2.3.5?

  I've used will_paginate in a number of projects now, but when I moved one of them to Rails 2.3.5, clicking on any of the pagination links (page number, next, prev, etc.,) went from getting nice URLs like this: http://foo.com/user/1/date/2005_01_31/phone/555-6161 to this: http://foo.com/?options[]=user&options[]=date&options[]=2005_01_31&options[]=phone&options[]=555-6161 I have a route that looks like this that is probably the source of the 'options' keyword: map.connect '/browse/*options', :controller=>'assets', :action=>'browse' It's enough of an annoyance that I'm willing to roll a paginator to get around this if there isn't a way to get back to where I was before. Is there a way to get will_paginate to turn array-style routes into sane urls again? Thanks.

  Currently I'm using a for statement in PHP to get all the months for this SQL statement, but would like to know if I can do it all with SQL. Basically I have to get the average listing price, and the average selling price for each month going back 1 year where the sellingdate = the month. simple with PHP, but that creates 12 database hits.   When calculating the load factor of a hashtable with an open-addressing array implementation I am using: numberOfKeysInArray/sizeOfArray however it occurred to me that since deleted entries must be marked as such (to distinguish them from empty spaces), it might make sense to include these in the number of keys. My thinking is that as far as estimating the average number of probes to find an entry, deleted entries should count towards the load factor, but as far as inserting a new key they should not. Which is the proper calculation: including deleted keys or not?

  Say I have this line of code in the view. <?php echo CHtml::activeTextField($model,'start_time'); ?> start_time is a UNIX timestamp. When just displaying it in a view I can apply functions like date() on it. Where should I apply the formatting when I'm displaying it in a form, by using the above line of code? (This case of timestamps/dates might be special, but I'm also interested in how would one go about if it wasn't a date and I just want to work with "value in database" < "different representations of the value in different views. • Running same powershell script multiple asynchronous times with separate runspace

  Hi, I have a powershell script which is called by a batch script which is called by Trap Receiver (which also passes environment variables) (running on windows 2008). The traps are flushed out at times in sets of 2-4 trap events, and the batch script will echo the trap details for each message to a logfile, but the powershell script on the next line of the batch script will only appear to process the first trap message (the powershell script writes to the same logfile). My interpetation is that the defaultrunspace is common to all iterations of the script running and this is why the others appear to be ignored. I've tried adding "-sta" when I invoke the powershell script using "powershell.exe -command", but this didn't help. I've researched and found a method using C# but I don't know this language, and busy enough learning powershell, so hoping to find a more direct solution especially as interleaving a "wrapper" between batch and powershell will involve passing the environment variables. http://www.codeproject.com/KB/threads/AsyncPowerShell.aspx I've hunted through stackoverflow, and again the only question of similar vein was using C#. Any suggestions welcome. Some script background: The powershell script is actually a modification of a great script found at gregorystrike website - cant post the link as I'm limited to one link but its the one for Lefthand arrays. Lots of mods so it can do multiple targets from one .ini file, taking in the environment variables, and options to run portions of the script interactively with winform. But you can see the gist of the original script. The batch script is pretty basic. I'm trying to detect when a radio button is called (intRev_yes), check if a div is empty, slide down another div and then call a custome function which dynamically creates a date field. if(this.id=="intRev_yes"){ if($('div#mainField').is(':empty')){ $('.intRevSections').slideDown('slow',function(){ current=-1; addIrField(); }); } } When I alert out at each stage, after getting to the end (i.e. addIrField()), the script seems to go back to the slideDown() section and recalls addIrField(). I can't understand why, there are no loops. current is used as an index for the date field.

• Django admin causes high load for one model...

  In my Django admin, when I try to view/edit objects from one particular model class the memory usage and CPU rockets up and I have to restart the server. I can view the list of objects fine, but the problem comes when I click on one of the objects. Other models are fine. Working with the object in code (i.e. creating and displaying) is ok, the problem only arises when I try to view an object with the admin interface. The class isn't even particularly exotic: class Comment(models.Model): user = models.ForeignKey(User) thing = models.ForeignKey(Thing) date = models.DateTimeField(auto_now_add=True) content = models.TextField(blank=True, null=True) approved = models.BooleanField(default=True) class Meta: ordering = ['-date'] Any ideas? I'm stumped. The only reason I could think of might be that the thing is quite a large object (a few kb), but as I understand it, it wouldn't get loaded until it was needed (correct?).

  I'm trying to create a simple Silverlight application that involves parsing a CSV file and displaying the results in a DataGrid. I've configured my application to parse the CSV file to return a List<CSVTransaction> that contains properties with names: Date, Payee, Category, Memo, Inflow, Outflow. The user clicks a button to select a file to parse, at which point I want the DataGrid object to be populated. I'm thinking I want to use data binding, but I can't seem to figure out how to get the data to show up in the grid.
