  Hi. i am a noob in xcode. I am developing an iphone app where i need to send and receive data from a web service. And i need to store them temporarily in my app. i dont want to use sqlite. so i was wondering if i should use core data for this purpose. I read some articles but i still dont have a clear picture of how to do it, coz i have used core data only with sqlite. I want to do the following things : Will receive table data from a web service. Have to perform certain calculations on those fields. Will send the data back in xml format to the server. How do i convert the xml data into int, date or any other data type? and how do i store it in managed data objects? Can anyone please help me with this??? thnx for your time.

• How to handle subclasses in JasperReports?

  I've two classes (A and B) that extend a base class BASE. I need to make a report that takes an array of such classes and the prints the fields of A or B. I tought of using conditional expressions, then casting to one or another (depending on a field value). But I can't cast, because I don't know how to refere to the current bean. To do this I am using a JRBeanCollectionDataSource filled with a List<BASE>. How do I cast every bean to A or B in a report (or subreport)? I tried: ((A)this) but it says basically that this contains the report instance, not the current bean and gives error.

• Facebook Connect settings for popup dialog

  I'm in the process of implementing Facebook Connect for my site, everything seems to be working fine so far except that the look of my popup dialog upon clicking on "Login with Facebook" is totally different from what I see on other sites like say Posterous. I'm only getting a popup with the msg "Do you want to log in to with your Facebook account?" followed by the 2 login fields whereas Posterous has a more detailed dialog box with 2 images and more descriptive text. Am i missing out on some configuration settings here or? Thanks

• ASP.NET Dates Deployment Issue

  Hi guys, I recently bought some webspace with dailyrazor.com. I have deployed an application I have been working on to the server and am currently trying to workout the bugs but I can't seem to solve this one. I have set up my database in Visual Studio to use the one I have create with dailyrazor the same db the deployed version will use. I am using British Dates and on my localhost datetime is displayed: 27/05/2010 09:00 However on the dailyrazor host it is displayed: 5/27/2010 9:00 AM Short Dates e.g. 27/04/2010 display the same on both servers. This is causing some issues when entering data as errors occur on date fields. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jon

• Waiting on multiple asynchronous calls to complete before continuing

  So, I have a page that loads and through jquery.get makes several requests to populate drop downs with their values. $(function() { LoadCategories($('#Category')); LoadPositions($('#Position')); LoadDepartments($('#Department')); LoadContact(); }; It then calls LoadContact(); Which does another call, and when it returns it populates all the fields on the form. The problem is that often, the dropdowns aren't all populated, and thus, it can't set them to the correct value. What I need to be able to do, is somehow have LoadContact only execute once the other methods are complete and callbacks done executing. But, I don't want to have to put a bunch of flags in the end of the drop down population callbacks, that I then check, and have to have a recursive setTimeout call checking, prior to calling LoadContact(); Is there something in jQuery that allows me to say, "Execute this, when all of these are done."?

When i update/modify the record, dateModified and dateCreated remains as is? What should i do? Obviously, i need to dateCreated value to remain as was inserted the first time and dateModified keeps changing when a change/modification occurs in the record fields. In other words, can you please write a sample quick trigger? I don't know much yet... Any help will be appreciated.

• SQL Server ORDER BY/WHERE with nested select

  I'm trying to get SQL Server to order by a column from a nested select. I know this isn't the best way of doing this but it needs to be done. I have two tables, Bookings and BookingItems. BookingItems contains StartDate and EndDate fields, and there can be multiple BookingItems on a Booking. I need to find the earliest startdate and latest end date from BookingItems, then filter and sort by these values. I've tried with a nested select, but when I try to use one of the selected columns in a WHERE or ORDER BY, I get an "Invalid Column Name". SELECT b.*, (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM bookingitems i WHERE b.BookingID = i.BookingID) AS TotalRooms, (SELECT MIN(i.StartDate) FROM bookingitems i WHERE b.BookingID = i.BookingID) AS StartDate, (SELECT MAX(i.EndDate) FROM bookingitems i WHERE b.BookingID = i.BookingID) AS EndDate FROM bookings b LEFT JOIN customers c ON b.CustomerID = c.CustomerID WHERE StartDate >= '2010-01-01' Am I missing something about SQL ordering? • C++ a class with an array of structs, without knowing how large an array I need

  New to C++, and for that matter OO programming. I have a class with fields like firstname, age, school etc. I need to be able to store other information like for instance, where they have travelled, and what year it was in. I cannot declare another class specifically to hold travelDestination and what year, so I think a struct might be best. This is just an example: struct travel { string travelDest; string year; }; The issue is people are likely to have travelled different amounts. I was thinking of just having an array of travel structs to hold the data. But how do I create a fixed sized array to hold them, without knowing how big I need it to be? Perhaps I am going about this the completely wrong way, so any suggestions as to a better way would be appreciated.

  I am working on an ASP.NET MVC based CMS that presents a rather extreme case. The system must allow the user to add custom content types based on different fields, and for every field, one can add options and validations. The thing is that everything is stored in a complex DB and extracted at runtime using LINQ. I am pretty fresh with ASPNET MVC so the following dilemma came to mind How should I make the content creation view so that form helpers are not predefined int he view code but are loaded based on the type of the field ? Do I have to create a factory class that checks the value of the type property of the field, and then returns a helper based on that or there's a better way to do it. This one seems pretty rigid to me , because anytime I make a change in the Fieldtypes table, I will have to make sure to create a check for that new type too.

• What is the correct way to unit test areas around exceptions

  Hi, Looking at our code coverage of our unit tests we're quite high. But the last few % is tricky because a lot of them are catching things like database exceptions - which in normal circumstances just dont happen. For example the code prevents fields being too long etc, so the only possible database exceptions are if the DB is broken/down, or if the schema is changed under our feet. So is the only way to Mock the objects such that the exception can be thrown? That seems a little bit pointless. Perhaps it's better to just accept not getting 100% code coverage? Thanks, Dan

I use System.Reflection and FieldInfo.GetValue() method; Bu I cant get subItem field. FieldInfo.GetValue() method return type is "object". And I cant cast to GenericClass<DerivedClass1> or I cant get DerivedClass1 type. I try this with BaseClass BaseClass instance = FieldInfo.Getvalue(this) as GenericClass<BaseClass>; but instance is null. How to get instance with type or how to get only type?

I know now that I need to attach an entity before making my changes to it. But how can do I do this: I have an MVC website, a Customer Update Page with fields: ID, Name, Address, etc. My MVC is parsing this into a Customer entity. How do I do the following: Update my entity and Save the changes to it. Catch the exception if my changes have been made since I loaded my entity.

Was this ever not the case,are there any inheritance OO languages that are messed up like that for class methods?

  I have the following problem that needs to be solved in a MySQL query: Fields info - textfield date1 - a date field date2 - a date field offset1 - a text field with a number in the first two positions, example "10-High" offset2 - a text field with a number in the first two positions, example "10-High" I need to sort the records by the calculated "sortvalue" based on the current date (today): If today=date2 then sortvalue=offset1*10+offset2*5+1000 else sortvalue=offset1*10+offset2*5 I have quite good understanding of basic SQL with joins etc, but this I am not even sure if its possible...if it helps I could perhaps live with a single formula giving the same sort of effect as the IFs do....ie. before date1 = low value, after date2 = high value... • Can't see or add Website Data Sources in RDLC report in ASP.NET MVC

  In the RDLC report, in Design view in Visual Studio 2008, we don't see anything in the Website Data Sources tab and the button to Add New Data Source is grayed out. Only the Refresh button is enabled, and clicking it doesn't do anything. Our business logic layer returns Lists of business objects and the business logic and business object projects are both referenced by the MVC project. This is an MVC app, so there is no App_Code folder. How do we get our business objects to appear in the Website Data Sources list so we can drag and drop fields from the object onto our RDLC report?

• Fetch main model and translations in one query with globalize2

  Is there a way to fetch the model and the translations in one query when using globalize2? For example, having a model called Language which have two fields, code and name of which the second is translatable I do the following: en = Language.find_by_code("en") and it runs this query: SELECT SQL_NO_CACHE * FROM `languages` WHERE (`languages`.`code` = 'en') LIMIT 1 and when I do: en.name it runs: SELECT SQL_NO_CACHE * FROM `language_translations` WHERE (`language_translations`.language_id = 123 AND (`language_translations`.`locale` IN ('en','root'))) and if I do it again it'll re-run the query. Is there a way to fetch all the translated data in the first query? I've tried: en = Language.find_by_code("en", :joins => "JOIN language_translations ON language_translations.language_id = languages.id") but it made no difference.   I could not figure out the logic I would need to display a current minute of a soccer match. I have three fields in the database. DateFirstStarted DateSecondStarted DateFullEnded I should enter DateFirstStarted when the game starts and on the website. i.e. game starts at 7:05pm, on 7:25pm it should display '20 on the website. However, it should stop on the 45th minute. Then, I enter DateSecondStarted when the second half starts and should count from 46 to 90 and freeze there. Do I make sense? How can I do it? Is there a better way to do this?

• RDLC item width is dynamic and causing extra pages to be generated (image included)?

  I'm trying to format an RDLC report file in Visual Studio 2008 and I am having a formatting issue. I have a list at the bottom that contains a matrix that expands horizontally to the right. That pink box is just to visualize the problem I'm having. When the report is rendered the matrix expands and instead of filling the pink box with the matrix is pushes the space in the pink box to the right resulting in an extra page when printing the reports. One solution would be to shrink the pink box to be the size of the matrix which I've done. But then when the matrix grows the fields at the top of the report get pushed to the right by the same amount as the growth of the matrix. Can someone please let me know what they think the solution would be? Thank you!

• Rails - How do i update a records value in a join model ?

  I have a join model in a HABTM relationship with a through association (details below). I 'm trying to find a record....find the value of that records attribute...change the value and update the record but am having a hard time doing it. The model setup is this User.rb has_many :choices has_many :interests, :through => :choices Interest.rb has_many :choices has_many :users, :through => :choices Choice.rb belongs_to :user belongs_to :interest and Choice has the user_id, interest_id, score as fields. And I find the ?object? like so @choice = Choice.where(:user_id => @user.id, :interest_id => interest.id) So the model Choice has an attribute called :score. How do I find the value of the score column....and +1/-1 it and then resave? I tried @choice.score = @choice.score + 1 @choice.update_attributes(params[:choice]) flash[:notice] = "Successfully updated choices value." but I get "undefined method score"......What did i miss?

• Databinding multiple tables linq query to gridview?

  My question is how can I display a linq query in a gridview that has data from multiple tables AND allow the user to edit some of the fields or delete the data from a single table? I'd like to do this with either a linqdatasource or a linq query. I'm aware I can set the e.Result to the query on the selecting event. I've also been able to build a custom databound control for displaying the linq relations (parent.child). However, I'm not sure how I can make this work with delete? I'm thinking I may need to handle the delete event with custom code.

• How to efficiently manage files on a filesystem in Java?

  I am creating a few JAX-WS endpoints, for which I want to save the received and sent messages for later inspection. To do this, I am planning to save the messages (XML files) into filesystem, in some sensible hierarchy. There will be hundreds, even thousands of files per day. I also need to store metadata for each file. I am considering to put the metadata (just a couple of fields) into database table, but the XML file content itself into files in a filesystem in order not to bloat the database with content data (that is seldomly read). Is there some simple library that helps me in saving, loading, deleting etc. the files? It's not that tricky to implement it myself, but I wonder if there are existing solutions? Just a simple library that already provides easy access to filesystem (preferrably over different operating systems). Or do I even need that, should I just go with raw/custom Java?
