  Is there a tool I can use that can merge MP4 files without throwing the audio out of sync? I generated some MP4 files from a DVD using AVIDemux but whatever tool I try to use always ends up throwing the audio out of sync with the video. The further you get into the video the further off-sync the audio is. By themselves the MP4/AAC videos have perfect audio-video sync. later tonight i might try http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ to examine the file before and after to see if anything changed in the media format.

  We are on a host (Serverbeach) that does not support Virtual/floating IPs until you reserve at least a half-rack, which is just a little more than we are willing to spend per month right now. We do have 2 machines in one of their datacenters, and I am using these 2 machines right now in the Master-Master in Active-Passive Mode just like done by MMM -- http://mysql-mmm.org/. I have just set them up and I managing them manually, with manual switch on the Web frontend to tell it to connect to the correct (active) master. Is there any way to use MMM without virtual IPs? Any other comments on this setup?

  I have a shared RHEL 4 host account where I do not have root privileges. I would like to install Git and Bash Complete in a way that they can be upgraded easily. To date, I've just been installing from source providing $HOME as a prefix to autoconf. Obviously this isn't ideal as I need to hunt down the files associated with the version I'm upgrading away from and delete them. I've tried using rpm but I just get -bash: rpm: command not found back so it's not available. I also looked into checkinstall but it looks like that requires rpm, dpkg, or Slackware's package manager to be available. Is there anything out there that can be used like a package manager without requiring root access or an existing package manager?

  The "homegroup" feature is useless, because it requires a password, and therefore doesn't support anonymous, no-hassle access to shares from devices such as my Sony Bravia TV and non-Windows7 machines. So I turned off homegroup and reverted to the standard shared folders protocol. I'd like to share my Music "Library", so I can play files from my TV through the Surround Sound System, but there seems to be no option to share a library folder other than through a homegroup. I don't want to have to individually share the folders that belong to the library, because that would defeat the purposes of the library, which is to manage which folders are included in the library while also providing an easily accessible view of them all at once. Does anyone know how to share a Windows 7 library without that useless homegroup feature?

  I have a small Windows network (~30 machines) and I need to deploy SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services. Because I use SQL Server Standard Edition and not Enterprise, I am forced to use Windows Authentication to the users. I am a Linux admin, and have near zero knowledge on Active Directory. As deep as my shallow knowledge goes, I think that I would need to invest in a domain server, a mirrored backup of that domain server. I think that I need to change every computer to use this domain too, and if the domain server goes down, every computer will be unavailable. Is there a easier way to deploy Windows Authentication so that users can access Reporting Services from their computers without changing the infra-structure that much? Thanks!

  I am working on designing a custom PCIexpress card. I am trying to write a kernel module that will DMA my custom card. Right now when i plug the card into linux no valid PCI device shows up (meaning I probably have a error on my end, i know) however, If I halt the system at startup in the bootloader (uboot) I am able to directly access the card as I know in uboot the physical memory address that is mapped to my device. Is there a way I can access the card in a simliar fashion in linux? Thanks, Stephanie

  I recently upgraded to Windows 7 and went the "format from scratch" route. I backed up my C:\ drive to the free space on my D:\ drive. So now I have Outlook 2007 reinstalled and I have my .pst files and so forth from the previous installation. If memory serves the answer on getting all those emails back into Outlook again is "create a new .pst file for the account and then reimport everything". What I'd like to do is be able to just put the .pst file where it's supposed to go and then have Outlook 2007 just "remember" everything. But I'm pretty sure this doesn't work. Is there a way to restore Outlook from a pst file without having to re-import everything?

I perform the following steps: I modify the file /etc/supervisor/supervisord.conf and add the new worker config Back on the command line, I enter sudo supervisorctl I run reread to read the new configuration file settings. Attempting to run start workers:exampleWorkerName gives the error workers:"exampleWorkerName": ERROR (no such process) So, my question is, how can I start this new worker process without affecting my other existing workers? I'd rather not perform a supervisorctl reload or /etc/init.d/supervisord restart command.

  I'm running Windows 7. Occasionally when I resume my computer from standby, it seems to wait 20-30 seconds or so before giving me full control back. In an attempt to diagnose why, I've been watching what's going on using the awesome Process Explorer. One of the processes I've noticed being started during that hiccup time is Mobsync.exe, described as "Microsoft Sync Center". Sync? Sync what? So, what is Mobsync.exe used for, exactly? Assuming I don't need its functionality, can I disable it in Windows 7 without ill side effect? If so, what's the best way to disable Mobsync.exe?

  This question is similar, but kind of the opposite of what I want. I want external USB drives to be mounted automatically at boot, without anyone logged in, to locations like /media/<label>. I don't want to have to enter all the data into fstab, partially because it's tedious and annoying, but mostly because I can't predict what I'll be plugging into it or how the partitions will change in the future. I want the drives to be accessible to things like MPD, and available when I log in with SSH. gnome-mount seems to only mount things when you are locally logged into a Gnome graphical session.

• Can I upgrade a Windows 2000 domain to 2008 and demote the 2000 server without clients attached?

  Hi all, We're planning to replace a Windows 2000 domain controller with a new 2008 DC (new hardware). We've elected to take the route of getting the 2000 domain schema up-to-snuff, join the 2008 server, upgrade it to a DC, and after replication demote the 2000 server (eventually to be taken off-line). The goal being to not have to visit all the workstations, and limited domain down-time. :) We want bring the old server here and do all the backups, Domain prep, migration and role transfers here, and then (hopefully) just plop the new 2008 back in place after it's done, and join the 2000 server back as a member server (so we can then do folder migrations, etc.). Can this server work be done off-site, without the workstations attached? If we do this will anything need to be done to the clients, once the new DC is physically in place, so they contact the new 2008 DC; or will they just 'know' and continue on using the existing domain settings/user profiles, etc.?   Windows 8 comes with two versions of Internet Explorer: the normal desktop version, which looks just like IE9, and the Modern UI version, which is a full-screen tablet-style app. By default, links opened in desktop mode open in desktop IE, and links opened in Modern UI apps open in the full-screen app. When you set a new default browser (like Google Chrome, which has a Modern UI mode now), you can no longer access IE10 in the Modern UI at all - the tile disappears from the start screen, and there's no way to manually invoke it. I don't use IE10 much, but I'd like to have access to it in Metro mode, because it's handy for testing things out. I don't want to have IE be my default browser though. Is there any way to get the IE10 "App" to show up without setting IE to be the default browser everywhere?

  Really simple question. I do not want a Google account. I just want Google to stop making requests every 2 minutes for a URL it should never have known about (apparently Google harvests URLs from search requests as well as private e-mails, not just from actual web pages). But when I search Google help for removing URLs it appears I have to use their "webmaster tools" which require logging into a GMail account! How do I tell Google not to index my URL without becoming a customer? Note: I already return 404 for the URLs in question using a rewrite rule - this appears to make zero difference to the crawler which continually attempts to fetch the page every 2 minutes.

  I have an application that opens connections on dozens of ports, and doesn't provide documentation about which ports it uses. I could use Wireshark or something to capture the traffic and export the ports from that, but I think it should be simpler than that. (And I'm not sure I would be able to cover all use cases and ensure the app used every single port it can ever use.) So I'm looking for a way to just say "forward all traffic from this application" (bonus points for all traffic from child processes as well) without needing to worry about specific ports.   I have several meetings during the day and I like to be able to open my calendar and see what is left at a glance so I delete the meetings that I have already completed. If I do this close enough to the meeting time I am asked if I want to notify the creator. If I do this after the meeting has started Outlook automatically sends a notice to the creator that I have declined the meeting. I am only deleting the one instance so it is still in my calendar for the next time, however that creates an email that others must read/delete. I need to be able to remove single occurrences of meetings without automatically sending a notice that I am deleting the entry. NOTE: I am using Outlook 2007, I did not see anything in the Advanced Email Options. NOTE 2: I have seen this happen with Lotus notes as well (Like anyone actually uses that). NOTE 3: There is not a sent message created, only the creator of the calendar event will see the message.

The solution can't depend of APNIC or BGP, only open source software running in Linux.
