  • Output Caching with IIS7 - How To for an dynamic aspx page?

    I have a RetrieveBlob.aspx that gets some query string variables and returns an asset. Eeach url corresponds to a unique asset. In the RetrieveBlob.aspx a Cache Profile is set. In Web.Config the profile looks like (under system.web tag: <caching> <outputCache enableOutputCache="true" /> <outputCacheSettings> <outputCacheProfiles> <add duration="14800" enabled="true" varyByParam="*" name="AssetCacheProfile" /> </outputCacheProfiles> </outputCacheSettings> </caching> Ok, this works fine. When I put a breakpoint in the code behind of RetrieveBlob.aspx, it gets triggered the first time, and all the other times not.   • Software Architecture and MEF composition location

    Introduction My software (a bunch of webapi's) consist of 4 projects: Core, FrontWebApi, Library and Administration. Library is a code library project that consists of only interfaces and enumerators. All my classes in other projects inherit from at least one interface, and this interface is in the library. Generally speaking, my interfaces define either Entities, Repositories or Controllers. This project references no other project or any special dlls... just the regular .Net stuff... Core is a class-library project where concrete implementation of Entities and Repositories. In some cases i have more than 1 implementation for a Repository (ex: one for azure table storage and one for regular Sql). This project handles the intelligence (business rules mostly) and persistence, and it references only the Library. FrontWebApi is a ASP.NET MVC 4 WebApi project that implements the controllers interfaces to handle web-requests (from a mobile native app)... It references the Core and the Library. Administration is a code-library project that represents a "optional-module", meaning: if it is present, it provides extra-features (such as Access Control Lists) to the application, but if its not, no problem. Administration is also only referencing the Library and implementing concrete classes of a few interfaces such as "IAccessControlEntry"... I intend to make this available with a "setup" that will create any required database table or anything like that. But it is important to notice that the Core has no reference to this project... Development Now, in order to have a decoupled code I decide to use IoC and because this is a small project, I decided to do it using MEF, specially because of its advertised "composition" capabilities. I arranged all the imports/exports and constructors and everything, but something is quite not perfect in my "mental-visualisation": Main Question Where should I "Compose" the objects? I mean: Technically, the only place where real implementation access is required is in the Repositories, because in order to retrieve data from wherever, entities instances will be necessary, and in all other places. The repositories could also provide a public "GetCleanInstanceOf()" right? Then all other places will be just fine working with the interfaces instead of concrete classes... Secondary Question Should "Administration" implement the concrete object for "IAccessControlGeneralRepository" or the Core should?

  • Kickstart: Serve dynamic kickstart images via a CGI or PHP script?

    I'd like to kickstart a couple dozen RHEL6/SL6 servers. However, some of these servers are different and I don't want to create a new ks.cfg file for each class of server. Are there any products which can generate a Kickstart file dynamically on the fly, from a template? For example, if I append a line like this to the KERNEL: APPEND ks=http://192.168.1.100/cgi-bin/ks.cgi Then the script ks.cgi can determine what host this is (Via the MAC address), and print out Kickstart options which are appropriate for that host. I could optionally override some options by passing parameters to the script, like this: APPEND ks=http://192.168.1.100/cgi-bin/ks.cgi?NODETYPE=production&IP=192.168.2.80 After we kickstart the server, we activate Cfengine/Puppet on this system and manage the system using our favorite Configuration Management product. We're experimenting with xCAT but it is proving too cumbersome. I've looked into Cobbler, but I'm not sure it does this. Update: A roll-your-own solution is discussed in the O'Reilly book: Managing RPM-Based Systems with Kickstart and Yum, Chapter 3. Customizing Your Kickstart Install Dynamic ks.cfg, which echos some of the comments in this thread: To implement such a tool is beyond the scope of this Short Cut, but I can walk through the high-level design. Any such solution would mix a data store (the things that change) with a templating solution (the things that don’t change). The data store would hold the per-machine data, such as the IP address and hostname. You would also need a unique identifier, perhaps the hostname, such that you could pick up a given machine’s data. The data store could be a flat file, XML data, or a relational database such as PostgreSQL or MySQL. In turn, to invoke the system, you pass a machine’s unique identifier as a URL parameter. For example: boot: linux ks=http://your.kickstart.server/gen_config?host-server25 In this example, the CGI (or servlet, or whatever) generates a ks.cfg for the machine server25. But where, oh where, is the code for ks.cgi?

    For me jQuery is the 'Plan-B' for everything.And most of my projects include the use of jQuery for something or the other, so I decided to write a small note on what works best while using jQuery along with SharePoint.I prefer to use the jQuery JavaScript library, which is far more robust, easier to use, and allows for plugins. Follow the steps below to add jQuery to your master page. For office 365, the prefered location to add jQuery files is the "Site Asserts" library.Deployment Best PracticesThey are only as good as the context it’s being referenced.  In other words, take into account your world before applying it.Script your deployment options.  Folder in SPD. Use the file system.  Make external references.  The JQuery library is on the Microsoft Ajax Content Delivery Network. You may even choose to publish to and from the document library. (pros and cons to this approach)Reference options when referencing the script.ScriptLink will make sure it’s loaded at the top of the page and only loaded once. You need Visual Studio or SPDContent Editor Web Part (CEWP).  Drop it on the page and it’s there.  Easy but dangerousCustom Actions. Great for global deployments of JQuery.  Loads it on every page. It also works in Sandbox installations.Deployment Maintenance Dont’sDon’t add scripts directly to your Master Page. Read on if you'd like :)Why jQuery on SharePoiny is AwesomeIt’s all about that visual wow factor.  You can get past that, “But it looks like SharePoint”  Take a long list view and put it into JQuery with pagination, etc and you are the hero.  It’s also about new controls you get with JQuery that you couldn’t do before.Why jQuery with SharePoint should be AwfulAlthough it’s fairly easy to get jQuery up and running. Copy/Paste can cause a problem.  If you don’t understand what it’s doing in the Client Object Model and the Document Object Model then it will do things on your site that were completely unexpected. Many blogs will note workarounds they employed on their sites. Why it’s not working: Debugging “sucks”.You need to develop small blocks of functionality, Test it by putting in some alerts  and console.log. Set breakpoints and monitor the DOM via Firebug and some IE development toolsPerformance - It happens all the time. But you should look at the tradeoffs. More time may give you more functionality.Consistency - ”But it works fine on my computer. So test on many browsers.  Take into account client resourcesHarm the Farm -  You need to code wisely and negatively test.  Don’t be the cause of a DoS attack that’s really JQuery asking for a resource over and over and over again.  So code wisely. Do negative testing. Monitor Server Resources.They also did a demo where JQuery did an endless loop to pull data from a list. It’s a poor decision but also an easy mistake.  They spiked their server resources within a couple seconds and had to shut down the call before it brought it down.ConclusionJQuery is now another tool in your tool kit. You don’t have to use it. Use it where it makes sense and where it helps you get your job done.Don’t abuse it, you will pay for it laterIt will add to page bloat so take that into accountIt can slow your performance

  • opath syntax to force dynamic distribution group field as numerical comparison? (Exchange 2010)

    I'm upgrading a (working) query based group (Exchange 2003) to a new and 'improved' dynamic distribution group (2010). For better or worse, our company decided to store everyone's employee ID in the pager field, so it's easy to manipulate via ADUC. That employee number has significance, as all employees are in a certain range, and all contractors are in a very different range. Basically, the new opath syntax appears to be using string compare on my pager field, even though it's a number. Let's say my employee ID is 3004, well, it's "less than" 4 from a string check POV. Set-DynamicDistributionGroup -Identity "my-funky-new-group" -RecipientFilter "(pager -lt 4) -and (pager -like '*') -and (RecipientType -eq 'UserMailbox')" Shows up in EMC with this: ((((((Pager -lt '4') -and (Pager -ne $null))) -and (RecipientType -eq 'UserMailbox'))) -and (-not(Name -like 'SystemMailbox{*')) -and (-not(Name -like 'CAS_{*')) -and (-not(RecipientTypeDetailsValue -eq 'MailboxPlan')) -and (-not(RecipientTypeDetailsValue -eq 'DiscoveryMailbox')) -and (-not(RecipientTypeDetailsValue -eq 'ArbitrationMailbox'))) This group should have max of 3 members right? Nope - I get a ton because of the string compare. I show up, and I'm in the 3000 range. Question: Anyone know a clever way to force this to be an integer check? The read-only LDAP filter on this group looks good, but of course it can't be edited. The LDAP representation (look ma, no quotes on the 4!) - Also interesting it sort of 'fills the' bed with the (pager=4) thing... (&(pager<=4)(!(pager=4))(pager=*)(objectClass=user)(objectCategory=person)(mailNickname=*)(msExchHomeServerName=*)(!(name=SystemMailbox{*))(!(name=CAS_{*))!(msExchRecipientTypeDetails=16777216))(!(msExchRecipientTypeDetails=536870912))(!(msExchRecipientTypeDetails=8388608))) If there is no solution, I suppose my recourse is either finding an unused field that actually will be treated as an integer, or most likely building this list with powershell every morning with my own automation - lame. I know of a few ways to fix this outside of the opath filter (designate "full-time" in another field, etc.), but would rather exchange do the lifting since this is the environment at the moment.   • How important is to avoid name collisions between libraries belonging to different domains?

    I have written a small open source Java library for facilitating conversions between different types of objects (in the style of Google's gson, but quite more general). It seems to me that a nice natural name for my library is JConverter, after browsing in the web to see if another library with the same name already exists, I found a library with the same name for Joomla. My concrete question is: How important is to avoid naming collisions when creating an open source library if an existing library with the chosen name already exists in a complete different domain ? (in my concrete case, these are libraries even implemented for different languages).

    I'm trying to setup a Perl development environment on my Mac laptop and have been having a really hard time getting it working. I thought I had everything configured correctly but when I try to run a sample script it is reporting errors with the DBI module and can't access the DB.     I need to reinstall Windows 7 but the problem is that all my partitions are set to Dynamic disk type.Windows cannot install on Dynamic disc type partitions.During the installation process there is an option to format the drive but I cannot change the disc type.Is there any way to convert the partitions back into primary so that I can re-install Windows?I am a complete fool.I don't even know why I converted the partition in which Windows was installed into dynamic type. I have a 1TB HDD having 4 partitions and all of them are dynamic. Thanks in advance.

    After deleting Macports, I've had some strange behaviour. When I try to run PostgreSQL via CLI, I get: pawel:~ pawel$ psql dyld: Library not loaded: /opt/local/lib/libssl.1.0.0.dylib Referenced from: /usr/local/bin/psql Reason: image not found Trace/BPT trap This is strange because I've installed Postgresql through Homebrew and running brew list confirms that it's there. How would I get psql to work again? Additionally, trying to install the pg gem fails due to an file not found: /opt/local/lib/libssl.1.0.0.dylib error. I need to make Postgres not look in the /opt/local/ directory for this file.

  • Why does iTunes sometimes loose everything in the library when upgrading?

    All of my kids have experienced problems at one time or another, when upgrading iTunes on their laptops. The version number doesn't matter, as this has happened for the last couple of years, so the version number has changed. It isn't consistent. What is consistent is sometimes, but not always, after upgrading iTunes, it will have lost all of it's information about the music, podcasts, etc, that it had. And yet if I bring up Windows Explorer, I can find all of it there. It's a pain to have to recover that. The pertinent question is, how do you recover all of the music, podcasts, playlists, etc, that is on the computer, but iTunes doesn't show it in the library? Second, what causes iTunes to do this in the first place?

  • How can I disable the automatic switch to "library" mode in Windows 7's Media Player 12?

    Whenever I plug any USB device into my computer while running Windows Media Player 12 in Windows 7, it will automatically swtich the player from the Now Playing mode to Library mode. This is intended to faciliate syncing between Media Player and MP3 players, but it happens for any USB device. I'd like this to not happen since it's infuriating to see this take place while I'm watching something on a separate screen in Media Player just from plugging in a USB key. This has nothing to do with Windows autorun, and nothing to do with versions of Windows pre-7. And no, switching to some other video player is not an option; I've tried them all, none are as good as stock Media Player in 7.

  • Winamp trashed its local media library database when I blocked it on my firewall -- Is this supposed to happen?

    Frankly, I don't see a compelling reason why Winamp needs to be using my network, as all I do is listen to songs from my local media. However, it appears to exact revenge when I try to ensure it can't on my firewall by completely eradicating my media library list (which includes all my song ratings and such). I was not able to recover this data, as I hadn't exported the database prior, and the actual database file was completely wiped. My other playlists and the actual media itself appear not to be effected, though. Is this supposed to happen, by chance? Edit: I wasn't able to get it to replicate this behavior with a different firewall+Winamp version. Hmm.

  • Why is one specific file not showing up in my document library?

    In my "Documents" library on Windows 7, one file is not showing up in Windows Explorer. When I look in C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\blah\blah all 24 files appear. But when I look in Libraries > Documents > blah > blah only 23 show up. I made a copy of the file and the copy appears. Refresh doesn't help. The "Arrange by" setting defaults to "Name". When I change it to "Folder" the extra file appears, but changing it back to "Name" the file disappears again. How can I make the file appear in all views? Why would it disappear? EDIT: I deleted the Windows Search Index and things seem to be working again. I say it's a bug in the Search Service.

Must I specify each and every .c file instead of using a wildcard? It is planned for the library sources to be within a sub directory, and programs that use the lib each in their own sub directories.

  • Is there a JS diff library against htmlstring just like google-diff-match-patch on plain text?

    Currently I am using google-diff-match-patch to implement a real-time editing tool, which can synchronize texts between multiple users. Everything works great when operations are only plain texts, each user's operation(add/delete texts) could be diff-ed out by comparing to old text snapshot with the helper of google-diff. But when rich format texts(like bold/italic) are involved, google-diff not working well when comparing the htmlstring. The occurrence of character of < and > messed up the diff results, especially when bold/italic format are embedded within each other. Could anyone suggest a similar library like google-diff to diff htmlstrings? Or any suggestions can get my problem fixed with google-diff? I understood google-diff is designed for plain text, but really didn't find a better library than it so far, so it also works if a doable enhancement to google-diff can help. Thanks for any comments.     I'm making an app that has more options than will easily fit into a UITabBarController. I wanted to use something like what the facebook app has for its main menu. My guess is that it isn't proprietary to facebook, because the SCVNGR app uses something similar. This library lets you re-order the icons the way you can re-order the apps from the main menu (i.e. press and hold - icons jiggle - you can drag them around). Does anyone know what library provides this UIView? I'd like to use it if possible. Thanks!

  • Why does Google's closure library not use real private members?

    I've been a JavaScript developer for a while now, and I've always thought that the correct way to implement private members in JavaScript is to use the technique outlined by Doug Crockford here: http://javascript.crockford.com/private.html. I didn't think this was a particularly controversial piece of JavaScript wisdom, until I started using the Google Closure library. Imagine my surprise... the library makes no effort to use Crockford-style information hiding. All they do is use a special naming convention and note "private" members in the documentation. I'm in the habit of assuming that the guys at Google are usually on the leading edge of software quality, so what gives? Is there some downside to following Mr. Crockford's advice that's not obvious?

    Hello, I'm looking for an library/tool for .NET that logs almost everything that happens in my C# application (Windows Form). The problem is that I'm delivering an application to a client (Windows XP) and after doing some task, that classic Microsoft error window appears: "ApplicationName has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" I'm currently handling my application exceptions, but this is something external and I can't get anything from that error, so I would like any automated library that helps me with that. It would work if it logs each line of code executed, orr just log what line was executing before that error appeared, or something that could give me more info about that error. Thank you! P.S: It's a multithreaded application, and have to Timer controls (one for watching a folder every 5secs, and another for watching thread list...). I'm using Windows 7 here and everything seems to work ok.

    Sikuli is really cool, but it's working in its buildin Jython environment, the Sikuli IDE. So I m wondering is it possible to import Sikuli as an external library to my Jython library? I saw from Sikuli's website that they have this Python module which provides all Sikuli actions like click and type. Then in my spike.py script, I try to do this: import python.edu.mit.csail.uid.Sikuli capture() #enter to screen capture mode then when execute the script, I got this error: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /eclipse_3.4.2/workspace/Jython/src/tmplib/libVDictProxy.jnilib: no suitable image found. Did find: /eclipse_3.4.2/workspace/Jython/src/tmplib/libVDictProxy.jnilib: no matching architecture in universal wrapper I m using Jython 2.2.1 and Mac 10.6.2 (32-bit mode). I have also set to use 32-bit mode first in Java Preference.
