• Combining features from other projects in an ASP.NET MVC application

  Hello, I am writing an ASP.NET MVC application that combines a set of features from existing applications. The new application is suppose to use UI features and logic created (especially for this purpose) in the existing applications. For that reason I wanted to create in the existing applications some kind of a "blackbox" that I will be able to drop in my new application along with a matching connection string, and it will work independently, binding data on it's own. I thought about using partial views, but I am having trouble with passing the model data to it, since the controller of the new application should not know about the model of the existing applications. I can not use ASP.NET WebForms, since my application should be a "postback-less" application, and ASP.NET AJAX toolkit or frameworks alike are out of the question. • Rails: How to toggle a boolean field from a view?

  Very simple question. I have a boolean field called "saved" in my database. I want to toggle this field by clicking on a text link that changes from "Save" to "Unsave" depending on the situation, and updates my "Customer" table with 0 or 1. I imagine Javascript may be a way to go for this but I am not experienced enough (yet!) in Javascript to know how to code it. What is the best way to approach this problem, and how can I find the code I would need to drop into my view to make this toggle work? Thank you very much.

• Select list value undefined in $(document).ready

  I have the following code, which I want to load values on a selection change, and also do the selection load initially (since FF 'saves' the last value of the drop down under certain circumstances). The select part of the function works correctly, but for some reason when calling load2 directly the value of $('#select1').value is undefined, even though when I check the DOM in Firebug right after load select1.value has a value. • .NET WebService IPC - Should it be done to minimise some expensive operations?

  I'm looking at a few different approaches to a problem: Client requests work, some stuff gets done, and a result (ok/error) is returned. A .NET web service definitely seems like the way to go, my only issue is that the "stuff" will involve building up and tearing down a session for each request. Does abstracting the "stuff" out to an app (which would keep a single session active, and process the request from the web service) seem like the right way to go? (and if so, what communication method) The work time is negligible, my concern is the hammering the transaction servers in question will probably get if I create/drop a session for each job. Is some form of IPC or socket based communication a feasible solution here? Thoughts/comments/experiences much appreciated. Edit: After a bit more research, it seems like hosting a WCF service in a Windows Service is probably a better way to go...

• How to use Code Igniter to show Dynamic images via javascript(jQuery).

  You can use the URL helper in Code Igniter to load CSS and Javascript with the base_url() method, but what if you have images dynamically being placed into your HTML via javascript? for example in my javascript file I've got var arrowimages={down:['downarrowclass', 'images/down.png', 23], right:['rightarrowclass', 'images/right.png']} and those images will be placed into whatever menu item I've specified has a drop down menu. but that file is a .js file so obviously the server won't load php inside of it. so, how can I set the base url for the JS? • Adding a new column to Table which contains live data

  I have a large table consisting of over 60 millions records and I would like to add 2 new columns for data migration purposes. There are indexes on the table and some of them are large. So, by me adding the 2 new columns to the table, will I run the risk of slowing down the database whilst it attempts to add them and maybe time-out? Or will it just work? I know that if I try and rearrange the columns SQL Server will ask me to drop and re-create the table, so I definately don't want this. Is this something everyone is challenged with?

  CSS frameworks have nice styles inbuilt and ask you to focuses on the grids but still there is a bit of dependency and lack of freedom it provide.. If I need to generate a webpage by looking on a PSD based mockup screen ..either i will use the classes provided by the framework but if that actual measurements does not exist I need to again specify my own rules that will add upto my CSS filesize and if performance is a constraint as always it is...you need not a big size file..though its in kb but every drop counts. Any comments and suggestions to use the framework in a best possible way.

• Can you hide tables from a MySQL user in phpMyAdmin?

  I have a MySQL user added to a database that I would like to prevent from viewing certain tables. I can limit their privileges through MySQL by preventing them from running statements like DROP or ALTER. But is it possible to prevent them from viewing certain tables in phpMyAdmin? If there isn't a MySQL privilege that controls this (I wouldn't imagine there would be), is there a configuration in phpMyAdmin that allows this? I understand one workaround here is to move the tables to a new database that they're not added to. This isn't an option for my application.

• Approach for altering Primary Key from GUID to BigInt in SQL Server related tables

  I have two tables with 10-20 million rows that have GUID primary keys and at leat 12 tables related via foreign key. The base tables have 10-20 indexes each. We are moving from GUID to BigInt primary keys. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on an approach. Right now this is the approach I'm pondering: Drop all indexes and fkeys on all the tables involved. Add 'NewPrimaryKey' column to each table Make the key identity on the two base tables Script the data change "update table x, set NewPrimaryKey = y where OldPrimaryKey = z Rename the original primarykey to 'oldprimarykey' Rename the 'NewPrimaryKey' column 'PrimaryKey' Script back all the indexes and fkeys Does this seem like a good approach? Does anyone know of a tool or script that would help with this? TD: Edited per additional information. • Why Eclipse does not see .jar file of a library?

  I have a java project in which I have "Referenced Libraries". In the "Referenced Libraries" I have a .jar file of a library that I use (I use only one external library). When I try to "Run - Run" the code I have a NullPointerException. From my previous experience I know that it it (very likely) because my code does not see the library. I just started to use Eclipse and it can be the I do not "connect" libraries in a correct way. Should I use some options or additional action to force Eclipse to see the .jar file of the library? ADDED: By the right click on the library I get a drop-down menu in which I see "Build Path". My be I need to do something there?

• How do I view the CMake command line statement that Qt Creator executes?

  I'm attempting to debug a command line CMake failure. The same CMake file works in Qt Creator, with the arguments in the Qt Creator window matching what I have entered on the command line. This makes me think Qt Creator is adding some extra arguments, which makes sense since the generator drop down has several options that specify architecture and CMake version. Is there a way to get the CMake command that Qt Creator executed to produce the desired result, specifically the arguments passed to the CMake executable? I found one post that talks about viewing the CMakeCache files to do some forensics, but this only proves there are differences, it doesn't quickly show me what arguments to change.

  Hello I would like to start developing a lifeRay theme and am a little bit lost! I am a Mac user and i have installed liferay and also Xcode but i am not clear how to begin. I have downloaded the SDK for liferay but i do not understand how to install it or use it for that matter, so questions: Is Xcode an appropriate development environment to work with or is something else a little easier to get on with? Does Xcode build in the same way ANT does? How do i install the SDK? Do i just drop it into Tomcat and away i go? Yes i am very new to all this!! • Resolving Assemblies, the fuzzy way

  Here's the setup: A pure DotNET class library is loaded by an unmanaged desktop application. The Class Library acts as a plugin. This plugin loads little baby plugins of its own (all DotNET Class Libraries), and it does so by reading the dll into memory as a byte-stream, then Assembly asm = Assembly.Load(COFF_Image); The problem arises when those little baby plugins have references to other dlls. Since they are loaded via the memory rather than directly from the disk, the framework often cannot find these referenced assemblies and is thus incapable of loading them. I can add an AssemblyResolver handler to my project and I can see these referenced assemblies drop past. I have a reasonably good idea about where to find these referenced assemblies on the disk, but how can I make sure that the Assmebly I load is the correct one? In short, how do I reliably go from the System.ResolveEventArgs.Name field to a dll file path, presuming I have a list of all the folders where this dll could be hiding)?

  I have a drop down which has a method which binds data to it: dropDown.Items.Clear() dropDown.AppendDataBoundItems = True Select Case selType Case SelectionTypes.Empty dropDown.Items.Insert(0, New ListItem("", "")) Case SelectionTypes.Any dropDown.Items.Insert(0, New ListItem("ANY", "")) Case SelectionTypes.Select dropDown.Items.Insert(0, New ListItem("Select One", "")) End Select BindDropDown(val) The BindDropDown method simply sets the datasource, datakeyname, datavaluename, and then databinds the data. For a reason which I cannot avoid, I MUST call this method twice sometimes. When it is called twice, All of the databound items show up two times, but the top item (the one I manually insert) is there only once. Is ASP doing something wierd when i databind twice even though i clear the list between? Or does it have to do something with the viewstate/controlstate? EDIT__ The entire page, and this control has EnableViewState="false" EDIT___ The dropdown is inside a form view. After the selected value is set I have to rebind the dropdown just in case the selected value is not there [because it is an inactive user]. After this, the formview duplicates the databound items.

  Hello, sorry if this questions is overly basic or has been asked before but I simply cannot figure it out. On my Ruby on Rails site, I have a controller that accesses the fields of a table in my database and displays their "Name" field as a drop-down menu in one of my views. My problem is I need to change the options of that dropdown menu so I need a way to get into the MySQL database and change the values of those fields. Anyone know of a way to do this? • Excel 2007 - Worksheet is larger than the window

  Hi This is an odd problem but frustrating none the less. I have a worksheet saved which is larger than the Excel 2007 "workarea". This means when I open the worksheet I cannot access the corners of the worksheet to reduce the size and the worksheets title bar area (with move,size,minimise etc) is hidden beneath the ribbon , even if I remove the ribbon , I still can't see the title bar. In Excel 2003 I've had a similar effect but I've always been able to hit the "alt" key to access the "Move" option. However in Excel 2007 , hitting "alt" brings up some shortcuts for the ribbon etc but I can't access the worksheet options. Has anyone else know how to access the worksheet drop down when this happens?

• Watir question regarding selecting a hidden dropdown.

  Hi, I have two dropdowns, the second dropdown does not show until a choice is made from the first one. Using watir, i can select the first dropdown, and when i watch it, the second one becomes active, but it cannot select it. i just tried the regular select_list using name and id. • Session troubles when used on BT hosting

  Hello I have developed a site for a client with a pre-existing BT hosting package. Since going live there has been a problem where $_session loses it's data between pages. I have previously fixed the problem, but somehow it has become unfixed. Last time this problem happened, my research indicated that there is something funny with BT's setup when using sessions, and that article provided this code: if(ini_get('register_globals') == 1) if(is_array($_SESSION)) foreach(array_keys($_SESSION) as $var_to_kill) unset($$var_to_kill); Which even though it looks broken to me, did in fact reduce the problem to a very low level. (i.e one drop out a day). However, today my client is in touch again and surprise surprise, the problem is back. Does anyone know of a solution? (My client has already stated they will not change hosts!) Oliver

• Actionscript blur/shadows/glows how heavy are they on the processor?

  Hi, I have say 10 items in a particular space, If I apply glows and drop shadows to all of them and all of these items are usually static. Other characters do move around them too. So I'm just wondering would it be wise to use vectors with actionscript blurs and glows. Or to have a PNG? and if I cannot have a PNG and have to work with vectors with glows/blurs/shadows. Would they be too heavy on the processor?
