• Excel - working in a bank

  I am supposed to go to an interview to a bank for just supporting managers in projects. It's a part-time job and the thing is that bank uses Excel for everything. Modifications of tables of really lot of data... What can I expect to find in the test of Excel? I have some books that are around 1000 pages thick but I don't have time and also don't feel like reading everything that's in them.   I'm trying to use uWSGI with a virtual env in order to use the Trac bug tracker on it. I've installed system-wide uwsgi via pip. Next, I've installed trac in a virtualenv $ virtualenv venv $ . venv/bin/activate $ pip install trac I've then written a simple uWSGI configuration script: [uwsgi] master = true processes = 1 socket = localhost:3032 home = /srv/http/trac/venv/ no-site = true gid = www-data uid = www-data env = TRAC_ENV=/srv/http/trac/projects/my_project module = trac.web.main:dispatch_request But when I try to launch it, it fails: $ uwsgi --http :8000 --ini /etc/uwsgi/vassals-available/my_project.ini --gid www-data --uid www-data ... Set PythonHome to /srv/http/trac/venv/ ... *** Operational MODE: single process *** ImportError: No module named trac.web.main unable to load app 0 (mountpoint='') (callable not found or import error) I think uWSGI isn't using the virtual env. When inside the virtual env, I can import trac.web.main without having an ImportError. How can I do that ? Thanks

• Is there any way to prevent a Mac from creating dot underscore files?

  At work we're letting one of our very tech savvy clients actually help out a little with a few development projects specific to him. However, he uses his own personal Macbook, and as he edits files on our (Windows) networks, his Macbook always creates a bunch of unnecessary meta files that we end up deleting later. For instance, it creates a file called .DS_Store in any directory he opens, as well as "dot underscore" files for each file he edits. So for instance, if he's editing a file called "Main.php", his Macbook will create another file called "._Main.php". I know there are ways to prevent creation of .DS_Store files, but none about how to prevent creation of these hidden files prefixed with dot underscore. Is there any way to turn that off on Macs? Any way to prevent it from creating those files in the first place?

  I am designing a transportation agency/workflow system, and it including 3 types of people, customer who requests to transport some stuff, drivers who deliver the stuff, and truck manager who manages transport source/destination truck coordination and communicates/organizes drivers. The system is expected to be a web site, and 3 kinds of people could use the web site to submit request, accept request, monitor status of specific stuff transportation, etc. The web site is more like an open agency or a workflow system. I am wondering whether there are any existing technologies, tools or projects (better to be open source, but not a must) which I could build my application faster based on? • log execution of certain commands on linux

  I have to maintain a system (debian) on which several users are allowed to install programs - so I would like to log, for example, if anyone executes "apt-get install" or "apt-get purge", so I can keep track of manually installed packages.. • Is a Hostname A Entry necessary?

  When I log into WHM, I get this message: The server was unable to lookup an an A entry for its hostname (server226.taxi.com). This is generally because the entry was never added. However this could also be the result of your nameserver(s) being down. If you would like to attempt to automatically add the entry, click here. If I click "here" it does nothing and I still get the message. I'm not hosting websites for other people, just internal projects on our server. Does not having an A Hostname Record affect SEO or anything like that or is this just a convenience when setting up nameservers or something like that?

• Use Windows 7 offline sync with external usb hd

  Yeah, truly the whole question in the header. Is there a way to use Windows 7 offline sync (which we know from network mapped drives) with a external usb hd? When not, are there similar built in tools or good third party tools? My scenario: I want to buy a ultrabook with SSD which is mostly limited in space. So I'm going to put all files to a external HD and only store current projects on the local SSD. Let's say I have to change project. It would be easy just change sync folders and have the second project synced to my hd too. With network mapped drives it's such easy. Paths do not differ if the drive is offline so in most situations you don't take notice if the folder is offline. And you only have to activate offline file for the folders you courrently need for work. So is there a similar solution for usb hard drives?

• Sharepoint 2010 reacts very badly to having it's IP address changed. How do I fix it?

  I have Sharepoint 2010 set up on a virtual host for prototyping various projects. If I restart the host, the IP changes. Afterwards, SP complains that it can't find it's configuration database. I can't find where it might be storing an IP. To clarify, the URL remains the same - I have a dynamic dns solution in place to handle that. I can't see anything in the web.config files or the database connection strings that would indicate a hardcoded IP. How can I fix this up in less time than re-installing every time I need to do a project?

  I am using Team foundation server / visual studio as a client, to manage my visual foxpro source code. everytime i "checkout for edit" all my folders and files are read only and when i open my projects, it is like if the project is opened for the first time, asking me if i would like to set the current path as the default path... this is causing other serious problems as bad reference to "missing library files", which are actually not missing. i know Visual foxpro is old stuff...i hope someone who went through the same errors could help me out. thanks a lot guys

• Tabbed terminal that connects to a GNU Screen session?

  I use the session feature of screen extensively. For example, I'll start a screen session for "project1" as "screen -S project1", and then when I need to reconnect I use "screen -d -r project1". This makes it easy to manage multiple projects, each with their own set of shell sessions. What I would love to do now is that when running on Windows and Linux, to be able to use a tabbed terminal program (such as gnome-terminal) to connect to a screen session and have all of the screen windows split out to separate tabs. This way I get all the usual power of screen, but with the convenience of a richer GUI experience. Is there any such terminal program available on Windows and/or Linux?

  gurus. I have a problem and i dont know how to solve it. I am working with Git and Compass/SASS on some projects. Now i want to protect those directories. When i go only to the folder its all fine – i get what i expected a 403 forbidden. location ~ /\.git { deny all; } But when i try use the full path to the config file from git the browser start to download it. Same scenario with compass. There is a config.rb file within the folder which also starts to download it. How can i prevent this behaviour? How can i deny downloading specific files?

The reporting instance on the server gives error code 404. What works now Basic source code control. We're able to check in and out source code. What doesn't work : Everything else, including : Opening and creating new team projects. Build automation. Internal bug tracking. Goal setup Having a fully working TFS install, and keeping the history. 1) A full install of TFS 2005 on the same server, but within its own database and reporting instance. 2) Using another server might be an option, but it's really not prefered Downtime should be minimum, my colleagues needs to be able to work on the source Readings I've read the MSDN page about moving/restoring TFS 2005, but I'm still unsure about what to do. This because there are more jobs for system/network administrators in the area I live. Right now I am using virtual machines to learn how windows 2008/2012 works and to build labs with. • phpMyAdmin logs out when selecting database

  I'm having an issue with pma whereby after logging in (as root or the database owner), and trying to switch to a certain database, I am automatically logged out. I cannot do any actions on the database and in the page that loads immediately before I'm logged out I note that I can't see any tables in the database. The database is accessible by the cli mysql program and all records are still present. To clarify: Literally login works fine, I can browse ALL databases except the one of my projects. Trying to use that database causes the phpMyAdmin session to end. Thanks!

• Can't connect to IIS7 on one of my machines

  I have 2 computers, both running Win7 Professional x64. Computer "A" (192.168.0.10) is my work machine, it contains my tools etc. Computer "B" (192.168.0.15) is supposed to be my build server / web server for my projects I've installed IIS on "B", and installed IIS7 remote manager on "A". I'm trying to connect from A's IIS7 Manager to B's IIS but I fail. I have little knowledge of IIS, and I feel that's the main reason. I can ping B from A and get positive results so the machines do see each other. A and B are in the same workgroup but not in a domain (if that matters) - they're in my home network. What do I need to do to "see" B's IIS?

• Allow private access to Git on shared hosting server

  I've setup my own VM running Ubuntu 10.04, LAMP and ISPConfig 3. I would also like to add Git, and give access to to closed group of developers working on their own private projects, essentially operating it as a shared hosting production server. Before I go installing software on the server gung-ho, I would like to know; a) Is this possible? b) Is it a good idea?   Spending all day in terminal is beginning to get frustrating. We're working with large CakePHP projects, including a ton of schema files and complex controllers. Whenever I go into a project, and enter svn up, or svn ci my system chokes. It takes a good 15-30 seconds before it returns what revision number I'm on. I'm running OSX 10.6 on a Macbook Pro. Any reasoning behind this? Anyway I could fix this speed issue?

Session name can be obtained from environment variable STY: STY=13539.project1. But how to get this into screen? I've tried backtick command and %` in hardstatus, but I can't seem to get it right. • GitHub Not Accessible from Google Chrome

  Whenever I try to go to GitHub through Google Chrome 11 I get the following error message: GitHub works perfectly fine in Firefox 4: This has been going on for a few weeks. This is a fairly new install of Windows (I don't even remember if I've successfully got on to GitHub on this installation with Chrome in the past). I don't even use GitHub for hosting my own code personally, but this has proven annoying in that I can't even access other people's projects through Chrome! Does anybody know what is going on here? An interesting side note: The Sight extension for Chrome doesn't work either! It worked on my old installation of Windows but not on this one. Is my Chrome installation just screwy? I've tried disabling certain other extensions but nothing seems to change.

• Authentication in Apache2 with mod_dav_svn

  I'm having some trouble setting up authentication in Apache2 for a SVN repository that's being served using mod_dav_svn. Here is my Apache config for the directory: <Location /svn> DAV svn SVNParentPath /var/svn/repos AuthType Basic AuthName "Subversion Repository" AuthUserFile /etc/apache2/dev.passwd Require valid-user </Location> I can use svn with the projects under /var/svn/repos, so I know that the DAV is working, but when I do svn updates or commits (or anything), Apache doesn't ask for any authentication... It does the exact same thing whether the Auth directives are there or not. The permissions on the repository directory (and all subdirectories/files) only give permission to www-data (the Apache2 user/group). I have also ensured that all relevant modules are enabled (in particular mod_auth is enabled, as are all mod_dav* modules). Any ideas why svn commands aren't authenticating? Thanks in advance.

• Looking for an open source real-time network analysis program

  Can somebody recommend an open source real-time network analysis program? What I'm looking for the program to do is display a graph of bandwidth usage by IP within our internal network that can quickly be viewed any time we need to (typically when we want to quickly find out who is utilizing high amounts of bandwidth and slowing down the network). We ideally simply want to hook up a monitor on the wall of our server room to a system whose NIC will be in permissive mode to log all network activity in a visual manner which can easily be seen and running 24/7. Prefer open source as I do not have a budget for this project and prefer open source projects in general. I'd also prefer for this to be available for CentOS but any linux distro or Windows OS would be acceptable. Thanks!

• Linux periodically "losing" ability to connect to server via SSH?

  I know this isn't exactly a programming question, but it popped up in my use of git for programming projects at least. I've got a web server that I use to host my git repos on, but my ubuntu box seems to "lose" the ability to connect to it via SSH. I'll get a "connection refused" error when I try to ssh or use git. Rebooting my local machine will fix the problem, but only temporarily. I can still connect to the web interface just fine, and the problem manifests with other servers as well. I've been working around it by pulling my changes over to my laptop and pushing from there, but that's sub-optimal as you can imagine. Has anyone seen something like this? I'd be tempted to say it's some kind of IP caching problem, but I can't connect even using the IP address of the server directly... Running Ubuntu 9.04
